  • "The chef's rendering of shrimp & grits is unique and delicious; my favorite thus far after dozens of tastings of this classic."
    Dined on 4/8/2014
  • "The food was good and well presented - they do not have liquor license so we were unable to get a nice bottle of wine."

  • "As always, Southern Graces Bistro at The Beaufort Inn was as close to perfection as possible. The wait staff was most attentive, although new, and did a fine job. The cuisine was outstanding, and the ambiance most relaxing."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Nice ambience in good downtown location at reasonable prices. Excellent scored flounder, citrus salad.love the BYOB.no corkage fee."

  • "We were given a gift certificate to southern graces. We live not far away and have enjoyed brunch there on several occasions, so we used the gift for brunch and we're not disappointed. The smoked salmon lollipops are a big favorite, as are the eggs Benedict. You get just one, which leaves room for the other excellent offerings. The brunch is a buffet, with everything from salad to omelet station to sinful desserts and complimentary bloody Marys and mimosas . Our waiter Larry was really good – attentive but not intrusive. Highly recommended."

  • "Had a very special meal - try the Clemson wedge and farm raised Redfish - just great!"

  • "Did not have dessert as we were so full. Cannot say enough about the meal...salads were outstanding, scored flounder, shrimp/grits like none ever had, and the popovers were outstanding. And the oysters and fried green tomatoes were also notable. Our server was very personable."

  • "Please make sure I receive my points. I told the server, but she was very busy. Thanks"

  • "The she crab chower was excellent and without a loquor license they encouraged BYOB. The grouper was very bland."

  • "We met up with some long time friends for a great evening. The food was excellent and also the service. Very nice surroundings , fireplace, nice romantic facilities. I highly recommend. Note, you have to take your own wine or beer."

  • "The menu reads better than it eats. The salads were excellent but all of the hot courses were barely warm. This likely lent to their flavour being very flat. The restaurant was also out of 2 entrée items at 12:30 PM."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "Great meal with great service. Their version of Fried Green Tomatoes and She Crab soup are worth the trip. Nice dining room but the Bistro is strictly BYOB, so come prepared."

  • "Typically, we do not dine out on holidays or special events like Valentine's Day, as we find the food is usually not up to par and the staff hurried and harried! We saw Southern Graces advertisement in the Beaufort "Island News" for a prix fix dinner, and decided to give it a try. The dinner was outstanding. They offered three choices for the appetizer, main dish and dessert and each was tempting! My husband and I both ordered the lamb chops, and they were so tender and tasty. My husband had a tomato and lobster soup as an appetizer and I had a wonderful crunchy salad with roasted pear and pecans. We both had the chocolate creme brule for dessert - wow! The setting is lovely, and all who were dining seemed to be in a festive mood!"

  • "A little too close to other tables, but a nice place."

  • "I must say this was a perfect choice. It was quiet, romantic and intimate for me an my husband. You couldn't even tell that they were busy. The setting was perfect. The food was outstanding. We really enjoyed the lamb we ate. Very tender, topped off with sweet potatoe flavor and cauliflower. Great great choice. The fact I could bring my own wine was a added touch. I would definitely recommend this Southern Graces for any occasion. If you're looking for a nice and pleasant dinner scene, it's your choice."

  • "As you'd hope, Beaufort's namesake inn includes a quality kitchen, and on Valentine's night -- challenging anywhere -- the mettle to acquit itself. The four-course menu crafted for the occasion was nonetheless tempting. A filet mignon for her with horseradish scalloped potatoes and sautéed scallops with truffle grits for me were sumptuous and top notch. Among the highlights were the creamy lobster tomato soup, the red velvet soufflé and the chocolate crème brulee. Worthy of the indulgences. Service was cordial and impeccable. The only drawbacks were the absence of a wine list -- no license -- and the rather ill-informed baseball fan at the next table who spoke with authority but swung wildly and whiffed. Otherwise, it was a bit hit."

  • "Even though we went at an early hour and there were not many people we were treated like guests of the Queen. Perfection at every turn yet not at all stuffy or unfriendly. Food was as fine as it can get. We read that the chef is from New York, an amazingly creative artist and we truly appreciated everything."

  • "My husband and I love Southern Graces. We go "out of our way" to eat there. The Sunday brunch is fabulous. The food never disappoints us. It is our favorite restaurant in South Carolina."

  • "Part of an old inn, this is a lovely restaurant that is BYOB! Food was very good and beautifully presented. Very quiet. Had a lovely breakfast here also."

  • "Food was prepared in a timely manner even though the restaurant was quite busy. The chef honored my gluten-free requests and toasted the G-F bread I brought with me to have with my salad and the delicious maple butter they served with warm popovers. I will definitely be going again soon."

  • "A cozy spot on a chilly evening. There signature popovers are wonderful. We We're pleased with everything. The crab cake appetizer had a unique twist. It was shaped over marinated cucumbers, I thought it was delicious. It's a BYOB restaurant & and no corkage fee. They serve it nicely for you. We thoroughly enjoyed it."

  • "A great place to take out-of-town guests so they can experience Beaufort's southern charm in a restaurant and the food. Like that we can bring our own wine and happy that they now take credit cards."

