A word from Sotto
At Sotto, Chefs Zach and Steve deliver an honest, market-driven menu of regionally-inspired Southern Italian dishes, including fresh housemade pastas and Neapolitan pizza cooked in an artisan wood burning oven. This wood burning oven was built onsite by Neapolitan craftsmen with traditional techniques that have been passed on from generation to generation and is the first of its kind in the Los Angeles area.



Our food is complemented by a fresh, seasonally relevant cocktail program with a strong background in the classics and the utilization of lesser known Italian liqueurs. We also offer an eclectic list of boutique wines from both Italy and California.

    Chickpea appetizer was amazing, as was the burrata, and the eggplant pasta. Lots of vegetarian-friendly options and wine list was great as well. Didn't love the chocolate hazelnut dessert, but everything else was great!

    Believe the hype! The last time I had pizza this good was in Buenos Aires. Delightful Neopolitan style. Leopard-spotted char on crisp chewy crust.

    Best meal I have had in LA in years. The food was outstanding. Recommend ordering lots of dishes and sharing. Staff was very knowledgable and filled with humor. I am coming to Soto for all our special occasions.

    I don't think I've ever titled a review with a particular dish, but in this case, it was a no-brainer. And I'm certainly not the first person to point out this amazing piece of meat. It is thick, juicy, and has the most amazing flavor. It's a must have. 3 of us also had the panelle, octopus, mushrooms, lamb cheeks, pasta with lamb ragu, margherita pizza and the PORK CHOP. And some chocolate tart. Mushrooms so-so, cheeks and pasta - delicious. Others - good. Dishes are shared, so come kind of randomly to the table. Did have to ask for new plates/silverware midway. Had great wine recommendation from mostly So. Italian list. Fun place. Not in my neighborhood, so may not be back soon, but definitely worth checking out.

    This was our third time at Sotto and it may have been even more exceptional than our last two fabulous meals there. Had some very picky foodies from the Bay Area with us and they were totally impressed with every dish. Service again was friendly, relaxed, and unpretentious, as was everyone we encountered on the staff. Couldn't recommend more highly.

    Sotto was better than the first time I visited. The pizza was wonderful, and we ordered small bites. Really good small dishes. Would try and go back again in a larger group.

    Sotto has terrific food. The only downside is the noise--super loud and one loud group amplifies across the restaurant. But the food and drinks are great and the service is nice too.

    Second time at Sotto, this time for pizza and meatballs. The pizza was chewy but not saggy, the ricotta in abundant quantity, balancing the italian ham's stronger taste. The meatballs were one of the best I had especially with the gem salad it comes with. Finally, wine is probably the most interesting list at Sotto. Very small productions of very high quality. Bravo!

    Even though the food was good I will not return to the restaurant due to the noise factor. Your highest noise rating was "energetic"...I don't think so. How about just too loud? Luckily we were in the back corner so not as bad. Hard to talk with your companion when can't hear them.

    It was with great pleasure that we decided to eat at Sotto for our weekly family dinner. Food was excellent, service was good. Portion size was perfect - just enough. Homemade pasta was perfect, specifically the Mixed Greens Salad, Chitarra, Spaghetti with Spicy Octopus, Brick Pressed Chicken and Cannoli. We will return regularly.

    Been to Sotto numerous time but this experience left me disappointed and will probably not return. Burrata was tasty but over salted. Gnocchi was beyond over salted and the pasta with lamb ragu was over salted as well. What happened? Who's cooking in that kitchen now? We didn't want to send both entrees back so we each had a few bites and told to pack it up to go. Really disappointing..

    On our second visit to Sotto, the pizza still reminded me of Rome; every dish we shared was distinctive and wonderful. And the service was tremendous--Christine, our server, made outstanding suggestions, as did the wine buyer. Great cocktail list, too. Just a totally personable, pleasant place with reasonable prices.

    Sotto is always great. Always. The menu is always interesting and everything we've tried has unique and layered flavors and textures. Favorites include the bread with burrata, pork meatballs, grilled octopus, and of course, the pizza. Service is always good. Beautiful ambience. Not great for summer dining as it's great and subterranean, but certainly wouldn't complain about that. Will come back here again and again.

    We've been here before, but our last dinner was absolutely wonderful!! Seafood salad and braised octopus SO amazing! We ordered the roasted chicken and it was perfectly seasoned and moist, very impressed.

    We loved our experience at Sotto, so much so, we added it to Favrit (www.favritapp.com). We went with our kids (7 and 10), who found a pizza and a pasta they really liked (no kid mac and cheese business). We all loved the Pasta Cresciuta, a very nice appetizer. We also enjoyed the pork meatballs. I loved my pasta with chicken liver ragu! The service was great, and the place is not too loud, so you can actually have a conversation. We will definitely come back.

    you step down into Sotto, kind of like some of the great NYC Italian restos. It has a nice casual rustic feel and a menu that includes your old favorites and some new combinations you hadn't thought of before. In general the food was really good (if a bit too salty) and we had a nice combination of fish, pasta salads and their fab meatballs. There are small, medium and larger options which makes a great case for sharing. The pizzas that passed our table seem a must for the next visit. I have to mention the service which was smiley and efficient (maybe a little too quick{note to kitchen} we will definitely share your experience with friends and will return

    I was told Sotto was great, but when I finally went to try it for myself, I was extremely pleased. Great service, superb food (everything we got was delicious), yummy drinks, and a cute atmosphere. I loved the burrata and house bread, as well as the lardo and house bread. Their pizzas and pastas are delicious. Our server and the host were very attentive and friendly. Overall, a great experience and would definitely go back!

