A word from Sparks Steak House
Sparks Steak House was opened in 1966 by Michael and Pasquale Cetta, hence the logo 'Cetta Brothers Steak Masters'. The restaurant is still a family owned and operated business and is located in midtown Manhattan, a five minute walk from Grand Central Station and The United Nations.

The restaurant is well known for excellent steaks, seafood, fresh vegetables and satisfying salads. And of course, the huge wine list.Continued

  • "This is my boyfriend's favorite restaurant in New York. He would go once a week if it were affordable. When his 30th birthday rolled around, I knew this was just the place to take him. I'm not a meat-eater really; I usually stick to chicken or seafood. For his birthday he requested I try the steak formage... It was to die for! I don't enjoy steak, but this was better than any chicken dish I would have ordered. Now I understand what the fuss is all about. It is a must-go for any true New Yorker or consistent visitor. Obviously this is not inexpensive, but worth it every now and again, which makes it extra special. Enjoy!"

  • "A group of us, all retired naval aviators, make a pilgrimage to Sparks twice or more a year to tell sea stories and catch up on each others lives. The food and service are always excellent, as is the wine. Since we spent many years around aircraft engines which took a toll on our hearing, we prefer a corner table near the back, which we weren't given this time even though I asked for it on the reservation form online. Just make sure your pockets are stuffed with money so you look like you were just given a political payoff to pay the bill. Well recommended."

  • "Having returned to show the spouse what a good steak house is and visiting on leisure versus business, this visit was a delight. The steaks are still superb and the wine list is extensive (and expensive, but after all this is New York). The service is second to none and the staff treats you as though you are the only diner in the city. Wonderful experience all around. I had the sirloin, she had the filet. The portions are huge, but you do not go here to diet. It is a treat, so you should enjoy it. You can always eat again a couple of months from now. Seriously, great place, great food and great service."

  • "We were there early (pre-theatre dinner). The place was empty ... service was slow, and food was not prepared as requested. ... either undercooked or overcooked. Very pricey and definitely not worth it. I hate to say it, but a chain steakhouse aka "Ruths Chris" was way better. "

  • "The food was great, but the service was what really impressed me. My fiance and I were standing outside waiting for the rest of our party to arrive when the maître d' came out and invited us in, welcoming us to the bar while we waiting for our party. It was a simple gesture, but it stood out. Then, when everyone had arrived, he carried all of the ladies' drinks to the table for them. It was my first time dining at Sparks and that was a great first impression."

  • "I really can't believe the negative reviews here. The waiter was very attentive to all our needs. Recommended lamb chops as appetizer. Biggest and best chops ever!!! He recommended my wife and son split a filet mignon and that I only needed a 3.5 lb lobster. Food really was out of this world. Great service!! Wine list was insane!! $274 for 2.5 people. Didn't think it was expensive. Left a $50 tip. Felt right for good advice on sharing and lobster size. Gave us free soda refills without being asked and kept our table very clean. Really enjoyed our time here. Never felt rushed."

  • "Felt like an old mens club (are women allowed to work there?) and just add cigars to that wine list and bar menu and I think it would work. Especially as most men's club don't offer high end dining. Overall, it is good but far from great. I would not go out of my way to go here but would consider it if someone else (male co-workers???) made the reservations and felt strongly about going here."

  • "my second visit to sparks! this time, the lights were on full tilt and there wasn't much ambiance. the steak was wonderful...but the rest? the creamed spinach was soupy and gray! I asked for some anchovies on my $15.00 Caesar salad and you folks had to charge me an additional $3 for the fish. really? 50cents worth of lettuce and 10cents worth of dressing and $15 isn't enough?...and our waiter couldn't have been less interested. really? it was reflected in the gratuity. I can't remember giving only 15percent...but that night, our waiter got that. if you come for steak...great place. but the rest???????????????????????????????"

Did not check on table often enough to respond to empty drinks or when we were finished with the meal and wanted the check. Sent one steak back for being over cooked, vegetables lacked flavor and one was served cold. Did handle a birthday request well. Probably will look for a different location."

  • "This is an old line, New York steakhouse with a club like mentality. It's like going to that older, wood paneled hunt club or golf club restaurant. The food is good but not spectacular. The service is attentive but in a New York impatient way. You always have a feeling that the waiters are doing you a bit of a favor and they look at you as more of a bother than a customer. On the positive side is that everything was done well with a certain polished efficiency. There were no surprises, which is a good thing and you pretty much got what you would expect from this establishment restaurant."

