Sotto Sopra specializes in true contemporary Italian cuisine adapting farm to table. We buy local whenever it is possible.   • "Went here for dinner on Monday night; the food was just divine. We had the Fried Polenta and Fried Calamari appetizers, Grilled Beef Tenderloin w/ asparagus and mashed potatoes, and the Pumpkin Saccheti with crumbled sausage, fine amaretti cookie crumbs, and cream sauce, and we ended with the mint and chocolate Creme Brulee and Mascarpone Cheesecake for dessert. Everything was just perfect, my pumpkin pasta was a juxtaposition of sweet and salty, just heavenly. The grilled tenderloin was cooked to a perfect medium rare, with a glaze that was tangy but light and refreshing, not overbearing like many glazes are. But be prepared to relax and enjoy your wine, as the service is slower-paced, just like dining in Italy! We adored this place."

  • "Incredibly impressed with food and entertainment. Chef very attentive to all details. Food presentation and diversity very well done. Waitress knowledgeable about different wine characteristics and helped make final selection - excellent choice; wine cost was as to be expected for a good Italian restaurant. The opera presentations were well done, with humor. This was our second trip and we are planning more. As an aside, one of the group recommended also trying Sotto Sopra during restaurant week to experience more of the menu. Though a backed up at the valet, since all were leaving, the chef came out with staff to expedite retrieval of our cars - image that! She is certainly attuned to assure nothing messes up your dining experience."

I've hosted client events, a wedding reception, attended opera nights, stopped by on a weeknight and planned special occasions. They really know how to treat their customers. This time it was a weeknight birthday celebration. The waiter steered us to the most delicious specials, exchanged a glass of wine when I realized it was sweeter than I like and clued us in to the most scrumptious crime brûlée ever. If you haven't tried SS, do so! You'll never go back to Little Italy."

  • "This was not our first time dining at Sotto Sopra, so we know it is very good but this evening the tastes were exceptionally good. We tried the prosciutto special - it lived up to its claim of being the 'Ferrari' of prosciuttos. It was accompanied with bread, dressed greens in a cheese basket and the tastes blended so wonderfully. My Pork Osso Bucco was just the right amount of rich mushroom sauce without being too heavy and fall-off-the-bone tender meat. It all worked so well with the wine that our server recommended. Desserts were delicious as well, with the Tiramisu being another exquisite blend of flavors. Service was exceptional, as well. We left feeling why did we wait so long to come back."

  • "This used to be our favorite restaurant. They're so popular now that it's affecting their service. We waited 10 minutes for our table to be ready (two parties were seated before us, as soon as they arrived), and then waited 10 minutes for the server (the hostess finally came and took our drink order). The food is very good though (although skip the espresso) and was served at a good pace, and everyone was friendly. "

There is a beautiful picture window allowing you to see the neighborhood that bustles at just the right pace. Beautiful colorful flowers bloom just outside. Overall this is a warm experience that shouldn't be missed. If you like Caesar salad, you will love the fun presentation (and it is yummy). "

  • "We were guests on Sunday, May 18, 2014, and it was a fabulous adventure. We enjoyed the food immensely, especially the Snapper and Asparagus dish. Although we are not real opera fans, the tenor and soprano were so engaging and interacted with the diners- who cared if we did not know what they were singing, they were so very enjoyable. The isles were somewhat crowded and the wait staff did their best to avoid crashing into diners- it was a little annoying- but the staff were excellent and pampered us. We especially enjoyed the requests that the singers did. I'd recommend it for a fun special occasion and it was very reasonably priced for a show and dinner. Nice job! "

  • "My husband and went for out for a much needed date night. The restaurant did not disappoint. Great food in very stylishly decorated restaurant. The only pro / con -- depends on your preference, is that is is very cramped and you are just about sitting with the people next to you. It reminded me quite a bit of the Italian restaurants in New York City -- so like I said pro and con. In one sense I think I rather have a bit more space between me and my neighbors, but on the other hand it gave the place a more urban feel to it. "

  • "I had dined at Sotto Sopra before, and my second time at the restaurant did not disappoint me. I won't use superlatives to describe the food, service, or atmosphere, because the restaurant is not breathtaking, but everything lived up to my expectations. My meat was cooked rare, just as I ordered it, for once! Service was efficient but bizarre. Our waiter seemed to be trying a little "too hard," so to speak. Clearly not an Italian native, he still decided to hum Italian arias as he set our plates down or cleared the table, and every choice we made (wine, appetizers, main courses) was either "beautiful" or "wonderful." This did nothing to detract from the good food and company, and overall I am once again more than satisfied by Sotto Sopra."