    This was our first time dining at Sotto and we're definitely going to become "regulars." We loved the space, our server was very warm and personable (and she brought out samples of two Italian wines for each of us prior to our selecting a glass - which is not typically done). Every course was interesting, delicious, and well presented. I'm looking forward to a return visit - and sampling a few more dishes from their creative and eclectic menu.

    I'd heard great things about the food & pizza at Sotto & was happy to bring our family of six for an early dinner. When there are reports that the noise level in any great restaurant like Sotto or their upstairs neighbor, Picca are very loud - we go early to eat before the level is at full volume. The pizzas & food were mostly great but the chief complaint was the portion size of the pasta dishes. We were warned that the size of the appetizers & other plates were intentionally small. But there was no such warning about the pasta dishes. We ordered 2 pastas & a child's pasta - they were all good & even if they were amongst the best in all of LA - the amount of pasta was ridiculously small. Sotto is sure to always be full - minus us!

    The food is wonderful -- and very interesting -- don't expect your usual Italian menu entrees. Or even if you think it's going to be something standard it isn't (e.g., the caponata). The wine list has many Italian wines that aren't on standard Italian restaurant wine lists. However, if you have a beer drinker among you, that person will be severely disappointed--only Peroni. Right, ONLY Peroni. C'mon people--this is California. One must serve at least one decent-tasting ale--it can even be a pale one or IPA. They go with Italian food, honest. About kids--it's not really a kid-oriented menu, but even picky children (of my acquaintance) can eat the Margarita pizza. Meanwhile you'll have really good food and wine.

    I found the food to be good but not great. I like tapas style dining if I am going for Spanish, sushi, or to a bar. $16 for a 3/4 cup of pasta frustrated me. Next time I will head upstairs to Picca.

    Sotto is an amazing jewel of a restaurant on all levels. From the friendly and professional front of the house hospitality to the knowledgeable wait staff and the food which was just superb. Sotto takes their passion for Southern Italian cuisine to the max. We snacked on chickpea panelle, shared a delicious salsiccia pizza and grilled pork meatballs. Their whole grilled oratta was the table favorite, so fresh and prepared to perfection. We loved sitting at the communal table where we watched Chef Steve and his team in action. The vibrant bar scene was made more so by the very cool 'girl' bartenders and Rory, the wine somm is simply one of the best there is. Altogether and amazing experience. Can't wait to return.

    It was the second time dining at Sotto. Both times, it was impeccable service and boh times it was Christine that waited on our table. We were very curious to taste the food since our son is staging/working in the apparent open and seemingly very clean kitchen. Honestly and not being biase in any way, we loved the chickpea panelle, the tomato braised octopus which is my favorite dish to order at any restaurant and it was delicious but I would have liked it more if it was a bit tender than it was. What else? Oh yes, the guanciale pizza.. Loved the crust as it reminded me a pizza we had in Sicilie or a town close by.     I always love this place. This time I went for an early dinner with a girlfriend, it was perfect! I would highly suggest Monday night. The restaurant wasn't as crowded as usual so we were able to visit and take our time with dinner. The food and wine were excellent!

    It's so often that I go to restaurants and I am wowed by one aspect of the experience but left underwhelmed by another aspect. Sotto was delightful. Our waiter anticipated our needs without being cloyingly ever-present or turning on a false I'm-actually-an-actor charm. The cocktails and wine were all perfectly balanced and lovely. The chickpea almond soup was outstanding. The sauce on the pizza was delicious and even the dessert was beautiful. From start to finish, it was a perfect evening.

    This was the second time I've eaten here and both times have been wonderful gastronomic experiences. They brought each dish to us one at a time which was fine because it gave us a chance to enjoy each dish and savor their flavor. Some dishes, I must admit, was a bit on the salty side, but other than that we enjoyed our meal very much. Must try are the spicy clams, lamb pork belly, and the pasta with squid ink. OMG - each bite was like a party in my mouth. Since it was my husband's bday, the waitress even threw in the hazelnut crostata on the house. So nice!

    After 4 or 5 meals at Sotto, I'm sold on the quality and inventiveness of the food and drinks but service has to match this level. There are long lapses in the delivery of courses with no explanation, water is not refilled in a timely matter and plates are not cleared as quickly as they should. I go back to the fact that their food is outstanding and the employees are personable - this helps me recommend Sotto to friends - with a caution. Very early pre theater dinner was the best in regards to timing, after 8 on weekend is worst.
