Diner Reviews
  • "I love this place, and the service is always so friendly. from the moment you walk through the door, until you leave, you feel like you are a very special guest. My friend and I always share, because we are not big eaters, and some restaraunts make you feel like you are commiting a crime, but these people treat you very well. And we always tip, as if we ordered two dinners. I think that is important."

  • "My wife and I have been patrons of Sorrento's for a very long time. We first went for a romantic dinner, then my Company started hosting firm dinners and finally we visited for Sunday brunch. The owner, managers and waiters have always attended us well and remember our name. We recently had a child and have been limited in our restaurant outings. This past weekend we brought our 3 month old to brunch and Raul reserved a table for us in the side atrium and had a high chair ready. Everything was perfect. From the food, wait staff and even the valet attendant pulled our car out before we walked out. We highly recommend Sorrento's for date night, special events and brunch. Thank you Abbas, Raul and the rest of your team!"

  • "very good. will go back. However, we were seated outside and was noisy, not to romantic or private."

  • "Great treat since all facets of the restaurant was better than expected."

  • "Food was excellent. I went straight Italian - mussels in red sauce and pappardelle alfredo. The mussels were bigger than I expected, but the red sauce was delicious - I slopped it up with bread. The pappardelle pasta (with chicken) was very good - a few pieces were too al dente, but the alfredo sauce was creamy and delicious. One of our guests ordered the sea bass and another, the salmon special. Both looked very good. A waiter came around with a large tray of bread assortment; however, they did not have "Italian" bread. The closest was sourddough white bread which they touted as Italian bread. At least the "sour dough" bread was not as dense or as sour as normal sour dough bread. Food was hot and we were not rushed through dinner."

  • "This is a very loud restaurant. The food was okay, the service was very good. I found my food to be on the bland side."

  • "Another fabulous dining experience! One of our very favorite places for dinner, or Sunday brunch before a show. Never disappoints. Food is consistently well prepared, and the service is welcoming and polished. Serene, elegant atmosphere, enhanced by the beautiful piano music."

  • "This is our "go-to" restaurant and it never dissapoints us."

  • "Sorrento's is a favorite of ours. We can count on a fantastic dinner at a reasonable price every time. Their standard menu is loaded and the off-menu selections add a twist each visit. Highly recommended for a romantic dinner, special occasion or small group of a dozen. Downtown location and Kingwood locations are equally impressive."

  • "In a city like Houston, with a continually evolving restaurant landscape, Sorrento is an oasis. The food is consistently well prepared and presented, the service is always professional and "just the right amount" attentive, and the ambiance is warm and comfortable. The live piano music elevates the experience and provides just the right backdrop for a special evening. Highlights on the menu include the beautifully and simply prepared sea bass, the porcini crusted red snapper, and the unique and very delicious soft polenta and lump crab cake. For a special treat, try their Sunday brunch. We have celebrated many special occasions at Sorrento over the past few years, and have never been anything but delighted with our experiences."

  • "Dined with a friend who lives locally and found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. Ordered lobster bisque and stuffed mushrooms for first round and both were delicious and well-prepared. Fresh bread variety was offered and all choices were delicious. Then ordered red snapper accompanied by ricotti and asparagus and roasted chicken accompanied by garlic potatoes and broccoli. Both were ample portions and prepared perfectly and satisfied our appetites completely. Jorge was very attentive and helpful in pointing out specials as well as more detail on some of the entrees. Very delightful evening and would like to visit again when in Houston."

  • "Fig Salad, Crab Cake and Yellowfin Tuna. All impecable! The fig salad is an interesting blend of perfectly matched flavors. The crab cake sits atop a beautiful rosoto with chuncks plump and succulent crab. And the tuna perfectly seared. This is the resturaurant I use to compare all other dining expereinces to. After 10+ visits and introducing numerous other inner-looper diners to this gem, it remains top on my list. As always, Sergio provides us impecable table service; timing dishes perfectly, recommending interesting and flavorful wine and main course options."

  • "Absolutely amazing! Food, service, atmosphere, all was fantastic! The mushroom risotto on the appetizers and gnocchi were the best ever! Our server Sergio was perfect!"

  • "The food, ambiance, and service were superb. I felt like I was back in Italy, complete with Lemoncello served after dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We truly enjoyed our evening. The ambiance was perfect for couples or a foursome. Table 62 is now my favorite - you can have the view of outside yet feel apart of the inside. Never have we had our car waiting as we finished our evening when dinning. But this is how the entire evening was - you never once had to wait for something or ask for anything. They thought of our every need before we could!"

  • "Our group of four was intent on talking, so I asked for a table away from the piano -- although he was playing very softly. They agreed immediately, placing us at a great spot in the glassed in addition. Service was superb, as was the food. Becoming one of our favorite spots in Houston."

  • "We had a wonderful time on Valentine's Day for dinner. The live music really set the mood and made for a memorable evening. We both enjoyed the food. I was happy with the flavor and serving size."

