    From there, the elevator can be taken up to Level 2. An additional parking option is located in the building directly across the street at 1000 N Lake Shore Drive.

First time in Chicago, we picked a restaurant from a web-ad, with plans for a quick meal and a play. Once we stepped foot in Spiaggia - experienced their artistry, elegance and craft - we dropped the play like a hot potato! Newly remodeled, Spiaggia's sleek, modern edginess dances with spacious openness, courtesy of a glass wall facing the park and water. Their creative, adventurous, diverse fare, artful presentation, informed, charming (adorable) staff, and unadulterated opulence made the evening the best dining experience- and anniversary celebration- we've ever had! The wine list is notable, but expensive - the mark up was high, even for a top-end restaurant, and there were not enough bottles under$100."

  • "We were visiting Chicago for a few days, and Spiaggia was highly recommended to us. It was absolutely superb! We had the eight-course tasting menu, and all the courses were excellent. From the small cup of fresh pea soup, served as an amuse bouche, to the generous portion of lobster with watermelon appetizer, to the foie gras ravioli with uni, to the entree of suckling pig, to the assortment of desserts that are beyond description, it was an epicurean experience. One of the finest meals we've ever experienced at a restaurant. The cocktails were also perfect, and the service was impeccable. If there were a ten star rating I'd give Spiaggia ten stars."

  • "Some of the servers were a little stuffy - correcting my pronunciation, answering questions about the food as if I were stupid ("What sort of olive oil is this?" "We add glycerine to thicken it." "OK, but what kind is it? The olive flavor is nice and strong." "Oh, it's olive oil." Eventually, he explained that it's specially bottled in Italy for the restaurant and can be ordered through their site.) Some of the servers, and especially the sommelier, were more fun. Most bottles of wine cost over $200, but are very nice. Food was delicious, although I could do without the servers reciting the menu descriptions of the dishes as they are delivered. I do remember what I ordered. Desserts were perfect and entirely worth ordering."

  • "The new décor is very nice. We were given a choice table on the upper tier. The service started off exceptional, but became sporadic and indifferent. The menu is very limited with only five entrees to choose from. The portions were small in relation to the prices. Some dishes were outstanding and others were just ok. Two in our party ordered the veal chop ($65 each). They were huge, but not good quality meat and had very little taste. Very disappointing. The prices on the wine list are outrageously expensive, so we opted for cocktails. We still had a nice dinner, but I was expecting over-the-top food and service and was disenchanted with our overall experience."

I had seen the cafe menu, but when I booked online the reservation was for the restaurant. I should have been at the cafe.   • "My husband and I dined here for our 13th wedding anniversary, which we have done on 3 other anniversaries during the course of our marriage. While Spiaggia is consistently phenomenal and truly one of our favorite restaurants in a city full of great ones - the recent renovation and revised menu and their more artistic food presentation - make this my new favorite place in the city. The decor is both gorgeous, sophisticated and insightful. The service and wait staff and sommelier were all super friendly, cool, knowledgable and top top notch. They are not pretentious at all. Which makes for a great vibe. I never write a review for anything...but I have to say, we were blown away. It was perfection and fun and romantic! Thank you to them!!"

They no longer require such a formal dress code--which I think totally detracts from the dining experience. If you are going to spend upwards of $200/person on a meal, you kind of don't want to see other patrons walking in with windbreakers and jeans. Plus, Spiaggia does not use table cloths, so that also took away from the fine dining experience. All of the above notwithstanding, the most disappointing part of Spiaggia was the food itself. Everything was WAY TOO SALTY!!! I had the primavera salad, gnocchi, & turbot. None of the dishes were palatable at all. They offered to comp the entree, but we paid, knowing that we will never go back."

The menu is very limited, and the complex preparations are impressive as an art form, but some of them really aren't very satisfying. The huge all-Italian wine list seems directed to customers willing to spend several hundred dollars for a bottle that sells for a fraction of that price in a restaurant in Italy, but for most of us it's an annoying affectation that reflects an arrogant attitude toward diners who would appreciate being able to choose from some of the great American wines in the $100 to $200 range (or less) that equal or exceed the quality of the much more extravagant Italian offerings on Spiagia's list. "

  • "We have celebrated our wedding anniversary at Spiaggia for many of our 29 years. It opened around the time of our wedding so there is sentimental value. When they decided to remodel for the future, we were excited to see the results. The truth is not much changed. Booths were replaced with tables giving it a more open, but less warm feel. We were excited to see what they re-imagined with the food. The waiter still gives the "we recommend three courses" speech. Haven't we progressed beyond an upscale Italian restaurant explaining the food and how to order? I thought the food was not too different and not great, but not bad. Glad they still had the gnocchi missed the squid ink pasta. Just not a wow and at that price, it should be."

  • "Spiaggia has a great reputation, a Michelin star and is very, very expensive but we were very disappointed by our dining experience. The portions are very, very small. The scallop appetizer, priced at $25.00 consisted of one medium sized scallop in a delicious sauce. The Manzo steak entrée, two small slices weighing in at 3-4 ounces at most at $43.00, was good but less than filling. The salmon entrée was also very small priced at $42.00. The delicious sorbet was the only reasonably priced dish. However, we were still a bit hungry when we left the restaurant. The overly solicitous and stuffy service was interruptive and seemingly insincere. I really don't understand how this restaurant became so famous."

  • "Spiaggia, following a re-model, is reborn even better. The new look is clean and modern and, as the sun sets, very romantic. In the new lounge, a glass cover was lifted from a plate to allow smoke to escape. The dish of thinly sliced octopus was beautiful, complicated and wonderfully smoky. Chef Mantuano has long been famous for his ability to elevate single ingredients. The philosophy is unchanged but the degree of difficulty is higher than ever. You taste each flavor distinctly even in a plate showcasing numerous enhancing elements, stunningly composed. My first bite of suckling pig changed forever my view of pork. Risotto with fried perch and oyster was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Surpassed high expectations."

Wagyu beef tartare appetizer was encased in crust that led to amazing contrasts of flavor and texture. All in all, terrific food.   • "I went to this restaurant for my birthday celebration with my friend, who had been there in the past. We had the five course dinner, which was very good in terms of preparation and taste. Portions were pretty small. Our waitress did not appear very interested in us, and only explained the menu after we asked her about it. After that, she was chatting with the other waiters and checked back in periodically only long enough for us to say that things were "fine." My friend had the wine pairing, and the pours were very small! Odd to have such poor service and small portions when dinner came out to $450 total. I was not thrilled by my experience. It was okay, but not worth repeating."
