A word from Sosa Borella
Sosa Borella was established in 1995 in Tribeca. The first of two locations began as a quaint Italian-Argentinian Cafe that blossomed into a full service Restaurant, including lunch, dinner, brunch delivery service and off premise catering within two years of conception. Now, 12years later Sosa Borella expands its recipe for wholesome food, large portions and great dining atmosphere with a personal touch to the pallets of Manhattans' Theater District.

With Sosa's keen sense of design, the clean lines give Sosa Borella an inviting open airy feeling the moment you walk through the door, and yet the comfort and style of a cozy Argentinean Estancia, are seen through the white walls, exposed beams and cement color stucco on the columns, the custom made dark wood tables, the soft glow of lampshade chandeliers, wall stacked with coffee bags, wines and Argentinean memorabilia.

  • "EVERYTHING WAS EXCEPTIONAL. AMAZING ARGENTINIAN WINE LIST. WE WILL BE BACK SOON. PRICES ARE MODERATE AND FOOD WAS AMAZING. A REAL FIND. GREAT PLACE TO DINE BEFORE SHOWTIME, AS WE DID."

  • "Somewhat limited menu which seems a bit dated but good food, nicely served in a great location for pre theater dining. The roof top dining section was just opening and seems like it would a lovely place for a late evening (non-pretheater) supper."

  • "it was very nice. nice service and menu was nice with choices. if I weren't in NYC I would say its pricey but not for NYC. we were seated upstairs and that was also nice. First floor was a bit more full of energy with the bar and all. so...I would highly suggest this restaurant to all of my friends and family. And I am kinda 'picky'. Enjoy!"

  • "we eat in the theater district frequently but had somehow missed Sosa Borella ... excellent find ... On the higher end of what we like to spend when seeing shows, but worth it ... We'll be back"

  • "Went to restaurant before theater at Studio 54. Very convenient to the area right on 8th ave. Food was very good. It is basically Italian and Argentinian. I had Salmon which was delicious, and my husband had fish, sea bass or snapper. It was very good. Both salads were good too. One criticism portions could have been slightly larger and the bread could have been replenished. There was no offer to do so but for two people they only gave us four small pieces. The bread was quite good, as was the dipping oil infused with herbs. Staff very attentive, nice bathroom too. We ate downstairs but I think you can eat upstairs too. All in all a nice place to eat before theater. Bar area looked very nice with comfi couches and nice lighting."

  • "My daughters and I like to try new restaurants every time we go into the city. Sosa Borella was a very unexpected surprise. The food was amazing, the service was second to none. We will definitely be going back and recommending this to our friends and family...."

  • "Although this received 4 stars in some reviews, it doesn't even come close to that. Nice people. Understaffed. Mediocre food and service. Wouldn't go back if I had a choice,"

  • "My party of 5 was seated promptly on the second level. While the food was quite good, the noise level was so high that making conversation was very difficult. The decor was limited and nothing absorbed the sound. Our waiter was attentive and we were given ample time to dine. If you don't mind noise, this is a good place to dine."

  • "Warm atmosphere, delicious food at very reasonable prices. Already recommended to a friend."

  • "Bare wood tables, cloth napkins, fine dining prices. Basically a large bar with tables. Appetizers priced quite high. Caesar salad at $19.95 is most expensive salad we've seen in a restaurant like this. Fairly small menu,, but has pasta, fish, chicken and beef choices. For the price, i would expect nicer decor and linen tablecloths. Service was fair, but food was good. Lots of better choices in the neighborhood."

  • "Although we went to dinner early, they greeted us at the door and knew of our reservation. The drink list was unique and the service was outstanding even as the place began to fill with customers. We felt as if we were the only persons there. I did not want red sauce and they accommodated my request with olive oil on my penne pasta. I did find the drinks a little pricey for a 5 p.m. meal and wish they would have had a happy hour drink, but they were unique. All is all we had a great experience for the price."

  • "We ate here before seeing Wicked in December of last year, and were pleasantly surprised with the great food and service, so we recently tried it again when seeing Motown. We had a reservation but when we arrived on time, we were not seated even though it was only 6pm and there were lots of empty tables available. The host did not explain why we could not be seated right away so we just stood around for 10 minutes and finally the bartender asked if we were being helped. He flagged down the host, who finally sat us at a nice table upstairs, which is the place to be if you want to have a conversation. The ambiance was very nice, but our service was not great and the food was just okay. We won't rush to return to this place."

  • "We had a lovely pre theater dinner this week at Sosa Borella. Nice wines by the glass and variety of entree options at very reasonable prices. I had a lovely pasta and my friend a flavorful steak. The upstairs seating area is quiet and pleasant for conversation. Best of all, steps to all the theaters. A great theater dinner option. Will definitely return."

  • "It was our first time at Sosa Borella and we were celebrating a 50th birthday. The food was excellent; the staff was attentive and very pleasant; the atmosphere was not fancy, but very comfortable. We will be back !"

