A word from Sosa Borella
Sosa Borella was established in 1995 in Tribeca. The first of two locations began as a quaint Italian-Argentinian Cafe that blossomed into a full service Restaurant, including lunch, dinner, brunch delivery service and off premise catering within two years of conception. Now, 12years later Sosa Borella expands its recipe for wholesome food, large portions and great dining atmosphere with a personal touch to the pallets of Manhattans' Theater District.

With Sosa's keen sense of design, the clean lines give Sosa Borella an inviting open airy feeling the moment you walk through the door, and yet the comfort and style of a cozy Argentinean Estancia, are seen through the white walls, exposed beams and cement color stucco on the columns, the custom made dark wood tables, the soft glow of lampshade chandeliers, wall stacked with coffee bags, wines and Argentinean memorabilia.

Diner Reviews
  • "Located just a few blocks from most theaters, this place was excellent for before an 8pm show. Food was great, service was quick, and prices were affordable."

  • "The Bartender was great the waiter was good the food was good the host was a complete idiot. He did nothing to make us feel welcome. When I asked if we could get a table upstairs he said no then said yes then bought me upstairs to show me that there was no table with my party of five in tow???? We did have a reservation so he bought us back down stairs where there were several tables that could accommodate 5 people when I asked if we could sit in the corner he refused until I was adamant we had a 5:30 reservation and were asking to be seated at 5:40 after spending nearly $200 at the bar . Probably the worst Host I have ever experienced in all my years of dining out."

  • "Really liked Sosa Borella. I went for a pre-show dinner with my adult daughter. It was also the day of one of the World Cup games. It is not a sports bar, small TVs over the bar but we picked a table so we could see it. the waiters were chatting up the game. Good service and very relaxed friendly atmosphere. We were downstairs and I liked that it had simple design, not stuffy midtown place. We spent a long time talking and we weren't rushed at all. I loved the food. Would definitely go back."

  • "I highly recommend Sosa Borella, and look forward to returning next time I'm near Times Square for a Broadway show. Very friendly, and unobtrusive wait staff who made excellent recommendations from both on & off the menu. My wife and I had the Pre-Fixe menu for $50 and enjoyed sampling each other's dinner choices."

  • "Great place to dine after a show. Easy to get to, right on 8th @ 50th."

  • "They had a limited wine list and had the audacity to charge $48 for a bottle of wine that retails for only $8.99. Charging over 5x times retail for wine is criminal. The small grilled calamari appetizer was good, but it was $18. The chicken milanese was dried out. The French Fries were OK. The roasted potatoes were terrible. It was just an overpriced restaurant with mediocre food that rips off the diners on the wine. I would never return there. The owner was nice, but I won't return to any restaurant that charges over 5x retail for wine. Skip this place."

  • "This restaurant is a gem. Doesn't fit a category, but it's quiet, comfortable, lovely argentine food (excellent grilled meats) and extremely friendly and responsive service. In the Theater District!! A real oasis from the crowds."

  • "The inner second-floor courtyard was a lovely surprise. It was perfect for my out-of-town visitors. And the food was really good."

  • "Sosa Borella has a charming ambience in the upstairs, and there is an option to eat on a small patio outside on the 2nd floor - but we were warned it would be at our own risk as birds fly over head. The mussels were fantastic, and the cocktails were nice. A good selection on the menu and the option for pre-fix. Perfect location if going out to eat before a show. Server's however did forget to bring some of our order, had to be reminded on two occassions for two different items."

  • "Love the food. Best chimmichuri...waiter just ok...last visit waiter was excellent...in reservation I mentioned birthday,. Unfortunately they didn't pass it on."

  • "Great Menu with good specials. Fries are a matter of taste but they make the best in my mind."

  • "When looking for a place for supper after theater, you just found it. Good honest italian, with fish and pasta specialties. Not fancy or pricey, just good. I will return."

  • "I have dined here for years and bring out of towers as it feels like a NYC locale rather than a tourist trap I always order mixed grill"

  • "We had a group of six and had no problem getting a table that accommodated us all and was comfortable. Great ambience and food. Best Caesar salad and the hanger steak was delicious! Recommend!!!"

  • "We found this restaurant through google "restaurants near 50th and 8th" since we had tix to a show at the Circle in the Square theater. What a find! Very good food at reasonable prices in a brasserie-type setting. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience and the convenient location"

  • "Food was all good - not spectacular but much better than you'll get in other Times Square area restaurants. Ambiance is nice - relatively quiet, enough off the more touristy areas of Times Square to avoid that kind of crowd. Price was decent - came out to about $30/person for entrees, one bottle of wine, and a few appetizers. A little more than the food is worth, but certainly what you'd expect to pay in the area. Service - this was the only downside. Everyone was very nice and accommodating but VERY slow. We probably waited at least 20 minutes just to place our order. We weren't in a rush at all, but it's still disconcerting to have no waiter contact for such long stretches. Overall - a good choice for Times Square."

