  • "Fried Dill Pickle Chips - absolutely delicious, crispy and tangy, served with a basil cream dip, my new favorite appetizer Fried Green Tomatoes with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce and Goat Cheese - I've had better, fried well, but very bland Braised Short Rib Grilled Cheese - just amazing, rib meat was tender and juicy, caramelized onions were sweet, cheese was super melty, bread was crispy Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Braised Collard Greens and Mashed Potatoes - not good at all, chicken was crispy but needed more seasoning, greens were tender, but needed some heat and flavor from some smoked meat Shrimp and Goat Cheese Grits and the Jambalaya - heard they were great, will order next time Buttermilk Biscuits - shameful, dry, hard, flavorless"

  • "The waiter and host were sweating and host was so much so, it was dripping off his nose and chin. The fried chicken, a house specialty was over cooked and not very flavorful. The short ribs my wife and niece had were good/very good, but the brussels sprouts side disk wasn't much above good. Their house Mac / Cheese was very good, but, that doesn't save the meal. The beer list is excellent, the happy hour in the bar was popping and might have been fun. We just wanted a special, but not fancy, dinner with an out-of-town relative. The company was great - the restaurant, less so."

  • "My husband and I were looking to have a quiet dinner out after a very busy and difficult week. Unfortunately that was not the case. When we arrived the restaurant was empty. We were seated at a table for two by the window. within 10mins a group of about 10 people were seated right behind us and they were so loud and disruptive. Their conversations were very inappropriate and it just escalated as the evening progressed. The staff seem to know them very well and even had their favorite bottles of wine chilling. I suspect that this behavior was permitted since they are regulars. We couldn't wait to leave! This was my husbands first visit and although the food and service were fantastic we will not be back. Back to the Stone Rose!"

  • "I received rave reviews for finding Southern Cross. It was my responsibility to locate a midway point to meet for an elderly woman, an old friend of my Moms, and her daughter. They we very impressed with my choice and my Mother and I also enjoyed the whole experience as well. My mother often times will have a craving for fried chicken....needless to say that the entree she chose was perfect. The wait staff was friendly and very patient with our more elderly diners that evening."

  • "We've been to Southern Cross several times and have gotten different entree's, sandwiches, and apps - and this time was no different. The short rib flat bread was excellent. The grilled cheese with short rib was tender, soft, and tasty. Of course, the fried tomatoes and fried pickles were as good as always and a must not miss."

  • "This was my 2nd trip to SCK and my first dinner experience. It was very noisy upstairs where we sat. I think there was some kind of party going on? And then a musician started playing at only 8:00 pm. The air conditioning was blowing so hard our hair was moving. Both my table and the table next to us asked to have it turned down and it was temporarily. Oysters were wonderful but cooled off so quickly with the A.C. directly pouring on them. I think I'll stick with lunch and downstairs. "

  • "Our entrees were very good, the burger for my husband and the catfish tacos for me. Tasty, prepared very well. Had the fried green pickles and fried green tomatoes for apps. Not so good. Not very much flavor in the pickles, other than the pickles. Batter needed salt. Tomatoes were just odd. Of course, I'm from the South where everything fried is pretty much perfect. Need to save any fried food cravings for trips home. "

I was intro'ing a work colleague new o the area to both Conshy and the area plus his wife but the wait staff made sure to continually remind us they overbooked. It was not only Awkward but rude as they kept pushing us to order and leave. "

  • "The Southern Cross Kitchen offers an inventive brunch menu with southern touches and original dishes. We visited for dinner shortly after they opened. At that time, the servers were not experienced and the food was just ok but not great. Now it seems they have broken into their stride and have smoothed out the wrinkles. The food was really good, from Eggs Benedict with crab and fried green tomatoes to a twist on the burger that wowed my 25 year old son. And the service was excellent. Everyone was attentive and very friendly. We will definitely visit again and I think our 23 and 25 year old kids will be coming back on there own. "

  • "The menu for this restaurant is far more ambitious than the food that is served. My 16 dollar Tuna Tartar was mostly mayonnaise on avocado. The Brussel salad was tasteless and my partners' sliders were pieces of fried chicken on tired biscuits. The waiter didn't know the beer list because he had been off for a few days and had very little enthusiasm for his work and the restaurant looks dark and dirty. The high note was that the hostess saw my foot was in a boot and sat me downstairs instead of up where our reservation had placed us, the low note, was that we were then cancelled on Open Table and I had to call to get my points. She was completely lovely about it all but the restaurant needs much more than one person to be acceptable."

  • "This place was awesome. Great service, great meal, great atmosphere. We actually tried to go Saturday night but the restaurant was completely booked. Kinda glad we went Sunday though because it was a lot less crowded allowing for a more personalized experience. Everything we had was great, from the solid list of craft beer to the chocolate peanut butter cake to finish. I would absolutely recommend Southern Cross to everyone."

