Sons & DaughtersAmazing food and service. We really enjoyed our dinner at Sons&Daughters. The food was unique and tasted great. People were nice. Great place for a special occasion or romantic dinner.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMterrific and creativeWhat a fantastic experience. The food was very creative without compromising the integrity of the meal. Staff was great as well. Highly recommend this place.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely spot for special occasionsThe price fixed menu was a touch pricey and the portions were small (though I left full). But the quality of ingredients, flavors, attention to detail, and service were outstanding. The intimate setting and seasonal flavors make this place perfect for special occasions.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMToo much for just great food...A perfect dining experience involves more than food - even if the food is exceptional...
The food was delicious, original & inspired. The service was very nice. The paired wines were very good though sparingly poured and all, except the sparkling & dessert, served in the same "universal tasting" glass. The decor was bleak and uncomfortable. I'm glad we went but don't imagine a return. Dinner was $450.00 for two; too much for just food.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial occasion diningA perfect evening with no fuss and very interesting, tasty dishes, well matched by unusual wine pairings. Each dish beautiful in its presentation. Thoughtful service. Loved the quiet room. Our only complaint: the cold draft coming up the back stairs directly to our table. Even those by the fire felt it.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!Fabulous tasting menu! Delicious wine pairings! We had a wonderful evening. Thank you!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing: Art and FoodWe had a truly unforgettable dinner at Sons and Daughters. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed, as if in someone's home. Each course was both magnificently tasty and artistically presented. Each lettuce leaf or berry was placed perfectly and the combinations were unique. Even the sea urchin, which we had never tasted and were worried about, was presented in a way that made it delicious and special. The staff were knowledgeable and kind. The evening was one to remember and while the final bill was expensive, it was worth it.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best dinnerEvery dish was so beautiful and delicious.
It was the best dinner I've ever had in Bay Area5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMdelightful experienceVery attentive and personable staff. Calm, no sense of being rushed. Food was beautiful and delicious. Staff were very willing to answer questions and even brought out some ingredients so we could see what they looked like before cooking. Sommelier was very knowledgeable and available.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing PlaceOutstanding food, great ambiance, exceptional service.
The tasting menu was a hit! From the amuse to the mignardise, everything was absolutely flawlessly executed.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOur tasting menu cherry popped! We've never treated ourselves to a tasting menu, so we were excited (I had the butterflies) and a bit nervous (tasting menus can seem a bit intimidating). But all members of the down to earth staff made us feel relaxed. Even paid special attention to us celebrating his last day and gave us bubbles. I never order chicken, and the chicken course was probably my favorite. I've had trouble with Uni in the past, and now it's all I've been able to think about. The dining room is quite adorable, warm, masculine and homey feeling all at once. Much thought was given to every last detail from water glasses to linens to coffee choice to plating options to...oh my god how delicious the food. Divine. Thank you so much for the best dining experience.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMYummyEverything on the price fixed menu was absolutely delicious. Our favorite course was the sea urchin ( AND we are not sea urchin fans ). Every course was beautifully presented.
It was my husbands birthday and we do not like a fuss, so did not mention it when making the reservation. But, when asked if we were celebrating a special occasion, I did tell them. They discreetly brought us glasses of champagne after our meal -- nice touch. Also, in the table next to us, a guest had some dietary restrictions -- the chef was totally accommodating to her needs and very open to changing the ingredients to suit her needs.
