A word from Sparks Steak House
Sparks Steak House was opened in 1966 by Michael and Pasquale Cetta, hence the logo 'Cetta Brothers Steak Masters'. The restaurant is still a family owned and operated business and is located in midtown Manhattan, a five minute walk from Grand Central Station and The United Nations.

The restaurant is well known for excellent steaks, seafood, fresh vegetables and satisfying salads. And of course, the huge wine list.Continued

  • "Had a wonderful evening dining at Sparks. Food, service and wine list outstanding. Would recommend this restaurant highly. Full of old world charm. Enjoy........we sure did."

  • "Our waiter was excellent - very attentive and always around but not hovering over the table. We never waited for refills and he provided good recommendations given this was our first time at the restaurant and wanted to share many dishes."

  • "This is a great place for a group or family although mostly business men. The largest benefit is the extensive wine list which is very reasonably priced."

  • "Sparks is absolutely the best steak house in Manhattan, in my humble opinion. The service is impeccable, yet warm and friendly. The menu is everything you could want from a legendary steak house, without any of the nonsense you find at other places. Any time anyone asks me for a steak house recommendation in NYC, I send them to Sparks, and every time, without fail, I will get a phone call thanking me for recommending Sparks and telling me how great it was. Sparks is by far the classiest steak house I have ever been to, but remains unassuming and welcoming somehow. Gotta love that."

  • "I have been coming here for over 20 years and the sirloin to me remains the best in the city.it stiil is a n.y.c. icon."

  • "My wife and I recently relocated here from Chicago's lakefront. We have been searching for new favorite restaurants. Based on our first visit to Sparks, we have probably found our new favorite steak house!"
    Dined on 7/1/2014
  • "There are in Sparks the absolute best steaks in the world! Last time we visited Sparks was some 20 years ago: have tried so many restaurants around the world, and still Sparks is the best in steaks."
    Dined on 6/30/2014
  • "Sparks provides old world service at a level that once was a staple of good restaurants. The food is solid and the wait staff is well informed. Sparks does many things exceptionally well. You can find great steaks all over NYC. You can find good service. Decent wine lists aren't a rarity. But try finding all of those elements in one spot and you realize that it isn't easy at all."

  • "Explain to me how a steak house does not serve a Porterhouse, Ribeye, Prime Rib or New York Strip? And the Filet that they do have is tough.... The wine list a what to expect of a great steakhouse, but if you want steak go somewhere else...."

  • "Food had amazing flavours but portions just too large. At least half was thrown away."

  • "The fillet mignon is like no other in the world !!!"

  • "I had been to Sparks before. I knew what to expect. The sirloin was very good as were the sides. Ceasar salad starter was also good. As expected, the service was a bit surley, almost to the point of we were an imposition on the waiter. He seemed to want to ..move us along... and we told him to go away twice before we ordered. We had wine and drinks from the bar served first and were discussing business when the waiter again arrived and sort of said... you'll order now. We did not indicate we were ready to order, he indicated he was ready to take our order. Overall, I would not go back, I will seek another Steakhouse experience. You can get a good steak in many places in NY, Too bad for Sparks. Great potential but...."

  • "Very attentive wait staff, great steaks, excellent wine selection very accommodating. I've been to other steakhouses in NYC, this is my favorite."
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "Sparks still serves the best steak in the city with a great 'crust' on even a rare slice. The wine list has gone from the most reasonable in town to the most items above $300 in town. Service seems friendlier but still don't know what the three hosts do but talk to each other. Sparks is still a classic and a must visit every year or so."

  • "I had the signature prime cut which was outstanding and cooked to perfection. My wife had the filet which was a large cut of meat. The filet came out less than medium-rare closer to raw. A waiter other than the one who was serving us agreed with our assessment and quickly took the steak back to be cooked further. The steak was in two pieces and the bigger piece of the filet was still undercooked for wanting a medium temperature. The waiter brought some creamed spinach which we did not ask for or like. When we pointed out the steak was still undercooked he had nothing but excuses. We did get a dessert at no charge which was good. With the reputation they have they should know how to cook a big cut of meat."

  • "We have regularly visited this wonderful steak house on our trips to New York City. Best steaks anywhere we have eaten, including Peter Lugar. The only disappointment is that on our reservation, I indicated that my wife and I were celebrating our 25th anniversary, but we did not even receive a verbal congratulations, let alone a token piece of cake. I guess they knew that I could not eat sweets and were doing me a favour."

