This was our first time at Sotto Sopra. It had great ambiance and knowledgeable staff, though a bit slow, as if they were understaffed. Given it was a Monday evening, perhaps they did not think they would be that busy. Interesting food, though I probably should have stuck to the pasta the first time out. I had the duck breast. The duck and cherry sauce was great, but the butternut lasagna was a disappointment. The blue cheese it was stuffed with over powered the squash. Though the waiter thought there would be just a hint, I had lumps of blue cheese--not good. I think even a hint is not a good choice. It needs something like nuts (hazelnuts, perhaps), mixed into the ricotta to let the squash shine through.

When our children were both in town at the same time we wanted to celebrate...never a question as to where we would go as SS is our favorite spot. We've been fans for 15 years, have hosted client dinners as well as wedding receptions there and have enjoyed several Opera nights. The food never disappoints! Best Italian restaurant in town! And the murals and huge mirrors makes it such a lovely setting. We had four different entrees including fish, pasta and meat and all were fabulous. What a lovely evening...

As we were driving home from NYC to DC, we decided to stop for dinner in Baltimore. Our "go to" had always been one of the many restaurants in Little Italy, but I was intrigued when my Open Table app listed Sotto Sopra as one of the search results, b/c it wasn't in the neighborhood we are so familiar with. I checked the menu and was very impressed by the unusual selection of dishes (from rabbit roulade to braised duck with cheddar sauce). The decor was beautiful, in keeping with the 1920's, the ambient music was low, the bar was gorgeous and tables were nicely spaced apart. There was an extensive menu and the food was beautiful to look at and delicious. The service was superb.

One of my favorite places when I am visiting the city. The food is consistently high quality and the price point is reasonable for what they offer. One dish was overcooked and was sent back, which am loathe to do, but done without too much hassle, otherwise given an excellent rating.

We always love coming to Sotto Sopra and again they did not disappoint. Everything was so enjoyable from the friendly and knowledgeable wait staff, to the tasty and well executed dishes to the ambiance. It was a Monday night so a little quiet than normal, but suited us fine that night to celebrate a birthday and we were able to talk comfortably. We have been many times including to their Opera nights and always enjoy Sotto Sopra. It is a place we like to return to time and again.

Don't put any weight behind any negative reviews. I have eaten all over the world and this experience could stand right up their against the top restaurants. The food was very very well prepared. Pricing was very fair given the quality of the ingredients. Sure it's not cheap but have you priced top shelf olive oil, buffalo mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes or prosciutto? The service was exceptional - timely, personable, and extremely knowledgeable - a bit of a surprise given the young age of our waiter. Really, what more could you want in a dining experience.

We selected Sotto Sopra because it was highly recommended by Baltimore Magazine. Our first visit, with out-of-town guests, left everyone raving about the food, the service, the relaxed, quiet atmosphere, the beautiful décor - everything was outstanding. The Super Tuscan wine was a super-star, too. We will be back!

Having not eaten here for several years I was looking forward to an experience like my previous one. I should know better. The decor is tired and the pasta, while nicely made, was finished with a salty sauce. It didn't help that my server moved me to an upcharged wine that wasn't worth the price.

Everything about this meal was perfect. The manager, Mallory, greeted us with complimentary glasses of persecco. Mussels in curry sauce were phenomenal as were the squid ink pasta and tomato risotto. Cocktails are creative and tasty as well. Impeccable service with attention to detail such as wiping down the table between courses. One of the best meals I've ever experienced.

  • Nice Spot for Business Lunch

This is a nice spot for a business lunch--you can hear one another, the ambiance is elegant but informal, and the service just right. That said, the food was unusually hit and miss. The caesar salad and an arugula salad with fennel were just right, very fresh and not overly dressed. But, the special risotto with arugula had too many bitter tones, especially with the richly flavored chicken that accompanied it. We both finished every bite of the chicken but picked at the risotto. Everything else we liked . I do recommend this restaurant.

Our party dines at Sotta Sopra regularly about once a month or every two months. The Saltimbacca was prepared differently than on other occasions and not as good as the old recipe. The sauce for the ribeye was underwhelming. There seemed to be a problem in the kitchen that night since service was unusually slow. Other dishes were generally up to previous standards.

Was I. Baltimore for business, went with four colleagues for dinner based on Open Table reviews. The food was outstanding, with great variations on traditional northern Italian cuisine. Our waiter was probably the best waiter I've had in the past several years. Great wine list and a fantastic set of deserts. Would highly recommend. Highly recommend.

This is an excellent choice for a special occasion. I had the halibut and it was perfectly cooked, and the sweetness of the gnocchi and squash purée gave it a nice contrast. My wife had the veal saltimbocca and she loved it. We agreed that the grilled octopus salad is the best we have tasted, and we have tried octopus in a variety of ways coming from the Caribbean. Our server was very attentive. In summary, great experience.