Love this restaurant -- will be back.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. Quite a bit less formal, but rivals Gary Danko's. Wish restaurants of this caliber would enforce a No Cell Phone policy, couple next to us were texting all night. Otherwise, Great!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat an amazing dinning experience. What an amazing dinning experience. The service was the best I have ever had in any resturant anywhere in the world. It is on the pricey side although we did the dinner with wine pairing which I would recommend. Easy parking right up the block.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellence. Period.Chosen online by menu and fresh/organic ingredients, this food experience was in the top two of my life. Tasting menu was beautiful to the eye with wonderful serving pieces, each dish a great combination of flavors, staff contributed to the enjoyable evening by being friendly/approachable/welcoming. They truly seemed glad we were there. Perfect small servings of breads added to the mea (not just filler!)l, I am a bread baker, and we fell in love with the buckwheat toast, and especially the moist and wonderful flavor of the roll with preserved lemon and ricotta in the dough. Even the last course, dessert, which many restaurants weigh down with chocolate, was a party of flavors on a plate -- super light but not simple at all.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMEach course was more excitingEach course was more exciting and delicious than the next. One of the highlights of the meal was the chef's buckwheat toast. With only 20 seats in the entire dining room, the restaurant manages to make each table feel as though they are the only people in the restaurant.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good, particularlThe food was very good, particularly the vegetables. We ordered the wine pairing also. The pairings were good.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBest if the bestI can't say enough good things about the restaurant but I'll try, all through the night from the host, wait staff, chefs made my husband and I feel so special as though we were the only ones there. The food was amazing and we still certainly come back.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMy expectations were high,My expectations were high, and Sons & Daughters exceeded them! The special touches for the Birthday guest was much appreciated. Staff knowledge of the menu items, garden facts and wine was exceptional. Service was the quality of some of my favorite 3Michelin Stars venues in France. The execution of the top shelf ingredients was too wonderful to put into words. Many thanks to all there.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food, elegantlyFantastic food, elegantly and thoughtfully prepared from consistently great ingredients. The intimate dining room and comfortable service provided by the staff just add to a great experience. The wine pairings are very often deliciously spot on and enhance what is otherwise fantastic food.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had dinner 4/14 our lastWe had dinner 4/14 our last night in SF. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about the various dishes. The sommelier knew her wines and helped me pick a lovely white.
The food was truly a work of art. Multiple small delicious dishes of fresh home grown veggies and farm raised meats. We never felt rushed. At the end of the meal, you are full and satisfied. This is a real must for true foodies.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMwhat a fantastic dining experience.what a fantastic dining experience..every element of this restaurant is outstanding!

Ambiance is good, but very quiet4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply exceptional. HighSimply exceptional. High quality, local ingredients prepared extremely well. Wine pairings are always a perfect fit.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant provides theThis restaurant provides the best service that I have ever received in a restaurant. In addition, the food was so delicious. A bit pricey, but it's worth it. You won't regret going here!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I both recentlyMy wife and I both recently relocated to the US, so to celebrate her 30th we wanted to go somewhere special. While the food scene in SF is really great, we've been spoiled over the last decade by the shear number of fantastic chefs and restaurants in Sydney/Melbourne Australia and feeling a little bit lost over here. Sons and Daughters was like spending the night back at home: phenomenally good. The degustation format is fixed by the chef, with preferences cleared in advance by the excellent staff, consisting of relatively small courses, exceptionally prepared, the freshest seasonal produce, beautifully balanced flavour and textures, each paired with a unique wine. Easily the best experience we've had in 3 months. Love it, love it, love it!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply the best.My wife and I have dined all over the world and this was one of our most enjoyable meals. The whole meal was perfect, from the welcoming atmosphere to the impeccable service to the innovative and delicious food. It reminded us of The French Laundry when it was still owned by Don and Sally.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my wife for her birthday,I took my wife for her birthday, and our taste buds are still singing. One of the most
unusual, eclectic, delicious meals we have ever encountered (and we travel a lot)
Pricey, of course, but worth every $. Patrick of Pacifica4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMy experience at Sons andMy experience at Sons and Daughters was amazing. The restaurant is best for very special occasions, the setting is elegant and intimate. The menu, a tasting menu in which each of nine courses is crafted in exquisite detail.
Definitely for foodies wanting an experience that exceeds that of a 'meal.' Each miniscule, personally cultivated leaf on my plate was selected for its beauty, flavor, contribution to the dish as a whole. The service was coreographed to create interest, inform, punctuate the flow of the meal.
