A word from SouthWest NY
A warm and inviting oasis in Battery Park City, SouthWest NY is just a short block from the Hudson River Esplanade with views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and one block away from the World Trade Center. The restaurant blends modern SouthWestern design with sleek industrial elements. Features are huge skylights, a 10 foot long metal fireplace, and the use of reclaimed wood throughout the bar and dining areas.

The menu highlights the bold, fresh flavors of contemporary South Western cuisine. Favorites include Mojo Marinated Skirt Steak, Cedar Planked Salmon and Rio Grande salad. The bar features our signature Margaritas and 16 oz Mojitos, and over 35 tequilas.

Heat lamps on the outdoor patio and terrace allow outdoor dining in all but the chilliest weather. Be sure to also stop in at the Black Hound Bar, adjacent to Southwest NY, for an exquisitely crafted cocktail in a handsome setting.

Diner Reviews
  • "Took kids here for dinner on a visit to NYC. Good place for large groups, especially kids. They enjoyed the pasta and burgers. Fries were excellent I have to say. However my salmon was nothing to write home about - ok but not impressive. Waitress recommended it too. Have to say, menu choices looked great and it was disappointing that the food itself wasn't up to what we expected. Also, to the extent this makes a difference to anyone, waitress had to go ask bartender if they knew how to make an old-fashioned. Not a big deal and maybe it's because it's a southwestern restaurant so most people order margaritas, but it's not like that drink is unknown in the bar world, right?"

  • "Location of restaurant is excellent. In addition to being convenient to the 9/11 sights, it's one lock off the Hudson River Esplanade and right down the block from a parking garage. It's got great outside and inside dining options. The food is generous and very tasty. Will definitely go back."

  • "I took my team there for lunch and I loved the fact that the server asked up front, if we were on a schedule...which some of us were. We told her that two of us had to leave in 45 minutes so she made sure that we were in and out in that time. That put me at ease and allowed me to relax and enjoy lunch."

  • "This is our neighborhood place - fab for Mexican fare, bar scene, late night snack. Our server was awesome -- smart, attentive and knowledgable about the menu. Our salmon and fish tacos were great. Margaritas very nice. Will be an on-going staple in our out places list."

  • "About a minute after we sat down, the waitress was coming over and hounding us for our order before we even had a chance to look at the menu. The bar was loaded with people to watch the world cup but there were plenty of empty tables so it wasn’t like there was a rush to get us out of there. Once we ordered the food took a pretty long time to come, and then once we got it, bus boys and the waitress kept coming over trying to take our plates. I was just about to take my fork and stick it in a piece of chicken when a bus boy reached out to get my plate and asked if I was finished. Then, it took forever to get the check and to run the credit card! too weird! The food was great though as was the atmosphere."

  • "Southwest was a great place to eat brunch outside. Diners have a choice of sun or shade and the service is very attentive. The menu had a touch of southwestern dishes to distinguish it from the usual brunch fare and was a worth a repeat visit."

  • "Love the food here- we eat there and order in. Frozen Raspberry Margarita is great... Service always good, everyone is friendly. Much bigger than it looks from outside- miss the North Marina location but happy they are still in the neighborhood. "

  • "Service was not very good this first sunny, warm day we have had in NY in a long time. The restaurant was extremely crowded during my lunch hour (12:45). Service was awful. We waited for our food over 35 minutes. My co-worker's soda was flat and his pasta dish was luke warm and not piping hot (was not sent back to be heated because that would take more time). My food, salmon and rice, was hot and tasted very good. Our server offered to refill my co-worker's drink (ice tea) on the house. We would have had dessert. However, we spent so much time waiting for our meal. Therefore, after eating our meal, our lunch hour was over and it was time to go back to work."

  • "Found this place @ the last minute. The restaurant I had a reservation, canceled the night before stating they decided to close for the Easter holiday. Since I had plans with a friend for brunch I had to find a restaurant. The food was great, service was a bit slow for NYC. The guacamole was phenomenal. I had a margarita and all I could have was one. (No chintzing on the tequila here). Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for Southwestern cuisine. I plan to dine here again on a future visit to NYC. "

  • "The food and wine were delicious. Had the French Onion soup as an appetizer and the crust of the bread remained crunchy in the broth. Also, my boyfriend had the mussels as an appetizer and he received a large sized portion and was quite happy with it!"

  • "I just love Southwest! It is one of the best places in Battery Park City for lunch, dinner and especially brunch. It is fast becoming one of my favorite in the area."

  • "Went to SouthwestNY for a birthday lunch and it was fantastic! Working in Battery Park City/FiDi gives you very limited options and I can't believe it's taken me just over a year to find this gem! It certainly isn't one of the first to show up when you Google "restaurants" with the neighborhood zip code so it's easy to miss in an online search. Better late than never! Had the shrimp tacos - SPICY, but excellent. My co-worker had the fish tacos and said it was amazing (note: she claims hers wasn't spicy). We had the chips and guacamole to start, and it's some of the best guac I've had in awhile and the chips are great - not greasy and thick enough to hold heaping scoops of guac. Split the churros for dessert... best. choice. ever."

