  • "The ambiance at the Spice Market is so well done and beautiful. We were there on a warm night and the windows were all wide open, the building and the interior design was so gorgeous that it actually put all of us in a good mood regarding our dinner choice for the night...but then the food came. Every single thing we ordered was "just ok". It was very salty and the flavors were not complex at all. Every single person at our table (4 of us) felt the same way. It has the potential to be so amazing but it truly dissappointed all of us. Fix the good and it would be a must see place!"

  • "I was able to easily make a reservation with less than two week's notice, so that was a plus. The restaurant is conveniently located on a of 2 streets in the meat market district, so it has good views. I like the eastern garb that the servers wear; it is different than the usual restaurant uniform. The service was very attentive and prompt. The food--a fusion of various Asian and other cuisines--was excellent! The chicken and pork appetizers were so good that my dining companion and I ordered more to go."

  • "After being away from this wonderful restaurant for almost a year, what joy it was to treat my niece to a 21st birthday lunch, with a one on one Auntie/ niece time at Spice Market. Indeed it was sublime. Despite her sensitivities to several food items, she was able to find a dish and a drink that she liked. Our server was flawless in his attention and knowledge about the menu. Indeed it was a comforting return to one of my favorite resturants - just sublime."

  • "We very much enjoyed the place and will happily come back. The food is particularly good and tasty. We had the baby ribs, the halibut and the vietnamese curry. All three were really delicious. This is really great quality for the money."

  • "Misses wanted to try SM and made an event with some family. Ordered half of the appetizers and 'mains' (everything is share friendly). The chicken wings were spiciest; the mushroom egg rolls and it's 'aioli' like sauce were great; peanut sauce on chicken skewers were tasty. The steak was awesome and went with the ginger fried rice smashingly. Would go back."

  • "Visited Spice Market on a recent trip to NYC, would recommend to others the food is absolutely delicious. We had the Vegetarian tasting menu you get a great selection. The cocktails are really good too with a selection of choice. The staff were friendly too."

  • "It Is hard to cook such a terrible food! The salmon tartare floating on a greasy disgusting sauce , and even worse ( it it is possible) THE snapper on that terrible corn broth...!!! If you don't care about food and experience a " I wish i were in sex and city" maybe is your place!"

  • "Some of the negative reviews (service/noise) almost caused me to drop Spice Market off my list... I am so thrilled that I did not make a change. We had a reservation for 3 at 8:30, were seated promptly and treated like royalty (we aren't). Our server explained things and kept a close eye on us. My 14 year old LOVED some menu items so much, we ordered them twice. We shared 5-6 items. Hubby and I had Ginger Margaritas, which were delicious. We did not want dessert, but Manager gave us cookies to go because we were celebrating son's graduation. Everything about the experience was great. Would absolutely go back!!"

  • "Exciting looking menu but only mediocre food, in this dark, outdated restaurant. Time for a makeover; including the Staff uniforms. Was here about 10 years ago...looks like nothing has changed. The restaurant that time forgot. Great service saved the day."

  • "Good food, even though it comes out at random times. The service was terrible - apathetic, lethargic, etc."

  • "Great food, great location and great service. Their speciality drinks are unique in that I have never had a passion fruit sangria anywhere and it was delicious. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his cocktail and we loved our food. It was a nice spin on Asian cuisine and I could eat the appetizers over and over and over again. I always recommended this place to the guests I work with and friends."

  • "Absolutely loved the food here - got the vegetable tasting menu, and everything that came out was phenomenal. Tasting menu is also very well-priced and a lot of food per course. Boyfriend had ginger cocktail, which was quite refreshing and not too strong. Vibe is very much what tourists think of when they think nyc - famous chef, big space, vast menu, great decoration and loud music in a trendy neighborhood. Only thing lacking was the service. Took 45 minutes for our order to be taken, after trying multiple times to flag our waiter down."

  • "For those loving Asian and Thai cuisine. Be sure to book a table; I did the day before. If you not are local, note that you may find yourself walking an extra round the quarter (maybe I just was inattentive...). I actually also found it a little dark and noisy, but my daughter and I was lucky to get a table at the windows not too close to the loudspeakers. A lot of People that have to be seated, you have to wait in the bar, epsecially if you too early as we, be patient, look cool, do not nag the staff. But as soon you are seated, enjoy service and food! Lovely interior/decor."

  • "Great food and an even better wine pairing! My only slight complaint would be the staff's attentiveness to needing another utensil or beverage.. And the hostess was a bit snarky when I called to move our reservation back by 10 minutes because of terrible weather. But the food & ambiance more than made up for it."

