A word from Sparks Steak House
Sparks Steak House was opened in 1966 by Michael and Pasquale Cetta, hence the logo 'Cetta Brothers Steak Masters'. The restaurant is still a family owned and operated business and is located in midtown Manhattan, a five minute walk from Grand Central Station and The United Nations.

The restaurant is well known for excellent steaks, seafood, fresh vegetables and satisfying salads. And of course, the huge wine list.

    I did some research before trying the Sparks Steakhouse and I was under the impression that it was a very high end / high quality restaurant in NYC. It was EXTREMELY DISAPOINTING !!! The food was average (very overpriced) and the ambience was that of a cafeteria !

    We went to Sparks restaurant expecting a classy restaurant with great food,what we experienced was quite the opposite. Steak was ok but appetizers and side dishes weren't good.The atmosphere was like a cafeteria. The service was good i must say. With so many good steakhouses around I wouldn't recommend Sparks. { tourist trap}

    Got to our table, great location, but chair was broke. Waiter seemed inconvenienced when I asked for a new chair. One waiter took our bottle order, them another came to take it. Then he came back to say they no longer carry that wine. Final waiter was friendly and helpful. Decor is interesting, but nothing special. We got dressed up, while others ate on a Friday night in jeans and untucked shirts. Salad, sides, wine, and dessert were good/average, but steaks were phenomenal. Altogether though, not worth the >$330 bill for two.

    I was somewhat disappointed by my recent visit to Sparks. I was entertaining a colleague from our London office and he wanted to experience one of New York's iconic steakhouses. We each ordered a shrimp cocktail appetizer, followed by a sirloin for me, filet mignon for my colleague, and sides of sautéed spinach and home fries. The shrimp cocktail consisted of only four medium sized shrimp for $20. There should have been five, or they should have been larger. We hadn't even finished the appetizers when the main course arrived, and it was wrong. They brought two sirloins, instead of the filet. The waiter took one of them back, saying "I think I can get a filet" and left the rest of the food on the table to get cold while we waited for the correct order. Once the filet arrived, it was way undercooked and totally flavorless. The sirloin was cooked to order, but very over salted as were the home fries. The sautéed spinach tasted like it was sautéed in warm water; no hint of garlic, olive oil, or other seasoning..very bland. I hope this was just an off night, because if not I'll say that there are much better steakhouses in NYC these days.

    A second visit in a month and the food was just as good. Steaks are excellent. Cesar salad dressing is the best. But for those who don't eat steak there is a wide variety of fish. Last time I had the snapper and was prepared so well I almost got it again but I tried the halibut this time and it was wonderful filleted at the table. Great waiters. Great service Would never doubt going again. Expensive but we have paid the same at other steak houses in the city and they were nowhere near the standard of sparks. Ambiance is wonderful. Quiet on the weekends. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend.

    Visiting New York City was an old dream, which recently came true. Reserving a table in a steak house was part of this dream, and I must say that choosing Sparks was really a good idea. The service is perfect, the food is excellent and the wine list is just incredible. I would recommend this address to everyone. A totally enthusiastic French guest.

    Took our family 6 adults 2 children to celebrate birthdays and an a Anniversery started with good sized drinks an a bottle of Duckhorn Cabernet. To start we had oysters. The largest oysters I have ever seen. We had to cut one in half to eat it. Some of us had the prime sirloin cooked medium rare ,just perfect and tender. Others had the Sea Bass,tender and sweet.We also enjoyed the excellent service !A great evening .

    Chaos upon arrival. Maitre d had a pad with no acknowledgement of who had reservations. Service started out good but dropped off to where we were searching for our waiter. Food OK. My steak was tough. More like a banquet hall than a restaurant. Sparks is living off its past reputation. What a shame.

    I am a fan of Sparks, it has a "Olde New York" charm and very good food. However, I made the mistake of going on a busy night at around 7pm. I usually go on slower nights at around 9pm. The result: interminable wait to be served, inattentive waiter, watery drinks which appeared to be rushed together, and probably were, check pushed to us before we had a chance to even consider ordering dessert. Fortunately, the food is very good, and the charm is there. So my suggestion is: go to Sparks, but go late, and on "easy" nights.

    I have been to Sparks many times over the years and it has not disappointed. Once again, we went to our favorite steakhouse & once again, the steaks were marvelous! I've been to lots of different steakhouses in NYC but I've not found any steak any better. We had our family with us (10 of us which included 4 grandkids ) and they also loved it. The only thing was that our waiter was not very friendly. I've always gotten great service there with very friendly waiters so I was hoping we would get one that would interact with the kids and make them feel really welcomed in a nice restaurant like that but it didn't happen. Except to wait on us, it was as if we were not there. But, I will be back because I can't pass up the wonderful steaks when I am in NYC!

    Superb style and ambiance. 1st class international wine list, wonderful St-Emilion choices. Large portions, so do not fill up beforehand! The Shrimp Cocktail starter had 4 of the largest 'shrimps' ever grown, perfect choice. The Filet Mignon portion is enough for 2 men, you would not need to eat meat for several days afterwards, and I love meat, am not skinny and could not finish the portion. But perfectly cooked Medium Rare. The spinach side dish is enough for 2 or 3 people as is the broccoli ( 4 large sprigs ). So New York portion sizes and not French nouvelle cuisine sizes! Prices are up there with the Savoy Grill in London, so don't go if you have a limited budget. Fantastic !

    We celebrated my birthday while out of town in New York City. We selected this restaurant based on walking distance from our hotel. We were not disappointed. My husband ordered a filet and I had the steak medallions. Steaks were prepared perfectly and were of good flavor. Proportions were huge, as were the side dishes. Waiter was professional and personable. Was surprised by the wine list. While not a big wine drinker, the menu was significant. Prices were extensive -- was surprised by the cost for some of the wines ($2,000 for a bottle)! Little to pricey for my tastes but for wine lovers, what a variety.
