A word from Southward Fare & Libations
Whether it’s coming from the South or heading towards the South, Southward is basically defined as anything having to do with the Southern direction, specifically, the 180° compass point, pointing directly toward the South.

Here at Southward, we are devoted to all things Southern, and this means local ingredients, full flavors, and a comfort you can not only feel, but taste. The menu is defined by Chef Ryan Trimm’s take on Southern staples, including some items like fried chicken, collard greens, okra, and catfish, among many other delicious, traditional meals.

From the coastal food of Charleston and Bar-B-Que from Memphis, to fresh seafood off the panhandle of Florida and the Cajun cuisine of Southern Louisiana, Southward explores everything the South has to offer.

Our seasonal, local menu is a fresh breath of the South, combining scratch cooking and fresh ingredients. Serving only the tastiest fare with the warmest hospitality.

I had only been for brunch before but dinner turned out just as good. It was a holiday weekend so it was a slow crowd but the food was amazing and the service was amazing. We ended up staying a bit after we finished and we weren't rushed out at all. Our drinks were even refilled after we had paid which is always a good sign to me. I highly recommend Southward but know that it is a bit pricy.

Enjoyed our visit, good food! way too many food terms on the menu, thanks for the help IPhone! every dish description had a word or two that made us turn on to goggle for translation / interpretation....quantity is not for us; quality much more important, had to carry my left over wine on a very large bag, not discrete at all!

I've been to Southward before and have always had a great experience. This weekend, however, it took over 35 minutes to receive our drinks, over an hour for salads, and then our appetizers and entrees came out at the same time. Our waiter was very nice and was clearly working hard, but unfortunately we did not receive the service I believe our final tab warranted.

We had a great meal at Southward. We started with the pig fries and they are a must have! The asparagus salad is topped with a fried egg. I had that with the filet and both were outstanding. We have been before and have enjoyed it each time, but this meal was outstanding. Great wine list and good service as well.

Despite all the effort, The food was really pretty mediocre. As for the bar, after two attempts to prepare a proper Gin Gimlet, I gave up. It is rather sad as the personnel there really are trying hard.

Food was outstanding!!! We had the Shrimp & Scallops with Grits and was one of the best I have had outside New Orleans. Also tried the Southern Club Sandwich and it was amazing. Evan, our server was very courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. In fact, the Dine Room Manager and the entire Serving Team were impressively working together.

Has great atmosphere. We ordered two flights of wine, Rose and Italian and didn't like any of the 6 samples brought to the table. This was very disappointing since thats the primary reason for the visit. Aside from this, we ordered two vegtable sides off the specials menu with our meal. The were presented well but when we asked for something to spoon them to our plates the server seemed to think it was okay just to spoon them off with our individual forks. This was after I specifically asked for something to serve them with. Other than these two issues the food itself was great Other than this the service was good.

Although the atmosphere is somewhat casual, the decor is elegant enough to make this a special occasion setting. The salmon dish with creamed corn and friend green tomatoes was excellent!! There is a sufficient enough wine by the glass menu to meet the needs of those who don't want to order a full bottle. Our waiter was excellent---not too overbearing, but there before you actually knew that you needed him. I highly recommend this restaurant.

If it had not been for good company and previous dining experience I would not return. Crawfish bisque lacked flavor and crawfish. With a bisque I expect thick richness and flavor. This bisque was without spice and richness. I'd rather had the leek soup. The rotisserie chicken salad was good could have gone for more greens.

I chose Southward 4 my birthday lunch w/ my family. This was my 2nd time to dine @ Southward but my 1st time 2 have brunch there. It was not crowded @ all, & the atmosphere was nice. Our server was very friendly but a bit inattentive. We had 2 flag her down 2 tell her that my mom's coffee was full of grounds. She was polite about it but said there wasn't a lot she could do b/c "that's the problem with a French press." Menu was very limited. My dad had very good Bloody Mary, & I had great mimosa, tho its presentation was lacking. Among us, we ordered shrimp pilau, croque madame, pimiento cheeseburger, & eggs Benedict. Croque Madame was only truly good item. This was my 2nd underwhelming experience @ Southward. I won't return.