  • "This is a special place and do justice to the food & wine.."

  • "Best filet I've ever had and I am a steak fanatic from Oklahoma. Perfect atmosphere for my tastes. The ride from Sparks to our hotel, after we ate, with "Mike the Russian" was a great way to top off the experience."

  • "You go to one best steakhouses in the country (supposedly), order a steak medium. It comes out well done. Return it, and it cones back raw. Third time OK, but everyone else was finished. No comps. No apology...just attitude. Never going back!"

  • "Sparks has a certain feel and look every time I have dinner there."

  • "We were disappointed in the food served at Sparkys. Since it is a steakhouse my husband and I ordered steak, the filet mignon. It was tough and not the quality one would have expected. The ambiance was nice and the service was excellent. However, we do not plan to return"

  • "You can't good wrong with Sparks. Food and service are always great. And they treat you like valued customer. You are not rushed to order, eat and leave. Great for business, friend or family get together."

  • "excellent lamb chops and steak, great wine list. sides are also good, but a bit expensive. Waiters are generally friendly, knowledgeable about the wines. Can be quite noisy when the restaurant is full. "

  • "We loved the welcome at the door, the bar, service and food. Creamed spinach the best ever. Steaks huge and tender. Overall great experience. "

  • "Typical Manhattan establishment that focuses more on pushing sides, drinks and dessert than steak. I ordered the Prime Sirloin (the "house specialty). It was cooked well but tasted bland. My friend ordered the filet. The filet was about twice the thickness of an average filet. My friend asked for "medium," but what he received was a filet with a red, cool center. I imagine it is pretty difficult to cook a steak that thick to the proper temperature. I was warned by a friend that despite making a reservation and showing up on time, Sparks is known to make their customers wait to be seated. I found this to be true. We had a party of 3 and it was a Thursday night. There were plenty of open tables but we still had to wait 20 minutes."
    Dined on 5/29/2014
  • "You can get big lobsters, fish, veal chop and more. With all that the best thing is the sirloin. Get a salad or a shrimp cocktail to start. The steak medium and a couple of sides and you'll have one of the best steakhouse experiences available in NYC. "

  • "My second time and if possible it was even better. Delicious steak...one of the best I've ever had. Tried the wife's fish...absolutely wonderful. Extensive wine list with many wonderful selections. Pricey cocktails. Great service from attentive but not hovering staff"

  • "Good restaurant, but the food is not as good as its peers such as Wolfgang's, Peter Lueger's, Del Frisco's, etc. The steak was good but not great. Given the price, this is worth going to once."

  • "We were in NY for a meeting, which happened to coincide with our 28th anniversary. We arrived at the restaurant early but were promptly seated and served. Service was great, food even better! "

  • "Great service and the steak was perfect. Do it again and again."

  • "I think a diner should have an optional size of a good steak. I ordered a filet mignon and it was a 14oz. monster. A 6 oz portion would have been great, expecially considering the five side dishes we ha. Unfortunately the 14 oz giant was my only choice. Our waiter was all business and no smiles."

  • "my date is watching his cholesterol so we both had fish..he said his sole was excellent…my red snapper was o.k.,but the price was high .next time i will go back to the steak… My date and I both had fish because of his cholesterol…but my red snapper was mediocre, especially for the price. next time,I will go back to the steak…this is not a place to eat fish……except for the raw clams or baked clams….. "

  • "Steak is always great here. Its pricey but it it what it is a NY gem"
    Dined on 5/14/2014
  • "Don't believe the recommendations, the staff are surly, the food is over-priced and the medium sirloin was raw on the inside. We booked online after reading the reviews and were very disapppointed. You will find much better places to eat in New York just by walking around and checking the menus for yourself. "

  • "Very good wine list that is, relatively speaking for the restaurant type and location, very reasonable."

  • "Sparks was not as good as it used to be. Steaks were very salty and not as tender as I recall."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "It was a nice steakhouse, but nothing special. Go to Strip House if you are looking for a truly special steakhouse experience. "
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "The service was great. It was relatively quiet but we went to dinner early. The filet mignon was very good but the strip was only average. The temperature of the steaks were incorrect. Both were so very under cooked even after sending one back. VOverall our biggest complaint was that both steaks were way over salted. Of course we enjoy salt on our steaks but this was so bad we couldn't finish them. With all the great steak houses in NYC I would pass on this one "
