Very excellent ambiance and service. The food was good, and while the presentation was excellent, and the flavors in the dishes were powerful and unique, the over-use of sauces and spices detracted from the focal ingredients in each dish.
We had the black pepper shrimp, crunchy squid salad, cod with chili sauce. The squid had been over-fried (the breading was dark brown/black), though still edible. The shrimp was tasty, but sauce was very over-powering; shrimp only provided texture to the dish. The cod was tasty, but when paired with the identical sauce from the shrimp, the cod lost it's essence.
Overall, the experience was good, I just had higher expectations from a Jean-George restaurant in terms of food.

We had to wait for 45 minutes for a table even when we had a reservation. Service lacked. Food options are limited. Not many vegetarian options.

We were a little nervous when we arrived with our 70 year old parents that this would be too loud and too hip. Turns out the noise level did not impact us at all because the food was so wonderful. Also, the staff did a great job of explaining the menu and acknowledging my 40th birthday. Bravo to Jean George!

Service was very good. Food was a big let down!! Textures were there and aromas but the actual flavor of the meats/fish were incredibly lacking for a se Asian restaurant or really any restaurant. I def think this place caters to someone with unadventurous taste buds. Ex. I ordered the chicken wings as one of the apps and three servers told me to beware of how hot they would be...tasted ok but I would not say they need to be prefaced w a warning. I would not recommend this place bc there are so many wonderful restaurants in the city that cost 1/4 I'd the price. I'm sorry bc I really had high hopes...I love JG.

We would all go back tomorrow if we could. We will make it a point to dine there next time we visit NYC. Delicious unique cuisine. Do not skip the Ginger Margaritas.

Went here the other day with a couple of friends. Service was a little disappointing, it took a long time for anyone to take our drink order. No one explained the menu or the way things work at the restaurant. Waiters have very little training and as it gets busier the logistics become a bit of a hassle for them. Food was fine but it would have been nice if the menu would say which entrees are served with noodles or vegetables and which aren't. Overall, it feels a little like a Buddhakan wannabe place, and didn't live up to the expectation.
