Diner Reviews
  • "We've dined at Sperata on several occasions now and have never been disappointed. Regardless the occasion, if you're looking for a quiet night out with that special someone to enjoy some great food, this place is as dependable as they come."

  • "This was a great place to go !! This was the first time we went to this restaurant and it was great. My wife and I met friends for my Birthday !! We were treated with excellent service and 5 star rated food. I had blue cheese encrusted filet and my friend had asked if they could prepare the filet a different way. The waiter and kitchen staff was happy to prepare the filet a different way and it was great. I can not say enough about our experience. If you get a chance to go to this restaurant go and experience this great find."

  • "Sperata is a world-class dining experience. The restaurant is beautiful, the food is top notch and the staff is a credit to the industry. There are very few places left that take this kind of pride in their overall product."

  • "We celebrated a friend's birthday lunch here. This restaurant is excellent for being able to hear each other. Love the soft music. Service is wonderful. We have eaten lunches and dinners here before. We always have a wonderful time. A+"

  • "Food was excellent. The sweet onion tart... Off the charts. Took a little longer to get the main course than should have so they brought out another appetizer on the house. Will definitely go back."

  • "I enjoyed the ambiance of the dining area. The food was wonderful and the service was superb. I was quite impressed at the amount of food each order supplied. I was expecting small portions in that environment. I have already suggested Sperta to a few of my friends and family members."

  • "We have been to Sperata many times and it consistently exceeds our expectations! The food is always great and there are always new things to try in addition to some favorites that are on the menu. Service is always good and personable."

  • "We will go back. We had a very nice lunch...Must try their Port wine...very,very good..."

  • "My wife and I wanted to find a local fine-dining restaurant to celebrate. We decided to visit Sperata this past weekend and were very impressed! The service was spot on. Our waiter was attentive, informative, obviously proud of the restaurant, and made suggestions without being "pushy". The food was truly excellent, just as we had hoped. I especially recommend the lobster & crab bisque. And, their homemade bread was outstanding! Their prices are, admittedly, a little on the higher side, but an appropriate value for what we consider to be fine-dining. We would absolutely recommend this establishment."

  • "Was a little disappointed the Valentines menu was still offered on Saturday, unable to order off the regular menu. Had the filet of beef (just ok) and the mahi (very good) - the shrimp appetizer was perfect and the martini was strong. Our server was younger and perhaps newer - he was fine but not exceptional which I am used to there, especially for the price. They also added extra tables which is good to get more guests in on a busy night but also adds to the noise and closer quarters between diners. It's a trade-off. All in all it was good but not great..."

  • "We tried to get reservations for St. Valentines Day but were too late however, as a result we made reservations for Saturday. The seating was a 6 and when we arrived (on-time) we were seated immediately. The wait staff was very knowledgable about the menu and had great recommendations. During the dinner, they were attentive but not intrusive and handled our requests promptly. The food was excellent in presentation and flavor. We had the Pork Wellington and the Atlantic Cod. The Wellington pastry was a touch soggy on the bottom but the duxelle was amazing along with the tenderness of the perfectly cooked pork. The cod was spectacular. I would highly recommend their specials as well. Enjoyed it thoroughly!"

  • "Went there for a Valentine Special dinner and was initially pleased with a warm comfortable decor. The service was good. The food was also good, but not beyond good. The price was equal to that of a five star restaurant and Sperata is more of a three. The noise level is too loud for a romantic evening and especially too loud for a party larger than two. I would go back....if someone else is paying."

  • "Very pricey to go to on valentines day. They had a very limited menu option 3 courses(app, salad, and entree) for $65 a person. Portions were a decent size but were overpriced. Was not made aware of special menu and pricing when making reservations. Menu on open table app showed a different price set than I ended up paying"

  • "We went for a special evening with friends, and were surprised to find a prix fixe menu. We went the day after Valentines Day, and they apparently were running the "special menu" all weekend. This was a let down, as there were certain menu items we were looking forward to trying. My friend (who is much more wine knowledgable than I) tried to choose a wine, but the first SIX that he asked about from their menu we re "all out, sorry sir." When we asked about the varietal of the bottles that the waiter was suggesting, the waiter did not understand. And I tried to order the filet of beef, but that watier said "I chickened out," and talked me into the leg of lamb, which was so tough to cut and eat, I only had a few bites. Good time despite."

