A word from Sonora Restaurant
Since Rafael Palomino—Sonora’s Executive Chef and Proprietor—opened the doors to this, his flagship Latin-fusion restaurant, he has received accolades from a broad customer base, including an “Excellent” from the New York Times. This creative, Colombian-born (Queens-raised) chef and author of five cookbooks, has since opened 8 more restaurants that span three states (New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania). Sonora, like Palomino’s other restaurants, boasts excellent service and mouth-watering dishes, paired with an extensive wine list and cocktail offerings. In addition to impeccable service and delicious dishes, Sonora’s two-story home offers guests the possibility of having a custom-designed and catered on-site private party, for any occasion, from 12 to 110 people.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • " Best Latin around short of NYC. Always satisfied here. Empanadas & tacos, plus so much interesting, unusual stuff that other Latin places in Westch. don't offer. Each item lists country of origin. Guacamole here- as good as it gets. Appetizers are plentiful, in nice portions: e.g., ceviche, unusual empanadas (e.g. one contained eggplant, quinoa, & goat cheese- delicious!), & a nice seafood chowder called Chupa. Many meat, chicken, & seafood entrees. I had jumbo shrimp & sea scallops (in an edible basket) in a flavorful seafood broth w diced tomato, sitting atop 3 mushroom ravioli; a winner. Paella can be had with seafood or vegetarian- good, but not exactly what you'd get in Spain. Fondue & choc. cake are great. Upstairs less noisy."

  • "What a great place. I took my wife there for birthday dinner, and she loved it. As an obsessive of Sth American food, she liked the range and authenticity of the food. Not inexpensive, but less than we were prepared to pay for such great food, service and environment. Very vibrant and fun- would definitely recommend."

  • "Sonora is a great neighborhood retaurant. We went for brunch on a quiet Sunday afternoon to celebrate my daughter's graduation from high school. This was my 4th visit of the venue. Food is consistently well but the brunch menu is shrinking. Service is great and staffs are very friendly. Our south American friend enjoyed the food and atomsphere a lot. We had a great time."

  • "I had dinner here on Saturday. The restaurant is decorated nicely and the servers are friendly. The food was just ok. If it had been better it would have justified the prices. Hits - Branzino, flourless chocolate cake Misses - risotto, appetizer tacos and cheesecake Overall the experience was good but not great. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that I would check out before coming back here."

  • "This restaurant used to have amazing food and be humming. It misses its former chef/owner."

  • "We love our neighborhood good food places! Sonora is right at the top of the list. Fabulous seafood paella, and although not on the menu, they accommodate veges like me with a vege paella"

  • "Delicious, fresh and varied. Good vegetarian choices. Nice sangria too."

  • "Fabulous food. Great margaritas and sangria! We sat outside in their small patio area. It was a beautiful night!,"

  • "Upon entering Sonora, we we given a warm, friendly greeting and shown to our table, where we we met our server for the evening. He was attentive, and helpful, especially in recommending dishes that would avoid my wife's food allergies. The service and attention throughout the meal was friendly and helpful. We had the ceviche and salmon tartare to start and both were excellent. The grilled salmon with quinoa tabbouleh salad was excellent. We would highly recommend Sonora as a destination restaurant, and plan on coming back many times."

  • "Food is amazing again (and again). Some tables too noisy for conversation."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner on a Thursday evening in a nearly empty restaurant. Nothing like the Saturday night crowds. Excellent sangria and tableside-prepared guacamole to start. I had the fabulous tilapia/mole dish and others had shrimp, chicken or paella in various preparations. All were excellent. Attentive service and quiet ambience were unusual for Sonora, which is normally quite lively. You really can't go wrong here!"

  • "We have gone to this restaurant for years and after about a year'svisit, I think it was better than ever. Our waiter was not only good, but interesting conversationalist. Like the mix of South American dishes and personnel. On a Saturday night it got quite noisy after 7."

  • "We have visited Sonora twice. Both times the wait staff was courteous and patient with our delays in ordering because of conversation. For starters, we ordered the guacamole, ground freshly at our table. We also ordered the deliciously refreshing cactus pear sangria. We have ordered from the diverse tapas portion of the menu and main entrees. Each item on the menu is noted with its country of origin. The waiter was helpful in advising if the dish was spicy. Everything we ordered both times was wonderfully prepared and delicious. And throughout our meal, we were never rushed but our waiter was attentive to check if we needed anything. I had never eaten at such an authentic Spanish restaurant before and was delighted and hope to visit again!"

  • "I gave this restaurant only 3 stars because we were disappointed in the service and the value of what was presented. I'm tired of waitstaff nearly badgering me " can I clear that... Still working on that"? Etc! Give us a chance to EAT! Restaurant was nearly empty so it wasn't a case of needing a table. The guacamole was excellent. The paella just ok- not super fresh! Drinks were well made and fondue for dessert was yummy. I may go back for happy hour @ the bar, however I'm not plunking down $50+ here again!"

  • "I had n=been wanting to eat at Sonora in Port Chester for the longest time and when I finally did I was not disappointed at all. The decor is warm pumpkin color walls and the ambience is upscale casual (but not cheap!) and very inviting. Our waitress, Marta, was terrific and every bite my wife and I had was delicious. I can't wait to go back."

  • "Time after time we are pleased with everything about Sonora. Last Friday was no exception. We brought some friends there for the first time and everything was great from cocktails to dessert."

  • "We've been here before and enjoyed it. It had been a few months so we bought a Groupon. This time, however, one dish was over cooked to the point of being inedible. A second dish, described as a whole Branzino came out with half of a fish. When pointed out, they acknowledged the error and brought out another half on a separate plate. They also had a bizarre and absurd pricing policy for dishes that exceeded the allowed Groupon amount so that you paid way more than the full price of the dish on the menu. What the...? No meaningful customer service even knowing we'd been there many times. Done."

  • "We had Sunday brunch. The food and service were great. The outside is a bit misleading. It does not look like anything particularly interesting, but the interior decor is very nice. The overall atmosphere is very nice. We got there at noon when it opened and there were very few other guests. Surprising. Will go back for dinner."

  • "Very good food and service. My request to be seated in a quiet area was fulfilled. We have been to this restaurant before and like the food and wines. Not fancy and in a kind of out of the way spot but worth the trip over the TZ Bridge."

  • "6 over 40 somethings went to dinner on Saturday night. we had an 830 reservation but got the bar early for drinks. The rest has a nice atmosphere and a lively bar scene. I was happy to see an extensive bar menu of mojitos and margaritas. The food was ok and the service was terrible."

  • "One of my favorite restaurants. It's always too noisy but it's always filled with people so it's okay I guess."

  • "Good menu with unusual Latin American recipes. Everything very tasty. Nice Drinks."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "Delicious food with a varied menu, beautiful presentation, and attentive but not intrusive service. And there's always something new to try at Sonora. One of my favorite things about this restaurant is that they make sure the meals for everyone at the table are delivered at the same time. If you've ever had to wait while the last plate is delivered 5 or 10 minutes after everyone else, you know how important this is. We went there twice during restaurant week and enjoyed Sunday afternoon more than Friday night just because of the noise level. You can always count on Sonora for a great time !"
