Diner Reviews
  • "I really enjoyed the multiple experiences I have had at this restaurant. I would urge other customers to go on Sunday so they can partake in their all you can eat menu, because their food selections are devine!"

  • "The food itself was very tasty, however the portions were very small and we were mislead by our waitress. We were told each dish was meant to be shared and would likely be too much food for one person. Luckily we decided to go big and each ordered our own dish, however my "chicken breasts piled high" (as described by our server) ended up being 3 tiny legs (wing sized) with 2 pieces of triangle naan bread. So be aware... order lots!"

  • "Had dinner with a friend and were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful food choices. The Cheese Cake Lollipop was a great surprise. Seats against the windows have no back rest and may be uncomfortable for some. I just ordered another drink and powered through it. Wine by the glass selection was pretty good. They could extend their selection of wines."

  • "Great dining experience! I really enjoyed the ambience and the food was incredible. The presentation of the food was impressive and it was just the right portion size to leave you satisfied. I particularly liked the crowd. Young professionals on a night out either enjoying a meal or having a drink by the bar. Will be returning yet again!"

  • "The service and food were great! Personally, I'd recommend the calamari and rock shrimp - so.good!"

  • "Overall, the restaurant is beautiful and the staff and service was very good. The food however, was mediocre at best. A step up from a PF Changs, but not much of one - dumplings were dry, Kung pao chicken was tasteless and the squid was rubbery. Ate here on Sunday night – did not know that it was "all-you-can-eat" night. Maybe that was the issue, I've never been a big fan of that concept, as quality always tends to go down."

  • "We had an amazing time at Spice Route. Among 4 of us we shared 3 appetizers, 2 meat dishes, rice and noodles and had way too much food. Glad we made room for dessert which was also delectable. This is my 4th visit to Spice Route and will definitely return. My friends thanked me for recommending it."

  • "Loved the restaurant. Dinner was for 7:30 on a Saturday night. Not a great place to go on a first date due to the noise level and you can touch the strangers seated next to u. Food was excellent. Can't wait to try out the patio as I went in the winter. Washrooms were neat and compact, however I couldn't use it because it had a full glass wall with a view outside that made me uncomfortable :) I would definitely go back there, not on a first date but with friends. I had a mojito and it was the worse I've ever had. Filled with lime and it seemed like nothing else. Waitress suggested a lychee martini which definitely made up for it! Great atmosphere and great food. I will go back there with friends. Great food! Was a good experience overall."

  • "On arrival at the bar I asked what wines they had by the glass. I was told varietals (shiraz, cab etc) but when asked they couldn't say where it was from or the vineyard. Odd. I asked for the wine list which has some half dozen by the glass reds. After sitting at our table we had a good meal. Nothing notable. After our food was served there was no sign of our server for twenty minutes after we had done eating. We had to flag someone else to ask for our bill. Still our server didnt show up. Had to ask again. Finally someone else brought out bill and then dissapeared so nobody could take out payment. We sat there another ten minutes trying to pay our bill. I would have rated everything better but the service was really sub-par."

  • "This is the second time I have eaten at Spice Route. The first time was a little more enjoyable but still a very nice experience this time. The one thing I wasn't very happy about was that they didn't bring all the food out together and therefore had to take the rice back and bring out another bowl with the lobster as it was cold by the time they brought out the main."

  • "FIrst off - I was truly surprised by the venue. It's gorgeous and spacious for a venue on King W. Then it's $1 sushi Thursday!! The Green dragon was yummmmy - the other rolls, not so much. Washrooms may freak out the prudish."

  • "Have been here before and the food is typically good and I know what to expect in terms of value (i.e. I expect my bill to be a lot). Went on a Thursday for their widely advertised $1.00 sushi thursdays only to discover upon being seated that nothing was $1. Sushi maki rolls were $4 for a 6-piece roll and $6 for an 8-piece roll. 2 pieces of Nigiri were $2.00. Overall, our bill for 2 people was $80 (which included tax, tip, and a glass of $10 wine each)."

  • "This was a great find. Food, service and ambiance were fantastic. Would highly recommend for groups of four or more as the amount of each serving size is too large for two people, unless able to take extra home."

  • "The decor and location is great for date night. The restaurant design is very comfortable and spacious, which is rare given downtown Toronto restaurant. The sushi is good, but the Chinese and Thai category good is average at best. Nevertheless, our server, Sean, was excellent. He was attentive, efficient and friendly. My company and I had a great time here. Will return and only eat the Sushi category of items (Probably different chef managing the Japanese cuisine while another chef manages the Chinese/Thai/hot food kitchen)."

  • "This is the 3rd time I've gone to Spice Route and I have to say. The presentation of the food is great but the taste is very bland. The servers are on top of what they are doing but often when you order your food it will come out all at once and about 2 mins after you order. We ended up ordering once course/item at a time."

  • "I use to frequent this spot, but had not been in a few years so I decided to go with a friend this past weekend. We dinned from the the All You Can Eat menu featured on Sundays for $24pp. Good selection but the food was not the best - probably due to them cooking in mass. The food was not hot when it came to the table. The ambiance was ok too. Lots of families due to it being Family Day Weekend but that was ok. The service here here is always disappointing. You always see several staff members walking around but never really doing much. We saw our server twice - to take our initial order and to collect his tip. Not sure if I will be going back anytime soon. There are several other restaurants along King with great food and great service."

  • "My friends have been telling me to go to Spice Route for a long time now. We finally decided to go for Valentines Day. From the second we walked in the staff was friendly and very accommodating. The lighting is very dim, which I found very romantic. The booths massive making it comfortable for large groups. Our server was amazing. He gave us so many suggestions and they were all great! We noticed that every time he walked by his tables he made sure everything was ok and our water glasses were never empty for more than a minute. I would absolutely come back. I have nothing but positive things to say!"

