Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent location and environment. Sophisticated yet comfortable. Food is excellent - I always over indulge. Highly recommend."

  • "My SO and I stopped in for a last minute Sunday brunch and were delighted to discover the live jazz. The food (I had a crab hash that was more crab than potatoes) and mimosas were delicious. Five days later I dinned with nine other family members. They ranged in age from 24 to 93 and a wonderful time was had by all. We sat in the private banquettes and so were able to really enjoy each other's company."

  • "John and Jesus were wonderful servers: personable and knowledgable. The food was outstanding! We had a great time and on a Monday night the place was hopping."

  • "Everything was absolutely wonderful! Kurt was a wonderful server, and every tiny detail was spot on! The food was delicious especially the charcuterie from Ham bar. I will definitely be returning with my family :)"

  • "The food was great. They need to work on the ambiance. It was a little to light in there and it's in a hotel so you feel like you are in a hotel restaurant. Make it so you don't feel like you are in a hotel and it would be spot on. The hambar was great and the food was too."

  • "My husband and I went to Southern Art on date night after seeing it featured on a local show. Being "southern foodies" we just had to give it a try. We started with the deviled eggs (good, but $10 for 4 was a bit pricey) and one selection off of the amazing HAM BAR. The ham we tried was fantastic, and worth the trip itself. The server steered us away from the chicken and dumplings (saying it was more like chicken noodle soup) but raved on the fried chicken. Chicken not seasoned well (read: it was boring) and overcooked. Mac and cheese and spoon bread were HORRIBLY BLAND. For visitors, it's okay, but for true "southern foodie" make the trip to Mary Macs, Collonade, Blue Willow, Buckners, or Greenwoods on Green Street."

  • "We were staying in the hotel and decided to eat at Southern Art due to convenience (I had spoken with them prior to tell them it was our anniversary). We were greeted with "Happy Anniversary" and given a nice table in a corner for a more romantic feel. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate, but were a little too full for dessert. Jerome, one of our waiters, graciously brought us their most well-known dessert with a candle and "Happy Anniversary" written on it with hearts and heart shaped strawberries on the side... compliments of the restaurant; he then even offered to box it to take to our room, if needed! What started out as "convenience" ended up being an evening to rave about! Thank you, Southern Art, for a memorable 20th!"

  • "I visited this restaurant while traveling on business. I had an awesome waiter, Eric, who looks like a young Barak Obama! He was very patient and professional. Eric suggested the fried chicken, which I had. I ordered it with a side of cheese grits. Everything was delicious! I would definitely return for the good service, and the chill environment."

  • "I really enjoyed this place. Though I am a lover of bourbon, the overall Experience was great. My date and I arrived at 930pm And left at 0230 when they closed. We moved from the bar to dinner And back to the bar. We never felt rushed during dinner. I had the Shrimp and Grits, my date had steak, Great staff, service and food. It was a little chilly and damp out so we didn't sit on the outside, but we are Planning to go again next week for Sunday brunch. Also the hotel validates valet parking for 3 hours for dinner. Great experience."

  • "The food was excellent. Atmosphere was wonderful. The waiter needed some help because we had to wait a lengthy time for our check and food. Otherwise, it was great!"

  • "What a great find on our recent trip to Atlanta. The rosemary biscuits and pickles were home made and delicious. They also have a great selection of hams. My husband and I were thoroughly impressed and will definitely be back."

  • "The fried chicken was the highlight of the meal. The chicken was well seasoned and smelled amazing. The sides were all very bland. The steak was just okay. The chicken and dumpling soup had no dumplings, just small bits of noodle they called "dumpling." However, our waiter was very attentive and took good care of us. Also, avoid for breakfast, which offers nothing special besides slow service and average food at a high cost."

  • "Wow, where do I begin?! I was fortunate to visit Table 52 in Chicago and was amazed at Art Smith's culinary empire! I have been waiting to try Southern Art and it was fantastic. I was particularly fascinated not only with the Bourbon bar (I'm a new fan of all things bourbon, but to walk in and see the HAM BAR!?!? Wow is all I can say. The crazy thing is...we had a least four servings of the biscuits such that we barely made it to dinner. Extreme congrats and kudus to Chef Smith and the entire staff of SA for a wonderful dining experience!"

  • "The food was decent, but limited, for Sunday brunch; however, our service was terrible."

  • "WOW!! From start to finish, our dinner was phenomenal. Must order the Ham Board with the chef's variety. We were a party of five and John, our server, was outstanding. We had the Braised Short Rib (meat falls off the bone), Bourbon Glazed Pork Shank is out of this world as is the Pecan Crusted Carolina Trout. COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF! We can't wait to return to Atlanta to dine here again."

  • "We had a group of 16 who were in from different parts of the USA for a conference. The service was excellent, food served was very good and all served hot. Everyone commented on what a nice restaurant it was and how good the service and food. Highly recommend."

  • "Enjoyed the experience. The waiter seemed less than interested but did his job well enough. Offering drinks from the bar took longer than expected I'm assuming due to the crowd at bourbon bar."

  • "We wanted a 'southern' dining experience for our first visit to Atlanta. We found Southern Art and liked the look of the menu. The décor is interesting and comfortable. We liked the service, southern-friendly paired with familiarity and ease with the food and the wine offerings. We shared the signature buttermilk fried chicken, which was yummy (we HAD to eat the skin this time). The bowl of soup was large and tasty. The only small problem was dessert. The pecan pie filling was great, but the crust was tough. We did tell the server who promised to tell the pastry chef. A small problem in an otherwise lovely meal. It was a very nice evening!"