  • "This was my second pre theater dinner here in two month and it didn't disappoint. The service is great and atmosphere lovely and quiet. The menu is varied and reasonably priced. Our meals of pasta and steak were perfectly prepared. Such a great find in a great location - just blocks from the theaters. "

  • "Normally Sosa Borella knocks it out of the park, but I'd never been on a Sunday evening before and maybe without the theater crowd they let things slide a little. The service was slow and the food was not up to par. I haven't given up on them, but I'll think twice about a Sunday night dinner spot."

  • "The food is very good and service, friendly and effecient. A place to go before a show, they will make sure you enjoy your meal and be on time at the presentation..."

  • "This little jewel is nestled one block west of the Broadway district. Argentinian cuisine was great. Portions were reasonable. Prices were a little on the high sided - even for the Broadway district. The staff was aware of our theater plans - though despite that, service was on the slower side. I'd recommend - but ensure you know they know you have tickets. We made our show with 15 minutes to spare - so all in all it was great."

  • "I met 2 friends on a Tues. evening at 5:30 (we had a 7pm show to see nearby). Not only was the service great, and the food and wine delicious, one waiter actually asked us if we had a 7pm show to get to. I had a great visit with my out of town friends. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We have been here several times now and the food is consistently good. This last time we shared the hot fresh mozzarella appetizer (name escaping me) which is absolutely delicious!! Wouldn't share it again, I would want it all to myself! It's slightly off the beaten path of the theater district making it more appealing to me. Service is always great. "

  • "I have had lunch and dinner at Sosa Borella on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. This time, I met someone for a glass of wine and a late lunch (2:00) and conversation. This restaurant proved to be a good choice. Nice location, small and intimate. I have also eaten on the rooftop and that was enjoyable as well."

  • "Reserved at 6 for pre-theatre group, didn't get appetizer for 45 minutes which made everyone edgy, well, except the waiter, who didn't seem to care and kept pouring. At one point, a basket of old flat bread with olive oil and something green arrived (sorrell? grass?) which seemed perfunctory. Mixed salami and cheese plate was really delicious, tasty bruschetta with grilled shrimp. Entrees arrived 710 and among us we had a range of bronzino, fettucine with shrimp, mixed grill a bit overdone, and fettucine with lamb meatballs, generally interesting. We sat upstairs and it was all hard surfaces, and very noisy-one end of party of six could not hear the other, and what with the dismissive waiter, not as enjoyable overall as we hoped. "

  • "First time at Sosa Borella, but won't be the last! Food was fabulous...the empanadas are a must have! The staff was friendly and attentive. We were heading to an 8pm show but didn't feel rushed. "

  • "loud but dependably great food and very reasonable prices. a find!"
    Dined on 4/14/2014
  • "Somewhat limited menu which seems a bit dated but good food, nicely served in a great location for pre theater dining. The roof top dining section was just opening and seems like it would a lovely place for a late evening (non-pretheater) supper."

  • "we eat in the theater district frequently but had somehow missed Sosa Borella ... excellent find ... On the higher end of what we like to spend when seeing shows, but worth it ... We'll be back"

  • "My daughters and I like to try new restaurants every time we go into the city. Sosa Borella was a very unexpected surprise. The food was amazing, the service was second to none. We will definitely be going back and recommending this to our friends and family...."

  • "Went to restaurant before theater at Studio 54. Very convenient to the area right on 8th ave. Food was very good. It is basically Italian and Argentinian. I had Salmon which was delicious, and my husband had fish, sea bass or snapper. It was very good. Both salads were good too. One criticism portions could have been slightly larger and the bread could have been replenished. There was no offer to do so but for two people they only gave us four small pieces. The bread was quite good, as was the dipping oil infused with herbs. Staff very attentive, nice bathroom too. We ate downstairs but I think you can eat upstairs too. All in all a nice place to eat before theater. Bar area looked very nice with comfi couches and nice lighting."

  • "it was very nice. nice service and menu was nice with choices. if I weren't in NYC I would say its pricey but not for NYC. we were seated upstairs and that was also nice. First floor was a bit more full of energy with the bar and all. so...I would highly suggest this restaurant to all of my friends and family. And I am kinda 'picky'. Enjoy!"

  • "Although this received 4 stars in some reviews, it doesn't even come close to that. Nice people. Understaffed. Mediocre food and service. Wouldn't go back if I had a choice,"
