  • "I had my birthday at Spiazzo Ristorante and it was fabulous! We had about 15 people and SR was able to accommodate a last minute addition to the party. The food was fantastic! Many of my family members told me after dinner how delighted they were with the food especially since none of us had been to SR before. Moreover, my family has some picky eaters and all of them enjoyed themselves immensely. Our server, Cullen, was literally the best server I've had in years. SR's service, food, and ambiance have earned my trust for future family gatherings. In fact, my girlfriend and I are thinking of coming back soon just the two of us because we enjoyed the experience so much and the surrounding neighborhood is very charming."

However, we have noticed that the prices have creeped up over the years with our usual wine now being extremely overpriced; also many dishes that were competitive four years ago are just too expensive. Even desserts, which were not cheap to begin with, have been marked up more now."

  • "I had asked when making my reservation for a nice table since it was a graduation and we had a cake and presents. We were 7; they jammed us into a nook at the bay window at 2 small tables that could barely fit 6; they stuck a chair on the end and our 7th had absolutely no room for their setting and dishes. It seemed at first that we were going to get 3 grouped tables, but then a couple seemingly familiar to the hostess walked in w/o a rez and they were given one of the tables! I complained; neither hostess nor server seemed to care. The bread was very dry. The meals were generally tasty, though we literally had no room for our appetizers. The servers delivered dinner while the appetizers/salads were still on the table. Blech!"

  • "Absolutely loved my first visit; was excited to return on a week night with a friend. We sat a table near the front of the restaurant - - we must have been invisible because it took forever to get any attention or service - - and the restaurant wasn't even that crowded! On top of that, there were a lot of fruit flies around our table which became a real nuisance. The Carpaccio was thick like raw roast beef and very difficult to eat. The gnocchi was very good...but between the poor and very slow service and the flies at the table, I just wanted to leave...I even skipped dessert and I know they have great desserts. Really disappointed! Hope that was just an off night for the restaurant."

My daughter was balking about Italian until she ate the Pizza, LOVED that this was a great place for everyone. Thank you. Service, price everything was great. Will come back!!"

  • "So it was three days before my partner's graduation and all of a sudden I was responsible for making a reservation for all of his family members for the weirdest time. Just so you know, they don't all agree on a type of food and they all have weird dining restrictions like no dairy or no gluten. Spiazzo was amazing! They did everything we asked, made everyone feel comfortable and were not super expensive for the quality of food you get. For that two hours, I didn't have to babysit anyone. Spiazzo for the win!"

  • "When we visit our daughter at SFSU we always include a dinner at Spiazzo. A great, out of the way neighborhood with a small town feel. The restaurant is very small but we never feel rushed to free up our table. The bruschetta is wonderful, the pasta dishes have been perfectly cooked and the pork tenderloins have been tender and juicy. A small wine list, but we have been very pleased with what we have tried, most of them under 35.00. Service is attentive and friendly, you can see the locals are regulars as they are addressed by name. "

  • "We eat here frequently because the service is dependable and the food is always on target. Our most recent visit was a last minute reservation and we were seated quickly. My husband tried the Insalata Etrusca and I had the Insalata con le Pere. For our entrees, he had the Ravioli Naturale and I asked for a variation on the Penne al Salmone (which is normally penne with smoked and fresh salmon, shallots and green peas in a delicate tomato cream sauce) - this time I asked to have prawns instead of smoked salmon. While I love smoked salmon, this was a wonderful variation. There are special menu items daily and everything is expertly prepared and always tastes fresh. "

  • "I've been dining at this neighboorhood restaurant in West Portal for over a decade and what brings us back each time is not only the thoughtfully prepared dishes but the wonderful and familiar treatment by the owners - as if we are family joining them at the table - each and every time. The minnestrone with the fresh shaved parmesean is something we crave and everything from their delicious salads, to their perfect al dente pastas to their sauces - and wine suggestions - always hit the spot. Excellent service, product and experience - every single time."

