A word from Sorrel Urban Bistro
Born out of a vision to bring affordable farm-to-table dining to Houston, restaurateur Ray Salti created Sorrel Urban Bistro, a casually elegant and fresh design, featuring an ever-changing blackboard menu of organic, locally-grown cuisine. Sorrel represents Ray Salti's second fine-dining culinary endeavor in addition to Ray’s Grill, the highly-lauded farm-to-table concept in Fulshear, TX, 20 miles West of Houston.

In addition to a diverse menu selection featuring local organic produce, meat, sustainable fish, and wild game, Sorrel now offers a charcuterie bar with a wide variety of imported and housemade delicatessen along with artisan Texas cheeses, handcrafted breads and more.

Beverage service includes seasonally inspired cocktails, artisanal beers and diverse selection of 200 plus wines (25 percent organic.)

At Sorrel, it's about enjoying a unique culinary experience.

Diner Reviews
  • "I ate there with my significant other on Saturday July 19th. I found the food so-so for the price and the wine list was pricey. Service was not very attentive. There are many bistro's like this in town that are better. Also didn't like that I had to valet park when they have a large parking lot."

  • "Great Restaurant and not far from where we live! I'm a Vegan and they always do something special for my particular needs and the food is delicious!"

  • "They spilt a whole glass of wine all over my friend and no one ever apologized or offered to take something off the ticket."

  • "This is a neighborhood restaurant that has had to send and give coupons for dinner. We have been going to this restaurant for a few years but have to say the dishes are not very inspired and sometimes just plain bland as was my pork loin and my wife's fish."

  • "I have eaten brunch, lunch, and dinner here, and each meal has been excellent. This time I had lunch--a delicious daily salad with an added piece of grilled salmon. You can't go wrong having a meal at Sorrel!"

  • "Dined with friends and offered a bar-height table overlooking the kitchen. Glad we said yes, as we were able to get a good look at several dishes before they went out. We were impressed with the chef's attention to detail. Noise level was a bit high, though. The Lebanese Trio app (hummus, baba ganoush, tabouleh) was so good that one of us ordered it again for her main course! They ran out of the vegetarian dish, but My Hoisin Glazed Pork and Spicy Canton Noodle dish was excellent with nice heat (mild-to-moderate). Service was excellent, with waters frequently refilled and dishes served with proper timing and etiquette. Chocolate cake for dessert was poor/fair - find something else if you're a big dessert fan. Wife's coffee was good."

  • "If you're looking for a semi-casual, hip yet fine dining experience, Sorrel Urban Bistro on West Alabama is a great choice. We've been there a handful of times and found their food to be inventive and consistent in quality and flavor. It offers an eclectic mix of American, French, Italian and even Lebanese-inspired dishes. From the lamb-lollipops to the stuffed tomatoes, you know you're getting something original at Sorrels. They also have a nice happy hour of specialty cocktails and well drinks. Last night I have the glazed double pork chop with sears scallops and roasted potatoes and veggies. Deeeelish!"

  • "Great owner, fine food, a few details need to be refined: a bisque was grainy, and a steak was overcooked on one visit, but things have improved since then."

  • "We've been to Sorrell several times for brunch and each time have been impressed. We like that it's low-key but great food. The staff is always nice and helpful. The menu changes so you get to try different, seasonal items. You won't be bored...oh, and did I mention 99 cent Mimosas?"

  • "We shared three things and all were quite good: flatbread, quail, and hallibut. Had a good waiter. The price of the wine is more than it should be however. It was 1 1/2 times the cost for a glass of a bottle of many the wines on the list. I just could not see ordering it."

  • "Appetizer good, all 3 entrees we tried were terrible"

  • "They are so good at making sure I can find something to eat and it's always very good. I love the Power Lunch and they even let me switch things around to make my own version. One thing to note is that since things changes so often you need to ask about ingredients each time you go."

  • "Had the brisket steak and eggs. The brisket had a great flavor, unfortunately, it was basically ALL fat. There were multiple chunks of brisket, and I'd say 6/7 of the chunks mostly consisted of fat. Again, a great flavor, but I would've appreciated more meat. My boyfriend got the lobster benedict which was also mediocre - not the best flavor, and a rather small portion. However, we loved the food our friends ordered - the chicken quesadillas and biscuits and gravy were fabulous. We were definitely outordered! The 99 cent mimosas were delicious as well."

  • "Found Sorrell on GroupOn and decided to try it. Had driven by this restaurant a multitude of time but there was nothing particularly descript about it so hadn't considered going there. Thank goodness for GroupOn! So glad we went. The food was exceptional and in just the right portion sizes. It's right around the corner from us, so couldn't have been more convenient. Has an uncluttered interior with clean lines (in terms of design) and great ambience. And as if all that wasn't enough, the service was outstanding. Definitely planning on going back."

  • "Enjoyed the lamb pop appetizer. But the rest of the meal was reliant on too much fat (butter, oil, and fat not rendered or seared off) good but not great..."

