I made reservations for brunch for
six people at 11:30 for my husband's birthday. The restaurant was empty when we arrived aside from a party of two. We were seated at a round table with a beautiful view. There was a table next to us set up for large party but there was no one there as of yet. About midway into our meal the party started to arrive for a surprise party. The people treated the room as if they rented the whole room and stood around us talking, it became very loud and we could hardly hold a conversation. When I brought this to the woman/maitre di attention, she offered to move us, but at that point we were in the middle of eating and did not want to uproot our whole party and that was the last time we saw her."

The Chilean sea bass was ehhh, I
was very disappointed. The Bonefish Grill had better Chilean sea bass. I've been to this restaurant many times before, last time over 2 years ago and it's really not what it used to be. The quality of food and service has declined. Our waiter we noticed did not give us any bread or the other customers he served. The other waiter gave all his customers warm bread. The bread is not the point obviously, it's the inconsistent quality of service. My fiancé's steak was not bad, he had the 16 oz. bone-in rib eye. I wouldn't go back to this place again. Overpriced with lackluster food and service."

I have been a regular at the South
Fin Grill for many years. This Valentine's day was special for my husband and me and we chose to spend it at South Fin. The staff did not disappoint us. The food was excellent, the staff were very friendly and engaging. We were met at the front desk with glasses of champagne and our table was ready on time. There was live music suitable for dining and we were not rushed being that it was a holiday nite. I recommend this restaurant all year long."
Dined on 2/14/2014
The food was very good- a little
expensive for Staten Island but we enjoyed everything very much. The meal starts off with cheddar chive biscuits drenched in butter - really tasty. The scallop with corn pudding entree was excellent as was the fish and chips. Service was also outstanding. The staff couldn't have been more friendly. We will definitely return to South Fin Grill."

choose Sunday brunch to celebrate
our anniversary, my husband had never been before, I had, he was very impressed with the food."

On Saturday, February 8th, I had
the pleasure of celebrating my daughter's 40th birthday sat South Fin Grill. The place is full of ambiance which I loved. The food selections were plentiful and delicious. The wine list gave more than ample choices. I especially enjoyed the Scallops with corn pudding, my daughter loved the filet mignon, my son-in-law raved about the tuna and my 8 year old grandson devoured the calamari for dinner. All in all, it was a beautiful dinner. I have already recommended the restaurant to several of my friends and believe that we will be going there again very soon."

This is one of my favorite
restaurants on Staten Island. They never disappoint."

Took my brother from Japan and the
rest of the family (some have not been here before) and all were quite impressed. As I knew they would be. The service was impeccable and the food, terrific. I would suggest going for the 11:15am one, as it was the least crowded, and the food ready to be served. Also, try to get the window tables with the beach view, you can never go wrong there. When it's nice out, the outside dining is great for the ambiance of the boardwalk."
Dined on 1/5/2014
I can honestly say that the only
thing that was good at this restaurant was/is the view. Unfortunately, you can't eat the view."
Dined on 12/18/2013
I've been going here for a
while...dinner and brunch. It has never disappointed! Whether it's with my girl, friends, or family I've always (as have they) enjoyed the food. Service also good here. Now that the golf season is over I'll be seeing ya for brunch soon. NAD"

Great Food and Great Service from
the local find. Luis, the server, was very pleasant and attentive. Whatever you need, Luis will make sure you get it. The spicy tuna rolls are uniquely prepared. Great salad wedge. Overall, a great find. Would definitely recommend to family and friends."

Went for Sunday brunch
Disappointment, but on the other hand we did not expect much to begin with."
Dined on 10/13/2013
Not what it was at the
beginning.....Food is OK. A shame really considering the location and view. They should stick to appetizers and shell fish hors d'oevres. or tapas...."
Dined on 10/6/2013
Was told they took discover card
earlier in the week. They do not. Discover is my main card and had to scramble to find another card to use."
Dined on 9/29/2013
Party of three. Great decor - ok
food. Sounded better on the menu. Blue cheese dressing was off on the iceberg salad bacon wasn't crumbled - tuna was bland - salmon and crabmeat in FILO was the best offered but still lackluster Just okay. I wouldn't return"
Dined on 9/24/2013
Service was below average. Had
better service at AppleBees. They were moving tables over our heads the entire night. Not even once did they acknowledge us or say excuse me. The ribeye had some type of olive sweet sauce. Ruined it. The waitress took a good 20 minutes to get us the check when we asked. Seriously?"
Dined on 9/15/2013
Greeted warmly by women at the
front desk. Service was excellent. Server Luis was professional, pleasant, attentive & handled the needs of my dining Party. I've been here many times and the food and service is always great."
Dined on 9/13/2013
Exceptional, exquisite, and
outstanding! Professional warm friendly staff, modern clean and comfortable atmosphere at a great location of Staten Island near the Verrazano bridge. Our server had charm, took pride in himself and provided timeless courteous manners paying attention to the small details. The food was superb, freshly prepared using best ingredients and everything I tried today was smooth tasting, complex, and delicious. Portions were plenty and 'rich' I was full at the end of meal and satisfied."
Dined on 9/5/2013
We have eaten at South Fin several
times and were always happy. We ate there on Sunday for the brunch and have to say it was not what I remembered. The pasta alfredo was dry, the sausage was dry, there was no bacon, the stuffed pork was dry, the French toast was cold even in the steamer, the omelet was OK. All in all, not happy with the food. Our server, Anthony, was very attentive and pleasant. What we paid for that brunch - it was a waste of money, sorry to say."