  • "We had a delicious Cioppino type Italian dish (I don't remember the exact name), Minestrone Soup and the Artichoke salad. The food was scrumptious and it came very quickly despite the restaurant being very busy. It's was pretty loud and there wasn't a spare seat in the restaurant - we booked about an hour in advance on Open Table. So the noise would be the only downside but it was a Friday so you kind of expect that. We'll definitely go back - the food was a treat, it's a local restaurant on the main street of West Portal and the atmosphere was friendly. "

  • "My daughter recently moved near the restaurant and we were having dinner to celebrate her birthday a few days earlier. I was hoping to go somewhere nearby so she might be able to revisit with friends, etc. Spiazzo had good reviews so we tried it. Very Italian menu, a plus. If you have any sense of adventure, try the poached pears (not the menu title)! Every bite was a feast of flavor! Amazing! I had a risotto that was flavored partially with Italian sausage that was equally amazing. I'm a risotto snob, being pretty darn good at making it myself, and this was Really Good! The service was a great blend of attentive without hovering. The waiter helped with Italian wine selection too. Look forward to returning!"

The restaurant was not very busy, and we received a lot of attention from the wait staff, which was nice. Each of us ordered a different dish for lunch and we all enjoyed our meals. The restaurant could not have been more accommodating to our group thatgrew from 13 to 18..I had explained that we needed to get in and out in an hour. When we arrived the table was ready, beverages poured and they were ready to take our orders. Food was outstanding and portions were generous. Carol"

  • "We are lucky we came early because the place nearly filled up by 6:30 on a Monday night. The service was extremely attentive. I had the Zuppa di Pesci - an interesting mixed seafood dish in a spicy tomato broth over spaghetti. Delicious! My wife's dish was the veal scallopini with artichoke hearts. We were disappointed with the veal itself, but the sauce was scrumptious. The house Chianti was light and smooth. The restaurant is near one end of West Portal and we had a pleasant walk in the neighborhood after. The view outside isn't much since the Muni light rail cars are arriving or leaving the nearby station every few minutes."

  • "The food was fantastic and the service was definitely above average. I had a valentines day dinner here so I made a reservation so we didn't have to wait. But we had to wait like 5 mins for our table, which would have been fine, but they don't really have any seating or any area for waiting so we were kinda just blocking the entrance which was awkward. And it was quite loud but that's because it was super busy on account of valentines day. I had a great experience. I saw the owner running around and being apart of the service which I thought was nice to see. Overall, great restaurant for some decently priced authentic italian food."

  • "This restaurant was run meticuously on a very busy Valentines night. We were seated and tended to quickly by smiling people. The menu is varied with one whole page of specials to choose from. We started with a shared Cesar Salad (served on two small plates which is always the best!). For the main dish my husband had a Prawn/ Scallop Angel Hair Pasta dish and I had Salmon with artichoke served with mashed potatoes and fresh lightly cooked vegetables. The food was quite simply -perfect. We had a beautiful bottle of wine, and enjoyed seeing the Valentines of every age celebrating in this cozy busy restaurant. Tables were cleared quickly but we never felt rushed, A good natured wait staff is the punctuation mark for the experience. Fun Night!"

  • "The location is easier to park near than North Beach Italian Restaurants. We were greeted warmly and efficiently. Service was very good; we didn't have to ask for more bread or drink refills. The Caesar Salad was fine but nothing spectacular; although the dressing was lacking in flavor, the lettuce was fresh and crisp. I had the scrumptious Scaloppine Piccatina, which combined tender veal, a flavorful sauce, capers and artichokes, and was served with carrot mashed potatoes and flavorful vegetables. The Alaskan salmon with a wine and mustard sauce is not on the standard menu. I like mustard on my sandwiches, but was not drawn to order this on my fish. But after tasting this creation, I found it absolutely delicious. I would return again!"