  • "None of the ready-made categories in part 2 of this questionnaire seems appropriate. We have always found this to be a pleasant place to eat before or after theater. Unusual combination of attributes: Not noisy, yet not just a refuge for old people like us. Food interesting and varied, but not trendy or experimental; decidedly un-glitzy ambiance. Prices reasonable. Feels like an actual restaurant rather than a glamor center. If I lived in the neighborhood rather than in the suburbs (UWS) I'd be there a couple of times a week."

  • "Had a reservation for 7pm and a show at 8pm. We were able to have a delicious pizza and some appetizers and a few glasses of wine. Staff did a great job."

  • "The steak was tender and cooked to perfection. The empanadas are a must have. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Overall an all around great dinning experience."

  • "Great little gem amongst all the Time Square commercial restaurants. We had a great pre- theater dinner here. Service was excellent and the food was delicious."

  • "Stopped at Sosa before the theater. Got there early and was glad I did when I saw how busy it got with the pre-theater crowd! Grabbed a seat at the bar and enjoyed a great meal (caesar salad followed by linguini with salmon) and finished it off with a nice tiramisu. Can't recommend the place high enough!"

  • "Dinner for three pre-theater. 2 picked pre-fixe, but no time to finish. I ordered a crab ceviche appetizer - excellent and seafood paradilla, also quite excellent. My friends had a pasta dish w/ shrimp and was pleased and parmesan crusted chicken - also nice. Food was superb, ambience is lovely. Mojitos and sangria fit the spot. My only complaint is that the place was NOT packed and did not work hard to get us out in time for our show. I picked the restaurant was based on reviews saying they worked hard to get folks in/out for shows...not so true in my case. We went early (5:30) and did not get out of there until 10 till 7:00. We literally had to physically RUN to our show. Not what I want to be doing after a nice dinner."

  • "My husband was a half hour late for our pre-theater date here. I waited at the bar and had a fantastic cocktail. They were accommodating when he finally arrived, and sped us through our meal (in a good way--so we'd make the show). I used to eat often at their old Tribeca location and always enjoy the food here."

  • "It reminded me of a small, modest, fairly quiet restaurant you can find in New Orleans. the interior is simple, clean - not a lot of fanfare. Here, its all about the food, which I would place at the top my list of such restaurants. A real neighborhood gem, as mentioned above. If food is the #1 motivator for your choice of restaurant, you won't be disappointed."

  • "A rainy cold night in NYC and Sosa Borella is a great spot to eat and have a good glass of wine. Small and intimate and not over done just a great find in a busy city. The menu is not over done and each time we are there we find a new special that the chef has done beautifully. Great find, prices moderate."

  • "Very good food and service at this cozy little gem on 8th avenue. Loved the bread and pesto dipping sauce. Seafood is very fresh. Nice spot to relax and talk after a show. Bar was also very inviting."

  • "Second time in 6 months at Sosa Borella, we live in NJ so only come in for shows etc. We went on Valentines Evening, before a show and as expected the service was timely but not rushed. We had the special red snapper ceviche which was very good as as well as the snapper meal. Wine list is simple yet filled with good quality, especially the reds which we love. Overall the place was packed yet the service was courteous and under control. A keeper in our book"

  • "Went there for Valentine's Day, it was a onderful experience as you know this time of the year is difficult to get reservations and not feel rushed. Our servers were wonderful and while the tables were full it wasn't overcrowded. Food was delicious, overall a positive experience. My date was equally pleased. I am happy my co-worker had made the suggestion."

  • "Planning a Valentine's Day evening for my wife was easy. Pick a show she really wanted to see (Wicked), locate a hotel nearby (there are lots), and a great restaurant. I used a variety of Internet sources besides Open Table to decide on Sosa Borella, and they were consistent about great food and surprizing value. The mix of Aregntian and italian was wonderful. We started with the empanadas and tried both lamb dishes. The Argentian wine (a Malbec) went well with the food. We arrived at 5:30 PM with few people aleready there, but the place was full when we left at 6:40 PM to walk to the theatre. It was a great start to the evening."

  • "I have been to Sosa Borella a number of time but the food, service and drinks are always on point. This is truly my favorite restaurant and happy that I get to share it with my wife and family."

  • "Do yourself a favor, go to Sosa Borella after the theatre crowd has paid and fled. You'll be able to linger over the delicious food in a quiet atmosphere with attentive waiters. Pro tip: order seafood. We had a fresh, nicely dressed red snapper ceviche, the terracotta shrimp appetizer and the seafood parrillada, and it was all perfect. Great food, great service, more than just a place near the theaters."

  • "I'm a broke college kid who wanted to treat his boyfriend to an awesome Valentine's Day dinner. Sosa Borella did not disappoint. The service was incredible and the ambience romantic. The food was outstanding. We got the empanadas, the snapper special that night, the Bife alla Sosa Borella, the brownie with hazelnut gelato and the Affogatto. For $115, the meal was more than enough food and every single thing, even the complimentary bread, was out of this world delicious."
