Diner Reviews
  • "They served hard bread & butter, the calamari wasn't hot, the greens with the steak had no flavor, but the drinks were strong & that's always a plus. Despite the food I loved the performances & would keep going based on that."

  • "Food and drinks were good! Service was fast and efficient."

  • "Food- was lunch not brunch Host/ waiter- was rude and non-customer service friendly. He told us that we had too much bread and is we asked for more he would change us...what, was he taking leftover bread home or something we spent over 500 dollars and we are customers who write reviews and had at least 10 friends each ask how brunch was at SOB's (that 130 people that may not come to the establishment. At least not for Sunday Brunch) This was my second time at SOB's and I would only come for dinner or nightlife. Never again for the brunch"

  • "I've been to this place many times before, and I love it for the performances. This is the perfect venue for intimate concerts. I don't dislike the food, but It's nothing to brag about. Service is good."

  • "I went to SOBs for my birthday celebration n was pleasantly surprised. I had a great time. There was no wait time which was a plus. The food was superb. Sangria seemed a bit watered down. They seem to have one waitress n this posed a problem... The young lady tending to us had several other tables which she was catering too and in my opinion took away from her being as friendly as the waiters/waitresses in other establishments. She seemed flustered for the most part of our dining. The show was good n the after show Caribbean Fever was awesome. Music was on point."

  • "The only part i liked sort of was the band . The food was not good , the service was not good , and for the amount of money i spent there that night i should of recieved something a thousand times better !!"

  • "When looking for something special to do for Mardi Gras, knew SOBs would be the right place and it did not disappoint! The music was great, the food was good and the crowd was very festive .I'm really glad we went there!"

  • "Always has good food and the live music makes the atmosphere here. Just always so hefty with the door chair on top of the minimum for dinner and drinks. I was not aware this time that we had to meet the minimum and pay the fee for entry even though we had reservations. Otherwise great food, service and music."

  • "The food and drink is pricey. The venue got so crowded people were standing next to our table watching the stage. We had a groupon that required us to be seated before 7:30pm on a Friday that the main show started at 10pm. There was a complementary salsa dancing class open to anyone at 7:30. Needless to say, we could not stay there for so long until the real show. We left at 8:30pm. The dinner was okay, service was attentive but we will not come back if we have a choice of better dinner and show time somewhere. The restaurant could have done better to attract new customers by giving a deal out with no date and time control. Still recommend if eating with a live show on is entertaining for you."

  • "SOB's is a place to go when you want to party. They also have food. The full menu was not available on thursday night, so i was not able have what I really wanted. I had their sampler which was very bland and dry. It come with two dips to add flavor where there was none. Go for the party. Eat somewhere else. The also don't itemize the check, you only see the total."

  • "We enjoyed the show, food, first performance . Just a personal preference I don't like male musician on stage using profanity, that was my turn off, so we left as soon as we were done with our meal. Thanks"

  • "Sobs is a great place to have dinner and do some dancing. On sat Rio All Star was performing and they were great. They also had Brazilian dancers which help lead the crowd into dance and it created a fun time for all. The food was good but the menu was limited and some of the choose were not even available, so it made it hard deciding what you wanted to eat."

  • "I really enjoyed my night out at SoB's. There was an event that night and the live music and food was amazing."

  • "Good service is hard to come by these days, but I was impressed with how attentive the staff was, very friendly, and they did not miss a beat. When my glass was low getting low or my plate was empty it was like they had a alarm to notify them because they were right on time. Even when it started to get busy, they were still attentive. Nice experienced, I will be back"

  • "I loved the ambience of this place and the food was okay too. Had a great time. Elle Varner was the main event for the night and she did excellent!:) I would definitely go back."

  • "Great atmosphere to pay respects to the late great Bob Marley. Open atmosphere with comfortable dance floor in front of an ample size stage. Food was very good the server had the right vibe. If your in a hurry, your at the wrong address. Positive vibrations all around. Ill be back with more family and friends, this time was just my daughter and I."

  • "I enjoyed the atmosphere of this restaurant. Friendly staff and good food."

  • "The dance floor is very small. The Lula spears and guacamole appetizer were small and bland tasting. The feiojada entree portion was very small and the beef had a lot of fat. The food was very expensive considering the small portions."

  • "SOB is a nice spot to go for live music. We had a groupon for food and a pitcher of sangria. The band was excellent. We were dancing all night. Would recommend to my friends for sure."

  • "I went to SOBs within a two week span. In both occassions it was to see a show. Service and food was delicious. I sat in different areas both times, time in front of the restaurant and second in rhe back towards the rear exit and kitchen. We had to sit with our coats, hats, and scarf. Gloves would have been acceptable but hard to handle a fish taco with. I was really cold in that area making it uncomfortable. I felt like I was outside. Despite this I would come back. Being able to see a live show with a headline act for under $50 you can't beat it. I just won't sit in the subzero area."

