SpeisekammerAccessible German FaireSpeisekammer gets all the details right - the owner / chef has taken great pains in providing the most authentic German experience, that is accessible even for Mediterranean-cuisine heavy Bay Area residents.
The beer list is representative, and covers all the major German flavors; the food menu, notably the Schweinebraten, the sausage options, and the side order options, is uncluttered and authentic.
Same goes for the décor and ambiance - authentic, friendly, accessible.
This is as good as it gets this side of a Paulaner Gasthaus in Germany, and is very representative of the post-unification, modern Germany.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for a family dinnerSpeisekammer has a European atmosphere and great quality food. The beer selection is equally impressive.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGood German FoodThe food was delicious, although hard to pronounce. This place is a great and tasty way to be introduced to German cuisine. The hefeweizen they have on tap tasted great and paired well with the food. Although we sat in the backroom, we had no issue with the service. She was there when we needed her and wasn't around when we didn't.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service was veryFood and service was very good. Noise level increased when large parties were brought into the room.
Ask for the smaller room.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is delicious. Comes inFood is delicious. Comes in different size portions to accommodate all appetites.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new favorite restaurant! This place is amazing! Everything that hit the table was delicious! The Reibekuchen (potato pancake with apple compote) are out of this world! Roasted Chicken and Pork Shank were to die for. We may be heading back for lunch today. SO GOOD!!!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat beer selection especiallyGreat beer selection especially Gluten Free.
Food is excellent German food with large portion sizes even with half order option.
Great potato pancakes. I'll definitely be back.
Only shortcoming was entrees took 45 minutes to arrive. They may have been shorthanded so not fatal. I would have otherwise given them 4 stars.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA German gem!Best German restaurant in the East Bay period. I don't know why I waited six years to find it. As long as a German restaurant has great German beer, which Speisekammer does, I usually give it a thumbs up, but this place has excellent food too!, an adorable, German fraulein for a server, and is super accommodating to kids. If I had three thumbs they would all be up.
Can't wait to try out the sunny beer garden!
Phil4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great dinner. Went withHad a great dinner. Went with the specials and was pleased. Great German beer, in tap, Tables are close together, when it appears it doesn't need to be.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat German Food with Atmosphere! This was our first time at Speisekammer. I was looking for a restaurant in Alameda and saw the ratings in Yelp. My wife and I thought we would give it a try as we love German food. We love this place other than the parking which is a real pain. The food and service were terrific. We Wiener Schnitzel with Beet salad coupled with some great German beer. We will be back and bring our family.
You can't go wrong with Speisekammer!!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great, service wasFood was great, service was great. Many selections of beer, had a few different kinds and it was awesome! I went with a large group and as you know the gratuities are generally include (and in this case they were); however, we did not notice this and left another one based on the entire total. The next day, Anthony, call me and told me what we did and credited the additional gratuities back to our card. Who does this? That was awesome and just a testimonial to the great service. It was only my second time there and we will be back!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband claims the foodMy husband claims the food is almost as good as his grandmother's and she is from Germany!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was amazing! The pricesFood was amazing! The prices are also pretty decent. Would come back here again for sure.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGood for lunch tooExploring the menu further, we tried the the Kalte Fischplatte, a cold seafood antipasti of shrimp, gravlax, pickled herring & smoked trout. Comes with a mild sour cream/cucumber salad on the plate; very tasty. The Schweinebraten sandwich is quite large on a fresh French bread roll, with good fries. The Floris, a 3.8% Belgian apple beer, is very refreshing. Always good espresso drinks which is appreciated. Often crowded for lunch on Fridays, so make a reservation just in case!2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat sausages, sauerkraut & beer! We're lucky to have good German food in the EBay. The Nurmberger sausages with sauerkraut are great. Ask for some sour cream with the potato pancakes; luscious with their tart housemade applesauce. Skip Saul's and come here for latkes, SO MUCH BETTER! Spouse loves the spaetzle, whether plain or with cheese. The little pickled salad that comes w/full order of spaetzle is terrific, like a coleslaw but better. Smoked pork chop is as good as Wente's famed pork chop but cheaper and nearer. Bread pudding was best dessert of the night. Service is always very good here, a real draw. Loved the Spaten Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse wheat beer with fun banana flavor, light and crisp.2/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
