Diner Reviews
  • "Great outdoor dinning and ambiance with good food right on Lake Eola in the heart of downtown. The service is always good and just wish that Open Table had the ability to request outdoor dinning since we live nearby and prefer to use the Open Table app rather than call."

  • "Good steak, as I like. Wine list is not really good."

  • "We actually chose to eat off the sushi menu, despite the restaurant name. Good selection and everything was good. We chose one wine off the wine list and they didn't have it. Service was a little slow for drink refills, but overall food and atmosphere made it a good experience."

  • "Myself and a group of 10 dined at Spice on Saturday evening. The outdoor seating was perfect! We had two servers; one was great, the other was so-so. The so-so one never acted as though she was having a good night - very "ho-hum" and seemed annoyed that we were talking most of the time. Rather than speaking up to tell us the specials, she kept coming back to see if we were done talking. I finally quieted the table for her so she could share the specials. The food came and I enjoyed mine; however, several in my party did not. Almond crusted chicken was dry said one friend, Mahi was overcooked said another. Sushi & appetizers were great (highly recommend the grilled zucchini); drinks were good too. I would dine there again."

  • "We were looking for a place to show off downtown Orlando and Lake Eola. Spice Restaurant fit the bill to a tea. While it is a "steak" place, we all had chicken dishes and thoroughly enjoyed them. The wait staff is attentive, but not to the point of interferring with dinner or conversation. Will definitely go back!"

  • "1st visit to Spice. The server told us steaks are "amazing"- hand cut and aged. I had the filet and my husband the new York strip. They were both really bad. My was way overcooked and they were both tough. We have had better at OutBack for a third of the price. The outdoor dining and view was amazing, so we enjoyed our evening anyway. I would order a sushi roll and glass of wine . Server was good."

  • "We went to Spice after we heard about the view from the patio. Made a reservation. Upon arrival we were told not enough servers so we would have to wait. The bar area is somewhat small. Took quite a while to get a cocktail. When we asked for limes for our cocktails we were informed no limes. When we were finally escorted to our table the bench seating was covered in food crumbs. The hostess saw it and didn't clean it but she gave me a rag to do it. Our server was good and she was accommodating. The food was OK. Not worth the price and with so many quality restaurants to choose from in the Orlando area. I would recommend it when you want to sit outside and be on the lake and enjoy a few cocktails and appetizers."

  • "The patio was the perfect setting for a 34-year anniversary celebration for my parents. It had a beautiful view of Lake Eola and we got to enjoy the sunset and see how the lake transforms from day to night. The service was excellent and the food delicious. Highly recommend it. Great atmosphere."

  • "Not to familiar with the downtown Orlando area, but this place was a hit!!The service was great, and all of the menu items my group of four tried were delicious! The lakeside ambiance added for a relaxing afternoon, I would definitely go back!"

  • "Were were initially seated in the rather open inside back area...not romantic in my opinion. However, when asked for booth seating (which was available since we'd opted for an early evening 6:15 seating and had arrived a tad early) we were accommodated in a timely fashion. Our server was very attentive without being obtrusive. Both our meal selections were cooked to order, well seasoned and had good presentation (we opted for one each of the special menu steak offering) . We very much liked the jazz selections playing in the background. We'll do this again and may, perhaps, take friends! We will definitely recommend it. Nice find!"

  • "Given the fact that this night of the year is always hectic for any restaurant, Spice did an admirable job in handling the evening. This was our first experience with Spice, we will return on a "regular" evening. The Valet was nice enough to park our car right at the front door, a very nice touch. The waiter and staff were friendly, personable, and attentive to ours and other patrons needs. Our drinks from the bar were a bit slow on coming out but were delicious. Our only complaint was the extra charge for requesting a different vegi than the one slated with the meal...not a good practice especially when the entree is $34! The food was served hot and was very good. Overall, a very nice evening and special night, thank you Spice!"

  • "We dined here on 02/08/2014 at around 6:30 pm. Our group had a reservation and we were quickly shown to our table. When we were seated our server was quick and responsive with our drink/appetizer and main course orders. However, when we received our food one plate was lukewarm and even cold in certain parts. Also, after the meal was finished, two guests who ordered burgers became ill later on in the evening. The other diners did not order any ground beef based meals so it can be concluded that it was something in the meat that caused their discomfort. Outside of the aforementioned meals, the other dishes were good. We also ordered from the dessert menu and the consensus was the bananas foster pudding was excellent."

  • "Just beautiful at night to sit in doors, or better yet, on the patio and look at the vibrant and ever changing colors of the iconic Lake Eola Fountain."

  • "I had a group of 8. We sat outside with a great view of the lake and fountain. Propane heaters were provided as it got dark and a bit colder. We split 3 appetizers for the 8 of us. They were freshly made and more than adequate for 8 people. Dinner was a variety of great steak, sandwiches, chops and sushi. All were very good. Were the steaks USDA Prime Ruth Chris? No, but they were much less expensive and very tender and tasty. We then split a huge brownie sundae, 2 banana fosters and fresh made chocolate chip cookies drizzled with chocolate. Great location and dinner. I will be back. A great find and Rachael (hostess) followed up prior to arriving to ensure we had the seating we desired."

  • "We were in downtown Orlando on a business trip and decided to go to Spice Modern Steakhouse because of the outdoor seating and the nice view of Lake Eola. I made online reservations for 5:00 and my request for outside seating was satisfied. I wish I would've known that dogs are allowed to sit at the outside tables with people - we walked by several small dogs and ended up sitting next to 4 huge German Shephards. We were going to leave, but the server said they were leaving soon, which they did after about 15-20 minutes (barking and whining). We loved our drinks, but they didn't offer any bread/rolls to snack on. My husband loved his filet, and my New York sirloin was also tasty, but I wasn't a fan of the dried up roasted potatoes."

