Nombe (pronounced “nom – bay”) refers to someone who likes to drink heartily. We are bringing Japan’s most popular eating and drinking establishments, IZAKAYA, to the heart of Mission.

We offer Northern California’s seasonal, sustainable, and locally sourced tapas food along with over 75 brands of premium sake, organic Shochu cocktails, as well as eight Japanese and local beers on tap.

  • "We had to wait quite some time for our server to greet us, then waited another 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive at the table (in fact, our appetizers arrived prior to our drinks). Our server was quite absent for much of the meal, and said she was pulling double duty (bartender and server). Notwithstanding the service, our food was impeccable - we tried quite a few items on the menu, and enjoyed all of them. The tofu small plate is not to be missed!"

  • "Pleasantly surprised by the creative items on the menu. The bacon mochi was amazing! And the guys really loved the pork belly. Oh, and the grilled hamachi cheek was awesome! And surprisingly, the Tofu salad was actually really good too. Granted, I did ask a side of ponzu sauce to drizzle over the tofu but the toppings on it were really yummy! A great surprise find for a group dinner to try out various items."

  • "This is a great intimate place for a dinner with friends. I brought my fiance and another couple here for his birthday and the food was delicious and served in a timely manner. The owner came and greeted us a couple of times and checked on our dining experience which was really nice. We did the Dine About Town prix fixe menu and it worked out really well."

  • "The Dine About Town meal (which they so nicely extended for 2 days because they had prior commitments for 2 days during the time period) surprised me with the quantity and how AMAZING it was. Chicken karaage was primo, crunchy and oily, but not too oily. The edamame hummus with homemade taro chips was the right balance of garlic and salt and crunch. I think I had some high expectations for the Ramenburger and would have liked a little more sear on the outside of the Ramen. I also had forgotten there was blue cheese on it that was a little too strong in flavor. What took the cake without being a cake was the apple pie gyoza a la mode, crunchy and warm and sweet. A perfect end to this place that I'll definitely return to."

  • "had lunch here for two reasons 1. ramenburger - which was oily and bland in some spots and super salty in others GROSS. 2. it was on the list for Dine About Town - big mistake. i would not come here again. Our server, a young asian guy was helpful but not really personable and enthusiastic. However, my gf ordered the okonomiyaki which took about 25 mins to come out. the rest of our party was already finished with our meal. I asked some guy behind the bar where her food was and he rudely said "who's food?" "well i dont know what you are talking about but i'll go check" REALLY BAD customer service on his end. He did come over and apologize as we were talking about writing a review on yelp. LOL"

  • "We tried this restaurant for Dine About Town and we're sad to report this place isn't worthy to be a Dine About Town restaurant. I was with a group of 7 and all of us agreed that the food was rather mediocre and the service was ridiculously slow for the venue capacity and limited number of folks dining on a Tuesday night. The salmon sashimi was slimy (who wants slimy sashimi?), the famous ramenburger was extremely greasy (don't go if you have a sensitive stomach), and their rendition of an apple pie (apple gyoza) was worse than the apple turnovers from McDonalds. The wait staff kept messing up our orders and someone in our party was kept waiting for their burger AFTER everyone else had finished theirs. No comps for the inconvenience."

  • "Went with 2 friends to check out their dine about town offerings. The manager sat us at our table immediately, but took 15 mins before someone took our order. The server had taken orders of two other tables before us, all of whom came after us. The service was not any better through the night. They were either short staffed or their (only) two servers were new. Regardless, the manager apologized for the delay. Also of note, two tables down from us, two men were seated but ended up walking out because no one had approached their table. I don't think the staff even realized that they had walked out. By the time we had our 5th course, I was no longer hungry. I've been trying to convince myself that overall it was a good experience. I can't."

  • "I invited my sister who has spent a year in Japan to revisit the Izakaya experience right in the heart of Mission. Nombe is small, but at 7pm on a Friday night there were still open tables. So reservation was a good idea, but not necessary. We each had a ramen burger. We both ordered the miso burger, but unfortunately, my sister received the wrong order and had the Shiyo burger instead. We didn't realize the mistake until we got to the end. I had a pleasant experience with my miso burger, but my sister did not. We also had a summer salad and a vegetable grill sampler. Both of which were interesting, but I thought the flavors were too strong and overpowering. Nombe is interesting and definitely worth a try, but not a craving-worthy place."

  • "My friend and I went specifically to try the ramenburger. Sadly, we have to agree with previous reviews. The ramen bun was fairly flavorless. It also needed to be a bit thicker and crisper. The ingredients inside, however, were very tasty. The terryaki infused patty and grilled onions were good. We also had the mac 'n cheese which was average. I'd be willing to try the original ramenburger to see if there should be hype."

  • "We went to Nombe for the ramenburger and it did NOT disappoint. The patty was juicy and the sauce so flavorful. It didn't even need the bacon. Loved the ramen substituting for the bun. It actually made the burger more enjoyable because you're not filling up on bun. It was described as a "slider" but it was the size of an In N Out burger. Also recommend the cod with the quinoa coating--very good texture and the fish was just right. If I lived in the Mission, I'd go there at least twice a month."