The cooks and servers greeted us as people, clearly enthusiastic about their work, the food and the diner's experience. We had a wonderful time.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely sublimeSons & Daughters delivered perhaps the best dinner I've ever had! We had the prix fixe vegetarian menu and every item was simply sublime. The wine pairings, too, were daring yet absolutely perfect. And the staff - everyone we interacted with was exactly right for the job - just friendly and attentive enough without being cloying or obsequious. The maître d', Nathan, was extremely helpful and friendly, even standing in the street to hail a cab at the end of the meal.
If you have someone you want to impress, go to Sons & Daughters. It's very expensive ($100 per person plus $70 more for wine!) but well worth it. A truly memorable meal!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMSons and Daughters is -awesome-,Sons and Daughters is -awesome-, there is simply no denying it. It's expensive, but the experience is unforgettable and you absolutely get more than you pay for!
Impeccable service, killer food, and a really great space. Their reservation policies are a bit strict, but they call to remind you and who can blame them as they have a small space and want to make sure you're really coming as they make the meal just for you!
We also had a fantastic conversation with our waiter, the sommelier, and the maitre d.
Invent a special occasion and just go, just go. You'll leave with a glow, I promise.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, tiny portionsVery good food and service, but TINY portions. If you expect a big meal, even with 8 courses you'll be disappointed.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful,wonderful,wonderful.Wonderful,wonderful,wonderful. Every aspect of the evening was great. Thanks!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing experience - foodAmazing experience - food was interesting. Very earthy and you have to appreciate different florals to appreciate the food fully. My palette isn't as mature. Service was outstanding. They had really sweet touches like my mom's name on the menu (it was her birthday), a champagne toast, etc. The staff was very accommodating for the odd dietary restrictions that we had. I would absolutely recommend the experience for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful birthday experienceWonderful experience. Staff was very attentive, discreet, and friendly. They had personalized menus for my dad's birthday, and a complimentary round of sparkling rosé to start the meal. The dishes were innovative and understated, without seeming affected. I feel like I had never understood an onion before their beef course. An excellent choice for an intimate, leisurely meal.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingly tasty and creative food! One of my favorite restaurants! I've been here three times and each visit has been getting better and better. This last time the food was outrageously good... I look forward to my next visit!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was exquisite. EachThe food was exquisite. Each bite was a perfect combination of flavors and textures.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMimaginative food; lovely presentatiimaginative food; lovely presentation of each course. don't be put off by number of courses; portions are intelligent. many novel ingredients combined with skill and flare. a true find3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, special mealWe thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Sons and Daughters. The service was friendly and perfect, the dishes were lovely to look at, and each one consisted of wonderful flavors nicely matched. The 8 course pairing (at $96) was just enough food for my husband and a tad too much for me (which is perfect since I'm a lighter eater). Our favorite dish was the tender, perfectly prepared sturgeon. Our only criticism of the lineup was that the beef, while it tasted great, was unexpectedly tough. But that was a minor hiccup in an otherwise great meal. We shared one wine pairing, and the wines were good.
We are lucky enough to live on the peninsula, and so we will definitely be back.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best dining experiencesOne of the best dining experiences I've had: went for my partner's birthday and they greeted us with a special printed menu and champagne, and ended with a special treat. The restaurant is small, only 22 seats with a small kitchen at the center where three work over the stoves with great concentration - enjoyed viewing them from our table. The menu is a fixed 8 courses, but they accommodated a vegetarian/pescadarian without problem - small portions but plenty to make a satisfying meal. The food was beautiful presented, and most importantly, delicious and made partially with vegetables grown in their own garden - wonderful and surprising combinations of flavors. Make their own breads - yum. The wait staff of three work together flawlessly.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic experienceWhat a great restaurant that truly deserves their Michelin rating. Each course was innovative and delicious. We felt the price was reasonable given the quality of the experience. They lived up to their reputation unlike some of the other rated restaurants in the city.12/28/2012 12:00:00 AM
