A word from Sorrel Urban Bistro
Born out of a vision to bring affordable farm-to-table dining to Houston, restaurateur Ray Salti created Sorrel Urban Bistro, a casually elegant and fresh design, featuring an ever-changing blackboard menu of organic, locally-grown cuisine. Sorrel represents Ray Salti's second fine-dining culinary endeavor in addition to Ray’s Grill, the highly-lauded farm-to-table concept in Fulshear, TX, 20 miles West of Houston.

In addition to a diverse menu selection featuring local organic produce, meat, sustainable fish, and wild game, Sorrel now offers a charcuterie bar with a wide variety of imported and housemade delicatessen along with artisan Texas cheeses, handcrafted breads and more.

Beverage service includes seasonally inspired cocktails, artisanal beers and diverse selection of 200 plus wines (25 percent organic.)

At Sorrel, it's about enjoying a unique culinary experience.

Diner Reviews
  • "Regardless of what I've ordered, I've never been disappointed. The lamb shank this week was amazing. I am so happy that we have this amazing restaurant in our neighborhood."

  • "We visit Sorrel at least once a month. Great food, cocktails and attentive staff. The chef and bar mixologist are both creative in their own ways to create excellent food and cocktails. Happy Hour food and drinks are resonably priced."

  • "Service is always outstanding, food is prepared well, often simply with good results. "

  • "$ ladies had lunch there and it surpassed our expectations. Great attentive but not overbearing service. The food was delicious and served in a most attractive way. I will go back again for sure."

  • "My dining experience at Sorrel was superb! The food is not only fresh and healthy, but delicious as well. The presentations are appealing and creative. The service is excellent and the ambiance is refreshing. Sorrel reminds me of a fine, fun, relaxing dining experience in the Mediterranean --- truly a sublime experience! I wholeheartedly recommend dining at Sorrel!"

  • "My friend and I ate early so it was quiet and pleasant. The decor was relaxing. We wondered why there was a large screen TV showing the cooking area? It was our first time there so the server/ waiter was very helpful. I didn't have wine or a cocktail so I cannot comment on the wine list or bar. My friend had a glass of red wine and enjoyed it. My water tasted good and I enjoyed it. The meal was excellent. Our only complaint is that the warm bread was doled out two slices at a time per person. We got tired of asking for more."

  • "This was our second visit to Sorrel. I rank it as one of many little neighborhood haunts in Houston where you can go for an evening out with your wife, date, friends and enjoy good food in a relaxed atmosphere. The menu is somewhere limited but changes frequently to reflect the finest available ingredients available. On this visit I enjoyed a filet that almost melted in your mouth and flavorful (which can be a challenge with a filet). The staff is attentive. The bar is roomy and a great place to meet for a drink even if you aren't going for dinner."

  • "The food was wonderful, the wine selection very nice, the service very good, but we were there on a night that there was a large group meeting in the bar area, which made the noise level very high. The hostess sat us as far away from the bar as was possible which helped. Had we been closer to the bar, we would not have been able to carry on a conversation."

  • "Sorrel was an incredible experience. The food was outstanding and each of my selections lead perfectly into the next course. The wine was recommended by the waiter and it was the perfect complement for each course."

  • "We felt so well attended and taken care of on our last visit to Sorrel but not overwhelmed by the service. I was not particularly impressed by Sorrel when it first opened, but it has evolved into one of my favorite restaurants - especially for special occasions when you want to be sure things go well. The food is always very good - although not spectacular. The cocktails are some of the best in town, and they have a very interesting and reasonably-priced (for a restaurant) wine list. The atmosphere is relaxed. It also is a great place to drop into for a drink and a little bar food on the way home from a long day at work."

  • "Really enjoyed lunch at Sorrel's-I had ever been there before but invited a friend to try it with me and we had a very nice experience. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. I had an Amazon Local coupon and they dealt with it promptly with no hassle/problems. It was not noticeably noisy as some restaurants can be. Very good food. Only negative was what I considered excess salt on the food-I should have asked for no added salt perhaps-but otherwise everything was great and I will go there again!"

  • "Opinion: 2 people Sat. night. Sparse crowd around 7. Food: I had the fettuccine and my wife had the chicken breast; fettuccine was good but cool, and the one small chicken breast was mediocre. The serving sizes were moderate, but given the high prices, they were inadequate. The cocktails were OK but smallish and overpriced. Service: Inattentive. We saw our waiter about three times during the meal: no water refill the entire meal and no bread ever arrived after asking (even asked a different waiter). We were never asked if we wanted wine after our cocktails (we did). After waiting to have our plates cleared and waiting for our waiter to look our way, we lost any interest in seeing the dessert menu. The crowd was thick when we left."

  • "I recently held my birthday at Sorrel during their brunch, and the experience was great! I frequently go to happy hour at the bar where Paul, the bar manager, and Hannah are beyond excellent and I thought I would give their brunch menu a try for a small group on my birthday. We were seated right away, and the mimosas were at our table within a minute of sitting down. Bailey, our waitress, was amazing and very friendly. She answered any questions we had about the menu, and was very friendly towards everyone at our table of eight. The prices were reasonable, and their menu is always changing which makes for a great variety of new menu items each week to try out."

