  • "Every time I make it back to NY, can't miss my chance to visit the Spice Market. If you love flavor, great service and a cool vibe, you don't want to miss out on this one. My personal fav's to eat and drink: maine lobster (OMG) the spicy chicken samosas, ginger margarita (insane) and if you like steak - I'm not usually a big fan unless it's really good - the ribeye is amazing. Make sure you dip in the blackberry jam. I promise you will be hooked for life!"

  • "We chose the restaurant week dinner menu. We made the mistake of ordering an appetizer with shrimp and the fish main course. Both were very good but they were exactly the same except the appetizer was called soup and was finished with cilantro. The main course was served in a sauce that was exactly like the soup except it had fish and basil instead of shrimps and cilantro. The wine parings were not great. A sparkling wine with the appetizer, a pinot noir with the main dish, and a desert wine that I didn't like."

  • "Good ambience. Came for restaurant week. Out waiter was wonderful!"

  • "I met a girl friend for lunch at Spice Market during Restaurant Week. They were good about making the menu available, but not too pushy about it. We decided to order off of the regular menu and were happy with what we ordered. We both ordered the chicken and coconut soup and then shared an order of the mussels and the shrimp pad Thai. I thought that the pacing of the meal could have been much better; I understand that everything comes as it is ready, but that just feels like a cop-out to me. When you are paying for a $100 lunch, all of your food shouldn't show up at the table at once. We sent the Pad Thai back to the kitchen to be reheated because it got cold. That really isn't acceptable to me."

  • "Fantastic food with excellent service to match. Great atmosphere too. Would definitely return."

  • "The waitress forgot my wine and forgot to check with the manager about my gift certificate. I caught the last day of lunch during restaurant week menu and had no issue with food, sorbet serving was huge good for 2."

  • "Too many waiters around, service lacked warmth or friendliness. It is supposed to be run on South East Asian street food concept. It didn't feel American nor South East Asian. To add icing to the cake one waiter chose to thank us after reviewing the tip amount !! My freind and I are not planning on going back."

  • "Took almost an hour to be seated, though our full party was not available to be seated until 10 min after our reservation time. Service, once seated, was very slow, even though there appeared to be many servers for the floor. Food was tasty, for the most part. Not compelled to return and I would not recommend it."

  • "The food was creative and had lots of flavors. Portions were not big but neither were the prices. If you like to share this place would be just right for you. Early it's a bit quiet but starts to pick up around 8:30. The waitress was pretty slow but the rest of the service was spot on. I was a bit disappointed with the restauarant week menu"

  • "Appetizer was very good but main dish very average. The chicken curry had a very mild taste but it was well cooked. The charcoal grilled chicken was burned outside and not very well cooked inside. My wife ate it but I would have sent it back to the kitchen. The place is very loud with music at a very high level.certainly too high for a restaurant. I was disappointed by the choice."

  • "Spice Market delivered on our expectations. The food was yummy, the cocktails were perfectly mixed and the restaurant has a great ambience that must be experienced."

  • "Any other time then restaurant week I would have given Spice 5's across the board. The restaurant week menu didn't showcase a great selection. The desserts were GREAT. The service was mediocre at best - didnt ask if we need anything, would we like another drink, placed the check on the table before asking if we would like to order anything. upon entering the host & manager were warm and welcoming."

  • "We didn't finishend our starter yet and there was the maincourse already. When I said that we want some more time to finish our starter, was not possible. He put on the maincourse on the table. The maincourse was not as good as I expected. The chicken was dry and burned. I'm used to have dinner in a restaurant for at least 2 hours. We were finished within 70 minutes. It was a speed-dinner. I don't like it. I expected so much, after reading the reviews."

  • "Was really looking forward to my first time at this restaurant. It was Restaurant Week and the chef selections for this special menu were not very good. All 5 of us were disappointed in the food and the service was horrendous. Mistakes delivered to table. Waiter had no idea who ordered what and the worse part was 2 of the 5 received our meal 15 mins before the other three. No excuse for that. Will not return."

  • "I came for dinner during restaurant week; the restaurant week menu didn't appeal, so I ordered from the regular menu for about the same cost- shrimp dumplings and BBQ salmon, both absolutely delicious, definitely spiced -interesting not hair-raising. Lovely decor, great service. I'll certainly return."

