SpecchioGreat spot in the MissionSpecchio is a hidden gem in the Mission that many people don't know about. Friendly staff, large portions at reasonable price and great atmosphere make it an ideal spot for dinner. Large and hip space with vintage Italian movies projected on the main wall above the open kitchen is a cool touch. It's nice to eat great Italian food without having to yell to your friends like in most overcrowded Mission restaurants.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Italian food at a good priceThe quality and value at this restaurant is outstanding. This was our second visit and we tried different dishes each time. Each dish had it's unique quality. The last visit, we had the pasta with boar, which had berry's added for an added a unique texture to the sauce. The organic fed pork chop with gorganzola had just the right amount of gorganzola to add flavor, but not overpower the meat. My wife usually doesn't like gorganzola, but loved this dish. This is now one of our favorites among a lot of great Italian restaurants in SF.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mission Italian RestaurantSaturday night, the food was amazing and the service was outstanding. We had an early seating and suspect that as the restaurant fills to capacity, it could be quite loud. We started with two refreshing cocktails from the bar (a Perfetto and Basil Drop) with our appetizers. We are suckers for polenta and Specchio's did not disappoint. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - delicious. The Burrata was incredible - their fresh Mozzarella is not to be missed! For entrees, my husband had smoked salmon Tagliolini and I had the walnut pesto. My husband used the focaccia to wipe his bowl clean. And I haven't had pesto that tasted this fresh since we were in Italy. This is our new favorite Italian restaurant in the City.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMMany visits, always greatI've eaten here many times and while I've had several dishes (beef carpaccio is a must), the gorgonzola smothered pork chop is amazing. My husband or I always gets it, the other gets something different so we can share. Gino is a wonderful chef, all servers have been lovely. Very unique decor! addition of full bar is a definite plus5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicioso!Delicious, authentic Italian food and service with a smile. We found it through a Groupon and almost missed it from the street. It was well worth it! We loved the grilled veggies, mushroom pizza, walnut pesto, ricotta gnocchi and wild boar bolognese...with our party of 5 that had appetizers, entrees and dessert- every single plate was amazing! Thank you David and Gino for a wonderful experience, we will definitely be back!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMService, food and wine wereService, food and wine were very good. Decor is kind of strange, and not very romantic for a date night, but we had a great time. Prices are reasonable, so this would be a great spot for dinner with a small group of friends.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMoverall very good experience.overall very good experience. food was great and a good wine selection.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMyummy yum yumfresh menu...excellent service...lightning fast from kitchen to table....vegetables-prepared and cooked perfecto...pastas...to die for....poultry...dont miss it!!!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBest mussels I've ever had.Best mussels I've ever had. The wine list was interesting and we tried some nice italian reds. My husband had the pork chop which was cooked to perfection. I had home-made rigatoni with saffron, zuchinni and speck. Yum! Our waiter was great!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGnocchi was light and tasty.Gnocchi was light and tasty. Several vegetarian options. Pork chop entree was a bit on the salty side. Cannoli dessert was good, not amazing.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecchio was a last minuteSpecchio was a last minute choice for a birthday dinner for a friend. She and I had a fantastic time. The outside of the restaurant leaves you guessing what might be inside, but it is well worth it to wander in. We had a fairly attentive waiter who really knew the food and was able to make good recommendations (like the Gnocchi--to die for!!!). The restaurant wasn't very busy when we were there (early on a tuesday night), but the atmosphere was still lively (but not so much that we couldn't hear each other). The only draw back I found was that it was kept pretty cool in there, so bring a sweater just in case.
great dining experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! :)3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my FAVORITE restaurants.I have eaten at Specchio at least 15 times and each visit has been GREAT. Food, service and the staff are excellent. I recommend this restaurant to locals and tourists all the time.