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time (again) at Sotto Sopra and were both very impressed by the dishes we were served. My girlfriend got the duck and ate it up rather quickly, while I enjoyed the Sacchetti pumpkin dish, and it was scrumptious. We both had room for dessert and enjoyed the crème bruele mightily. The restaurant also has an impeccable wine list to chose from and the service was exceptional. The one thing that kind of got to me was that early on (probably around 7pm), they decided to dim the lights considerably, which I thought was an odd choice. Of course this did not detract from the special evening we had but just wanted to point it out.

We booked our reservation at Sotto Sopra for my son's birthday. It was our first experience and we enjoyed it immensely. It's a small restaurant with a medium bar in the rear of the restaurant, but it's no one is uncomfortably close. The only issue we had was when waiters/bussers passed behind us and bumped our chairs often. The beet salad was refreshing and the mint-infused pea soup was rich and minty. We selected the halibut, pork osso bucco and the pumpkin purses. By far the osso bucco was the best meal on the table. The pumpkin purses were tender and creamy with a smattering of sauce that was totally appropriate for the dish. It is wonderful place with a lot of character and ambiance. Highly recommended.

My wife and I love Sotto Sopra. Lately it's been tough to visit them due to 2 little ones but as always the service was great, food was great, we love this restaurant. Malbec by the glass.. wow. generous pouring.. we did the tasting menu.. my main course was bit skimpy while my wife's main course was more than enough for 2 people. (She shared) But other than that.. no complaints.. we left full and we had a great time. It gets noisy when the restaurant gets full so just beware.

The restaurant was completely full on the week night we visited, apparently due to a conference at a local hotel. The additional and unexpected crowd meant that they were a little short-staffed. We waited almost 40 minutes before getting bread and cocktails. That said, the restaurant took full ownership of the situation, giving us our cocktails for free and not charging us a corkage fee for the bottle we had brought. After the initial hiccup, the food was excellent and we enjoyed everything we ate. It's the effort to go above and beyond when they know they're not at their best that makes restaurants like this stand apart from others. We would definitely come back.

We dined on a Saturday night after a baseball game. We were a party of four. We especially enjoyed the grilled octopus. One person felt it was the best he had ever eaten. The seafood and pasta were delicious and well done. The server attended us very well. There was one mishap, however. When the entrees were served, the two people in our party that ordered the fish special were not served and it was realized that the computer did not register their order. The server explained this to us, apologized several times, and quickly reordered their meals. They were delivered in a timely fashion, even though the other two diners were almost done with their entrees. All in all, a very enjoyable meal and a beautiful setting.

Bf and I wanted to try a different venue for a spontaneous Monday night dinner date, and happened upon Sotto Sopra. Monday night venues can be slim, especially if you're trying to have a unique dining experience, but we luckily found this restaurant, and couldn't be happier. Service was great, unobtrusive but available and knowledgeable with food and beverage recommendations. Menu was diverse enough to satisfy any palate and appetite. I had the lamb osso buco with basil mashed potatoes and candied carrots: lamb was tasty, not gamey, maybe slightly dry due to our dawdling with our appetizers. Bf had lobster ravioli in a butternut squash sauce: lobster was plentiful, though the sauce was sweeter than expected. We'll definitely return.

Non-existent support staff for the first part of the dining experience. After being seated with our menus, no one took a drink order or approached us for a long time. We drained our water glasses quickly and they didn't get refilled until the waiter did it. He was very busy and slow to come around but he was great once he got there. We ordered drinks, appetizer and entrees all at once since we had had plenty of time to kill with our menus. We got the appetizer well before our wine, which was unfortunate because it was a delicious grilled cheese that we really wanted to have with the wine. It got cold while we waited. The food was very very good but for the prices, the service should be outstanding.

We came in here late on a Friday, and had a wonderful meal - I got tomato risotto with scallops and shrimp and the flavor combination was great. Our waiter suggested a nice wine pairing. We tried the summer sangria with a prosciutto appetizer with fried artichoke hearts for an app - it was good too, but the main course was the best part. Service was good, it was a little slammed at first, but our waiter made it up to us with great service.

They congratulated us upon arriving and at the end of the meal, brought out a sparkler on our desserts, which were phenomenal! We dined the Sunday before labor day and it was not crowded at all, which we expected. We were seated promptly and and our waiter, David, explained the menu in detail and some of the favorite dishes suggestions based on our preferences. His, recommendations were spot on! We opted for the tasting menu and each course was better than the next. One must have, is definitely the risotto, it is to die for!. Our meats and seafood dishes were seasoned and cooked perfectly! Sotto Sopra is consistently terrific. It's cuisine is innovative and wonderfully executed. We have never had even one dish that was sub-par. During our most recent dining experience the mussels in a light curry/coconut milk/white wine broth, the whole baked bronzini and the veal agnolotti were all amazing. And there is a very approachable wine list. The service is always attentive and helpful. We highly recommend this restaurant.
