Overall the meal was good BUT my friends kale salad didn't have any bacon or croutons as mine did and her pasta had a hair in it at the first bite. We thought we should have been offered something in compensation but weren't!!!

My family travelled from various cities in Niagara to dine at Spencer's for my 65th birthday. The hostess and waiter were great in helping us to be seated and allowing us to order as the group arrived at various times due to traffic delays. Our food arrived in timely fashion so that we were all eating together as the evening progressed. Everyone enjoyed the food presentation and taste. The servings were large. We will be back.

  • First Visit to Spencer's

Our first visit, likely won't be our last. Our waiter (I think his name was Mac) was truly excellent and provided gratis flutes of champagne at the end of our meal to toast our 39th wedding anniversary. A surprising and much appreciated nice touch. As nice as the food and service was, it was of course the location that lent the most to our dining experience. The Burlington Teen Tour Band was practicing on the waterfront. The views over the water, dotted with sail and power boats, were outstanding and as the outside lights gradually came on and table candles were lit, the interior lighting was dimmed too. All in all a delightful experience - if a little pricey!

We were placed at the last window seat right by the door to patio and server station. This is the most undesirable location to be placed: servers whizzing by every 5 seconds slamming into each other, commotion, very loud. It was horrible. Our order came out wrong (gave me chicken dish while I ordered vegetarian pasta), had to wait to have my correct meal made and have my husband's put in the warmer to wait for me. Felt rushed, the place was a commotion, and our view was of a another couple 3 inches in front of us outside the window on the patio. For a special night out away from the kids it was an hour and half whirlwind that we will not be repeating, for the cost of the bill and overall disappointing experience.

The service when we got there didn't exist. It took about 10 minutes before someone came to our table. It was the bartender that noticed and sent someone over. That kind of started off on the wrong footing. Would we come back? No.

We arrived and our table was ready, the waitress told us that they were closing the kitchen because they stopped serving lunch and the only items available were the starters and some salads without the option to add chicken, etc. I was so angry, my kids were hungry. We arrived passed 3 and they say in their website they serve lunch until 430, the policy of closing the kitchen one hour and a half before the time posted on their website is not clear. It was pricey for what they served us. When we went out, they were prepping for a wedding and the waiters were having an awesome hamburger, that was not available for us in the menu, we just felt they were short staffed and they were having other priorities.

The setting is really beautiful. I loved the modern building and was drawn to it because it's on the lake. It was an incredibly windy day when we were there but the patio was sheltered from the wind so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. The staff was friendly and the food was great. My sister and I are both Vegetarians so we had the pasta. It had eggplant in the dish so the only negative comment I would have is that I would have preferred that the eggplant been cooked a bit longer. Other than that everything was outstanding and I would definitely go back. It was worth the trip from Toronto for sure.

We joined another couple on a weeknight for dinner. We were greeted and seated promptly and our server came to the table to attend to us right away. We enjoyed our appetizers and main course. The halibut was cooked to perfection. Our server did not rush us, but was attentive. Prices were what one expects in this type of restaurant. The noise level was high, making conversation across the table almost impossible. This was not a big problem for us, but anyone wanted a nice quiet dinner would be disappointed.

Was it the fabulous view of Lake Ontario and the reflective pool from our window seat or was it the friendly and efficient wait staff or was it the great food served and cooked to perfection or was it the glass of champagne that welcomed us to our first experience at this restaurant? In any case it was truly an anniversary to remember (38 years by the way!). Thanks Spencer's! we'll be back for sure!

At first glance Spencer's is a beautiful restaurant with a scenic view of the lake. The ambiance is somewhat romantic with low lighting and pleasant decor. My partner had the Seafood bake which was lobster, clam and mussel served with potato and half of a corn with broth. I had the Butcher choice with mashed potatoes and mushroom. The steak was too fatty for my liking and it needed some more seasoning, it was a bit bland, but overall not a bad dish. We later had the chocolate cake which was really a small very extremely cooked brownie with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. The dessert for $11 was overpriced as well as the meals was exuberantly over priced for the quality of food we were served.

Loved the setting for the restaurant. Interior was warm and inviting. Aisles were too narrow. Noise level elevated quickly to where it was hard to carry on a conversation with someone right across the table from you. The electronic blinds to block the setting sun were impressive. The intimate booths might have also been placed at the window where the scenery could have been enjoyed more privately. Food portions were on the smallish size, but nicely presented. I really felt the food descriptions were pretentious to say the least and ridiculous that we had to have the dessert menu translated.

The restaurant is beautiful as is the views of the lake, but the price point is way out of line for the food quality. For example, $22 for adding lobster to a steak when the lobster was barely the size of an average shrimp. The $38 halibut was approximately 2 oz served with corn and very little else. The vegetables served with the steak (broccolini) couldn't be cut ever with a steak knife and the potatoes Au gratin were dry and flavorless. The restaurant wouldn't last a week in any other city but it seems to be the best in Burlington. The restaurant was seeming to try to hard to make its food fancy to justify the price point when it's quality was actually lower than better restaurants like the keg or canyon creek. I'd avoid this place.

We were a party of 9 adults and 2 children. One of the children was sleeping but was not all owed to sit with mother. We ordered 2 bottles of wine but were supplied with dearer wine than ordered which was not noticed at time. When phoned later was offered $50 but this ended up as $30 out of a bill of $666. Not good.

The restaurant was absolutely beautiful however the food was disappointing. We had a delicious scallop appetizer which set our expectations for the rest of the evening. We ordered two seafood dishes, the Mediterranean Seabass and the Salmon with Ricotta. The salmon tasted undercooked and the ricotta was awful. The entire dish lacked flavour. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It's a beautiful restaurant, it's a shame the food is not up to par.

I've been to Spencers 3 times, dinner and brunch. Always a beautiful place. The food was lacking this time. The hot food was not very hot, many items were bland such as the curry chicken and roast beef. The best part of the food was the omelette and waffle station. The items were tasty and hot because it was made to order. Even dessert was disappointing. Bread pudding, a few cookies, not what I consider high end dessert. Very expensive for the quality of the food.

Scene was uninviting. Web wasn't clear that we wouldn't receive champagne at our brunch just because we went to the earlier seating. Staff did not engage at all, no smiles, didn't ask what we were celebrating. Crepe station: unorganized, plates were dirty, nobody asked how they could help, just left us standing there until we said "I'll have a crepe", guys weren't wearing gloves, kept touching the dirty outdoor railing behind them and then touching the food. Food was ok, but not worth the money. Was thinking of having a special occasion there, no thanks!

Ambiance: Awesome Service: Amazing Food: Not sure what happened this time, but we ordered some steaks, they came out really cold to the look and to taste! Could be because it was right at time kitchen was closing 10pm! But for sure if we go back it will be for the beautiful setting outside & for the amazing friendly waiter we had. Might just stick to the appetizers such as Octopus and Calamaris!

The view of the lake is wonderful but the food is just okay. We ordered the cheese plate for appetizer which was really good but really small for the price. The burger and fries were good but very messy so don't order if you're there on a date or business lunch. Skip the caesar salad. The salad was room temperature, not cold, and the kale used in the salad didn't go with the dressing.
