Diner Reviews
  • "Service was a disappointment. From getting seated to table serving. Seating is very close together so it's a little awkward. Food was "good" but over priced. I would definitely choose other fine Italian eateries in Atlanta. Boca Al Lupo has maybe just outshines this place so much, I was very underwhelmed with sotto sotto and was expecting much more since there is a lot of hype."

  • "Food was really good. Many entrees were new to me so I like the idea of the option to order a small amt. of more than one item. It was a bit too crowded for me."

  • "My wife and I dine here often over the past several years. I've never had a dish that wasn't excellent. This kind of consistency is rare."

  • "excellent pastas and wine list and great service. very nice neighborhood spot"

  • "This restaurant consistently offers beautifully prepared food and attentive service. The pasta and fish are superb... everything is excellent. The garden is one of the best."

  • "The location is a little hard to locate because the signage and building. If you don't know the "logo" its hard to deceipher which building it's in. Valet is on the back side of the building which makes it easy to get in and out in the small tight corners of Inman Park. Valet is complementary so a tip is necessary! Our waitress was Jenni-she was spot on until the end. She remembered why we were there at the end by honoring my guest on her retirement. We had the Bufalae e Peperoni, the Mista to begin our meal. Wonderful! My guest had 2 small pasta dishes and I had the Polletto al Limone. Perfect & the chicken was moist and tasty. Excellent wine selection and atmosphere. We arrived early it was quiet but its was loud when we left."

  • "Server was kind and knowledgable and the risotto was awesome. wine list was extensive"

  • "Antipasto for two was excellent with fine quality meats and cheeses. We had the "Priest strangler" pasta entree, the pasta was handmade and delicious, the unique sauce was excellent. My wife is 100% Italian and I am 50%, we are familiar with authentic Italian food. Soto Soto is an authentic Italian restaurant. The location and atmosphere however do not equal this high quality restaurant."

  • "Sotto Sotto is the best Italian food in Atlanta and my favorite place for a romantic evening. The scallop appetizers melt in your mouth, beet salad is bright and delicious. I've had most of the pasta dishes on the menu and there isn't a dog among them. Personal recommendations are the mushrooms and the duck ragu dishes. Doesn't matter what you order - you won't be disappointed."

  • "Sotto Sotto used to be one of my favorites. The other night, it was way off. It felt like there was no management or expeditor in the place. In the fava and pecorino dish, the fava were way too huge and utterly flavorless -- something that aught never to be used unless it is perfect (they never would've used such bad fava into a dish at, say, Daniel in New York). Waiter never asked how it was so we didn't bring it up. Next, my partner order a small risotto for primi and a small pasta for second. The waiter brought them out at the same time, so my partner had two hot plates of food in front of him at once. Huge error on the part of the staff. Ask if you're not sure. That's just common sense, guys."

  • "Pablo was our waiter. Although he refrained from introducing himself to us, he was prompt and professional. After telling us who he was, and that he was not just passing through, but there to serve us, he really shined. We tried the scallops appetizer, which was everything one could hope for. My husband had the salmon over arugula w/blk rice, wow!!! He couldn't speak. Just divine! I had the whole fish, which was wood grilled to perfection. Kudos to the Chef! My 9 year craved a Caesar salad, and yes, it was all she expected. Pablo even brought her extra cheese...we further indulged by adding the housemade pasta. Looonnngg story, short...we will be going back soon. Thanks for your recommendations Pablo!!!!"

  • "Nice italian restaurant with lovely decor, but the portions are small for the price."

  • "From the maître d' to the bartender to the waitstaff all were excellent and professional at the jobs. Although was a Friday evening in there pretty busy on Fridays the waiter suggested to come back again and visit on Monday Tuesday or Wednesday when it's a little more relaxed atmosphere. An added bonus because the area is so tight with parking they do have valet parking. It was a wonderful experience and I do intend to try it again doing a weekday."

  • "My only recommendation is to possibly add some additional guidance to the wine list for the more novice, but very interested, customer. With the entire menu listed in Italian, if you don't have a reason to already know a lot about the wines on the list or recognize the names, it's fairly difficult to navigate. This of course can be solved by a great Som but we mostly just dealt directly with our waiter who seemed new and fairly nervous in dealing with me and my date. So I guess it's one or the other, simplification / guidance within the menu or a better recommendation experience."

  • "The play ended earlier than we expected, and therefore, we got to the restaurant early. We asked if we could come in and have a drink while we waited, but were directed to the cafe next door. This was the first time we have eaten at Sotto Sotto and felt that it was rather odd to turn away customers who wanted to buy drinks at the bar. However, once the restaurant opened and we were seated, the service was quick and friendly. The food was very tasty. My husband loved his duck ragu and I enjoyed the Lasagnette all a Bolognese. The Lasagnette sauce was not your typical red sauce. The Caesar Salad was a disappointing choice. I love Caesar Salad but this one was bland. "

  • "My group dined at Sotto Sotto after the theatre on Sunday night. I had included a note on my reservation that we couldn't be certain we'd be on time, but they held our table for 6. Service was excellent, we didn't feel rushed, waiter recommendations for food and wine were on target. A very pleasant experience. We'll be back!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Soto Soto. All the staff is great but our waiter was especially wonderful. We sat outside and it got to buggy. We came inside and we were happy that our waiter could come with us. He gave us great recommendations and went above and beyond. The food was fabulous"

  • "This was our fourth time at Sotto Sotto, celebrating a graduation in our family. The bottom line is absolute perfection in every way. The mushroom risotto is a highlight, but everything on the menu is terrific. If you go, request a table outside. It's an unexpected oasis that defies the neighborhood."