  • "We choose Spice for our office's Christmas dinner because of how convenient is the distance from our office and because we also heard good reviews. The view is fantastic, the personnel were nice and friendly and the ambience was very nice. It was a chilly afternoon and the staff was nice enough to move the big fire lamps near our table to keep us comfortable. The food, in general was good but it took a long period of time between services. I believe if it wasn't for the wait time on the food, everything would've been perfect."

  • "We ate here on Christmas Eve. The tables were chipped and the place had a grunge kind of feeling. We had the spinach salad, which was ordinary at best. The steak flavoring was good but nothing exceptional. Maybe this was good once but there are lots of other restaurants I would pick over Spice (Flemings, Ravenous Pig, Prato)…..not worth a visit."

  • "Wait staff could serve to be more personable. Service a bit slow. Although we were a group of about 14, drinks and apps trickled slowly from the kitchen. Restaurant was pretty scarce of patrons on the Sunday night. Food was tasty-nonexplosive. Wine and cocktails good. Happy hour prices pretty good, although we did not partake. Ambiance leaves much to be desired- No band, don't recall any mood music. Overall, I'd give probably a 3 out of 5."

  • "We had a wonderful seat outside to enjoy our meal on a beautiful Orlando evening. The view of Lake Eola fountain was right over our shoulders. Our waitress was new and learning the ropes and was very sweet and thoughtful. Our meal was delicious. Loved the zucchini appetizer...yummmm,"

  • "We hadn't been to Spice in years due to poor service and low quality food. That was probably two owners ago so we gave it another chance. Our food and server were very good. We had the squash appetizer - it was grilled and very tasty. (And I don't typically care for squash.) We ordered the 6 and 10 oz filets - the 6 oz filet was cooked through more evenly but the 10 oz filet was still pretty tasty just uber rare. The cocktails and sides were also good. We'll definitely go again to see if these improvements are part of the normal quality of service or we got lucky."

  • "The service was excellent! I had a reservetion for Sunday brunch for a big party and it took at least an hour for half of the party to arrive. The staff handled the situation with great patience and professionalism. Truly awesome staff. My food was not great (the mahi wrap) the sweet potato fries that came with it were to die for though! I would definitely go back and just try something else."

  • "The food was outstanding but the server seemed to be overwhelmed and a bit too new for a place like this. He was a nice person, but just didn't seemed to be focued on his job/"

  • "The view of Lake Eola from the outdoor patio is a wonderful place to enjoy October weather in Orlando. We thoroughly enjoyed the rib-eye and filet. In our opinions, both were better than more expensive steaks available in the same area of town. I wouldn't want to eat outside here in July, but this time of year it's definitely worth giving a try."

  • "We had a new server that did not know the specials. After we ordered, she came back to tell us that the special she had quoted us was not available. Service was spotty at best. The restaurant was not busy but our glasses went empty and our server never came back to ask about our meal. The quality of the sushi has gone down since our last visit."

  • "The food at Spice is fantastic. I continue to go back both attending special occasions for friends as well as booking my own special occasions there too. You must know that it will be a LONG dinner. The service is always slow and the staff does not visit often. In a way, it's like dining in Europe."

  • "My wife and I chose this place for our five year anniversary dinner. We arrived at the restaurant a few minutes early of our reservation time and were still seated right away. The hostess seemed a bit confused about where to seat us, but found us a inside booth with a view of the lake (The booth seat cushion had a big tear in it). The music in the restaurant was a bit too loud and of the electronic genre. The waitress was nice, but had little knowledge of the quality of foods as she had not eaten several of the items. I had a steak, and my wife had Mahi with rice. The food was actually very good, and they were both cooked to desired taste. Overall, I think the restaurant is a great steak place, but not a place for a romantic evening out."

  • "We had a beautiful view outside and wonderful bacon wrapped strip, however the BBQ Chicken flatbread just tasted like BBQ sauce and had very little taste of anything else. And the teriaky chicken as well had way too much sauce, but was juicy and cooked well. We want to come back and try the steak as it is a steak house and that night we did not try one."

  • "I meet monthly with friends that I otherwise wouldn't see unless there was an special occasion. I happened to be the host for this months gatherings and decided to introduce the group to your location. We always try to avoid chains, giving our business to local restaurants and keeping the price below $25 including drinks. Needless to say, we were all pleased with the atmosphere, food and especially the Bloody Mary Bar! If you've never been, it's great for large groups, family outings or a romantic date... The Spice Modern Steakhouse was a hit and we'll all visit again soon! PS: Loved, loved, loved the Mediterranean Skillet and theScramled Flatbread, each dish was enough for two!"

  • "I came here because my bf wanted sushi for his birthday, and we thought sitting at the lake on such a beautiful day would be nice. And it was. However, everything else was lackluster. Our server was friendly, but she lacked personality. It actually got to be a little awakward toward the end because she was so robotic in nature- her smile started to adopt this eerie vibe. It was forced and creepy. Now the food. We decided to take advantage of their happy hour in which their Naki rolls are all $5. The flavors were delicious, but the rolls themselves were tiny. We thought maybe these were smaller portions due to the discount, so I ordered a specialty roll for $11. To my dismay, it came out to be the same size. Definitely not an $11 roll."

  • "Food was excellent. View on outdoor patio great until a very loud table was sat next to us and their server was as loud as they were. Our server was not good barely saw him. Hostess was a bit rude. When we asked if we could sit outside, told us that we were suppose to indicate that on the reservation that there was a spot for it. I apologized stated that I must have missed that. She told us there'd be a wait, we said that was fine. But she was still visibly put out by it. I checked on open table app later to see...no field mentioned it at least not on the iPad app. I would still go back for food and view."