Seated promptly. Limited menu.
Appetizers good. Main course nothing special. Didnt stick around for Dessert."
Dined on 8/25/2013
It is beautiful on the water. DJ
on the boardwalk, dancing, dinner and drinks in the moonlight. what could be better."
Dined on 8/24/2013
everything was great however the
Sangria was not worth the price....."
Dined on 8/17/2013
A bit pricy for the portion size
and quality, but over all a great seafood resturaunt for staten island."
Dined on 8/2/2013
this was my first time to this
restaurant. I picked it as I knew it was on the beach and had passed it on many occasions. Overall the atmosphere was very good; the waiter was a little pushy I thought, but the food was very good. I told friends about the restaurant and the catering hall next to it, as they are planning a wedding. I would go back again and just enjoy the outdoor dining as I gaze at the beach and the water."
Dined on 7/28/2013
Portions are a bit small given the
price, but otherwise a solid recommendation."
Dined on 7/24/2013
We went for brunch this past
weekend and I do have to admit that I was excited when we arrived. We did not know that it was a buffet and while the food was great I thought it could have been better by offering ala carte instead....$30/pp with a complimentary drink is not bad, but it doesn't help when your gf doesn't drink and most places that are considered rather expensive for brunch are priced around $20 per entree at most... The other disappointing thing and this was more bothersome than anything was that I had to wait multiple times for my coffee to be filled after I finished it and the last time I had to switch to Splenda since there was no more brown sugar...Would I recommend..YES, but i've had better."
Dined on 7/21/2013
The food was superb. However I was
very disappointed to find out they took the barbeque ribs off the menu. It was the 4th of July for peace sake!"
Dined on 7/5/2013
Unfortunately as we pulled into
the parking lot, the valet told us that only cold plate selections were available because the restaurant had lost power about 3 1/2 hours prior...and was still without power with no estimated time of restoration. We were very disappointed because we had family from out of town and thought the beach side setting would be a perfect end to their visit. We would not, however, take a chance of eating in any restaurant that had no power for over three hours on a 100 degree day. We will try again next time. So my scores for this restaurant are based on previous visits."
Dined on 7/7/2013
Everything was great. The staff
was very attentive, especially our waitress Jeanine. We are planning on going back again very soon!"
Dined on 7/3/2013
Food always good but it lack a
little in service, starting from host, waiter, runners, and bus boy...."
Dined on 6/9/2013
The two things that boost South
Fin Grill's rating are its incredible ocean side location and its outstanding service. The earnestness of the wait staff and managers has an almost European quality. The food is good, varied and interesting, but not as spectacular as we had hoped. All in all, we had a very pleasant birthday celebration on the outside deck at sunset. Unfortunately we could not remain for desert because of a mosquito assault. Next visit will probably be to the inside. We would definitely recommend the experience!"
Dined on 6/25/2013
I made online reservations I
requested outside seating and was told the outside seating was closed for a private party and the inside seating was closed as well. However, another couple that arrived after us was seated inside with window seating and a view. Thebuffet croissants w stale. The waitress had an attitude when I told her as if you think she made them and I was insulting her personally. She showed little care to our table after that. It as an entirely overpriced brunch. I even overheard the waitress speak about me to her coworker which in my opinion is very unprofessional. I wanted to get her name and advise her boss but the entire wait staff and personnel seemed very unapproachable. Horrid SI experience."

This is a review exclusively of
Mothers' Day brunch and dinner. We had a 6pm reservation; waited 35 minutes for our table; another 30 minutes for bread/water (no plates or utensils or a waiter in sight); and we waited a total of 2.5 hours for our entrees to be served. South Fin even used part of the adjacent Vanderbilt's ballroom as part of their dining room, showing how over capacity South Fin actually was. It was difficult to take out my family's frustrations on the waitstaff as it was obvious that there were far too few employees to serve the 500+ guests at dinner. Shame on management for taking advantage of paying customers and overworking their dining room staff. Will not return (as will the diners seated next to us)"

Its extremely expensive - Cost
$400 for 3 people to have Sunday dinner with appetizers, drinks, meal and dessert. They have a nice seafood menu. Had Brunch recently (big selection and better than most brunch places on SI- which was $39 and included 1 Mimosa or 1 Bloody Mary. My father asked for another one as he didn't know it was 1 per person. The waiter should have told him a fee was involved - $6 for OJ in a champagne glass with a splash of alcohol. The kicker of all this was I don't like either drink so my dad could have had mine!! They also force you to valet. I have had things stolen before by valet personnel at other places. Food is good - I go to the restaurant but not often because i don't like the prices or parking situation."
Dined on 5/12/2013
It's not the first time I've been
there but this restaurants service is constantly less then desirable. Waited close to an hour for our food to be served, and appetizers ended up being served at the same time as main course. Drinks took a year and a day to get as well ! Tired of restaurant using big party as an excuse, hire more help or don't take additional reservations if your staff can't handle it. Final straw was when they served me a warm beer ! Beautiful restaurant, good food but really needs to figure a better way for staff to perform !"
Dined on 5/5/2013
Dinner was great! So was the
service! Great view of the ocean from our table! A great evening!"
Dined on 4/16/2013
great food great service - white
sangria was out of this world - seafood was fresh."
Dined on 4/10/2013
Went there for an Easter Brunch -
it was buffet (not a surprise). It was convenient, we had a table overlooking the lower bay, and the service was good. But the buffet is NOT up to the quality of the dinners we've had there (not a surprise)."
Dined on 3/31/2013
I've been here for dinner in the
past, which was always very good. I finally made it for brunch, and was not disappointed. Very good selection, and the price is fair. Service is always very good as well. I'm looking forward to returning for brunch with a larger crowd."
Dined on 3/17/2013
The last couple times before this
visit I have to say the food was eh. But I do feel like they are trying to make a resurgence since Sandy and they are doing a fantastic job of it. We were given a delightful amuse bouche (which never happened before) and the biscuits we were given were delicious. I'm looking forward to our next visit"
