Southern Art and Bourbon BarThis was our third visit toThis was our third visit to Southern Art, and was even better than previous occasions. We had spent some time at the Bourbon Bar before dinner, sampling great whiskeys and hams (heavenly combination!). Dinner was excellent. Server was friendly and professional. My wife's chopped salad was very good, and the pulled pork flatbread was great. The filet mignon was fantatastic and cooked perfectly. Pulled pork cheeks were very tasty; setup was pretty heavy on that dish, so I mostly ate the cheeks (which of course were rich themselves). With all that we were too full for dessert. Really enjoyable meal in a beautiful, eclectic atmosphere.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food and atmosphereWe loved the food and atmosphere. Everything we tried was amazing. The resturant specializes in the ham bar so you would think a vegetarian would not have too many options. That is quite the opposite, there are so many options to choose from. I would highly recommend Southern Art to anyone who want to taste different food with interesting flavors.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMHam.Bourbon.Cheese.Wine. YES!The the staff was very accommodating, highly informed about their dinner menu, the ham bar, the bourbon bar and the wine list. ALL of our selections were impeccable. Taste, value and environ make this one of our new favorites, all due to a serendipitous find. We did not sense any pretense despite the Buckhead-ian locale (which could steer some away) and there is no greater value for incredible food served in a southern-meets-European relaxed atmosphere. You must "go to there".6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe look and feel of SouthernThe look and feel of Southern Art is outstanding. Warm, beautiful and interesting, The new menu offers something for everyone and the crab cake is the BEST I have had in ATLANTA Ga. Biscuits make you ask for more. Complimentary Valet parking and underground self so perfect if weather is bad...6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyableSouthern Art was a wonderful dining experience.
The food was excellent and the wait staff was pleasant
and friendly. The Bourbon Pecan Pie was Yummmy.
Do yourself a favor and visit this delicious delight soon.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Art of Dining in the SouthIt was a great evening! Having never experienced a Ham Bar, our waiter did a great job of explaining and recommending hams to try. We chose the friend green tomatoes with Father's Ham. It was a great pair. Since the signature dish is Buttermilk fried chicken, I had to order it, and I was not disappointed. I am a Southerner and have eaten many a friend chicken, but this was the best ever. The portions are large, and everyone in our party had enough to take home and enjoy.
As far as dessert goes, my advice would be to order it. All of the desserts we ordered were great, but my Banana Pudding Pie was amazing! I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent addition to AtlantaI recently heard about the restaurant and met my cousins there on Saturday night and everything about the experience was fantastic - especially the food. Make sure you order some of the various hams and pair it with some cheeses to start - fabulous beginning. The biscuits they bring out to start are amazing. There was nothing we ordered that wasn't great!
Will definitely be back. Not terribly expensive ($125 for 2 including T&T) - which is a nice bonus.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food and drinkscraft cocktails wonderful, nice outside area and superb service5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBreathtaking! It was my mother's 60th birthday, so I wanted to take her somewhere we'd never gone before, somewhere memorable. If you never eat a thing, the place itself was just breathtaking. From the art work to the vibrant chandeliers, everything was stunning. The food was good, think upscale southern cusine. I had the Shrimp & Grits and my only complaint was for the price you don't get a lot. I was not impressed by the 12 layer red velvet. It tasted more like gummy chocolate cake to me. Other than that, we had a lovely time. We even spoke of coming back and spending the weekend in the hotel in which it was located.
