Ambiance very different from other 2 and 3 *'s but very friendly and smartly informal. Highly recommended. I wanted abalone and they created a special for me!!"

Aside from the seating, the meal and service was exquisite. We tried the 8 course California Tasting Menu with the wine pairing and were blown away with every bite."

  • "The food was fantastic, of course, but I was surprised by how friendly and accommodating the staff was. I really expected some snobbery and attitude but we were greeted by just the opposite. We waited about 15 minutes for our table, which is a very short wait for the LA area, and the hostesses were very apologetic. We were seated at a lovely booth with a view of the entire restaurant, which is absolutely beautiful, and the glass walled kitchen. Gorgeous! Our waiter was Jason and he and the rest of the wait staff couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. Jason had a great sense of humor and made our dinner even more enjoyable. The dishes were beautifully presented and large portions. Everything was exceptional. Go to Spago!!"

  • "Dined there for special family occasion. Was super excited to try this famous place. Menu items were of course pricey, but I was hoping that it would be worth the experience. Atmosphere was nice, but noisy. Lobster bisque with crab cake was very good. Spicy tuna hand roll cones were very tasty, but small portions. I ordered a "rack" of lamb, but really only got three tiny lamb chops which tasted good, but not worth the price. Veal schnitzel was quite plain (just fried, breaded meat with no sauce, just some cold veggies on side). It was like eating tonkatsu without any sauce. Had strawberry shortcake which consisted of a few tiny-looking cream puffs and a small portion of strawberries and cream. Highlight of evening was meeting Chef Puck!"

  • "I dined with my family at Spago while visiting LA. From the service, to the food, it was a great experience. We were very lucky and honored to be there on a night that Wolf Gang Puck himself was there. He greeted us and let me take a picture with him in the kitchen. As for the food, I ordered the oysters, the smoked chicken breast and leg, and a melon granite dessert. Great oysters. I think the best chicken I've ever had with such a rich mushroom sauce that I wish I had the recipe for. The dessert was the most unique, refreshing, and flavorful dessert I have ever tasted! And finally, fabulous and friendly service. Wish I could eat here every night. Do not skip this one!!!! Probably the best meal I've ever had. Cheers!"

  • "I made a reservation here to treat my significant other out for her birthday. We got seated at the most busiest table. Anyone coming in or out bumped into us. I felt like this table was just put here for the sake of sticking a younger couple. Why did a few parties of two got a nice booth away from heavy traffic? Also, our server came to us 3 times. One to take our order, once to give us our check and once to take our check. I truly felt like being younger, the server tended to the more "affluent" tables more. I wouldn't come here if I couldn't afford it. Horrible service. Felt disrespected."

  • "Our server was a bit of a snooty jerk (I didn't say anything but my girlfriend and others said something about it later) and our jidori chicken came out completely dry. It was like a brick. The pastas were good and the halibut was done perfectly. Not sure I would have gotten the loup de mer had I known the fish would have such a gritty and mineraly taste (I've had it elsewhere). I've been to Melisse (many times), Cut, and other fine-dining establishments in LA. Never felt judged like I did at Spago."

Given the reputation and prices, she expected a somewhat finer experience, but have dined in comparable settings in France, it appears we no longer have comparable fine dining."