  • "Went for the Bossa Nova Brunch. not our first visit. A flat price for 3 courses with several options, a good value. Servers always are willing to accomodate requests and go the extra mile. Plus, you get good Bossa Nova. Go for a relaxing and intimate brunch with your significant other!"

  • "We went to SOB for her birthday and to see the live musical performance which was great. The food was great and the ambiance for the concert was exactly what we were looking for that night. The feijoada was good but I'm not sure if it can boost the "best in NYC". The chicken in the appetizer was incredibly tender. Her shell steak was cooked just right with the yucca fries on the side. I would go back but probably not just for the food. Good experience."
    Dined on 1/21/2014
  • "This was my second time at SOBs and it was just as good as my first experience. I love the fact I can't watch a great show and eat excellent food at the same time."
    Dined on 1/20/2014
  • "All I can say is this establishment values their patrons. If the doors are supposed to open at 7:30, the doors will open at that time. The wait staff is Great and the security/ticket taker sure know how to make you feel special. Thank you for a great evening. I WILL BE BACK!"

  • "I was at SOB's recently with my wife. I was surprised that much of the seating has an obstructed view of the stage. The food was nothing special. It wasn't particularly hot when it was served either. But in spite of this we still hsd a fine evening of music and dancing at a reasonable price AND in a nice enrvironment for a couple in their 50's."

  • "Fun evening with good live entertainment. Perfect for large groups and dancing.Food was good but nothing special.Definitely a destination for the whole package deal, dinner, dancing, live performance but not for the gourmet experience."

  • "Great place to celebrate.12/30 was my 63 birthday and my wife I dinned and dance. We had so much fun we returned 12/31 and that was more fun.Being from South America this SOBs gave me an up front view of a calypso icon (Sparrow) for years I tried to see him."

  • "My first time at SOB's for the Eric Roberson holiday concert and I had a great time. Ambiance was great, drinks were great, food was great but theservice was fair. We were told that they had 250 reservations and I believe that was crazy seeing as they only had approximately 35 tables. The waiter was not attentive and our food was 52 mins late from the time the order was placed. I will definitely return in Jan for another concert plus to see if there is a better outcome of service but overall left with a smile and had a wonderful nite!"

  • "The only suggestion was that it wasn't another hour long. Great time"
    Dined on 12/28/2013
  • "While this is one of my favorite spots to catch a few of my favorite artists, I believe it's ridiculous to add an automatic service charge for a table of two. Because of that, I refuse to add any extra tip, I *only* go there when specific acts are featured, and I will only buy the minimum per-person amount."

  • "Live entertainment, good food, drinks & good service, what more could anyone ask for."

  • "This was a first time experience for my daughter and her best friend. Food and show was very good. It was a surprise that they will never forget! I enjoyed it as well!"
    Dined on 12/23/2013
  • "Let me start by saying I only had the intention of coming here for a show, I read a review online that suggested I get a table to avoid waiting for the shows to start and just standing around. I did just that, I thought to myself dinner and a show! Why not! However the "sweet plantains" were anything but. Maybe I have high expectations for being Dominican but I'm sure most people know what a sweet plantain tastes like. For the price it is not worth it, but for the rest of the show they don't make you move even once you're done eating so that sort of makes it ok. It's not a moshing kind of place anyway. I think they should get some real Brazilians to cook. Also a heads up if you're not 21 the bouncer hold your ID for the night"

  • "I love this place! Came here with friends to celebrate my 32nd birthday. As always, we had a great time with live music and flowing sangria. The food was very nicely portioned and presented. We were there for over 3 hours and had a fabulous time! Service was also wonderful. One recommendation is the passion fruit mousse for desert. Everyone in our party loved it!"

  • "I felt an immediate sense of warmth from the hostess upon entering SOBs and I love the fact that I was greeted by the sound of Bossanova music being performed by the Nanny Assis Trio. We sat near the stage and were still able to carry on a conversation as our outstanding server, Todd, filled our glasses with delicious sangria. My friend and I both started with the mixed green salad which was perfectly dressed (no droopy leaves). This is a pre-fixe brunch menu, however, my friend was able to order two starters instead of a dessert. She greatly enjoyed her shrimp and corn soup and almost licked the bowl clean! I had the grilled vegetable quesadilla which I found to be tasty and filling. I finished with the dessert empanandas. Good time"

  • "This Brazilian Music Club provides very good fare, but even better atmosphere for remembering you're alive. Everyone dances here and the staff is incredibly attentive. If you don't have a great time here, you've already got one foot in the grave."
