A word from Spanish Pavillion
The first Spanish restaurant in New Jersey opened in 1963 by our grandparents, Antonio & Estrella Martinez. The idea was simple: Give the finest traditional Spanish food at a reasonable price, with warm, friendly & efficient service. You may have entered as a customer, but you left as a friend.>As the second & third generations continue the family tradition, we want to maintain the same ideas which were taught to us by our grandparents. We not only welcome you as customers to our restaurant, we welcome you as friends into our home.
Sit back, relax and enjoy some friendly service while your mouth-watering meals are being prepared by some of the same chefs who have been with our family for years.

Your Hosts,
Jerry & Michael Fernández

Diner Reviews
  • "We have dined many times at Spanish Pavillion over the past 15 years and it is always good. The service is attentive and the food is tasty and delicious. The seafood is fresh - mariscadas salsa verde, garlic shrimp and twin lobsters were great. Skirt steak was very flavorful too. We enjoyed the sangria too. Dessert ended the meal on a sweet note with flan, lava chocolate cake and carmel pudding."

  • "My wife and I had dinner here. Overall, the experience was excellent. I've been to many of the Spanish Restaurants in Newark, but never tried the Spanish Pavilion. The food was excellent and our waiter was efficient and personable. I had the paella, which was chock full of seafood. I don't think I finished half of it. My wife had a shrimp dish which she loved. We also started with Calamari with hot peppers. Yum. The waiter was pleasant and efficient. Would definitely return."

  • "We came here with a party for 5, the owner was very accommodating even tho we were an hour late for our reservation. It was overall a very nice experience. It was a family gathering/birthday and everyone really enjoyed the food and drinks. It was a great evening with fantastic food and drink. Thank you again for an amazing experience! Can't wait to come back! Oh and the sangria was amazing!"

  • "I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. Food was well prepared. The Fabada was really good. Pretty close to the PAC Center if you are going to a concert. I definitely would return. "

  • "Will go back again and happily recommend it to friends. The food, value for your dollar and service make it easy to understand why it has remained a favorite for so many for so many years."

  • "Love the food, the great service, the ambience. A family-owned and operated gem. Easy to find. Easy to park (in their lot). A mix of nrighborhood clientele where everyone knows your name, Newark residents, people on their way to or from NJPAC and other Arts and sports venues all there to enjoy great Spanish food."

  • "We met two other couples here for a Saturday night dinner, and as usual, it was great. The service was excellent, as was the meals. Everyone enjoyed their dinners, from Steak, to shrimp to salmon, with different sauces. The portions are large, so I wound up taking half my dinner home for the next night. We started with different appetizers, and enjoyed them all. We keep coming back. They also have their own parking lot next door."

  • "My siblings and I had heard good comments about this restaurant from friends and family, but we had never eaten here. We made a reservation for Easter Sunday, and that proved to be a wise decision. The food was incredible, from the camarones ajillo to the salads and the entrees and desserts. The generous house salad is chock full of baby lettuces and baby spinach and tomatoes, and the house dressing is magnificent. Among us we ate prime rib, stuffed sole, and salmon costa brava. We sampled each dish and pronounced each of them exceptional. This is definitely a restaurant to revisit. I am hoping to come back with a larger group to sample and share tapas."

  • "The steak was wonderful. The dessert was too. The only issue is the paella. The rice is crunchy and hard. I believe it's a baked dish. Unsure if paella should have this consistency since it was the first time I'd tried it. I simply picked and poked through it, eating only the seafood in it."

  • "I went to Spanish Pavilion this past Friday for the all you can eat buffet. Excellent choice. The food never ran low and the service was exceptional! They're doing it again next week, I'll be sitting right there. They've been one of my favorites for years."

  • "The place needs a facelift but the people greeting and serving were fantastic. The food was great! We ordered paella for one and it was more than enough for two. We also ordered some tapas and expected it them to arrive while the paella cooked but all the food came together."

  • "This restaurant has the best service I had ever seen in any restaurant I ever been to. They were constantly cleaning up empty plates. Always kept glass full. And very attentive to your needs. You could ask any waiter or for anything and they would instantly get it for you."

  • "huge portions. We had several tapas and 2 dinners, everything was wonderfully flavored and presented nice. Enjoyed the place, nice neighborhood gem, didn't feel like the other spanish food warehouses in Newark."

  • "Came after not eating here for years. Used to love the place but stopped going after their Kitchen Nightmare. Well, the place looks great, very friendly staff and owner but the food is eh. My Marsala was just okay-more sweet sauce then Marsala wine. One of our guests sent his dinner back as the shellfish wasn't fresh. Hit or miss I guess. Won't be going back. Too bad."