  • "Sperata can be great or it can be entirely disappointing. More often disappointing of late. Food is pricey and at best passable. Service is just OK and the staff are not very accommodating. Despite making reservations 2 weeks ago, we were seated next to the front door so it was cold and at times there were 10-12 people standing in the small space by our table. With a cold breeze and butts in our face, we asked (even before being served) to move to one of 4 open tables toward the rear of the place and were denied....though these tables stayed open until we were paying our check. The food was just OK, none of the flair and interesting compositions that had been Sperata of the past. Will not go there again."

  • "Our window seat table was ready upon arrival and Our server, Oliver, greeted us shortly thereafter. He explained the special menu and gave recommendations when requested. Crab and lobster bisque was wonderful, salad was superb, and snapper over Polenta was great. My wife enjoyed the Vidalia onion tart and a filet. Too full for dessert. Little expensive but a real treat."

  • "Love this place. I think they were overwhelmed. Cod with crab and filet were awesome. Potatoes gratin were burnt and the cheesecake was too salty too eat. Overall a great valentine's. Our waiter was fantastic."

  • "Wow. Could have been SO much better. They serve hot and cold food on the same app plate. Food that just did not pair well. Poor waiter tried his best, but he just wasn't suited for this type of atmosphere. Real disappointment."

  • "Piano jazz music! The wine list has some excellent selections, as well as the menu itself. It is a perfect date spot, which allows the patrons time to enjoy each course of the meal, as well as the company of the table partner(s). Be prepared to wait a while longer than you typically would at a typical restaurant, as they're creating an ambience, not meeting a ticket time requirement. The server was also knowledgeable and attentive. The banana rum tilapia & apple cider pork chop were incredible. Best checkout experience ever- electronic check brought to table and covered with the patron. Then, by using 'squareup' the guest pays & tips within seconds. Every restaurant should be doing this. Amazing."

  • "Overall experience good, but waiter dampened the evening by being haughty, inattentive, unpleasant, and unfriendly. We have eaten here several times before and usually enjoyed it (and there is another waiter there who has been there for a long time and is fabulous and one of the best in the business, but we were sadly not in his section) but next time will probably try one of the other lovely restaurants on Main Street so as not to potentially have this waiter again."

  • "Atmosphere was nice but the food and service were less than great. We ordered the ribeye roast and it was fatty. Not a good piece of meat. They "forgot" our sides and didn't get those until our steak was finished. Service was poor. We stood at the hostess stand for five minutes before anyone greeted us. If you're going to Buford choose Adam's instead."

  • "The food wasd delicious, as usual. They have changed the menu so that the entrees do not include sides. Sides are family style sharing. I liked this because often the entree got lost in all the stuff on the plate. Good change"

  • "I had a great experience here. We booked reservations through opentable and were seated promptly upon our arrival. There was a pianist playing and the restaurant looked upscale, clean and well maintained. Our server, Oliver, could have been a little more attentive as it took a while for him to get our drink order and our initial food order as well our food took it's time getting to us so as to ask for a second serving of bread. Outside of that, the food was EXCELLENT. My date had the mahi oscar and i had lamb with a shiraz reduction and mint sauce. I can't say enough about how well the food was prepared. Our wait was rewarded. I'll be back for sure."

  • "Since I had not been to Sperata for two years I was expecting change. To my delight there was no change as it was as memorable as the last time I was there and the food was fantastic as I had hoped for. I t was very busy and the staff showed the pressure. Mike was very good to us but his stress showed through. Quick and efficient ...a little too quick and a little too efficient. A little slower pace and interaction would have been great."
    Dined on 1/11/2014
  • "We had a wonderful time. The food was fantastic and the service was superb! However, people were dragging tables upstairs and it was very annoying. I mentioned that to our server and he went upstairs and asked them to pick up the tables, not drag them across the floor."