  • "an interesting set of mojito variations and a solid, though not extensive menu. we both had the braised pork shank and loved it. they were huge - one could have fed two people!. Came here once before with a group and tried every appetizer -- none disappointed. prices are reasonable and the service was spot on."

  • "Their goat cheese & mushroom quesadilla is delicious. As well as the El Valiente Guacamole. Just please train your staff! Teach them how to wait tables & to not forget about them once they've been seated."

  • "Everything we had from appetizers to entrees were great. Drinks are GENEROUS pours, and none of us had room for dessert. Always a good, solid place with friendly (and pretty) wait staff."

  • "Excellent food, good bar, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating."

  • "the service is always quite slow, but some of the food is good. it's quite overpriced, but there aren't many options in the area, so we do go back."

  • "Dined here a few times now and the food is consistently good. The price for portion size is perfect and the music and decor always please us."

  • "Went for Brunch. Drinks were good sizes. Mussels where delicious! Best Item we had at the table. Bad timing between appetizer and entree though. My entree got cold because of this and that always is annoying. Otherwise, I'd try this place again."

  • "I have been dining at this restaurant for over 15 years. Even though it has a new less seanic location. The food and service is still great."
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "The entrees were brought to the table while we were still eating appetizers and we had to tell the server we are still eating so he would not continue to put them on the table. When brought back to the table our dinners were no longer warm. The food is good, but there's something very amiss and lackadaisical with service. The restaurant could really improve with more attention to diners. This is my second time here and though I like the place (great margaritas) I don't know if I will return because of above."

  • "Unfortuantely there was just too much waiting around on the wait staff to clear our plates and get our bill. There needs to be more urgency for people eating during their lunch hour. Otherwise, overall it was great food and beautiful atmosphere."

  • "Was surprised by how child-friendly this place it! The food is great as well!"

  • "hopefully one day soon, the financial district, specifically the area near the World Financial Center will get some better options. Until then I will struggle through mediocre, pricey tex-mex regularly. Fish tacos look great but the fish is very bland. Ceviche is delicious but pretty small for the price. I like the quesadillas but how hard is it to mess up a quesadilla? Entrees are hit or mess but are generally very heavy with lots of added oil/fat to it. Waiters/waitresses are unfriendly at best. On the plus side: drinks are good with a nice beer menu. Outdoor seating is nice.. Southwest couldnt survive in any other neighborhood in Manhattan, but given their location and the lack of other options they're doing just fine."

  • "I had been to Southwest twice before for dinner. Both times had a pretty good experience with food and service. On the 22nd I invited a friend from LA to meet me for a relaxed lunch. Right from the outset Soutwest was having a bad day. The waiter informed us the kitchen is "broken", only have some sandwiches/ salads available, but the rest of the menu should be available in 15 minutes or so. Not being in a big rush we decided to stay and have a drink while the kitchen got its act together... 30 minutes and they still only have a very limited menu. Long story short they never got the full menu going for lunch and we made the best of it. You would think over the 90+ minutes we were there a manager would come by... not once."

  • "This restaurant has all the elements to ensure a good to great dining experience. The place is new and well kept. The food is good. The staff is friendly, helpful and attentive. The atmosphere is fun and exciting up front near the bar area and quieter and more relaxed towards the back. Good outdoor seating for nice summer nights."

  • "This was the 2nd time that I went to the restaurant & again it didn't disappoint. The food is great & the drinks we had were perfect, nothing watered down there. The waiters attended to our table just the right amount. This will always be a favorite spot for me with this kind of treatment!"

  • "Ate here on a Tuesday night with two colleagues while in NYC for business. Food was very tasty. I had the carne asada tacos which were fresh and tasty. Restaurant was not busy inside so it was quiet."

  • "We had a great dinner with friends from out of town. We have several kids between us and were offered the private room which was fantastic - better for us and for the rest of the diners!! Good food (lots of it) and nice cocktails. We'll be back!"

  • "Went on a Thursday evening and the place was mobbed and VERY loud. Also, the Air Conditioning wasn't working properly and it was extremely hot as well. My pasta was fine. The place suffered substantially with its move out of WFC."
    Dined on 7/18/2013
  • "Okay for a sit down lunch when near the WFC as there are limited options."

  • "They didn't seem to have enough servers. Ours only checked with us twice - once to place the order and once to drop off the check. Unfortunately, my fish tacos came out cold. A manager appeared. He didn't apologize, but took my plate and said they'd make another. It came back very quickly, but - apparently because I'd nibbled through one of two tacos already - my new plate only had one taco. It seems hard to believe that a restaurant would not apologize and not offer any compensation (in the way of a fresh, full meal or amount taken off the tab) for their mistake. In the end, this was just a place to have a meal, not an experience I'd be interested in repeating."

  • "I did not want to go to Southwest NY, I only went because my friend wanted to - I didn't think I would ike the food - but I had a salmon sandwich with salad, and it was wonderful - I already plan to go back with my other friends -"
