Spasso Cucina Italiana reviews from OpenTable diners
  • Disappointed

We read reviews & thought we would give this place a try. The 'little' glitch that someone mentioned regarding parking is a BIG PIA. We had to park blocks away. While waiting for my husband at our table as he parked the car no one acknowledged me. Then My husband got there & we waited another 5+minutes & asked to order a drink but the young man could not take our drink order. He said the wait person would be right with us. So another 7-8 minutes (now I've been sitting around 15+ minutes)the waitress comes to the table and tells us about specials - we want to order a cocktail, please!! They weren't full but busy. We eventually ordered our food & found it to be good, not great. My Osso Buco was quite fatty and my husbands pasta was boring.

  • I chose Spasso for a book

I chose Spasso for a book club meeting even though I'd never been there before. I was a little nervous--a couple of our members are vocal foodies. Well, I had nothing to worry about. The food was wonderful and the service impeccable. I'll definitely be back! The only *tiny* issue was with parking, but that comes with the territory when you're that close to the beach.

We've been meaning to try Spasso for months now and I'm so glad we finally did. It will definitely make it into our regular restaurant rotation. Terrific service and wonderful authentic Italian food! We started with the minestrone soup and shrimp salad both were made fresh and delightful. I had the lemon chicken piccata and my husband had the Sirlon lasagne both were fantastic. We finished the meal off with the Nutella calzone dessert. We can't wait to go back and try their pizza and brunch!

  • You wouldn't expect a restaurant

You wouldn't expect a restaurant of this caliber sitting on a side street by the beach and from the outside it doesn't look like much, but it is an outstanding restaurant and the food is exceptional. The lasagna noodles are fresh made and light as a feather, you don't even realize there are noodles in the lasagna, the pizza's are thin crust European style with creative toppings, these are not pizzaria style pizza's. The decor is very simplistic, but in its way elegant. The service is friendly, attentive without being over bearing. The corkage fee is a very reasonable $13. A place that definitely is recommended and an establishment to return to.

When we drove up, we were not overly impressed with this place, as the outside needs some work. But, once we got inside, we were pleased with the cozy atmosphere and the overall service we received. Food was very good and the waiters were extremely attentive. Overall, I thought this was a very nice dining experience.

cozy and comfortable. doesn't try to be anything other than a great place to meet and eat. we were on an overnight trip thru Ventura and rely on Open Table comments to find a restaurant and this didn't dissappoint. We ordered carbonara and pork chops and split the plates with each other - delish!

Great local restaurant in south Ventura steps from the beach and our hotel. Enjoyed an excellent anniversary dinner with friends. Our waitress was completely attentive and made a perfect wine recommendation after some discussion. Would definitely go again and recommend to friends. Atmosphere is pleasant, welcoming, not elegant.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

Food was good, but a little pricy for the serving size, especially since salad or soup was an add on. Although the sauces were excellent, we were surprised that the pasta wasn't homemade. Restaurant wasn't busy, but the noise level from staff talking to each other in the bar, made it hard to hear the conversation at our own table of 7. The bruscetta (sp) was excellent as were the 3 desserts we ordered.

What an amazing time we had at Spasso Cucina Italiana! Our party of 8 was seated immediately on a Saturday night. The food was absolutely divine from the appetizers to the deserts. We ordered many different entres & everyone tasted everyone else's & it was all so tasty, with all fresh ingredients, we'd have a really hard time picking a favorite. Our compliments to the chef! And as far as service, you will find none better! The Maitre d', the servers & the buspersons were delightfully attentive without being obtrusive. Our entres were served exactly as they should be, with everyone at the table served at the same time, & with virtually no wait time between courses. We're in the restaurant business, you can take out word for it "GREAT"

Very good Italian food in a nice beach atmosphere. Parking is a problem on a nice evening since it's so close to the beach, and they have no parking lot. You may find street parking and, if so, it's worth a short walk to this place where the pastas are very good, and the soups well prepared. The food can be rich, so order accordingly.

This place, just around the corner from my hotel in Ventura, was recommended by someone at work. What a fantastic find! I went with three of my colleagues and we all loved it. The place is really cute. The service was really good. And, the food was terrific. I had the polenta with Italian sausage. Great! Two of my colleagues had the salmon (which I'm always reticent to order). They both said it was the best salmon they'd had IN THEIR LIFE!! I know what I'm ordering next time. We had nice wines with dinner and a couple of desserts afterwards. They were also mentionables. Budin and tiramisu. You can't go Italian and not have tiramisu. Very, very nice. The owner, from Rome, came out to check on us. That's always a nice treat

Spasso never disappoints! This is a terrific restaurant! Don't expect a spaghetti and meatball place so typical of an "Italian" restaurant in the U.S. Do expect to find a restaurant where "old world" attention to cuisine and service are a passion for the owner,Francesco, and the Spasso staff. We visit Spasso frequently and are spoiled when it comes to its food and wine but being spoiled, in this case, is a good thing.