Service started out at a 4 and quickly fell to 2.5 as our waitress repeatedly forgot about us. The food was just okay with the exception of the scallops (which were fabulous) Even the bread was lacking - our biscuits were not fully cooked and were dough-y in the middle. I ordered off the special farmers menu and both items were cold by the time they got to our table. I actually had to remind my waitress about the second vegetable. I can not say how the restaurant would have handled my less than satisfactory experience because I was too frustrated to complain. It simply is not my style even though I realize most establishments would prefer the opportunity to 'fix' things.

With all the hoopla surrounding this new opening I was startingly disappointed.by my experience. My wife's meal was OK, but the scallops I ordered were a joke. $32 for four ather small mushy scallops (larger fare?) was a bit much. I suspect the restaurant will claim I am wrong, but the scallops certainly didn't taste fresh to me. Red Lobster would have been a better choice!

Hostess not helpful at all with our request to change our table away from the restroom. Our cocktails much better if we made them ourselves and had to send one drink back for exchange as it was not as ordered. Serve staff good and food more than good! We were not impressed initially, but our meal was delicious which made up for it all!

We were looking forward to discovering a great new restaurant, but we were all disappointed. While the atmosphere and service were good, the food was average or below, especially for the price. Even after sending back the raw duckling, it was tough after cooking a bit more. The scallops were tiny and very average. With Ruth's Chris and Owen Brennan in the same shopping center, we won't be returning to Southward.

We had fun but the food was fair. Raw oysters lacked that briney quality as if over cleaned by the "amateur shucker" (the waiter's term). Leek soup had plenty......... of black pepper but little leek flavour. Finally, the lamb meatloaf was overcooked to the point of a charcoaled crust. On a positive note, we had a good time and our waiter was great. He recommended a wine that was excellent and also offered a well-priced Pol Roger champagne to accompany our oysters. I might return for small fare at the bar but not to the dining room.

The hostess (Francesca?) was great and promptly seated us in our booth. Our server came by for the drink order and we both ordered wine. Her recommendations seemed to be based on the price of the wine rather than our specific taste in wine. Our server was not familiar enough with the details about the dishes on the menu to explain to us what they were. We asked about substituting an order of the highly recommended brussel sprouts for the baked beans but were told that it could not be done; not that it would add cost to the meal – it couldn’t be done. After sitting with empty wine glasses for about fifteen minutes I told the server that it wasn’t working out for us and we would go somewhere else for our meal. We will not go back.

I brought a dear friend for a quiet celebration and we had an absolutely perfect time. The level of noise allowed for quiet, private conversation. Our server was very professional and attentive. Our Executive Lunch of delicately fried skinless chicken was so flavorful, very light and perfectly done. It reminded me of my Mom's cooking. The salad greens were were just right and both of our dressings were added with a very light hand--perfect for calorie conscious people.

I brought two colleagues here for a Christmas lunch. Neither guest had been here before and both were very impressed with the entire experience. We had the delicious Executive Lunch of the day (which is also an amazing value), a well seasoned and tender steak sandwich on a crispy, delicate bun. The sweet potato fries were cooked perfect, as well. All three of us also had the fennel soup which is light, creamy and divine! The chef is light on the salt, which we loved. Our server, Caitlin, was attentive and I could tell very well trained in the art of serving. Everyone from the time we walked in was friendly and the whole vibe of the restaurant is wonderful!

The menu is sooo creative that it misses some of the basics. The dill sauce on the Eggs Benedict did not add anything to the flavor, but actually took away from the salmon and eggs. An addition of capers instead of dill in the hollandaise would have been a nice touch.

We love Sweetgrass and were hoping to be similarly wowed... Unfortunately we found the meal to be just passable. The Croque Madame was dry, and although the pastrami was excellent, the lack of moisture throughout the dish made it less enjoyable. The egg on top almost made up for that, but not altogether. Overall a disappointment; we ate only half. The brioche with which the French toast was made was excellent. Unfortunately this dish was overpoweringly sweet and impossible to finish. The French press was a nice touch, though the steps of service in an ok but inexperienced server were awkward. We carefully ordered our meal to come in stages and somehow still got everything delivered backward. After $55 including tip, we left hungry.
