Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I haven't been back to this restaurant for about 3 years due to a very poor dining experience with our daughter. Both the service as well as the food were awful on this occasion, and both had been declining for some time. Well we finally decided to try it again. It was great. Both the food, as well as the service were outstanding. We will be happy to go back and enjoy the restaurant again. Please keep it up."

  • "When we got there we were the only ones in the place so having my 3 grandchildren (4-6) was great. I was the birthday boy (65) so for lunch I got the most expensive item... and got the smallest filet and a giant prawn and 2 sticks of vegie. my wife got the hamburger and it had more and cost almost half. So the price for what you get.... not good. Lunch for 3 was 95 bucks. will we return... no not until I win the mega jackpot."

  • "My wife and I took my mom there for her birthday. The food was great as well as the service. We got there for an early dinner so it was not busy and it was quiet. I have been here before and the noise level has been on the quiet side which is nice. Kudos to the staff as they always do a great job."

  • "My husband LOVES steak; a friend recommended Spencers. We booked our reservation on line. Met with a friendly attendant who offered free valet if eating at Spencers. The restaurant was warm and inviting. Beautiful bar, rich warm tones with nice lighting. We were promptly seated and enjoyed a few cocktails and then a seared Ahi appetizer which really was excellent. Our server was fabulous; knowing the menu and making well informed suggestions. He was timely and consistently making sure we had everything we needed. The dinner served to us was absolutely amazing. The steaks were cooked to perfection and were tender and juicy. Bacon mac and cheese was fab! They also helped with the birthday celebrations, arranging candles and cake."

  • "Everything about our annual meal for our anniversary was, as usual, great. The waitress was fantastic. We will be back again next year when we celebrate our 45th anniversary."

  • "Service and food were both better than we have experienced in a long time."

  • "I felt the food was way too expensive for what you got. I ordered the 12oz New York and it was OK, but not worth the $42 (ala carte)."

  • "My fiancee and I tried a steakhouse in Spokane last year (Churchills) for Restaurant Week and had a great experience. We figured we would try Spencer's this year but did not have the same experience. The way I understood RW to have worked is that those who can't normally afford some of the finer dining options in Spokane are given a break on the high prices, not nickel and dimed as I felt we were. The portion sizes were incredibly small (3-4 ounce steaks) and I was still hungry upon leaving. With the parking fee, which I was too late that it was included, I dropped 100 dollars for a dinner for two that did not satisfy and was a large rip-off in my opinion for what we got. I will not be returning to Spencers nor recommending it to others."

  • "Even though the food was good, I didn't feel it was worth the price. There are other steak houses in town who prepare a better steak for less money. Great selection of wine!"

  • "Spencer's holds the distinction as the established steakhouse in Spokane serving Prime grade beef. The ambiance hits the right note with the exception that the lights were too low. The menu fits classic steakhouse orthodoxy; the wine list is robust. Our server went MIA for 20 minutes after we ordered wine. I expect there was a legitimate crisis somewhere else but would have liked to see him offer us salads or dessert on the house. He didn't and his rehearsed speech on Prime graded beef felt rote. He did point us to a great bottle of wine that we had not noticed. Our steaks were cooked spot on. The spinach side was a garlic-lover's dream. The onion soup was exceptional. I'll slip back in for lunch for another bowl."

  • "I sent a email reservation for lunch during the Christmas period over the internet. I went to the restaurant on the appointed day only to find that it was not open for lunch. I had to pay for parking to find out that you were not open, and then try to get into another restaurant during the busy Christmas season. I felt some should called to tell that we are not open for lunch thanks very much, but not call, and I feel like why bother to support a restaurant that is not polite enough to notify me of that fact you were not open when I wanted the reservation."

  • "Went for Spokane Restaurant week but was pretty disappointed with the portion size. It was more like a tapa than a meal."

  • "We brought our own wine and asked it to be decanted. It took about 15 minutes for the server to get back to us. We sat there drinking our water. The service was slow and very impersonal."

  • "As someone who regularly eats at Spencer's I absolutely loved the restaurant during Spokane's restaurant week. In addition to our pre fix menu we ordered the spicy sweet potatoes - A MUST ORDER."

  • "Steak did not live up to its price tag. I ate here and at Churchill's in the same week. Churchill's was a much better steak. I got the same cut at both places."

  • "We went during restaurant week so the prices were a little more bearable. Service was excellent start to finish, waiter was very knowledgeable. Loved the food."

  • "We take a group of customers to Spencer's every year for dinner and the quality of the food is worse than I remember. The steaks are nothing special; however, the sides and appetizers are very good. We enjoy each other's company so that makes the dinner memorable but we wish our customers would choose a different restaurant at times when the flagship product, steaks, is less than stellar. This year we had a remarkable waiter, Jeff who was very good although his great service slowed his rotations through his tables. We had a 6:30 reservation and left at 10p which was elongated by Jeff's absence at times."

