  • "People-watching on Newbury Street with great food and drinks -- can't beat it! On warm days the windows are open to the street."

  • "Gluten free brunch options, including toast? Yes please! The food here is delicious and they are so accommodating to allergies. I love this spot!"

  • "We were seated promptly at reservation time, given choice of table by the front that was open to the outdoors (fabulous weather) or further back. Chose further back for more comfortable seating, larger tables, and still able to enjoy fact front was open to outside. Tables near the opening, while inviting, are small and very close together - different experience. Service great - very timely - and they were busy but not hectic on Saturday night. Great experience."

  • "I love Sonsie because it is an open air restaurant with delicious food and great ambience!! They use really fresh ingredients. The pizza is awesome. As a bonus it is reasonably priced."

  • "A small group of old friends, all-but-one first-timers, all agreed the food -- n.b. pappardelle w/perfect meatballs -- and wine were excellent. We appreciated being seated before the last person arrived. Courteous and accommodating staff from beginning to end, and on a busy weekday evening. Ambiance was cozy, but a little too dark and a little too loud."

  • "Sonsie was my favorite brunch spot in Boston for a long time, but I just went back after probably a couple years since my last visit there. The music was so loud that it felt like being a club, which isn't really the vibe I want at brunch. And I noticed that the amount of salmon in the Smoked Salmon Bagel was cut in half, but the price hadn't changed. The Bloody Mary was delicious. Overall, still a good brunch spot, but it seems the quality is diminishing."

  • "Service was excellent. Food was awesome- I loved the gnocci, turnip and lamb shank. It was a bit noisy if you are sensitive to a loud restaurant, however it was a busy Friday evening. "

  • "5 years ago this was my favorite restaurant in Boston. I no longer reside there, but every time I returned, this was the first restaurant I visited. Unfortunately, this visit ruined my opinion forever. Prior to being seated, the bartender was very rude. Once we were seated, our server was absolutely terrible. He didn't visit our table for a while. I don't know if there is a new chef, but our waiter said without asking the chef that there are no substitutions, nor special requests. The bus boys were more attentive to our table, than the waiter. Our food was given to another table and I was very disappointed with the taste of my food. The table next to us had a terrible experience, as well. Very unfortunate, as I will never go back."

  • "The best on Newbury Street! Glad it's still here 22 years later since I first dined there! Food and waitstaff as good as ever this past Saturday evening."

  • "At the top of fashionable Newbury St, Sonsie combines must be seen at chic cafe style, where one goes to see and be seen, to at the rear the elegance of a French restaurant, joined amid ships by a vibrant bar scene not far out of place on busy nights from a sex in the city scene. I love it, though for the more mature of us the further nearer the back the more comfortable we are! The service is great from mainly bright young people, the food and menu selection modern and light and the cocktails sublime, especially our sidecars (not on their list). The Maitre D asked after me by name and recalled my previous visits a few months back, flattering though I believe he made good use of open table data. We'll worth a visit to stay young at heart!"

  • "Excellent and very tasty food every time I go. This past time we had such a fabulous server - she really made the night. Have always been pleased with my experience. Great spot for a dinner out with friends. "

  • "I want to start off by saying I love Sonsie! This was not the typical expirence I've had here. It was my birthday and we came for drinks and dessert which I stated in my reservation. The server was great until she realized this was all we were doing. Her whole demeanor changed towards us and somewhat made for an awkward experience. Drinks were amazing as always and desserts were ok. But as I said this isn't typical, I would usually give Sonsie 5 stars. Oh and we still had a decent bill."

  • "I had never been to Sonsie before, mainly because I hadn't seen the beautiful door opening onto Newbury Street. It's basically like eating outside! "

  • "I looked this up (small rib eye steak arrabiata) online today and learned it was sliced steak with a spicy tomato sauce. Sonsie's version is neither sliced (tho' the waitress told me it was) nor served with sauce -- just a very salty, pan seared steak, topped with greens and cheese. Not bad, not good -- if better described, I would not have ordered it."

  • "Overall, it was delicious. Buffalo Chicken Fried Livers was good but the blue cheese foam was a bit overwhelming. Mussels was very good!"
    Dined on 5/27/2014
  • "We waited for 30 minutes before being seated and then waited another 20 minutes for menus! The service was the slowest I've experienced in a long while. It was only when the restaurant was half empty that we got our food. The server was friendly, but the staff struck me as incredibly disorganized."

