  • "We love this restaurant. It's our favorite spot. One of the best kept secrets in Baltimore. And we don't even live in Baltimore! Worth every dime. The food and service are top notch. If I had to find one thing to complain about... The tables are very small, and it feels a bit crowded when it's a busy night."

  • "Sotto Sopra has been in Mt. Vernon for 18 years and clearly hasn't lost a step. Everything we had off the menu was superb. Attentive (but not overbearing) service, great wine list, and very romantic ambiance. One of the best meals I've had in Baltimore."

  • "A standard Northern Italian menu, but done very well. Might well be the best (northern) Italian restaurant in Baltimore. Negatives are noise level (high), and crowding (tight table placements, etc.). Very good service."

  • "one of the best if not the best Italian in Baltimore. Pretty space. Very nice service. I think the food is very good but not quite at the level of the best of NYC and such, but a very enjoyable restaurant and really excellent."

  • "I would normally give Sotto Sopra 4 stars but we had a bizarre experience there recently. We had a reservation for 6 and were seated promptly. We told our waiter that we had Balto Speaker Series tickets which starts at 8. We put in our order at 6:15. Our appetizers came at about 6:30. All of a sudden I looked at my watch and saw it was 7:15 and no entrees in site. We flagged someone down and explained our situation again. Our waiter finally showed up and said that they were in "process" but the kitchen had gotten backed up with appies for a large party that was seated at 7. Really???? I don't think so. Someone lost our order plain and simple. We didn't get our entrees until 7:45. Needless to say we missed the SS."

  • "We had heard good things about this restaurant and were more than pleased with the recommendation. Food, ambiance and service were outstanding. We live in Washington DC and Sotto Sopra beats many of the restaurants we have been to in DC."

  • "The service provided was excellent. I ordered the calamari fritti appetizer, my wife, the grilled octopus. Both apps were excellent; For entrees, I ordered the fettuccini with ragu, my wife, the squid ink spaghetti. The entrees portions were adequate, but my wife did not care for the spaghetti and my fettucini was clumped together. We both shared a tiramisu dessert- and were not overly impressed as this was touted as the restaurants signature dessert. Overall, the dining experience was nice and the food was good- this just did not ring bells. I think this restaurant is good for special occasions but there are other menu choices that I would like to try to give this place a fair shot."

  • "This is an awesome place to eat. I've been here three times in the past 3 months and it's consistently good. Last night I ordered the seafood chiopino and it was amazing. Everything is about the customer. My new favorite place to dine!"

  • "Sotto Sopra is reliably good for food, good service, and a handsome interior. My husband's pasta con funghi was delicious, as was the halibut ceviche I ordered. Branzino was very tasty. We both thought a few vegetables ought to have accompanied the fish - not a lot but something to fill out the meal."

  • "Our service was excellent. Austin was an excellent server and made the experience very pleasant. The Pumpkin Sacchetti was incredible with amaretto cookie shavings that brought the dish to an entirely new level of awesomeness. Easily one of the best dishes I've ever eaten. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. They do pack the people in so it gets a little noisy but it didn't feel too crowded and wasn't overwhelming. Overall this is definitely one of the best dining experiences I've ever had and we'll definitely be back."

  • "Our waitress was very attentive and got us through a very pleasant meal in just the right time to make it to an 8 pm show without feeling rushed after arriving at 6. Chilean sea bass was very nicely done. The seafood risotto special was bursting with good seafood. The pork ossobuco is justified as a favorite on the menu - the meat melted off the bone, and the mushroom risotto paired with it very nicely. Our waitress recommended good wines by the glass to complement the food. The restaurant was filling up quickly, but the noise level was not bad thanks to a high ceiling with acoustic tiles. Our only regret was not enough time for dessert! Would definitely return. (Longer review on Trip Advisor)"

  • "This is the second time I've been in two months and both time it was fantastic!. First time was with a group of ten and everything was perfect. We had two waiters and the service was excellent. Everyone was blown away by the food. The second time was just the two of us and again the service was exceptional and the food was perfect. Their apps are amazing. The main course was cooked to perfection and superb as well as a beautiful presentation. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Baltimore or just looking for a special place to celebrate."

  • "I ordered their house made fettuccine noodles with bolognaise sauce and my husband ordered the filet steak with asparagus. I also ordered the Caesar salad which comes out looking like a basket of some sort. Very inventive. We finished with a tiramisu and cappuccino. The BEST meal of all of Baltimore, hands down. The cocktails were lovely and so was the wine. Our waiter provided TOP NOTCH service, too. Overall, I would say it is PERFECT for a beautiful, romantic evening, but I would not really suggest it for families with young or picky eaters. There is no children's menu and the suggested flatbread with mozzerela (basically a pizza without the sauce) had a very strong mint flavor (??) to it which our little guy would not eat."

  • "We have been meaning to go to Sotta Sopra for years. Are we glad we finally made it. Our children were in town and we wanted to go someplace special. It turns out we went to the right place. Everything went well. Everything the five of us ordered, from appetizers to desserts, were first rate. The service was just the right blend of friendliness and professionalism - so hard to find these days. We came away understanding why this restaurant has been so consistently rated as one of tope places to go in the city. Highly recommended!"

  • "We opted to celebrate our last night in Baltimore at a special place and this was an excellent choice. Food was excellent - we shared the Sulami plate and all agreed the tasting was wonderful. I had duck and others had the pumpkin ravioli and chicken - all were excellent choices. Pay attention to wine vintage selection as years noted are not always available and substitutions can be made. Overall a really great experience."

  • "We have been coming to Sotto Sopra for years before a show at the Hippodrome or Meyerhof and have never been disappointed. The service is wonderful and the plates are well portioned and very tasty! They feature a fresh fish and soup daily and I recommend trying the salads. Unique and delicious."

  • "We frequent Sotta Sopra but usually book ahead; the specials menu highlights seasonal tastes and the chef likes to try new presentations. Desserts are excellent. Wine list is good and the staff are attentive and friendly. We're never disappointed."

  • "Appetizers were great - especially sauteed calamari. Salads were good - Caesar presentation interesting - a little light on substance. Veal Saltimboca was wonderful - but I had to give it up to my wife because she didn't like her pasta crab entree because it was too rich. I thought it was ok - but not as good as the Saltimboca. Ambience great! We will go back. Service in the restaurant was outstanding."

  • "Visiting from Phila to celebrate my gf's b'day. Made a reservation based upon reviews I read on Zagat & OpenTable. What a dissapointment ! Made an 8:30PM reserv on Sat. night and we finally were seated at 9:10PM. No apology from the incompetent hostess staff and not even an offer to buy us a drink while we sat at the bar waiting patiently. $28 for two glasses of Proseco? Overall the food was fair. Apps were the highligh. Pasta was mushy but the sauce was tasty. Her fish was dry and bland. Despite me telling the hostess we were celebrating a b'day, not even a candle was served in the dessert. Water glasses were always empty and had to ask for the bread basket twice. Won't return to this restaurant and would tells others to avoid it as well."

  • "We are regulars at Soto Sopra before symphonies and shows. The food is outstanding, especially the in-house pasta's. They were unusually crowded because of restaurant week, but were able to accomodate us and get us on the way in time for our show. Excellent valet parking service."

  • "The food was delish, and the ambiance was wonderful! I would definately come here again, as well as tell friends about coming. While the food, and our waitress was great, one of our party was running late due to car issues. After waiting a time period for the last of our group the hostess came over abruptly and told us that we only had an hour left to eat, while we hadn't ordered food yet. This bothered myself and the others in our group, not by what she said, but the tone in which how she said it. Other than this little mishap, everything else was great."