Overall, this isn't a place I would come to on a regular, but more like special occasions.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food and service!Outstanding food and service! I will definitely be going back. Best fried chicken I have ever had!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible hidden gem! We've passed this place numerous times and always wondered what it was like. I'm typically not one to give much credit to restaurants inside of hotels but we finally gave it a go. What an incredible surprise. Started by Oprah Winfrey's former chef....this place is outstanding for contemporary southern fare. And they have a ham bar. Enough said. Amazing craft cocktails, super kind wait staff and just a cool vibe overall. We just went back this past Friday with a crew of 6 friends and had a ditto experience. Highyl recommended!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern Art BuckheadWonderful restaurant with a unique twist to southern fare. Upscale environment with a casual flair. We all unjoyed our meals. Highly recommend.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food but poor timing...Overall we enjoyed our time at Southern Art and Bourbon Bar. Took my adult daughters for a Mother's Day Brunch hoping to beat the Sunday crowd. The food was great. Our server was good but a little slow. A wedding party arrived during our visit and our service all but came to a standstill. I do not recommend the Catfish Reuben, but the fried chicken and tilapia were both wonderful.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingI've been here twice now and have had an outstanding experience both times. The atmosphere is lively, but not as noisy as the bar area. The ham bar rival European style hams, and the fried chicken and bourbon pecan pie are exceptional. The service is also very good, as the servers were attentive and gave excellent recommendations.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWow!The food was amazing...every bite felt like the chef had designed the food to explode with flavor! And the bourbon bar...is a must for not only bourbon lovers but for guests who want to experience bartenders that go above and beyond bartending! True artists! Especially Andrew...wonderful! This place is now one of my Atl favs!!!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMy first experience was excellentMy first experience was excellent and the Shrimp & Grits were to die for!!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful! The menu was diverseWonderful! The menu was diverse and just what we were looking for. We loved the ham bar and the food was delicious. Perhaps the best shrimp and grits I've ever tasted. We will definitely come back again.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food at Southern Art isThe food at Southern Art is amazing! I started with a hydroponic beet salad and had shrimp and grits as my entree. Both were delicious. My boyfriend ordered the chopped salad (pretty standard) and the pork shank. It was a huge serving of meat, and was perfectly cooked. The pork was tender and juicy...just right!! They also bring rosemary cheddar biscuits and pickled veggies at the beginning of the meal...delish!! We were impressed with the wine and draft beer list, as there were unique and delicious options on both. We didn't save room for dessert, but the pecan pie looked amazing. Our head server was awful, but at least the 2nd wait staff(water filler etc) did a great job. We will go back.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious. TheThe food was delicious. The fried chicken is a must try. I love the chicken and dumpling soup. The service was friendly, professional, and just outstanding.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second visitThis was our second visit to Southern Art. We brought friends who are new to the area. Our server was very pleasant, although not able to answer questions about some dishes on the menu. We ordered the shrimp and grits and the pork shank. Both were delicious as were the banana pudding pie and the red velvet cake.
We plan to go back to try the ham bar.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waiter (don't rememberOur waiter (don't remember his name) was terrific, and the food outstanding as always. The complimentary anniversary dessert was very thoughtful and delicious. A great dining experience!
MJ Wooden4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it! This was our 2ndLoved it! This was our 2nd visit. I would have given 5 stars for overall, but they were out of the Duck breast & I only found out after I had ordered it & had my heart set on it! I had the Shrimp & grits. They were very good. My husband had the fried chicken. He loved it. The food portions are quite large so unless you ar starving, dont get app, salad & entree! I had the cheese appetizer & my husband had fried green tomatoes. I had the appetizer Shimp & grits instead of the entree portion size. It was our anniversary & our waiter brought out a complimentary dessert.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThey had me at complimentaryThey had me at complimentary biscuits and pickled veggies. Not to mention, the place is beautiful!!! Vibrant art hanging, not on the walls, but on the ceiling!! Giant colorful chandeliers and oversized comfy leather chairs... upscale yet homey at the same time. And the food, oh the food... Do yourself a favor and order the pork shank. Like brisket that falls off the bone! To top it all off... 12 layer red velvet cheesecake! I died. :) The only thing to keep in mind... it's a hotel restaurant, so interesting crowd and atmosphere. There was the exhausted traveling family with small children, business meeting, date night... all in one place. Oh, and if you're into the celeb chef thing, it's Oprah's ex chef, Art Smith's restaurant! Enjoy!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, and excellentDelicious food, and excellent service from not just our waiter but from every individual, every busboy, anyone who came by. Everything we had was over the top, from the chef's special appetizer (crab dip) to cocktails to entrees (all ordered different, all good) to the desserts. Save room and don't fill up on the biscuits (which are divine), it's an experience. And please . . .don't shy away due to it being in a hotel . . . it is AMAZING. We waited way too long to try this place!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Southern Classics. Ham Bar!This was my third time to Southern Art and Bourbon Bar, and I was again impressed with the delicious take on southern classics. Starting out, the Ham Bar provides a dozen varieties of the best hams. Great to start off with a ham selection and a glass of wine or a cocktail. The main courses are generally southern classics. The menu is not large, but has one of each food group (meat, fish, chicken, pork, etc). The southern classics are well represented. The portions are very large. The fried chicken is great. The shrimp and grits is the best in the city. The pork shank is a huge cave-man like portion, and delicious. The space is nice - a high ceiling detracts from the coziness, and the space feels slightly "cold". Service is good, not great.