  • "waiters were friendly and did not rush you to order or to move the table. Let you sit with your friends and take your time and not try and hurry you, which was nice. They came around and asked if everything was ok and if they could do anything for you. Been there before and would go back. Also very large portions, only one person finished there food the rest came home with us."

  • "All of the service staff were absolutely very accommodating and attentive. No complaints there. The food was plentiful but not fit for foodies. The bread was cold as if they just took it out of a refrigerator. Not sure if we'll go back. Only 2 minutes from NJ PAC so convenient if you are attending a concert."

  • "We enjoyed everything at this restaurant--the food was outstanding and made any way you would like it. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and they grilled it and put garlic and oil on it for me. Never had one so good and I eat at all the Newark Spanish/Portugese restaurants. Sangria was top notch as was the service. Price was great too. Friends we were with were very impressed and want us to invite them there again."

  • "The food is top notch and authentic, the service is AWESOME and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Try the paella - just do it - there's really no good reason not to!"

  • "The restaurant was empty when I arrived on a Sunday in the evening. The restaurant was quiet and comfortable. I was told the entrees would take 30 minutes to prepare. They offered soup which was hearty but not hot. The entrees arrived on time, but the rice was burnt and stuck to the bottom of the pan and the sausage was a little too dry. The portion size was generous and the shrimp and scallops were moist and tender. Overall, the entrée was good. The dessert was excellent. All items served tasted fresh and made with high quality ingredients."

  • "This is my 2nd time to Spanish Pavilion. Heard about this place when it was featured on Chef Rasmsay's Kitchen Nightmares. Great food. Good Sangria. Service was attentive. They would come around to make sure our glasses are filled. However, I would suggest the following to the next person who tries this restaurant: 1. When they bring out the loaf of bread ask for it to be warmed up. 2. Paella - they say good for 2. It's good for 4 and maybe 5"

  • "as a semi regular customer i was embarrassed. I brought good friends to the resturant after telling them how good it is and was very disappointed. We decided to eat on the patio. The sangria we ordered taste like flavored water, no water was brought to the table, had to plead to get bread. a drink from the bar took forever, the waiters showed no interest in hearing what we wanted, the appetizzers were good, but the main course ordered got screwed up, :two of the orders were not what we order. The only good thing was the dessert. but, more importantly, was the attitude of the waiters. They were not informative and again, showed no interest in getting the order and took their sweet time in geting things and werre not at all attentive."

  • "From the appetizers through the main courses, our senses were delighted with a gaggle of the tastes and smells of this authentic Spanish cuisine. The servers were friendly, informative and attentive to our every need. Have already recommended it to a number of foodie-friends. The ambience was enhanced by the enthusiastic cheering in the bar during the Brazil-Spain soccer game."

  • "Neighborhood place with seasonal outdoor dining. Small unremarkable bar. Ambience only so-so. Really good Spanish/Portugese fare and excellent service."

  • "This restaurant is one of my top picks for a high-end meal for a mid-scale price. The ambiance is cozy, homey, with earth tones and relaxing music. When I went, I came early, before the dinner crowd. The dining room was quiet, and Spanish music was playing in the background. The bartender's skills were on point with my pina colada---smoooooooth! My salad was fresh and crunchy. My filet mignon was tender, tasty, and cooked to order; the vegetables were flavorful and not overcooked. Service was great; I never felt rushed or neglected as the only patron in the dining room. I had a great dining experience, just as I have always had. I will be returning. =)"

  • "Everything about the Spanish Pavilion was great. The food was out of this world delicious, service was the top of the line and even the hostess kept coming over to see how we were doing and if she could help us with anything. We brought friends there and we have on occasion brought them to restaurants that they were just ok with. They said this was their "new favorite restaurant." That says it all. It was just a great meal, great sangria and wonderful people working there. Loved that we didn't have to walk blocks away for parking as we do in Newark on weekends."

  • "My husband and I, took our parents out to dinner here. We had a great time, food is excellent and so are the drinks. Some dishes meant for an individual can be shared between two or more. The piaella for 2 - can seriously feed 4 people. However, its great if you want left overs or want to try a few dishes. Be warned, you should make reservations in advance if you make it out for Mother's Day, it was packed!"

This time tried the tapas and highly recommend the scallops! The date appetizer was to die for!!!!! A great spot to go to if attending an event at Prudential!"

  • "The saffron rice and chicken dish was outstanding. The short rib was good and nice quantity and tasty but might have had a little too much fat hidden under the sauce/gravy. Had an appetizer of potato/cheese croquettes and they were good and a nice serving size. Drive to NJPAC was 3 or 4 minutes and so convenient to the Spanish Pavillion."