  • "Was there two nights in a row. It has been a while since I experienced service staff that was so well informed and made everything on the menu seem too delicious to pass up. The food chosen was outstanding, as was its well-thought out presentation. The noise level from a near-by large group on the second night made it difficult to converse."

  • "We dined here last Sun for my bday..after much confusion over buffet vs brunch menu our host not our waiter made it a very memorable bday w scrumptious food & awesome service on his part! Our waiter was either overwhelmed/overworked bc he was all over the place especially when it came time to pay our bill..again the host had to come to the rescue. The jazz band was just ok, if we decide to dine here again hope they hv a different band & waiter. The happy bday song s/o by the jazz band & slice of cake was an excellent touch to help me & my girls celebrate."

  • "I read some awesome reviews on this restaurant, so my expectations were high. I had eaten in this restaurant when it was a French restaurant and the food was much better. While I love southern food the dish I ordered "short rib was tender but extremely greasy. The two side were all cooked together in the same skillet so everything was greasy. I ordered a side of cream styled corn but did not expect it to be corn in heavy cream sauce. The waiter (a east indian man middle aged with glasses never introduced him self to me...yes I was solo but should have gotten the same treatment if I was a couple or with a crowd. I had one glass of wine and dessert...total 65.00..I left very disappointed won't recommend and wont go back."

  • "I've been to Southern Art several times for lunch but this was the first time for dinner. We started with cocktails at Bourbon Bar (great selection, as you'd expect from the name) prior to heading into the restaurant. Between the four people in our group we sampled a variety of items on the menu and were very pleased with the quality, quantity and service throughout the evening. The deviled eggs and the pork shank, in particular, were outstanding. We've been to most top restaurants in Atlanta and felt Southern Art was as good, if not better, than these top restuarants. Not sure why it doesn't get the same attention as others but we will definitely go back!"

  • "Was impressed! During the last Atlanta ice storm, great service and good food, no disruption due to what was going on outside. Highly recommend."

  • "Anyplace that starts by serving Rosemary Biscuits is a keeper in my book. The food was what you would expect to find in a southern state like Atlanta. We ordered the trio of cheesy sides- grits, mac & cheese, and corn spoon bread. Although, the sides needed some seasoning- it was nothing a little salt and pepper couldn't handle. The butchers board was a little disappointing. I mostly just ate the proscuitto. The crab cake was very good and had light, crisp breading. I wish we could have stayed for dessert, but time didn't allow."

  • "The food was ok, could have been much better. Everybody in our party of 8 thought the chef was trying to do too many things with the combinations of flavors in the dishes. Southern gourmet can be a bit simpler and still exceptional."

  • "Unless you like paying 10 bucks for a bottle of water, go for tap...The food was okay -- huge portions -- but I left feeling a bit queazy. Paying 30 bucks for an entree is fine if it's good, but 30 bucks for 3 bottles of water (not even wine!) is criminal."

  • "After having a disastrous Valentines Day meal at another restaurant I was in search of a make up meal. The live band was nice, the atmosphere was upbeat and energetic and the service was great. We started our meal with one of the small plate smoked ham offerings that was very tasty paired with gourmet crackers and a spicy mustard spread. For dinner we shared the shrimp and grits followed by a desert of bourbon pecan pie, all of it satisfying our lofty and hopeful expectations. To end our meal on an even better note the restaurant (server) presented my wife with a long stem rose and thanked us for choosing to dine with them to celebrate the occasion."

  • "Great food & attentive service made for an amazing Valentine's Day! Enjoy the bourbon bar & if it's your first time do yourself a favor & order the fried chicken. The 12 layer red velvet may be the perfect dessert with that subtle cream cheese frosting. We will definitely be dining again at Southern art!"

  • "Advice to those considering, go hungry......my wife and I went for a delayed Valentine's dinner and both of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As for myself, I enjoyed the drink creations available and the service was outstanding. Food could be described as "comfort food" but for some reason I think describing as such sells it short. Definitely has a "Southern" flare (go figure) but a good variety of choices are offered and I don't think anyone will be disappointed. My wife and I plan to return......Oh yes, great place to go enjoy a drink or two at the Bourbon Bar!"

  • "Seated immediately. Great food not too expensive. Did not realize restaurant was in a hotel but the noise level was not too bad. Service was good. The ham bar was interesting but very filling if having a large meal. The salmon & the 30yr aged steak were both excellent choices & cooked exactly to order!! Sure we will return."

  • "My wife and I went for Valentines Day and we really enjoyed it. Server was very attentive. Food was good. We would definitely go again. This isn't a place to visit regularly (primarily due to the cost), but it is great for a special occasion."

  • "Staff was young, enthusiastic, but a little inexperienced. (Example: our waiter could call out a venison sausage but didn't know what 'venison' meant.) V. nice presentation on both entrees (shrimp'n'grits and a seafood dish with broth). Both were a little too salty. Really liked the atmosphere. Dining room has an uncluttered feel."

  • "Everything about this place is just right. I would recommend it for a romantic night out for two, a meal with a group, or even dinner alone. The kitchen specializes in topnotch versions of classic southern dishes. The service is professional, friendly and above all, attentive. The decor is beautiful and the room is comfortable."

  • "Excellent service and superb selection for bourbons and whiskeys. Very stylish and elegant yet eclectic decor. Food was fantastic - had the buttermilk-fried chicken which was out of this world. Very generous portions. Great ham bar as well. Would highly recommend to any friends and look forward to returning one day."