  • "Hubby took me here for Valentine's Day lunch, and it was a lovely experience. We had the 3-course tasting menu, which was served at a leisurely pace. Favorite choices were the minestrone with lentils and the pressed chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. Really outstanding dessert was the little chocolate mousse souffle. The red rose presented to each lady was a nice touch. Enjoyed everything."

  • "Once again Sorrento's was truly outstanding for Valentine's Day."

  • "Dinner in the wine room was excellent, the ambiance of the enclosed room allowed for easy and quiet conversation"

  • "It was very quiet - we were the only customers in the restaurant. It was a bad weather day, so probably understandable. The prices were somewhat expensive for lunch. The waiter was helpful, but we had to look for him a few times. It was very cold where we were sitting, but once we told them, they turned on an overhead heater. Overall, it was a lovely place to visit with a friend and enjoy a meal. We did not feel rushed, but sometimes neglected."

  • "I took my wife to Sorrento for her birthday based on the reviews on Open Table. It was a great choice! The service was excellent - the waiter was around checking on us but not overbearing, our water glasses were never more than half empty, and fresh bread was offered several times before the entrees arrived. The food itself was amazing - fresh bread, fresh pasta, and everything was well seasoned. I was a little worried about the price, but the cost of our meal wasn't much different than some of the bigger chain Italian restaurants. There are much more expensive options on the menu than what we had, so meals could get quite pricey. We'll definitely be coming back here."

  • "Specials were way overpriced and the price was not shared beforehand."

  • "We had always loved Sorrento however the chef has gone off the rails. The bread basket is delicious, the music delightful and the room beautiful but they have truly gilded the lily. Truffle oil on everything-most chefs think this is very low indeed and I agree-it overwhelms the palate-I ordered the foie gras which I have loved in the past-lo and behold they added Roquefort cheese-good heavens subtle as a hammer and so rich almost inedible.. The desserts were over the top not in a good way. Sad this was a favorite-heavy hand in all when a light touch is appreciated."

  • "The food was great and Anthony's service was excellent, as usual. We like to dine here at monthly."

  • "My husband & I love Sorrento. It's a great place for a special occasion but NOT on a Saturday night. It was very busy and very loud. In addition the wait for our table was 45 min."
    Dined on 2/8/2014
  • "Fantastic experience: the best risotto we've ever had (the appetizer mushroom risotto is prepared table side in a giant grana padano wheel), a beautiful porcini-crusted snapper perfectly prepared, melt-in-your-mouth gnocchi, plus a chocolate soufflé with the consistency and flavor I'm sure the French masters would ooo and aaa for. Besides the food, the service is impeccable with an attention to detail and making you feel welcomed even when it's your first time! Only (very small) complaint would be the placement of the tables in relation to the busy thoroughfares used by the wait staff, which means that several of the 2-person tables lose a bit of their intimacy from the jostling bustle of people and trays going back and forth."

  • "I have been dining at Sorrento for many times now and I think I gave them fair enough time before posting a review. The food is great however the service from the greeters, manager/supervisor was very pretentious and sporadic. The wait staff were fabulous but the greeters, manager, and maybe supervisor(acting like one) were very snotty and comes across as being bothered and could care less when talking to certain groups of people. At their price point the group I mentioned should be able to fake it and deliver good service whether they like certain groups or not."

  • "Had dinner with my very well traveled friends who have eaten at all the best hot spots from Houston and NYC to Paris and Singapore. I have eaten at the Tripadvisor number one and two restaurants from around the country and in Barcelona and Madrid. Sorrento can stand proudly amongst the very best. Our group had the foie gras, osso bucco, Chilean Sea Bass, scallops and duck. Everything was beautifully presented and perfectly prepared. There was not a single selection for which any of us had any complaints. The ambiance is delightfully relaxing and the pianist provided background music at a volume that did not compete with your conversations. The waiters were perfect, as well - always attentive and never intrusive."

  • "Excellent customer service from the maitre' d to the server. A big draw is the ambience, the music (paino player), food, and the service. Noise level allows for conversation without screaming at one another. Overall a very nice find."

  • "First time to Sorrento Ristorante Italiano but it won't be our last. Our dinner party eats out every month trying out new restaurants. Glad we chose Sorrento. Everything was perfect. Food, service, and ambience."

  • "My favorite was the appetizer rissotto, put together at the table in a giant wheel of cheese, then drizzled in truffle oil. Everything we had we wonderful, and the service was even better. I would highly recommend. There is also a separate party room for bigger groups. It looked fun."

  • "We discovered this wonderful restaurant when we moved here 7 years ago and we fell in love with it! We celebrate all of our special occasions here. The service is beyond wonderful! They treat all guests like family. I especially love the weekends when a musician entertains you as you dine. They take requests and try to accommodate each one. My son is a pianist and for my husband's birthday, they allowed my son to play for his father as a surprise! They helped make his evening perfect! Great for small, intimate groups of 4-6 or even larger groups- they have a very nice room for 10-15. Love the food, love the staff, love the location, love the ambiance, - I just love it!"
