Went to Spasso last minute with my
sister and, as usual, it did not disappoint. Wine list is a little pricey, but the house wine is reasonably priced and very good. Food is fresh and is very good every time I visit. Thanks for being a great neighborhood place!"

The ricotta pancakes rival
Maialino's. They are so amazing that I've come back twice already specifically just for those."
Dined on 2/15/2014
Place was crowded on a Friday
night, they tried to accommodate us to stay longer, but you can feel that they are waiting for your table. Food was good, fun place."

Delicious appetizers and pasta.
Very innovative preparation. All in our party of four are sophisticated foodies and we enjoyed everything. A real find. A great go to place to sit at bar and have drinks and appetizers as well as dinner. Our server was helpful and funny as well. We enjoyed the entire experience."

Third time here and still enjoy
it. Have never had a bad meal yet. The stracciatella is delicious, and the pasta is always tasty! The bomboloni were really good as well! Hip, cool, lively spot!"

Have been to this restaurant a
couple of times and have loved it every time! Staff is very friendly and food is very good."

Nothing special was the gist of
Adam Platt's review in NY Mag and he's right. It's pretty bad."
Dined on 1/11/2014
Only issue was a bored server and
poor water service. Everything else was top-notch as usual."
Dined on 1/3/2014
Even if a meal is excellent, when
your chair is continually kicked throughout an evening it takes away from the great service and ambiance. I sat with my friend near the bar next to other two-tops and my chair was kicked a good 3 dozen times. Fix your tables, Spasso. It's called seating design. Other NYC restaurants with less space seem to be able to handle this concept."

My friend and I came to Spasso for
dinner on Saturday night. The food was delicious and the hostess was lovely. However - and this is a big however - the service once we were seated was terrible. We actually had to stop someone to ask to have our water glasses filled and stop somebody else in order to order a glass of wine. When our waitress finally came over, she did not even introduce herself, she just asked if we were ready to order. We both ordered pasta entrees and nobody came over to offer us fresh pepper or grated cheese. Lastly, we were not offered coffee or dessert. The waitress simply brought us the check. The experience was cold and impersonal. What a shame."

Very festive scene. Highlights
were the brussels sprouts and pasta dishes. A bit too expensive and extremely noisy."
Dined on 11/15/2013
Small but hearty, tasty portions.
Service was superb. Staff is friendly, very helpful. Bustling area with much foot traffic passing outdoor diners and window. Good spot!"

Wasn't sure I'd be back after my
last experience but I returned and fell in love all over again. Food was flawless, service impeccable (Black female server with an accent)--everything."
Dined on 10/16/2013
while the food was good and
variety of selections was good; wine service was off. We ordered a white that was not chilled and glasses were not filled when they were empty. Could have been better on that front. Will give it another try."

I worked as a bartender and server
for 7 years, but that doesn't excuse making the guests feel rushed, even if 2/3 (myself excepted) were obviously tourists. If there's going to be a team-style service, the servers must communicate with one another so that we're not asked three or four times whether or not we're ready to order. Also, the server was obviously uninformed as to the distinctions between certain items and sauces. Our main server was very nice but was busy doing sidework when she should have been a little more visible so that we could get her attention when we needed it. The worst thing that happened was that the restaurant was out of two items we intended to order, which we were informed of only after we ordered them."

Actually i came here with my
another friend and we liked the foods but the portions were REALLY SMALL!! Its not enough for one person. It's really strange. We was shocked. I won't advice anyone this restaurant"

I visited Spasso on Aug 9th 2013 ,
it was Restaurant week in NYC, great time to try a new place, they offer a 3 course pre-set menu to choose from . I had the veal in a sauce, it was fair . My husband's had Bolognese, usually a favorite of his and very good at other NYC Italian places.. This dish tasted like out of a can ... Salad was dry and soup was just ok. First time I visited Spasso was just for drinks (good bartenders) and the ambience was so attractive that we decided to go back & try the food, but we were both disappointed . . Oh and the worst was the waiter rushing us all night, food was service right away, like it was PRE MADE !!! ):"

Went here for Restaurant Week
dinner. The chilled tomato soup with watermelon was refreshing. The hake entree was tasteless, and the accompanying crispy potatoes were the better part of the dish. The panna cotta dessert was excellent, although the berries were a bit too sour. Service was terribly slow and unapologetic. The place was cramped, with tables too close to one another, and the music was loud."

Once again we had a fabulous
dinner at Spasso. Great selection of food choices, we had the mussels, a clam pasta and a fish.. Service is great. A real gem for a fun and casual night out. Good value for what you get! Can't wait to go back."

Like many prime West Village
haunts, Spasso is a romantic and small spot. The ambiance and service was good -- we sat outside and enjoyed the experience. The menu had an interesting selection of meats and pasta dishes. The food was good, but none of us were overly impressed, and do not feel they were as tasty as some of the other competition. All in all, the restaurant was fine -- but I would sooner prefer places like Po or Palma to get tastier dishes within the same intimate Village feel."
Dined on 7/27/2013
A/C not working and music so loud
the waiter could not hear us trump the good food."