  • "Chose restaurant for proximity to Factory Theatre (and to cook on a rock!). Turned out that Sunday is "all you can eat" day. $24 per person for selections from a menu that is pretty much their full menu (sliders, maki, curries, crab cakes, salads and more -- all great for sharing). Food was lovely, service the same. Diners included families, groups of friends, couples. Very enjoyable Sunday dinner."

  • "I absolutely LOVED dining at the Spice Route on Valentine's Day. We were able to have a late dinner to accomodate our schedule that night (dined at 11:15pm) and even at that hour, our server had a smile on her face and she was so friendly! It was our first time visiting so she was so helpful in helping recommend what to choose, as well as, helped us with our portion size so that we didn't end up ordering extra food! I loved the food, the atmosphere, the ambiance and the service...in my opinion this is a must dine restaurant and gets a 10/10 from me!!"

  • "The restaurant itself was great, excellent decor and ambience, service was great, unfortunately food was disappointing, we're foodies and dine out often, duck not crispy as should be for this dish, muscles were bad had to send back."

  • "After hearing great things about Spice Route from other people, we were disappointed in our experience. The service was very slow and being a Tuesday night the restaurant was not busy at all. The food was sub-par and did not live up to the hype. Would not go back."

  • "The food at spice route is bad. It's kinda embarrassing. The ambience is awesome. Needs food to be at par"

  • "Went there for Winterlicious and hadn't heard the best reviews. Our waitress was lovely and the food was amazing. All the mains were delicious and there was a mango cheesecake parfait for dessert that was to die for."

  • "the greeters might have well said "don't take another step - you're not allowed to come in" Party of 3, arriving separately, all of us were greeted in this fashion... we had merely poked our heads around the wall, to get noticed. Horrible food, almost like I had got home really tired one evening and cooked it myself! poor presentation of the kung pao chicken, portions were small. my green tea ice cream was half melted by the time it was served to me. The last time I was at Spice Route, I remembered saying I'm never coming back. I always give second chances - maybe greeters/chef were having a bad night. So 2 years later, and nothing has changed. Will not be going back, will not be recommending to friends."

  • "Having walked by a number of times and marvelled at the beauty of the building I was really excited to go and was really disappointed. The building is gorgeous but the service was really poor except for one guy and the food was average. I'd say it'd probably a great spot for drinks but maybe not so much for dinner. It was a friends birthday and we arranged to have a cake and treat her but didn't feel like the wait staff made any special effort at all."

  • "Was thoroughly happy with the food and atmosphere at this restaurant/lounge. Spice route has been successful in creating a wonderful ambiance. The winterlicious fix-prix menu was excellent and you could tell they put effort into their menu and and food for this event The server was overall nice, friendly, and attentive, however could not answer questions regarding the wine menu and charged us for 3 bottles of wine rather than 2 - luckily we noticed! In addition, it would be appreciated if this restaurant could have a greater selection of wine in a reasonable price range - cheapest bottles are $50. We all left very happy with our meals and experience, with plans to return in the future!"

  • "I booked a private room at Spice Route, the Buddha Room, for my Fiances 40th birthday this year. The help I received from the event co-ordinator Sam was top notch. She helped me organize the special menu I wanted and was always quick to respond when I had any questions. The manager Tom ensured our night went off seamlessly and the one small issue we had he handled very quickly and professionally. Our server Adrian was amazing, he was very attentive and organized, he really helped our party have a great time! The food was exceptional, our favorites were the Crispy Orange Beef and the Lamb. However the Chow Mein, Salmon and Sushi dishes were great as well. The vibe was great, music had us dancing and they made it the best birthday ever!"

  • "The atmosphere inside Spice Route is absolutely amazing. Great decor and great service. Also a great selection of cocktails which include some asian infused picks. I went with a group of 8 and honestly my only complaint would be the quality of the food. I'm not one to care for prices of food when I go out (especially if it is on King West) but it is way over priced for what you get. I'd recommend getting the sushi rather the regular menu items. Almost everyone in my table did not enjoy their meal but we all had an amazing time because of the service and ambiance of the place!"

  • "The restaurant was nicely decorated, similar to any other hip restaurant in the downtown core. The service was great, very organized and attentive, we arrived early to sit by the bar and seated as soon as our table was available earlier than our reservation time. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. How do you get pad thai all wrong? We also had an appetizer with 5 strips of thin beef we cooked on a hot stone all for the cost of $16.95....seriously? I've had better Asian at a fraction of the price. For the foodies out there, you'll be disappointed but for a night out with friends its a fun spot."

  • "Great evening for all!! Good food presentation, flavor, service!"

  • "Had some PAD THAI which was not at all even close to a Thai dish. My guest had the beef teryaky which was so and so. Good the fried spicy calamars."
    Dined on 1/22/2014
  • "Thought the ambience was amazing but not impressed with the food. Found the Pad Thai lacked flavour and over powering on the tamarind flavour. Found the deep fried banana very chewy. Almost no banana. Was not very pleased. Our server was extremely polite and engaging. If it were not for the ambience and service it would have been a truly awful evening."

  • "I'm quite picky and don't usually like places that offer asian fusion cuisine but I really enjoyed the food at Spice Route. We had Pad Thai, Crispy Duck, and beef sirloin. I like the first two but thought that the beef dish was nothing extraordinary. My two friends really loved it though so...it might just be me. The Thursday special priced sushi were also great. The service was awesome. It was a quiet night. The only thing I'm not satisfied with is the size of the serving of the Duck dish."