  • "Consistently THE best steakhouse in NYC, hands down. Great service, fully attentive, accommodated our large groups needs willingly. Simply awesome 16oz filet, must try, also go for the rack of lamb, never seen portions that large - amazing! Wine is simply superb, if you can't find what you want here, then your being a difficult fool - deepest list around, and affordable value. Again, great place, consistent experience."

  • "steak was large and cooked perfectly. It was a little bit grizzly in spots. creamed spinach was bitter...yes, bitter. I do not know what made it so bitter but it was the worst creamed spinach I have ever had at a reputable steak house. The walnut pecan pie was very disappointing....it tasted like cardboard. the pie was a bad commercial rendition of what a pecan pie should be....definitely the worst pecan pie I ever ordered."

  • "Been going here since the 90's. Took my wife and niece (their first time) last Saturday. Everything was outstanding. Great server (Mili) and food was perfect. We shared two salads (Caesar and spinach) and they were very fresh and Caesar was a big hit. Steaks cooked to perfection. Only problem was we couldn't finish but my niece was happy to oblige and take the remainder home. Sparks' wine list is ridiculous. Tremendous selection and at a price point slightly less than many of their competitors. Half bottle selection is best I have seen as well. Highly recommend Sparks!"

  • "this was my first time at Sparks as it is rated one of the top 12 steak houses in NYC....we were a party of 4 and 2 NY steak orders for medium were presented almost black-blue.....sent back 2 times...and in the end was still not medium......extremely disappointed as we were looking for a pleasurable steak meal experience...didn't happen..."

  • "Decor/ambience very poor and has almost a "wild west" theme to it and has a rather low end feel. We dined on a Monday night when the restaurant was not busy, but were still made to feel like they were herding us through as quickly as possible without attention to warm customer service - you definitely feel like a number at this place. Most of the patrons there seemed to be a bit older and not looking for innovation, so this may be the norm there. In any event, was probably the least interesting steak house I have been to - and with entrees starting at $40, I would expect much more. Will not be back."

  • "Overall I enjoyed my dinner here. The steaks (sirloin & filet) and lobster were good. The service was the standard steak house style, somewhere between diner and french fine dining. If I was trying to be really picky, I would say that the sides were just so-so. I don't know if I would go back just because there are so many great restaurants in the city. At the same time, I would never discourage anyone else from going. I think this would place would be a solid choice for a family dinner, business dinner or a date."

  • "My husband and I have eaten at many of the big-name New York City steakhouses, so I don't say the following lightly: Sparks Steakhouse is the best. The wine list is superb, the service excellent, and the steaks--! Fantastic. Tender. Delicious. Yes, pricey, but not by NYC steakhouse standards, and you get more-than-generous portions of the most flavorful beef ever. We had sides of asparagus and mushroom caps which were also delectable, and my dessert was the perfect ending. I can't wiat to go back. This is our go-to steakhouse form now on."

  • "I read a lot about various steakhouses, and chose Sparks due to its fame, but also frankly, it was one of few available last minute on Valentines Day. We were all pleasantly surprised. I liked the staff, and atmosphere better then Peter Lugars in Brooklyn. The steak was amazing, even though they dont have many steak choices. (Knew this from other reviews). The baked clams were terrific, as was the scampi. Pricing fair, and they gave us a delicious complimentary desert. Child friendly too!"

We thoroughly enjoyed our late night dinner here and we highly recommend it. Our reservations were at 10:30 because we had gone to a Broadway play and the service was amazing even though we we're the very last people to leave that night. They we're very nice. We will definitely go back to this restaurant."

  • "2 of us ordered a salad and one 4lb lobster.The salad came out divided on two plates so when the lobster came out split on two plates we didn't question it. When the bill came, it showed one shared salad and 2 4lb lobsters.Should we have realized it was 2 4lb lobsters and not 1 split yes maybe but, I knew what I ordered and others heard me say share so why would I question it. We also ordered sides which never arrived but were on the bill. Reluctantly they removed the undelivered sides and charged us for two 3lbs lobsters. We have been to Sparks many times and always had a wonderful dinner. It was a Sat night and it was very empty. I hope they just had a bad night instead of feeling the need to rip their customers off by inflating the bill."

  • "When we arrived it was apparently a taping of the wolf of wall street 2 as one whole side of the restaurant was being reserved for young jonah hills. The entrance and coat check was beyond chaotic and when I checked in with the maitre d he not only had no idea about the open table reservation i had made but then made my party wait 45 minutes for a table to open. He told us we could wait at the bar (what was left of it ) but we realized that if we moved away from the front the chances of getting a table were beyond poor. Whats the point of a reservation? Once we were sat the food was fabulous as always but it was beyond even the normal NY level of restaurant loud. Ah to rule the world..."
