  • "I had heard great things about this restaurant and it did not disappoint. I had mentioned in my reservation that it was for our anniversary and they were great about it. The gave us a very nice table away from the main dining area and even added a candle to our dessert! The food and service were perfect."

  • "My Husband and I were very excited to dine at Sotto- to get a Friday reservation we had to book about 3 weeks in advance. We were a bit surprised at how empty the restaurant was (only about 40% full for our entire stay). The ambiance is quite nice- definitely a more romantic spot with the half circle booths and predominately candle lighting. The (nice) surprise was that while the environment was very upscale, the staff was casual (not uppity). You don't have to get super gussied up to go out here which is nice. The pasta was awesome (and what we were most excited to try). We will likely be going back again when we need a nice date night out."

  • "Sotto is a conundrum. Like certain things, others not so much. Cons first: We waited almost 25-30 minutes for a table and had a reservation. The bartender and server agreed that there is no decent chardonnay by the glass on the menu. Other whites are lame. It is time to change up a few items on the menu. Pros: The manager personally apologized for our wait and sent over a wonderful dessert for two on the house. Very nice gesture and appreciated. The pasta stuffed with the short ribs, as always, is a wonderful dish. The other dishes are good, but maybe it is time to introduce a few new items."

  • "After 44 years living in Cincinnati, this one stands out above the rest. Every dish, the Chicken liver mousse on toast, the farro beet salad, cappellacci, cacao e pepe to the Branzino fish dish had a distinctive and unique taste like I have never experienced before. Doughnut balls with dipping sauces for desert were wonderful for 2 to share. As each dish came to the table, we were surprised. At no time did we say, that was good but it is better at… Nothing they served was the same as we have eaten elsewhere. There are many good, non-chain Italian restaurants in Cincinnati and we have enjoyed them all but his one was easily on par with some of the best places we have experienced in Florence or Venice."

  • "Service and food have been great each time I've visited Sotto. Be prepared for a very energetic atmosphere. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for anyone that may have a difficult time hearing. The staff has been attentive and they will work to accommodate needs and special requests. The wine selection is good and not overwhelming. Its definitely one of the best restaurants in the city and locally owned and operated."

  • "Everyone tells me how great this place is. We booked two months in advance. We arrived and the ambiance was neat. Dark basement dimly lit, exposed bricks and beams. The lighting was so dim we had trouble reading the menu. (I should note in out late 20's with perfect eyesight). The short rib "ravioli" everyone swore I would die for, as well as the penne vodka. The short rib taste like roast beef inside plain pasta. There was a white sauce, it taste like an unseasoned rue. The penne tomato vodka cream sauce had a bit more to it, but unfortunately also could have benefitted from some sort of seasoning. It taste like a sauce I could make at home... One I would have added something to."

  • "Three things to remember in order to enjoy the most that Sotto offers: first, order several dishes from each category and share at your table. Your server can recommend how many based on the size of your party. Second: Trust your server; he is very well-trained to describe each dish and make recommendations based on your taste. (And if you're daunted by the all-Italian wine list, just describe the type of wine you like to drink and you'll get the perfect bottle!) Third: Save room for the doughnuts! Of the Primi dishes (all house-made pastas) it would be impossible to choose a favorite. Menu items of special note when we dined at Sotto this week were the Bruschetta with Rapini, Kale Caesar, the Braised Beef "Peposo" and.....the doughnuts!"

  • "I took my parents to Sotto on a Sunday evening for their wedding anniversary & my dad's birthday. We made reservations with the intention of just trying the restaurant since we heard such great reviews from friends, but once we got there & the staff found out the special occasion, they went above & beyond to make sure my parents had the most memorable night. We ordered dessert & my dad's dessert came with a little candle on it. They didn't sing or make a big fuss which is exactly how he prefers when dining out on his birthday. They also hand wrote an anniversary card on one of their menus with staff signatures & well wishes which meant so much! The staff is nothing short of amazing & the food is authentic Italian & just incredible!"

  • "My husband and I brought our friend from North Carolina to Sotto for dinner on Sunday night and it was spectacular. We had the goat cheese and honey bruschetta, the polenta with fried egg and 3 past dishes that were out of this world. The bartender made amazing drinks, as well, and was very nice and helpful. As always, the ricotta doughnuts are what brings me back to Sotto over and over again."

The only difference between the first and second visits was the food quantity - the portions were larger on our second visit so we over-ordered and had to take some home with us. I recommend trying something from every course and splitting it between two people or among a group. I love the decor and the atmosphere and cannot wait to return."

  • "The ambiance of this place can't be beat. A bit noisy, but just gorgeous design. Completely unexpected from outside. The food was fantastic. I found a couple dishes to be a tad salty, but I'm pretty sensitive to salt; most of the party didn't find it to be too much. Expensive but not ridiculous. Five people ate happily (meaning we didn't leave and need to order pizza when we got home, which has happened at other downtown places) and had drinks for just over $200. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive and accommodating. I will definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys authentic italian."

  • "Sotto was reccomended to us by a man in the airport while on the way to Cincinnati. We took our group of 7 there to celebrate and were welcomed with amazing service, food, and atmosphere. Everything recommended by the server was incredible and truthful as to portions. I want him to be my life-coach, The large group steak was delicious and was enough for all of us to have a decent amount. The fried egg with polenta and fresh doughnuts were so amazing we ordered another of each dish. The olive oil with anchovies was also wonderful and I don't even usually like anchovies. I wish we lived in Cincinnati so that I could go back again."

  • "Had an excellent meal with spouse and a visiting friend on a rainy weeknight. We were give a small round banquette in the back so the noise was under control. The service was well-paced and non-intrusive. We shared several dishes and were provided with extra plates without question. The goat cheese and bruschetta, insalata mista, tonnarelli cacio e pepe pasta and braised beef peposo all were fresh and unique. The beef dish particularly was scrumptious and the rapini served our friend in place of polenta was memorable as well. My only nit is the prevalence of pork in many dishes. Because I do not eat pork, this really restricted the menu choices severely."

  • "We were very excited to experience Sotto after hearing all the hype around town. Since my wife and I are both foodies and have spent most of our lives in the restaurant business, this was going to be a real treat. It's loud which is fine if you want that. The food is good, don't get this opinion wrong but there are lots of other restaurants in Cincinnati offering a far better culinary experience. What we had (1 appetizer, 1 salad, 2 entrees and 1 dessert) was nothing extraordinary. For the price, we felt that a new chef is needed with some true culinary daring. A small menu like this should be spectacular. Flavors were basic and repetitious. Other than having pasta, what's Italian about it? Not impressed, won't be back."

  • "This wasn't the first time I went to Sotto for dinner. Every time I go my expectations are high and they are always exceeded. The staff is friendly, knowledgable, and make sure your experience is top notch. The bruschettas are all good but the goat cheese, honey, and walnut bruschetta is refreshing and delicious. For dinner we had the penne vodka and braised short ribs in their house made ravioli. While both are amazing the ravioli is packed full of flavored and basically melts in your mouth. The wine list is good and the deserts are a fantastic end to a wonderful dinning experience. The ambience is chic, modern, presented in a warm, comfortable pallete. All in all Sotto is one of my favorite places in Cincinnati."

  • "Each dish we shared was delicious, and the meal was unique in Cincinnati. The menu was a little intimidating (with much of it in Italian), but our server explained each dish so we knew what we were ordering. Our favorite dish was the pork, which we ordered after our server explained the dish, as we would never usually order pork. The risotto donuts are not to be missed, so make sure to save room."