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFried green tomatoes wereFried green tomatoes were great! Nice place to sit outside with a big patio. Great service!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous southern food. Prompt,Fabulous southern food. Prompt, courteous service. Try the ham bar!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the food choices. ServiceLove the food choices. Service is excellent. Wine List is not large but a nice selection.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMStaff was great, service wasStaff was great, service was stellar! I had left a note on the reservation that this date was for my husband, a mental break from school. Our waiter surprised us with complementary champagne once we had settled at our table! I had NO idea that would even happen. The food, every bit of it, was phenomenal. My husband will be bringing work clients to Southern Art for sure & we'll be back! There's something great about finding a new restaurant and Southern Art was hands down, the greatest find in Atlanta.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMHotel restaurants are usuallyHotel restaurants are usually low on my list, but this one is fantastic! Have the fried chicken.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding Easter BrunchWe were there for their Easter Brunch and we enjoyed it very much. Price was reasonable. The selection, although not as abundant like the Ritz's more pricey brunch, was still outstanding. Every thing we ate was delicious. The she crab soup, mac and cheese, and ham selections were particularly exceptional for items that ordinarily can seem quite ordinary. The cold seafood items -- shrimp and crab claws -- were fresh and tasty. And the desserts -- we made room for desserts -- were incredible, particularly the bourbon pecan pie! Overall, a terrific experience -- great food, great service. We plan to return.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern Art is Awesome !The hostess and waiter called us by name which is not easy to pronounce. They were extremely courteous and friendly. The Southern Art is very well appointed with lighting, art, woodwork, and furnishings. AND the food was simply outstanding. We sent our daughter and granddaughter there the next day. Don't miss Southern Art (Art Smith's has done a great job) if you are in the Buckhead area of Atlanta. It is an awesome winner!!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBusiness group enjoyed the lunchAt a business lunch for four, we all enjoyed our first dining experience at Southern Art. The biscuits and pulled pork sandwich were great! My colleagues all enjoyed their food, too. Our server was attentive, but, regretably, denied a substitution request, which seemed strange, especially since I would have been willing to pay extra. On the whole, I would definitely return again.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Meal with Wonderful DrinkAn incredible bar menu and some of the best Southern food I've eaten (outside of my grandmother's house). They start with this amazing plank of Southern Biscuits with a homemade cane syrup butter and pickled items. Then there was a fantastic selection of hams with cheese. Wonderful array of tastes for the palate. There was incredible dinner, I ate the fried chicken and was impressed. We finished off with the coconut cake for dessert and again, fantastic. Order a special drink off the bar menu or sample their bourbons. A great meal, wonderful drinks, you won't be disappointed.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time there and onlyFirst time there and only participated in group lunch for 10. Great service and food.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMI didn't know what to expectI didn't know what to expect at Southern Art, but we were very pleasantly surprised! Brunch was amazing. Will definitely go back.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the Ham Bar!The food was great, especially the ham bar. Great drinks and service as well. Our only suggestion would be to change the background music. We felt like we were at a disco with the constant, fast-paced, thump-thump-thump which felt out of place. Some jazz would have been more appropriate.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Good FoodEnjoyed our meal here very much. Everything we had was excellent.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMI found out that this restaurantI found out that this restaurant is owned by Oprah's personal chef and everything was very wonderful. I will go back in the near future and dine there again.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome...as usualAwesome food (the catfish reuben is amazing), and great service!!!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLoves it!I love this place. I was even fortunate enough to meet the owner Chef Art!!!!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern roots....I am truly a Southern gal and Southern Art and Bourbon Bar brought me back to my true roots. The food and service is exceptional. After staring up at the ceiling in awe of the chandeliers and art work, I was finally able to look at the menu and make a decision for the evening. First, let me say that the biscuits and marinated vegetables that are served once seated, will make you full. Go lightly, but it's hard. Next, try the pork shank with bourbon jus and served with braised collard greens. You will be in heaven!! This was truly one of of the best I've ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience here and will be back very, very soon to try the buttermilk fried chicken.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experience fromExcellent experience from start to finish. Although the appetizers were unreasonably small, the main entrees more than made up for it. And everything was delicious. The ambiance is romantic in a quirky way - the prints hanging on the ceiling were interesting though a bit tacky. The service was a bit slow, especially considering the restaurant was not busy and there were more than enough servers walking around, but our waiter was pleasant and helpful.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern Art is as its nameSouthern Art is as its name suggests, southern cuisine, very well prepared in a beautiful space in the Inter Continental Hotel. You can enter through the hotel lobby or from straight off Peachtree Rd. be sure to sample some of the wonderful ham selections from the "ham list". Also, the bourbon bar adjoining the restaurant is really cool.
The fried chicken is the signature dish, for good reason. They have many other good choices and a tremendous selection of side dishes and desserts.
The food is very good, the service was a little distracted the night we went, but it's worth going to see the beautiful chandeliers and art work on the ceiling.12/12/2012 12:00:00 AM