I love Spasso in all aspects:
food, service, ambience. Love the homemade ricotta, roast chicken, kale salad, pastas. Everything I've tried here has been delicious. Service is excellent, too. Whenever I have visitors, I take them here because it's a charming, lovely spot where guests can relax and have an enjoyable meal."
Dined on 6/22/2013
The outdoor space has been
decorated nicely under scaffolding, service was attentive and the food yummy."
Dined on 6/21/2013
lovely little west village spot,
with delightful cocktails and really quite excellent pastas and secondi. would absolutely return again"
Dined on 6/19/2013
Entrees were surprisingly spicy
(i.e. red pepper flakes added to everything, which was unnecessary). Restaurant also forgot the one side dish that we ordered with our entrees, which turned out to be the best plate of the whole dinner - potatoes."

Exec Chef Ed Carew spins a web
complex worth getting ensnared in. We had the mussells, the seared scallops, and the spaghettini with ramps. We wanted to return the following evening and order the same meal. But we didn't want to stop savoring, even for a second, to relive an unforgettable experience. Thankfully Spasso is in the neighborhood and can be returned to over and over. Bravo Spasso!!"

I went for dinner with two friends
who had never been there and we greatly enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, and also the service. Everything was very delicious and we liked that the menu isn't the standard one but offers new things to try out every time I go there. Definitely a recommendable experience."
Dined on 6/8/2013
The service at Spasso was
top-notch, and our main courses were excellent -- the buccatini pasta and the scallops were solidly prepared. But what truly stood out were the appetizers. Goat croquettes were surprisingly tender and very meaty, and the fried crust was heavenly. And the homemade stracciatella was mind-blowingly delicious -- it stood on its own without help from the crostini with which it was served. Will definitely return."

This was our first time visiting
this restaurant. My boyfriend and I made 9 pm reservations and told to wait at the bar. We weren't seated until 10 after we questioned the hostess who had "forgotten" about us. Concequently our table was right in the walkway. The food was mediocre-salty, overflavored, and well overpriced. Also, we kept having to ask for water refills because no one would ever come by. At the beginning of the night I informed the hostess AND waiter of our Blackboard Eats discount for free appetizers yet it wasn't taken off. When we sent the check black with the code, the waiter never came back. 20 later I gave the bill to another hostess and walked out. After 3+ hours of waiting, we just wanted out. Never coming back!"

We live around the corner and
would make Spasso our go-to place if were easier to get a table on short -notice. When we do manage to get in, we find fresh ingredients, imaginatively combined and well cooked. Seasonally focused and assertively seasoned, the appetizers and salads are especially appealing. My current favorite is a salad of kale, radicchio and parmesan with an anchovy dressing which has a fabulous combination of crunch, smoothness, and salt. Pastas offer unusual choices (ramps and sea urchin) and are always perfectly cooked. Excellent fish. Spasso is also great for lunch and brunch. Great eggs and panini, excellent salads. Really, a good choice at any time of day"

Loved the food, enjoyed the
ambience, but from the moment we sat down it was rush, rush, rush. We ordered drinks, and told waitress we wanted to sit for a moment to have our drinks before ordering. She came over 3-4 times to ask for our order, every 2 minutes. Took my drink away before I was finished, gave us our check while still drinking. I think it might be restaurant policy, not the waitstaff's fault but would make me unlikely to come back. There were tables free, by the way - no one was waiting for our table."
Dined on 5/14/2013
Always a favorite for the pasta
and straciatella! With the recent change in chef, we were worried that there would be a change in quality. While some of our standard favorites were gone, they were replaced with wonderful new dishes."
Dined on 5/3/2013
Small and unusual menu. Had
difficulty finding things we liked. Portions were small. Diet coke was $4.00!"
Dined on 4/26/2013
We were there very early (before
theatre) so It was veryquiet. I do not know how it would be at the height of the dinner hour. Everyone was extremely polite and professional. The Bacala Monticato was excellent as was the Fregola with lamb ragu. My dining partner said her polenta was excellent as were hersalad and roasted asparagus. I will return the next time I am in the neighborhood."
Dined on 4/16/2013
Everything from the drinks, salad,
entrees and dessert were amazing!"
Dined on 4/11/2013
Spasso is a gem! The food and
service are wonderful the wine list is delectable. The space itself is welcoming, friendly, and even with the buzz of energetic diners proves to be a perfect place for a great conversation. In nice weather, the outdoor patio is a great place to eat and feel the energy of the neighborhood. Definitely worth checking out!"
Dined on 4/9/2013
Too expensive for what it was.
Seriously declined from what it used to be."
Dined on 4/6/2013
We had a disappointing dinner. We
ordered the pork chops and they were overcooked. We also ordered the chocolate budino and it was grainy. If the food was prepared with a little more care, this restaurant could be very good."
Dined on 4/5/2013
Food delicious, but for those of
lusty appetitie, portions are a bit petite."
Dined on 4/4/2013
Fantastic spot in the village -
great food from Chef Ed, boisterous and fun at the bar. 'Nuff said."