  • "I took a good friend here and she loved it. She ate as many popovers as she could. It's a great brunch on Sunday. Only $21.95 and includes a free mimosa or large bloody mary. All the dishes are wonderful. My favorite Beaufort restaurant. I take all my out of town guests here."

  • "For the most part this is a very nice upscale restaurant for finer dining. One of the things we like is that is BYOB which allows us to bring our own wine selection. The only time we have had an Issue was with a large affair (i.e. Easter Dinner buffet) which was not handled well. They were not prepared for the large amount of people. For small parties they do just fine. Yes, I would definitely recommend this restaurant as it was one of the very few upscale restaurants in the area."

  • "My husband and I dined here for dinner one evening while on a weekend getaway. The food was good but not spectacular. Unfortunately, they appeared to be understaffed and the poor girl waiting tables was obviously overwhelmed. She did as well as she could but needless to say the service was lacking as she was on her own. We had breakfast here the next day and the service was much better, although we were the only customers at the time. Overall it was a decent experience."

  • "Food uneven. Wife"s lamb came out uncooked twice. All courses were rushed . We felt they were in a hurry to turn over table. Tried unsuccessfully to get them to slow the courses down. Would not return. There a lot of better choices in Beaufort"

  • "We combined New Year's Eve with the wedding anniversary of a favorite couple, and the four of us had a delightful time. The ladies loved the grouper and the men loved the lamb chops. Hot popovers to die for; a marvelous spring roll appetizer; outstanding lobster bisque, and a fantastic triple dessert plate of creme bruele, chocolate cake and apple crisp. Service was attentive without being obtrusive As is normal here, the dining room tables are placed rather too close, but the acoustics of the lovely Victorian room seem to suppress neighboring conversations sufficiently. Beaufort's finest dining at a reasonable price."

  • "The restaurant was very busy due to office Christmas gatherings, thus very noisy. I selected the venue because I thought it would be relatively quiet, forgetting it is the holiday season. My issue, not the restaurants. Also, we ordered a salad and the portion for both was like a side salad vs. the main course. Very disappointing!"

  • "The service was excellent, with Hannah as our server. We were one of two tables seated, therefore, it was very quiet. The complimentary wine was a nice addition, however, the food was very mediocre. The crisp flounder was not crispy and the crab stuffed grouper was mushy and tasted like a frozen entree. We will not return."

  • "We loved this restaurant. The food was outstanding, the service was good and it was so charming."

  • "A lot of the food offerings here are generally not found on other restaurant menus and are originals you just have to experience. We have been here several times and have never been disappointed. BUT be sure to bring your own bottle of wine with you if you want some with your meal. This is an alcohol free establishment."

  • "Our first time since the remodel. Absolutely a great evening for the two of us. We made reservations through Open Table and were seated promptly in the smaller, more intimate dining room. Our server was very timely in offering a complimentary glass of red wine and bringing hot popovers similar to a Yorkshire pudding. We split the perfectly cooked 6 cornmeal fried oysters served on the half shell. Salads followed. A not your normal Caesar and a Citrus mixed greens salad were fresh and uniquely prepared. Our entrees of scallops over linguine and a Crispy Flounder with Apricot sauce arrived piping hot. We shared a desert of white chocolate banana pudding. All excellent in presentation and taste. If you're in the Beaufort SC area, don't miss it"

  • "Many thanks to our server Cleopatra who provided exemplary service to an incredible meal. We were celebrating the graduation of our USMC graduate and her gracious acknowledgment of him was truly touching. The setting is charming with appropriate decorum and respect balanced with just the right amount of Southern hospitality to put our exuberant group at ease. The crab cakes were divine, she crab soup and oysters perfect. Everyone at our table of eight was thoroughly pleased with their entrees. Wahoo was out of this world! The big surprise was the incredible, gigantic popovers, the likes of which I have never seen. It was a memorable meal suited to such a memorable occasion. Thank you Southern Graces!"

  • "We discovered Southern Graces on a previous trip to Hilton Head. Sure glad we did. Beaufort is a great place to visit. Take a carriage ride and the have a lunch at Southern Graces. You will be glad you did."

  • "Food very good and well presented by an excellent staff ... the Popovers are to dye for ... great venue"

  • "Every couple of weeks, a friend and I take turns choosing a different restaurant for lunch followed by shopping, this was one of those days. Fresh from the oven huge popovers are served instead of bread or rolls at the Beaufort Inn. So many choices, it's difficult to make a decision, all were interesting from a mini-dinner entree to sandwiches, salads, soups, desserts, yum ! The only hot coffee for my friend was de-caf which is not what she wanted. We both found that strange, but we do live in the lowcountry of SC where sweet tea is like water ! There were men, but outnumbered by women at the Beaufort Inn Southern Graces dining rooms. I had sent an email to the restaurant thru the Open Table site & got phone call back !"

  • "Southern Graces Bistro always has outstanding food and an imaginative menu. What makes it such an enjoyable event is the location that enhances that great menu. SG is located in the beautiful Beaufort Inn which a a gem in our lovely town. The recently renovated dining area just made it that much more special. Thanks for a lovely evening and we'll see you soon."
