From the quiet, refined interior, talented chef and attentive staff, we were served a delicious 2 course price fix lunch for $15.00 each, plus fantastic homemade desserts. I am happy to say that Riccardo and Monica still have the magic. The restaurant still looks beautiful, the staff were all personable and professional, and the food was delicious. My party had a lovely shrimp crostini to start, followed by sea bass, rockfish, and pork osobucco ... all were excellent. The wine selection is also quite respectable. We got there early on a Friday -- about 6. The hostess sat us in the middle of the restaurant next to the only other table that was filled. We didn't say anything (because I knew that in an hour the whole place would be packed) but it was still odd. It was a windy, chilling night and I had to ask that the front door be closed. They accommodated, but I still had to wear my coat for awhile. Irena, our waitress was good, albeit slightly inattentive at first. But she was very nice and had some good suggestions. We go to Baltimore for Orioles games, stay at the Tremont and often eat at Sotto Sopra. The setting had the very pleasing feel of a high-ceilinged bistro. Our waiter provided excellent and attentive service, and the $15 two-course lunch menu was a perfect portion size. The soft polenta garnished with snails was excellent and delightfully creamy, not at all like most polenta served at restaurants these days. The vegetable risotto was also very well prepared, and the sorbet that accompanied the pear tart had an excellent and dense mouthfeel which complemented the pastry. I cannot wait to go back just for the Caesar Salad! My husbands Calamari was so good he was going to order it again for dessert! The menu selections are so varied that everyone can find something and every meal I've had there has been great. Service is perfection too. What a great venue. Mt. Vernon is beautiful and parking is easy but they have valet for those rare occasions if you can't find a spot. This is a special place, with a special menu, and a special team to serve you. The owner is always finding ways to give back to his staff and his community. It's the full package. And best of all, the prices were VERY reasonable for a meal and service of this quality. I was shocked at the bill when it came, but in a positive way. :-) My only con is something that the restaurant can't control... noise. It was very livey and noisy. I preffer a quieter dining experience when I eat out, but again, nothing I will hold against the restaurant. We had a slight problem when we arrived on time for our 7 PM reservation when the hostess said we couldn't be seated as the table occupants were finished, but not leaving. After some discussion we agreed to be seated at the bar as we had no idea how long the people would be. When we got to the bar we saw two unoccupied tables and were told they were reserved, one for party of 5 and one had specifically requested in their reservation. Since they were not there, we made our displeasure quietly known to the hostess who spoke with someone and then seated us at that table. Food was delicious and creative without being over-the-top. So many items we would have liked to try, but our meals were perfect. Caesar salad presentation was pretty cool. My pumpkin-filled pasta with sausage crumbles topped by a cream sauce was so good I will go back just for that. Was surprisingly light, and the portion was just right. Service was attentive without being overwhelming. Valet parking made it easy to get in and out of.