  • "It is difficult to find the combination of restaurant that Sonsie is: charming decor, incredibly delicious food and excellent service. Our waitress, Chelsea, was kind, accommodating, and helped us pair the perfect wines. "

  • "A testament to the ambience and good service! Not many places have buzz on all nights of the week!"

  • "Took my wife and young kids to Sonsie for Monthers Day and it was really good. Food was excellent and it was bustling and energetic. Eggs Benedict was really good and the kids loved their French Toast. Brunch menu was not huge, Bloody Mary's were good."

  • "Food was terrific for all 4 of us. Service was fabulous; over solicitous service. Noise level was way way way too loud."

  • "A bit pricey, I paid about 10 dollars more than I would have liked. Very good food. "

  • "Special occasion with family and guests. Reservation was ready and we were seated, served drinks, then waited, waited, waited. At every step of the process we waited 15-20 minutes. All our drinks went empty - including the water - and I had to call over waitress to get more drinks. We saw people seated and served while we waited. My son had ordered a chicken caeser salad. When it came there was no chicken. By the time it did come we were all done. She apologized almost off-handedly, made no attempt to fix (another drink? dessert?) and said nothing when I requested the check, which we did immediately after his chicken finally came. Really seemed to just not care."

  • "I thought the food was tasty, although my husband's vegetables were on the raw side. My one complaint stems from the attitude of the waiter. He was very rude and treated us like we weren't good enough to eat there. I have no idea why he thought that. Maybe because I was in jeans instead of a cocktail dress. Maybe because my license showed that I live in North Carolina. He didn't bother to ask, but I'm from Providence..."

  • "Wanted to celebrate a special occasion and had heard good things about Sonsie. But it was not a good experience and we were extremely disappointed. The restaurant was extremely loud. The tables were crowded together, and every time the waitress served the table next to me, she hit into my chair. The food was mediocre at best. My chicken was dry, the chicken in a family member's salad was dry, another family member's order did not include everything she requested. Will not eat at Sonsie again."

  • "Sonsie is a great place to celebrate. Th ambience is energetic and the noise level is quite loud. Sitting at the bar tables in the front by the open door is a fantastic way to watch the buzz of Newbury St. while relaxing after a busy day."

  • "Perhaps it was down to the weather and the pre marathon crowd, but did not enjoy our visit. We had booked but had to wait ten minutes to be seated. Then we had to tip toe between crammed in tables to get to our own spot, which was elbow to elbow to the tables either side of us. The food was in small portions for this European, I left hungry. Quality was just 'okay' with the baked eggs being a bit tasteless. Being a lunchtime I was surprised by the shouting going on inside. Not conducive to a gentle brunch."

  • "Sonsie had a great atmosphere. It definitely seemed to be the place where most people started their nights off. It had a unique seating arrangement where the front was faced towards the street as if we were outdoors and the back was more intimate with larger tables. Although loud, it had exactly the energy we were looking for to have dinner. Food and drinks were great as well."

  • "Great anniversary dinner! The ambiance was perfect, as was the service and food. My only "complaint" was the large group of teenage girls that sat next to us; they were extremely loud and as much as it was a distraction, it did not detract from the experience. Of course, that is a once-in-a-blue-moon occurrence!"

  • "I had friends coming in from out of town and I wanted to give them a taste of Boston/Newbury street. While the food was good-it was lost on us because of the service. The server was nice but Wow did she make mistakes and the manager did little to make it right. They forgot one of my guests dinner order, they screwed up the pizza order twice---I mean we couldn't enjoy our meal because when my friend finally was served his dinner-the rest of us were on to desert. Shame on them. I won't go back."

  • "We ate at Sonsie on the recommendation of a local. The food was really good, but it was so loud that we were screaming the entire time throughout our dinner. Our reservation was at 7:30pm, so it was not terribly late. We asked the waitress to possibly turn the music down. They did for a few minutes but then it went right back up to a ear shattering level. Maybe if you go for lunch it isn't so bad."

  • "Great atmosphere, food, drinks, a delightful Easter Brunch! Love the Eggs Benedict! Warm muffins and breads served are quite delicious. Makes it hard to finish the wonderful meal!! "