  • "The menu was creative and fresh. Our selections were delicious and nothing seemed greasy. I did feel that everything was just slightly underseasoned and served a bit cold but the experience was great. I would go back for sure."

  • "Everyone was impressed with the ambiance and the service, especially the server's willingness to accommodate a 9-year-old's preferences (chocolate milk!), as well as his ability to quickly and accurate answer all questions. The food was superb, particularly the Chilean sea bass. Best I've ever eaten, anywhere. We'll be back!"

  • "For those out there who search for a truly unique dining experience that offers great food and personal attention look no farther than Sorrels Urban Bistro. New Executive Chef Scott Fernandez is a master at producing food that not only looks great on the plate, but has a taste and flavor unlike any experienced in quite some time. Sorrels is a place that must be on every persons list of great restaurants to try."

  • "Valentine's is always a special evening for my wife and me.... I talked our daughter in to giving up a romantic evening with our new son-in-law and double dating with us. We arrive promptly at a restaurant none of us knew. There were candles and flowers on the tables and each was full of enthusiastic diners, giving a great first impression. The maître d' was very friendly and smoothly escorted us to a bustling bar where we actually spent about an hour and a half before we got to our dinner, but who cared. Cocktails were great and lots of great cheeses on the house. The service was great top to bottom. The food was very good, if not great (actually only the desert missed the mark) but overall a great time was had by all."

  • "Everything was very good but maybe somewhat overpriced. Steak was $42! On other hand, it was paleo quality! We also wanted red wine but it was too warm, just like most Houston restaurants."

  • "We will never go back to this restaurant after having waited 1:45 for a table - and we had a reservation! We sat at the bar for 1:45 min, we checked 3 times, and the waitress at the bar even checked on our table, and not once did anyone ever come over to us and apologize for the wait or let us know our table was ready. We were ready to leave and on our way out the door we noticed several open tables - and were finally seated. The food was fine (but cold) and they only had one vegetarian option. So many better restaurant options in Houston - would not recommend this place."

  • "Following an initial visit to Sorrel that had been quite favorable I returned on February 15 with my wife and we tried the 5-course "innovations" menu with wine pairing. It was hugely disappointing, not one of the food courses that would rate above passable. The wine pairings ranged between awful and acceptable. The server helpfully explained that the port wine that accompanied the dessert (that was basically a piece of cake) came from Portugal. Won't be going back, and these guys won't be in business long if they don't step up their game (particularly considering the five-star prices being charged)."

  • "My husband and I went to Sorrel for a celebration dinner. First, the valet guys were horrible. A waiter came by asking for our car keys, to which we replied that we left them with the valet. Then we see the lights going off and on in our car...very strange. Seems the valet guys had some keys mixed up and were trying to figure it out. The whole restaurant was loud - do not go here if you want to actually have a conversation. Next, I ordered a chicken dish, and was told it was sold out. Now this was a regular dish on the menu - sold out at 7:30 pm. on a Sat night - very strange! Our meals were okay-nothing special. Our waiter did not know the menu very well, and we were not asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. We won't be going back."

  • "This was a charming neighborhood place with very good service, but not not much on food choices. The menu was supposedly freshly prepared daily, but very limited and portions were very small for the elevated price. I made a request for a "quiet romantic area" for my wifes birthday and got seated right in front of the kitchen on an elevated table yet? Overall I thought the environment was nice and the service was very friendly and helpful. I would go back only for special occasions and not for a regular dining environment. I feel the food protions need to be reviewed as well as the "game hen" consists of one leg only abd when serving the bread, they give you literally one slice of a small roll? So have a snack before you go. Thanks"

  • "Original, inventive food and welcoming, lively atmosphere make this one of the finest places in town to eat. The tasting menu paired with wines yields the maximum experience, as the perfectly balanced foods and wines start off great and just get better and better. The exhibition kitchen and the camera placed so you can see what's going on in the kitchen makes you feel like an insider. Wonderful!"

  • "Food was excellent, including both the quality and selection. The quantity of food was just write, esp. for the corporate lunch. I would definitely go back for lunch. However, I'd be interested to see what this place looks like for dinner. The layout of the place is very open. The free private parking lot (compared to valet only at other places in the area) is a definite plus."

  • "Fun dinner with friends at Sorrel - the scallops were delicious! My husband and I both had the lamb which was very flavorful but we agreed it was difficult to get at the meat. Lovely fresh menu full of local offerings and nice wine list. My friend ordered the hummus which was huge and looked amazing. Service was spot on - great atmosphere for a casual night out with the added bonus of easy parking. Looking forward to trying it for lunch."

  • "We have enjoyed most of our meals at Sorrel. I like the way they use local and fresh foods. Occasionally a meal will miss the mark, but typically it is one of our favorite places to go. We went for brunch with the family last spring, including a 4 year old, and they were very accommodating, and the food was delicious. Usually we go for dinner, and almost always it is excellent!"