  • " Service was absolutely excellent.👍The menu was expansive. Food was simply delicious. Portion size ideal.☺️ Amazing restaurant. Will definitely return."

  • "Took my husband here for Father's Day Brunch. Service was great and accommodating- they willingly made off the menu items for my young son who is a picky eater. Food was also great, I will definitely be going back!"

  • "At our last visit, the food was still outstanding with fresh and innovative ingredients. However, the service was frankly disappointing, especially considering the amount of money we spent, and it really diminished the enjoyment of the experience. Examples: (1) even though restaurant was at most 1/3 full, we were given a terrible 2-top table right by the front door and host stand; (2) when we asked to change, we were given only a marginally better 4-top right next to it; (3) bread was not offered until asked for; (4) water was not refilled until asked for; (5) our dishes were not brought out together; etc. The quality of service has been declining here, so I think this place gets only one more chance with me (at most)."

  • "Very good food and good service. My only complaint (and I have raised this before) was the lack of prices on the cocktail menu. When we got our check we were surprised that one of the cocktails was priced considerably higher than the rest, without having been disclosed on the menu. I asked our server about this and he said that they did not list prices on the cocktail menu because if people asked for the price they probably could not afford it. Quite candidly, this explanation was offensive. There is no reason why cocktail prices should not be listed just as wine prices are listed."

  • "Not very good, especially for how expensive it is. Also they were out of almost everything on the menu."

  • "I'm a vegetarian, so it's hard to find an upscale restaurant that suits my needs and my husbands (not a vegetarian at all). The risotto hit the spot - it was fantastic! He loved the lamp lollipops, too. We were given complimentary champagne & sorbet since we indicated on Open Table that it was our anniversary. The service was fantastic and we also enjoyed their awesome happy hour at the bar before dinner, too. We already have plans to go back for lunch!"

  • "I love the food at Sorrel, but I'm s out to never go back due to 2 things. They have got to fix the air conditioning. It's miserable to sit in there and sweat, literally sweat. Secondly, the service is slow so don't be in any kind of hurry...even the bottle of wine took about 20 minutes. I keep going back because of the delicious food. There are too many fabulous restaurants in Houston to suffer through the warm environment at Sorrel and it's never a quick meal. No sweater needed, ever. "

  • "We always enjoy Sorrel. The ceaser salad was different and very good. The scallops and red snapper were also very good "

  • "We took a friend here for dinner who just moved to Houston. It was a great place to showcase the city's culinary prowess. The hummus is a great starter. The drinks are delicious (and strong!). We had great fish (snapper), but our favorite dish was the burger. It's rich and filling and delicious."

  • "I went with two other people for a "special night out" dinner. We decided to order "tapas" style rather than each getting the traditional appetizer plus entrée. We ordered several small plates, several appetizers, one entrée, and of course three desserts. We loved grazing that way. It was a great way to sample a lot of different things without feeling stuffed. Everything that we tasted was delicious and the presentation was lovely as well. We shared a reasonably-priced bottle of wine and left feeling like we'd had a lovely evening and will definitely come back. "

  • "Two of us had lunch here on a slow day with only 3 or 4 tables occupied. The waitress was slow to serve, forgot to return with several items when asked and had no familiarity at all with the with the menu. The food was of good quality but unexceptional in composition or taste. This is one of those places that is over-priced with nothing to differentiate it. I won't be back."

  • "The service was excellent, there are great choices for light eaters as well as those that want a hearty meal. Healthy choices, excellent staff. "

  • "This our third visit to this restaurant over the past year. We found the menu delightful and the service excellent. My husband had the duck which he thought excellent and I had the prosciutto wrapped Halibut which was delicious. Other notables were the Ceviche tacos and Ahi tuna appetizers. All in all it was a lovely dinner for my family. We'll be back!"

  • "We loved the fact that the menu changes everyday. There were many unusual choices, not just typical! Our wait staff seemed very knowledgeable about the wines as well as the food preparation and was very friendly without overdoing it! Will definitely return!"

  • "I love this easy, laid back bistro on West Alabama. The ambiance is low-key and relaxing, and the wait staff aims to please. We enjoyed the red snapper, which was perfectly prepared, and they accommodated gluten and dairy allergies. The restaurant was a bit bright and the action in the kitchen a bit too obvious for an evening meal -- I feel like this is a great spot for brunch or lunch, but we still very much enjoyed our experience. "

  • "After spending the weekend with family the medical center, this was the perfect escape for a good dinner at a quaint, yet trendy little spot. Had no idea it would be such a nice spot. Great sidewalk dining. "

  • "Sorrel is one of our favorite restaurants in Houston. The atmosphere is sophisticated, casual and relaxing. The food is fresh, local and well-prepared. The menu is always inventive. Most of the time the service is very good but on occasion it is not so. Nevertheless, it remains a restaurant that we are happy to recommend to our friends and people who like good dining. "