  • "We were not surprised that Sperata had a fixed menu on New Years Eve, but were very surprised by the poor quality and choices of food/wine they were offering for the fixed menu price of $65 for food and $25 for wine. The wines they were serving were nothing more than a $10 bottle of wine you can purchase at your local grocery store. When we tried to order a glass of wine or a different bottle, we were told they were in a transitional period and didn't have a wine menu or even a fixed glass price. The other option was a pricey buffet that consisted of very well steamed vegetables and over cooked meat should customers prefer a buffet over a fixed menu. Our server was not helpful or concerned about our concerns so we got up and left."

  • "My date and I along with another couple made reservations for New Year's Eve dinner. After we were seated by the tactless hostess, we waited about 15 minutes before finally asking someone to find our waiter. The service was very slow afterward. We all got the set price menu. The waiter had to be asked every time to bring the corresponding wine. The food was merely OK, and the dessert didn't seem any better than grocery store fare heated in an oven. I was very disappointed considering it was $90 per person."

  • "We took part in Sperata's New Years Eve celebration. Five of the six of us had the Sea Bass and were quite pleased. The chocolate dessert was awesome. Michael, our waiter was very attentive and kept our meal on track. Considering that it was very busy and there was a set menu, the price was in line for the occasion. The only down part of the evening was that very few of the diners took part in the post dinner celebration up-stairs."

  • "I had reservations and was seated at a table close to the front and my husband asked for one further to the back and were told that they were all reserved. They had several open tables, so we didn't understand the reasoning there. I had the cod special and it was very salty. The sides and desserts were good, though."

  • "My first time eating at a restaurant for Thanksgiving turned out very well thanks to Sperata. The holiday menu included both traditional & ecletic selections for each course. While the service was a bit slow at times, the bar was well stocked & the food was quite tasty. My favorite was the delectable squash soup which is saying something since I'm not usually fond of squash dishes. The turkey entree was a bit overwhelming as there seemed to be too much of a medley of ingredients but the overall taste still came out quite delicious (& though I usually can't stand brussel sprouts, they were sauteed & flavored enticingly enough for me to eat them all). I would definitely recommend trying this place at least once."

  • "This was our fourth time at Sperata. We have enjoyed each visit. The food is prepared with great attention. The chef who is also the owner has a creative bent that produces the most remarkable food combinations. The service is discrete and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is charming. We highly recommend this neighborhood gem"

  • "This Thanksgiving dinner was as fine a meal as I've had anywhere. The four-course fixed price menu had varied selections. The portions were generous. The presentation was beautiful. I chose the vidalia onion tart for the first course. This southern standby was lifted from the ordinary with an exceptionally flaky crust, just right touch of sweetness, and served over marinara sauce. Served with the large flaky crust, softer center, herbed flavored rolls, this would have been a spectacular lunch. Assuming the rest of the meal would be as outstanding, I wisely limited myself to eating only half the portion. As expected the house salad was anything but the standard lettuce and a little trimmings. The rest of the meal exceeded expectations."

  • "We can't even begin to say how much we like Sperata's. The food, the service, the ambience are all the best. If there was a rating higher than outstanding we would choose it. We've loved going to Sperata's since we discovered it three years ago and have never been disappointed."

  • "Meat eaters and people who like to gorge themselves on fresh baked bread will love this place. The chef was not tolerate that I didn't want to eat meat or bread. Hello, gluten? I made a specific request to have a green salad as my salad course, and a Caprese (tomato) salad as my entree. Chef personally came out with my Caprese, two plates, with instructions for sharing. Said he would divide my husband's dish into two plates, because I should eat more than salad. Trying to be polite, I said I don't eat that, and then he questioned me, was I allergic? Many times he asked? you would like it if I tried it, and so on. I felt very uncomfortable. I just wanted to enjoy my salad and wine and be happy. Chef came back "you wouldn't even taste it?""

  • "Downtown Buford is a very cool area. This looked like a cool spot. It was not. 2 of our group ordered something and were brought something else and were told that "it was the chef's interpretation of ..." Weak beer list and very average wine list."