  • "I have visited this place on and off for years but will not come back after this dinner experience. The waiter was nowhere to be seen. I had to order additional dishes from bus boys. Ordering drinks took 15 min, getting them another 15min. Cleaning up the dirty dishes took forever. Wait staff is snotty and talked about me wheni asked for the manager. They never called the manager so I asked a bus Boy to get me one. Another table complained to the manager after I did. My dinner lasted 3 hrs due to the horrible service. Never again."

  • "Everything was great except for the ladies you have on reception They are rude and I certainly think they should work in another area. The waitress, the service and the food great as always I go to NY four times a year and always go to Spice Market ."

  • "Great ambience, beautiful restaurant interior, excellent service and an interesting menu. We had one of each of the tasting menus, and found most of the food to be exceptional. There were some interesting flavour combinations that were delicious and others that were a little too adventurous for our tastes. Most of the dishes were not traditional south East Asian cuisine but a very Americanised version of whatever was being served (I.e. Lots of sauces and american style of serving). But overall it was a delicious meal and an excellent dining experience."

  • "Loved the Spice Marlet. The food was excellent, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the service was very good. Enjoyed the ginger margarita as well as the passion fruit sangria. The muscle appetizer in a coconut broth was absolutely delicious, as well as the short ribs appetizer. Maincourse red snapper in a broth, as well as the wide noodles with a very flavorful sauce was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Food here was excellent however they lost my credit card for a good thirty minutes which caused concern! I don't think credit cards should be taken until the end of the meal"

  • "Service was slow! Our wine didn't arrive until half an hour after we had ordered it. Then it got put in an ice bucket across the other side of the room and we had to fetch it ourselves. Also there were too many waiters who didn't seem to know what each other was doing."

  • "Sadly, Spice Market has fallen far since its prime. Star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten's physically beautiful space now serves up one unappealing dish after another. To make matters worse, the stated service policy is to "serve each dish when its ready," leading to lengthy waits between each dish being served; to one main course arriving while everyone else sits around with nothing to eat, and then ten minutes later, one more main course arrives. Meanwhile, it doesn't even occur to the wait staff to check on the diners between courses. No one asks if you want more wine, need more water, or anything else. You're on your own as a straggling, haphazard parade of poorly conceived dishes wends its way to your sad, neglected table."

  • "My friend and I found this restaurant on Google and decided to try it out for our quick NYC trip. We couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. Open table was showing no openings until 10 pm, so we called the restaurant to check wait time...only a one hour wait so we so we hopped on the train. To our surprise we checked open table again and there was a last minute reservation cancellation, so we snagged it! We walked in and were seated immediately in the downstairs section. The upstairs and downstairs had two different vibes but both were great. We ordered the spicy chicken rice balls, chili garlic egg noodles and the onion and chili crusted short ribs. One word .. DELICIOUS! Will definitely be coming back."

  • "Food was not good that I thought it would be. Presentation is just ok. Because of the noise level is crazy, was not able to enjoy the conversation, we had to choose other place to relax after this restaurant. This is just one of these restaurant in Meat Packing area that people talk about. Not for good food hunting purpose. It is ok to visit and dine once. Are we going to dine here again? No."

  • "Food was excellent as always but service very slow even though the restaurant was empty when we got there. And the wrong tea was served. Also, the lift wasn't working and it took some time and two staff members to get it working."

  • "very cool/fun vibe there, dark and sexy type of place. the apps we had were far tastier than the entrees. would come back for drinks and apps and would skip the main meal. overall very fun cool place and glad we tried it but jean georges has much better food elsewhere"

  • "I have eaten at spice market a few times and the food is amazing. This time I ordered the curry chicken. I was extremely disappointed with this dish. It seemed that they used cheap cuts of chicken on the bone with the skin attached and that made the dish very hard to eat and all I kept getting on my fork was either skin or funky pieces of chicken. Why can't they make it with chunks of stewed white meat and there were no vegies in the dish at all. This is not a cheap dish so don't cheap out on the ingredients! I also had the cabbage salad, fantastically peppered!"

  • "I was looking for a place in the meatpacking district where I could eat outside on my birthday, and I'm so glad I chose Spice Market. The service was amazing. When they come to the table they ask if you have allergies or dietary restrictions and then let you know if what you're requesting has that and how you can make it so that it wouldn't have the ingredient. This is so helpful at a place where I don't recognize the names of the dishes. The staff is so accommodating but not suffocating. I was too full for dessert, so our waiter brought me a candle with a glass of dessert wine. The interior is gorgeous and spacious. Most importantly, the food was incredible and full of flavor. And they didn't get cranky when we asked for extra crackers."