  • "This restaurant never fails. The decor is warm and inviting, the service is kind and attentive, the food is perfection. We find ourselves returning time and again with family and friends particularly when we are celebrating special occasions. The staff at Spice Market never fails to make any occasion special. Thank you."

  • "We have been dining at Spice Market for about 6 times in the last couple years. We are usually very happy and always try the tasting menu of $55 per person. It is nice that the menu changes one in a while, but we all found that the current selection wasn't as great as the previous menus. The portions were just too small, and the quality was much lower comparing to the last experiences we had there. Also, the "cool" idea of having all the doors and windows open in a humid and sticky August night in Manhattan while eating spicy food, and listening for the nonstop street noise & passing emergency vehicles, was a torture. Even the waiters told us that they have been sweating all evening long. I just wanted to get out of there, quickly."

  • "For a restaurant of this caliber, with an impressive chef and menu, I was a little surprised to find it was hard to track down our waiter to refill drinks. And when the food was served to our party of 4, for some bizarre reason, two dishes came out right away and about 20 minutes passed with no sign of the other two patron's meals. Eventually, I had to track down the waiter (which wasn't easy) to ask where the rest of the food was. Half the table had already finished eating by the time the other two were served their food. As I say, in a restaurant of this caliber, with this price point, that is very poor form."

  • "Very warm atmosphere with a effort to create a feel of Asia. Were there for an early dinner on a Sunday. Place was still rather empty. Still it took a while before our order was taken. To our surprise and frustration we were informed that the food would be served as it was finished in the kitchen and not brought out do we could enjoy eating together. Hence we ended up eating basically individually, at least one of us always watching the others staring at an empty plate in front herself. Food was great, very nicely spiced and presented. Good wine list"

  • "We previously visited this place during a vacation to NYC and loved it. When we recently moved to Jersey City, colleagues gave us a $250 gift certificate as a gift. Restaurant service was very good but the bar staff were the worst I have encountered in NYC (actually anywhere in the world!). Super rude, miserable and self involved. When they saw we were using a gift certificate they attempted to ignore us waiting for drinks. Let's be clear, a gift certificate isn't a coupon we got for free! It is still money at the end of the day! Food was just 'ok' due to being seriously over salted. I have had better Asian food elsewhere. Ambience and vibe make this a cool place to visit but I wouldn't recommend it based on the food or rude bar staff."

  • "This is my second visit to Spice Market. I was there two years ago when visiting New York. It was great the first time, and as great the second time this past Friday night for dinner. Great service, beautiful restaurant and the food... OMG - we enjoyed every single bite!! Everything is so tasteful and so original - can't find this anywhere else."

  • "Overpriced. Great ambiance but the quality of the food was not worth the buck. Touristy. The service was not consistent. We had a waiter that was very unfriendly and rude who later disappeared. Our second waitress was far more pleasant and attentive. Delicious drinks though. If you like drinks on the sweeter side, the passion fruit sangria is a must. All in all, you can get much better value for money in a less flashy place that does not have a celeb chef name. I would only recommend this place for drinks and the ambiance."

  • "My friend and I had lunch at Spice Market last Friday during restaurant week. We loved the ambiance and the decor. We sat near the windows, which were open, as the weather was beautiful. The soy cured tuna with creme fraiche appetizer was delicious. The skate wing entree had a spicy sauce and was also delicious. They didn't have the dessert choice of the ice cream sandwich, but offered us a chocolate sundae instead. It had caramel coated popcorn sprinkled over chocolate ice cream, a piece of banana and a dollop of whipped cream. The service was not great. It was not that busy as we went at 2:00 PM. We asked 3 times for more papadum and dip. Finally the manager brought it to us. The coffee was cold."

  • "Thought the spicy cod main entree for $27 would be bigger than a bar of soap, especially when that is all you are getting except for the small portion of veggie underneath it. If you want to leave here full, expect to order a lot more than two-three dishes per person. We were 4 people and we had 2 appetizers, 2 starch, 1 salad and 2 entrees as they say you share everything. We also had 3 desserts. We were still hungry when we left. And the price for LUNCH was $200 (including tip). No alcohol. Just iced tea. The food is very flavorful though but too pricey for the amount you get."