  • "I was so excited to check out this new spot,and really disappointed it was not that good. Our server didn't really make our experience good. We over heard a couple ask about the specials and we had to ask him of there was any. The food took almost an hour to get as people around us who got there after us were being served their entrees. When the entree came out I was so excited only to find my fish was raw as can be. What I was able to eat was good and was bummed out it wasn't cooked. By the time out server came back I just wanted to get out of there so I asked for the check and after a few minutes from taking our plates he apologized about the raw fish and deducted from the bill Hopefully is just a growing pain. Great concept"

  • "My friend and I had a great lunch celebrating his birthday. The food is awesome. I highly recommend everything on the menu! It is authentic southern cooking with a bit of flair. The pecan pie was the best I've ever had. The service was fantastic; warm and fun and welcoming. Our sever, Virginia was friendly and helpful. She arrived at the table with a big smile and when she found out it was my friends birthday went the extra mile and delivered his dessert with a lit candle and sang happy birthday to him. He was so touched. It meant s much to him. It proves that warm and gracious southern hospitality is alive and done well in Conshohocken at Southern Cross Kitchen. Thank you for a lovely experience!"

  • "A group of 8 gals visited on a late Friday night. It's a nice restaurant for groups. This night was a little loud due to a one man band, which made it a little difficult to here each other across the table. The service was good and she was knowledgable of the menu items. Overall, a good experience. I'd recommend the short ribs."

One time I had the quiche which was delicious, and another time the omelet which was very good. I had lunch there during the week and found that disappointing compared with the brunch foods served."

My only complaint would be with the knowledge of the servers regarding the dishes- My dining partner and I were sharing an appetizer and were leaning toward the Margarita shrimp. Wanting to make sure that there would be a suitable number of shrimp to share between the two of us, we asked how many it came with before ordering. We were told, without hesitation, 4- which seemed fine (2 for each of us). However, when the dish came, there were only 3, leaving one of us with a single shrimp as an appetizer. We would have ordered a different appetizer had we been told the portion size correctly- as this is clearly a dish meant for a single person! Otherwise, everything was stellar as usual."

  • "We were seated immediately with a really nice table. Loved the drink & food menu & we ordered the pork quesadilla app -really good but quite spicy!! - and the oysters & filet apps. Our meals were on the small side - jambalaya was excellent but a little lacking in the meat department - but were still very tasty. Lots of great flavors in all the dishes. The key lime and pecan pies were also quite good. Our biggest issue was with service. Half of our table got water right away, the other half ended up going to the bar to get theirs after waiting quite some time. One entree was overcooked & another didn't come out until the rest of the table was 1/2 way done! They just need to get the service into better shape, otherwise it was great!"

  • "Enjoyable dining experience. The crowded and loud bar is separated from the small dining area by only a few feet, but the noise level is acceptable. The service was attentive and pleasant. Skip the Caesar Salad and go for the flatbread with short rib and mac and cheese. It was large enough for the four of us to share and not want for more. For main courses we had one order of fried chicken, the catfish and the short ribs. Each dish was prepared well with the fried chicken and the short ribs standing out. The fried chicken was made up of two breasts and two thighs and was more than enough for the two women who shared it. There is a very good beer list and well made specialty cocktails. We'll definitely be back."

  • "I enjoy eating at Southern Cross Kitchen. I have been there twice for dinner but never for lunch and thought I would try it. I would never go back for lunch unless I was takig the rest of the day off. I get an hour for lunch and it took close to an hour for our lunch to come to the table. Not sure if it would have been better had I came later to lunch and not at 12:30 p.m...but I will never do that again."

  • "Very unpleasant experience overall. Food was mediocre at best. Shrimp 'n Grits - The grits was a tasteless, soupy chowder. Did not taste any goat cheese. "Jumbo shrimps" were the size of quarters. Crabby Benny without crabmeat - Was first brought out with crabmeat. Sent back and waited for 10 minutes. The yolk from one of the poached eggs had fallen off of the Benny when server arrived with the second plate. Fried Green Tomatoes (served in place of ham) was uncooked and distastefully hard. Accompanying asparaguses were tough and fibrous. Bellini - Despite the meal, the Bellini was one of the best we've ever had. The server should've given us a free drink given our extra wait time, but he didn't. Will likely never go back."

  • "We arrived a little early to enjoy a drink at the bar before dinner. We met with friends, and had a great experience with a friendly bartender whom had good knowledge and was engaging to interact with. When we were first seated at our table it was quiet, as there weren't many patrons upstairs yet, but it got energetic and lively soon after, which gave the room a different vibe. Our server described the specials with ease, and had a friendly and upbeat demeanor. Our food was perfect, everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. The owner was walking around and stopped by to ask how things were several times. She has a great presence to her, and you can tell she really enjoys seeing people having a good time and enjoying themselves."

  • "We were ready to walk out of this restaurant. We were seated promptly, but then after about 10 minutes no wait staff had come by to greet us. We were passed by waiters at least 5 times. Fried chicken sandwich and shrimp and grits were fantastic, but our service was terrible. I'd consider going back here for the food but if we got the same waitress, I'd ask to be re-seated. Also, the salad dressing on the house salad is really overpowering- too much red wine vinegar. They should try cutting it with a little more oil. Other than that our food was great. Work on your service and this could be a great little restaurant."