  • "I've been to Nombe a few times and their food execution is spot on every time. The ramen burgers are obviously delicious, and whenever you see brussel sprouts on the menu, order them. The owner has an eye on how long your food is taking and if he feels like it's verging on too long, he has been known personally deliver small glasses of sake to the table to keep you happy- and it does, for me at least. If you're in the mood for some playful Japanese food done right, come here."

  • "We had dinner at Nombe a few nights ago. Booked a table just to be sure. We show up at 9.15 to a completely empty restaurant. Had a few things. First the chawanmushi, sadly without uni which they didn't have that night. OK not super. Then some yakitori, very tasty. Followed that with dumplings, where they forgot our sauce. The Korean Fried Chicken was tasty if a bit soggy. To that, some rice and a few more dishes I can't remember. Then the servers dissapeared and we literally had to wave to order more. Some tasty dishes, some disappointments. Spotty service. Eight dishes plus some beer came to a total of $80 including tip."

  • "I was so disappointed because the food was phenomenal but the service ruined the entire experience. The server was extremely rude and actually turns and walked away as I was speaking to her! Our food came out at such different times that more than half of our party didn't receive food until 5-10 min after the other people in our party had already finished their meals. Three dishes were completely forgotten and the staff did nothing when we asked them about our order. It wasn't until we asked multiple times that we actually got SOME of what we ordered. I'm sad to say that I'll never go back, even though the ramen burgers were delicious."

  • "I had the best b-day dinner at Nombe. The owners, Gil and Nori, made the experience outstanding. Their warm welcoming smiles and friendly demeanor....in addition to the best home cooked Japanese food in the Bay area brought back memories of trips to Japan to visit my Grandmother and the delicious meals she made. p.s. I need to check into rehab soon...just can't kick the strong craving for mochi wrapped with bacon."

  • "I came to this restaurant on a Gilt special for a 7-course tasting menu with sake pairing. The food overall was lackluster. The best two dishes were the sunomono and the chawanmushi. One of the things they need to figure out is their workflow (or lack thereof). My main dish sat on the counter long enough that the beef was lukewarm and began to toughen. They appear to be understaffed and really need to figure out both the execution of their service and their overall tastes/textures of their dishes. I am a huge fan of ramen and was very disappointed in the flavor of the ramen broth. It was completely non-descript. I usually finish off both the broth and noodles in a really great ramen and I let my dinner companion finish off this dish."

  • "When my wife and I first walked into Nombe we weren't sure we were in the right place. It certainly doesn't have the look or appeal of the foods that they serve. More like a bar that would fry everything. They even have a TV on above their bar. However the food and sake pairings that we had were far above my expectations and I would recommend Nombe solely on their culinary prowess, if nothing else. Service was friendly and professional as well. All in all, we had a good time and I would recommend it to others."

  • "I came here expecting good things. Inventive-sounding menu, great location. The food was embarrassingly bad across the board, with terrible execution on dishes I had to struggle to eat. I couldn't even choke down my iced tea. Service went from ok to bad when owner could tell we didn't like the food. It was awkward, and then even more so when he had to run my credit card through Square 4 times and made me sign with my bare finger on his broken iPhone screen. To make matters even worse, I never got my 1,000 credits for using my United card, even though it's a certified restaurant. Never again."

  • "We should have turned around and walked out of Nombe as soon as we realized that at *PM on a Saturday only three or four tables were full. We reserved a table here because we had read about a particular dish (Ramen) but the only soup was a mini-bowl of mediocre quality. The one waitress was quite sweet but totally inexperienced and, frankly at this price point one would expect a more professional level of service. The restaurant is quite dark and depressing which did not make us feel better about paying over $70 for two or three appetizer-sized portions. All in all I would give this restaurant a miss."

Service was very poor; I had to wait 30 minutes before the waiter remembered to bring our drinks (and the restaurant wasn't even busy). The food was was under average. I'd rather go to a Subway than go back to Nombe again."

Being mostly veg and peseta rains we declined the waitresses entreaties to try the beef tounge small plate until we'd all had enough to drink to lose our inhibitions and then to our surprise we all loved it. This place is Japanese but it is definitely not sushi. Everything we had was terrific, the wait staff was very friendly and we had a great time."

Not sure if it was because of a late dinner but everything seemed to have come out from a fridge and previously prepared. The Dine About Town menu was good but poorly executed as stated earlier. Some things were really good but others were "meh". Service was weird and awkward - multiple servers that didn't communicate. Wanted to love it but walked away disappointed with a decent experience"

  • "For all you food lovers out there, I would recommend this place for their 7-course dine about town menu or their fresh selection of sashimi. They're not a sushi restaurant, per se, but they do serve their fresh fish of the day. The Uni pate for the first course with the pairing of same was pretty amazing. Get there fast for the great price!"