  • "The only factor keeping my reservation from the "fifth star" was the expansive selection yet pricey wine list. A small challenge when considering that from the time you are greeted by the Hostess till you leave you feel welcomed. There are steakhouses that claim to be the top of the high-end dining locations however, Spencer's is the only one to deliver on all levels of the experience of class. From the ambience of the room, the friendliness of the staff, the quality of the lounge, the level of the food, Spenser's will not disappoint when looking for a memorable 4-Star venture."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary there on a Saturday night. The food was excellent. The room was at capacity and a bit noisy to the point of hard to hear the waiter when he spoke to us."

  • "The server was by himself for all the tables. Food was good - table had steak, lamb, and elk. Good was pretty good actually....but expensive. $300+ for four with one bottle of ~$55 +/- wine. Took over 2 hours."

  • "Our food was very good our waiter Matt was not very friendly and when we first arrived we asked for a booth. We made a reservation and it was not busy so not sure why it was such a problem to switch tables. We still tipped him 20% but he needs to have some more personality"

  • "My wife and I went to Spencer's for a nice semi-formal upscale dinner. We were somewhat disappointed by what we got. We both order the Filet Mignon with soup and salad to start, a baked potato for the side and the naughty cake to finish off the meal. The steak was good but not great and somewhat overpriced compared to other steak we've had in town of similar quality. The ambience was the biggest disappointment. The room was quite noisy, on par with a Red Robin. We've eaten at similar establishments both local and out of town with similar size crowds without the additional noise. Also, wIth this type of establishment you wouldn't expect such a lax dresscode. The naughty cake was quite good though. Your dollar is better spent elsewhere."

  • "We decided to go to a nice dinner for Christmas this year instead of cooking at home and we chose Spencer's because we heard good things and already tried the other high end steak houses in the area. When we showed up at our scheduled time we were not seated promptly and there was confusion about what table we should be seated at even though there were many open tables. Our waiter seemed a bit confused and when we ordered wine it took three attempts for him to understand our order. The rest of the meal was extremely slow and it took several attempts of waiving him down just to get refills on our water. The food was good but I expect a much better experience when going somewhere like Spencer's. Good food, mediocre service."

  • "We've eaten at Spencer's a number of times and the food is usually exceptional, but this time the steak was very disappointing. It was flavorless and not at all up to par, especially considering the prices. Both of our steaks also tasted oddly of cinnamon. Hopefully it was just an off night and not a change in the quality of the steak they are purchasing or the preparation methods. The sides were all very good. The service and ambiance were wonderful."

  • "We went to Spencer's for a great steak supper. unfortunately the beef was not up to the standards of a Prime restaurant. Despite being offered as prime beef, it was tough and flavorless, especially for the price. I will say it was cooked correctly…."

  • "Steak was excellent. Green beans were served luke warm at best. Our server was not very friendly like the other severs. Maybe he was having a bad day."

  • "The evening didn't start well when I was told there was no valet parking spots available and the parking garage was full. So I had to park three blocks away on a night when it was 7 degrees! Once inside, the experience improved considerably. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful. We both started with steak soup, which definitely warmed us on a cold evening. My wife had NY Strip steak and I had "surf and turf". Both entrees were superb. We told our waiter we were headed to a Zags game, and he ensured we left on time. Not surprising for this type of restaurant, but it was a very expensive evening. The entrees are highly priced, and any accompaniments are extra. Save this spot for a special occasion or an important business meeting!"

  • "My Bday dinner came down to two Steak Houses I've never been to, Spencer's and Churchhill's. We chose Spencer's this year and it was awesome, wonderfull food, very attentive service, just all around what I wanted."

  • "While not inexpensive, the friendly and attentive waitstaff, promise-fulfilling menu, and well-poured drinks all pleased us so well that we made Spencer's our home away from home while visiting Spokane this past October. The city boasts other lovely eateries to be sure, but it was an unexpected pleasure to find such a nice place located in our hotel, staffed by people who were genuinely concerned that our steak house experience with them was everything we expected. We look forward to returning!"

  • "This restaurant is lovely. BUT, the food was just okay, and very proudly priced. Stale bread at a 'fine' steakhouse? Totally started us off on the wrong foot, because it's the little things they should be able to get right. I don't mind spending almost $200 for a fine meal for the two of us, but it better be special. And this was just ok. The 'add ons' were really average. The steaks were good. But not Ruth's Chris good, but priced the same. (And in Spokane!) And our waiter had a 5 minute spiel about the steaks and the 'experience' that was just irritating and overused (we heard the same drone at the table next to us)."
