A word from Sorrel Urban Bistro
Born out of a vision to bring affordable farm-to-table dining to Houston, restaurateur Ray Salti created Sorrel Urban Bistro, a casually elegant and fresh design, featuring an ever-changing blackboard menu of organic, locally-grown cuisine. Sorrel represents Ray Salti's second fine-dining culinary endeavor in addition to Ray’s Grill, the highly-lauded farm-to-table concept in Fulshear, TX, 20 miles West of Houston.

In addition to a diverse menu selection featuring local organic produce, meat, sustainable fish, and wild game, Sorrel now offers a charcuterie bar with a wide variety of imported and housemade delicatessen along with artisan Texas cheeses, handcrafted breads and more.

Beverage service includes seasonally inspired cocktails, artisanal beers and diverse selection of 200 plus wines (25 percent organic.)

  • "Found Sorrell on GroupOn and decided to try it. Had driven by this restaurant a multitude of time but there was nothing particularly descript about it so hadn't considered going there. Thank goodness for GroupOn! So glad we went. The food was exceptional and in just the right portion sizes. It's right around the corner from us, so couldn't have been more convenient. Has an uncluttered interior with clean lines (in terms of design) and great ambience. And as if all that wasn't enough, the service was outstanding. Definitely planning on going back."

  • "Had the brisket steak and eggs. The brisket had a great flavor, unfortunately, it was basically ALL fat. There were multiple chunks of brisket, and I'd say 6/7 of the chunks mostly consisted of fat. Again, a great flavor, but I would've appreciated more meat. My boyfriend got the lobster benedict which was also mediocre - not the best flavor, and a rather small portion. However, we loved the food our friends ordered - the chicken quesadillas and biscuits and gravy were fabulous. We were definitely outordered! The 99 cent mimosas were delicious as well."

  • "I'm a vegetarian, so it's hard to find an upscale restaurant that suits my needs and my husbands (not a vegetarian at all). The risotto hit the spot - it was fantastic! He loved the lamp lollipops, too. We were given complimentary champagne & sorbet since we indicated on Open Table that it was our anniversary. The service was fantastic and we also enjoyed their awesome happy hour at the bar before dinner, too. We already have plans to go back for lunch!"

  • "At our last visit, the food was still outstanding with fresh and innovative ingredients. However, the service was frankly disappointing, especially considering the amount of money we spent, and it really diminished the enjoyment of the experience. Examples: (1) even though restaurant was at most 1/3 full, we were given a terrible 2-top table right by the front door and host stand; (2) when we asked to change, we were given only a marginally better 4-top right next to it; (3) bread was not offered until asked for; (4) water was not refilled until asked for; (5) our dishes were not brought out together; etc. The quality of service has been declining here, so I think this place gets only one more chance with me (at most)."

  • "Very good food and good service. My only complaint (and I have raised this before) was the lack of prices on the cocktail menu. When we got our check we were surprised that one of the cocktails was priced considerably higher than the rest, without having been disclosed on the menu. I asked our server about this and he said that they did not list prices on the cocktail menu because if people asked for the price they probably could not afford it. Quite candidly, this explanation was offensive. There is no reason why cocktail prices should not be listed just as wine prices are listed."

  • "I love the food at Sorrel, but I'm s out to never go back due to 2 things. They have got to fix the air conditioning. It's miserable to sit in there and sweat, literally sweat. Secondly, the service is slow so don't be in any kind of hurry...even the bottle of wine took about 20 minutes. I keep going back because of the delicious food. There are too many fabulous restaurants in Houston to suffer through the warm environment at Sorrel and it's never a quick meal. No sweater needed, ever. "

  • "I went with two other people for a "special night out" dinner. We decided to order "tapas" style rather than each getting the traditional appetizer plus entrée. We ordered several small plates, several appetizers, one entrée, and of course three desserts. We loved grazing that way. It was a great way to sample a lot of different things without feeling stuffed. Everything that we tasted was delicious and the presentation was lovely as well. We shared a reasonably-priced bottle of wine and left feeling like we'd had a lovely evening and will definitely come back. "

The waitress was slow to serve, forgot to return with several items when asked and had no familiarity at all with the with the menu. The food was of good quality but unexceptional in composition or taste. This is one of those places that is over-priced with nothing to differentiate it. I won't be back."

  • "I love this easy, laid back bistro on West Alabama. The ambiance is low-key and relaxing, and the wait staff aims to please. We enjoyed the red snapper, which was perfectly prepared, and they accommodated gluten and dairy allergies. The restaurant was a bit bright and the action in the kitchen a bit too obvious for an evening meal -- I feel like this is a great spot for brunch or lunch, but we still very much enjoyed our experience. "

  • "The previous reviews critical of portion for price are correct. The pricing would be fine for traditional platings. The portions are more suited to a tapas restaurant. I ordered steak and shrimp for $36 and received a petite filet with one small shrimp as garnish. While the food was good, I can spend my money at plenty other options in the Houston area where I don't feel robbed."

  • "My girlfriend and I decided last minute to have lunch here last Saturday due to the beautiful weather. We arrived around 1pm and had no issues getting a table outside in the shade. Everything we ordered was delicious including the cocktails. We even stayed after at their bar to enjoy a few more after our meal. Hannah and Paul make the best drinks - refreshing, tasty and deceptively strong. They really listened to our needs and they were wonderful to talk to! We will definitely come back again!"