  • "Food was great--the mushroom risotto, seafood risotto, and Halibut were all excellent. Service was attentive without being intrusive. It's small and a bit noisy with closely spaced tables so plan on sharing your conversation with the table next to you! There's a courtyard out back with more room but it was a bit chilly the night that we were there. Next trip I plan on reserving a table in the courtyard."

  • "This is still my favorite restaurant in all of Atlanta! We took some out of town family on a Saturday night and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious as always and our sever, Terrence, was awesome. He perfectly recommended a bottle of wine within the price point we indicated and gave us great, attentive service the entire meal. Everything we had from their pastas made in-house to the AMAZING veal chop we ordered was just spectacular. I would recommend this place to anyone in a heart beat!"

  • "Average food and average service. Nothing special and probably wouldn't go back."

  • "Sotto Sotto never disappoints with high-quality dishes and a solid selection of wines. Food highly recommended, especially the pastas. I've had great meals here on multiple visits. The only downside is that the very noisy dining room is rather packed -- your neighbors at the next table may just be inches away. As a result, it's not the most quiet or intimate for a romantic night, despite the cozy food."

  • "Sotto Sotto used to be one of the "go to" places to bring visitors for Italian in Atlanta. We hadn't been there in a while and it was a very ordinary experience at best. We were a party of 8 so I acknowledge we were a bit larger to serve but our dishes all arrived harem scarem. The salmon was over cooked. The mushroom risotto was just a thick clump, not creamy at all like risotto should be. If I wanted sticky rice I would have gone to a Chinese restaurant. Our waiter seemed a bit put out if we requested something. Too many other choices in Atlanta."

  • "Very knowledgable & approachable staff, flexible menu, incredible food. Only disappointment was dessert, but the pasta course & entree course were fantastic. Will be back."

  • "We had a graduation celebration dinner and had everything from soup to nuts! As always, it was superb in every way. The owner, Riccardo, is meticulous in delivering a wonderful dining experience - something that has been his mark of excellence since opening many years ago. He was visible in the kitchen the night we dined making sure everything was extraordinary. If you can't go to Italy for diner on a weekend, this place is as close as you can get. (That includes the bigger cities of New York and Boston - the ones with big Italian populations) Well done Riccardo - again!"

  • "Everything about Sotto Sotto was absolutely superb. Kristina was sweet, knowledgable and attentive. Our food was the best pasta either of us had ever had and the Zuppa was the perfect way to end the meal. "

  • "The food is consistently fantastic. The risotto and scallops always have the perfect texture. The servers are very knowledgeable about the Italian wines. The cocktails are quite good as well. There are only 2 down sides. 1. The chicken is nothing special. It's but bad, but had no wow factor. It hardly matters when the rest of the food is so good. 2. When the doors for the patio area is open the gnats are very annoying. Seriously had kamikaze gnats throughout the whole meal in the spring."

  • "We are devoted to Sotto Sotto as one of our favorite places to dine. Coming from the New York restaurant scene and expecting the same level of service, same quality of food preparation, and finally the outstanding quality of the menu is a treat. Molto Bene!!"

  • "I loved my salad and dessert, but the woodfired lemon chicken was neither woodfired or lemon flavored. I've had better chicken at Applebees. WIth that said, I tried my friends Risotto and it was amazing. So was my dessert. "

  • "There's a farro salad that's pretty darn good, but otherwise the salads could use a little work. But the pasta was awesome! Spaghetti del pescatore was completely delicious."

  • "Went to Sotto Sotto with high expectations having heard such good things about it. We were seated immediately which was great but after that it was all downhill . For appetizers we got the carpaccio and tuna. Was bland and tasteless.. Service was slow until the entrees when it got even slower. It took over an hour to get our meal and after complaining we were told the kitchen was struggling because of large parties. The food when it eventually came out was ok nothing wow. We got the seafood risotto the duck ragu pasta and the whole grill fish.. We got desserts on the house because of the wait but by then the whole experience had left a bad taste in our mouths"

  • "I had strong expectations due to reviews. We order rissotto and was terrible, the rice was overcooked, poor flavours . I believe they have had a problem that night. I would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "Sotto Sotto delivers again on the perfect experience in food and service. The pasta dishes are so understated and simple, just perfect. No heavy sauces, let the ingredients speak for themselves. Mushroom risotto, strozapretti, lasagnette, so light as are the desserts. Caesar dressing the best anywhere especially with anchovies! Cannot wait for them to open new restaurant in Dunwoody walking distance from our house!"

  • "Every time the wait staff walked up, I had to turn completely around just to see/hear them because of how our table was situated. Too packed and no spacing between tables, at least not where we were sat. A recommendation might be to take one less reservation and not cram that little table for 2 in between others. The food didn't have a chance with such a bad start. "

  • "We celebrated our 10th anniversary at Sotto Sotto and it was our first visit in. Our server was excellent - attentive but not overbearing, made good recommendations and the dishes he recommended were fantastic. We both had seasonal pastas - the "Tre P" and the artichoke ravioli. Both dishes were excellent and fresh - the ravioli was delicate and had lovely flavor. The meal was highly enjoyable; the only drawback was the server at the neighboring table was very chatty and incredibly loud and irritating- to the point of interrupting our conversation. Other than that, we had a great experience and will definitely go back. "

  • "The risotto lived up to being one of the top 100 dishes in Atlanta. Although it was rich (no butter I was told which is a good thing), it wasn't too heavy at all and had strong seafood flavors throughout. Perfect..."
