Spenger's Fresh Fish GrottoAlways reliable and great seafoodWe entertain our guest speaker each month at Spenger,s. Our group ranges from 10 to 16. They always accommodate us, shift tables, whatever we need. The staff is helpful and patient. Our visitors travel from all over the world and very impressed with the fresh seafood preparations they find here at Spenger's. It is especially nice that they can adopt their recipes for people's food allergies or make something special for someone with special dietary needs. It was one line that formed for the full buffet. Our server, Emily was great! She was very friendly and knowledgable of the menu and wine list. We enjoyed a great bottle of wine, nice fresh salad and two great entrees, blackened catfish and a almond crusted sole, both were cooked perfectly, vegetables were very fresh. Our group dinner was a gift to the newest generation of Cal students in our family (now 4 of them!). Hopefully this is a tradition that will last for futre generations.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMUpon entering the restaurant,Upon entering the restaurant, I was seated immediately and was greeted by the waitress within two minutes. The beverage order was taken promptly (NOTE: notable beer section). I ordered the lunch special, which came out fresh and hot. Even for lunch, the Grotto serves bread. But this is no ordinary bread – perhaps the best sourdough bread in the Bay Area. The bread alone is worth coming back. In short: Food, Service and Ambiance were well above expectations. It was so good, that I recommended the Grotto to a business partner, which went there the same day for dinner, and made the same delightful experience. Parking is easy too.
