Diner Reviews
  • "I've been a customer of Southern Hospitality on a few occasions now. It's a great place to hit for Happy Hour and I've rarely been disappointed with what I order. This time I had the Prime Rib dip and was disappointed in the lack of flavor. If you haven't been to Southern Hospitality definitely give it a try but I highly recommend to stick with the BBQ....and of course the green fried tomatoes! "

  • "We met my niece for Sunday Brunch and had a wonderful meal and a great visit. I love any kind of BBQ and southern is the best."

  • "Amazing service. Friend and I went for brunch and we had a great time. Food was a little heavy, but we expected that with brunch and a southern food spot. Server was awesome and willing to chat us. Bottomless mimosas were great. I'll definitely be back as the weather gets nicer to sit on their patio."

  • "My friends and I had a great time at Southern Hospitality. The food was not only delicious, but it was food that surprises and satisfies, and is good value for your money. After our meal, they brought out hot towels to clean our hands or face. The service was outstanding. We will definitely go back again soon!"

  • "Our only complaint was the speed of service; it was a little slow. Our server seemed to have tables both up and down stairs which I am sure contributed to her lack of attentiveness. The food was great. The fried okra was killer, reminiscent of Mom's. I had the shrimp and grits. It was a very unique dish and quite tasty. I would get it again. My wife had a brisket sandwich. Now, I worked at famous BBQ restaurant in Austin, TX during college and I regularly smoke brisket on my own smoker at home. I am picky about my brisket. It has to have great smoke flavor, but more importantly at has to be moist and tender enough to pull apart easily with your fingers. I gotta say, the brisket impressed. I am going to crave this place."

  • "They were not prepared for Rockies opener. Ran out of food items & draft beer. Slow service, esp bar. Need to staff up & plan for Downtown events that will effect them. Need to honor reservations before walk ins. If they are participating in Denvet dining options, ie wine pairings/ sampling, staff needs to know about. No flyers visible to customers either. Pleasant staff, just not ready."

  • "It's been our 3rd time to this restaurant. My husband & I love to go out often to explore the Denver restaurtant scene - hopping from place to place based on our tastebuds. I'd been wanting a good dessert and the Pecan Pie on the menu had been calling my name. Sooooo looking forward to it! However, i was greeted with a barely warmed pie with pecans that tasted burnt. After a bite or two, we called the server over (he just wasn't following up on his product) to have the kitchen warm the pie. The pie that returned had been warmed, however, the portion that we sent back was larger than the portion we recieved, the pecans tasted even more burnt than before and we had to ask for the whipped topping again. Peach Crisp not much better."

  • "The food was really, really good. I had chicken tenders and biscuits (which turned out to be an entire half-chicken, bones and all. But I digress). It was juicy with amazing breading and the biscuits were flaky but still moist. The gravy was pretty good too. Great breakfast potatoes. Their basic bloody mary is okay. Not that spicy and no accoutrements if you don't ask. (I mean, I got an olive and a lime, which is just sad compared to the Memphis BBQ Mary - it has celery, pickle, olive, lime, bacon, salt, dry rub, Deviled egg, and a spare rib. And, a beer chaser! So you can understand my disappointment when I didn't even get a pickle.) I don't love coming downtown on the weekends so the location was a minus for me, but no one else minded."

  • "Arrive hungry; every day is Thanksgiving at Southern hospitality. The deviled eggs ("bacon and eggs") are outstanding! Service is prompt, courteous, and attentive."

  • "The ambience is neat here, the decor is very eye-catching. The food was pretty good, different, but good. Maybe slightly pricey, but not unaffordable. The BBQ eggs benedict was weird at first but once I got used to the idea of it I really enjoyed it."

  • "Atmosphere is great and exciting. From the moment we walked in I was excited and it looked like a place I want to hang out with friends and enjoy some drinks. I was looking forward to the food especially when I saw the menu section "From the Smoker". If you're going to have that on your menu then you better have a smoker and know how to use it. The food was edible sure, but had zero smoky flavor. I expected the Southern Fried Chicken to be crunchy it was not at all. Again food was edible, but nothing to write home about and I definitely would not go back and would not recommend it. If you want to know what food from the smoker tastes like, I suggest you give Rib City Grill a visit."

  • "Love the decor and the food was very good but the Staff and service are the true stars at this restaurant!! The menu has some great Southern staples that are hard to find elsewhere in Denver. The Smoked Prime Rib Egg rolls are a big hit!"

  • "The food was good, but the noise was too loud. I made a reservation a month out and they sat us next to a bachlorette party. The party was loud, taking shots, and being rude to the tables around them. I will never go back."

  • "Large portions. Strong drinks. Service could be better."

  • "The food was the best southern style food I've since I've moved from the South. The staff was excellent and very kind."

  • "This place had great southern food, which was why we wanted to try it! Two of us had fried chicken -- the portions were huge, and the chicken terrific. One of us had the fried chicken salad. That was also really good -- the chicken, again, was great, and the dressing had a nice kick to it. The last person had brisket, which she reported was tender and tasty. Again, it was a very good-sized portion. The service was also great -- our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, friendly, and attentive. I now want to try brunch."

  • "The only thing that me and my friend were unhappy about is being seated right infront of the door. Everytime the door opened we were blasted with cold air from the 15degree night with snow. People would just stand there with the door open. I would never sit there again."

  • "Horrible service, one person sat us, served us, brought us our food ... everyone else stood around"

  • "My mother-in-law who grew up in the south did not like her collard greens and my sister-in-law brought over the manager to tell him so. She explained how collard greens do not need vinegar and ruined the taste. The manager listed and said he would talk to his chef and then brought her another side dish. He seemed genuinely interested and I appreciate that. It was a birthday party for my son, so I wanted everyone to enjoy themselves."

  • "Food was far from what I expected from a BBQ establishment. Portions were small and extremely overpriced. The taste of the food was disappointing. Not good at all. Spent $80+ and still left the place hungry. Was excited to visit as I have heard of the restaurant but this was a one time visit."

  • "Meat was dry, mashed potatoes were cold and it was too expensive. They ran out of fried chicken. Waitstaff was nice, but I would never return."

  • "My husband and I had brunch late-morning on a Saturday. We enjoyed the BBQ Benedict and Chicken & Biscuits, but the cheddar grits included with the BBQ Benedict were left untouched aside from a first taste. Service was not as expedient or regular as we would have preferred, but we survived. The warm towels provided at the end of dining were a nice touch on the restaurant's part. We will eat here again when friends and family come to visit (because of the Justin Timberlake-factor), but it probably won't be a regular spot for us."

  • "... But when you walk in, you carrying one daughter and your wife is carrying the other daughter (of nine months) and you're wife falls while holding the child because of a spill on the floor, the restaurant should in some way acknowledge it. They are only lucky no one was hurt. However, they could have easily made amends had they said something, investigated the situation, or, hey, but my wife a drink for her troubles. But nothing. And it's rubbed me the wrong way ever since."

  • "We had high hopes for this place. The environment and the employees were excellent. But that can't make the food better. We ordered the prime rib and it wasn't even warm. That was the most disappointing part. The fried green tomatoes were great and the fried pickles were good. I prefer pickles sliced thinner. The service was good and the sweet tea was good. The pecan pie was the best part. Very disappointed, especially for Valentine's Day."

  • "I took my wife here for her birthday a few days ago and it was wonderful. The atmosphere was fun, wood and brick. The food was phenomenal I got the Chicken and Waffles and never had better in my life. My wife had ribs she loved them. The portions are HUGE. the only downfall is the waitress/server was very slow, it took a while before we were greeted and longer to get our drinks. The food cam out quickly. If the server was more attentive I would have given SH 5 stars"

  • "We have been several times -- great food and service, every time. Portions are quite large - best to have your group order several items and try them all -- you can't lose!"

  • "It was friendly and warm from the moment we walked in. Four of us sat in one of their round booths. Waitstaff was great. Pulled chicken and ribs were the best. Two friends ordered the pulled pork and four that it was not well seasoned. Overall great experience and fun environment."

  • "I don't think it is too much like being in a Southern Restaurant but it was enjoyable for a night. We shared the shrimp and grits which was pretty good but it is not made like that in the South. Appetizer was really good and my girlfriend really enjoyed the Bread Pudding. It is definitely overpriced. You would never find shrimp and grits in the South for $23 and it would be better in the South. I definitely would not go back often but maybe one day down the road again."

  • "We asked to be moved from a table by the cold window to a booth so we could "corral" my 3 yr. old granddaughter & they were very accommodating. Appreciated the parking perk & info about parking on website. Good website too. Ribs were a little greasy. Green chili cornbread was dry. Fried chicken was very good. Large servings - little higher priced than I would normally pay. overall, good experience - will come back with all adults someday. Like the downstairs better than main floor."

  • "The ribs and brisket were tender juicy and well smoked. The sides baked beans, cole slaw, and mac and cheese were short on flavor and freshness. Service was disengaged and useless for making any suggestion of the 300 or so bourbon and whiskeys or the food on the menu. I was excited after the description I read and was disappointed by experience. We could have done better for $90.00 in Denver."

  • "Even though its pecan pie comes from J. Timberlake's mom's recipe, Southern Hospitality is meh. As a fourth generation southerner, I was unimpressed with the barbecued brisket (bland, dry) and the grits (hardened clump of chalky kindergarten paste). Our blackened salmon was a bit salty, but cooked to order. The aforementioned pecan pie wasn't half bad, but would've been great served warm (hint, hint). The banana pudding was yummy, but the kitchen's brulee torch was broken, so the promised carmelized topping was not to be had. Buttery biscuits would've been a compelling so. touch. The piped-in soul music was appropo, but it was hard to believe that the TVs were tuned to the Michigan/Michigan State game in lieu of the Avs. Service was good."

  • "We had a reservation for 10 people on a Friday night. We were seated early and the service was great. The staff was attentive and friendly, but not pushy or rushed. The room was energetic, but not so loud that you would have to yell to talk to people at your table. We started with appetizers: the prime rib eggrolls were so delicious that we ordered a second round, and we got some classic fried okra to go with them. The specialty whiskey drinks, while good, were a little small for the price. They have one of the largest whiskey selections in town. Our dinner selections were all delicious. The sides left something to be desired (cornbread was dry and mac n' cheese wasn't cheesy.) The bourbon banana bread pudding was best b.p. ever!"
