Diner Reviews
  • "I received a gift card from my friends at work to Sonomas', I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived, it's clean and very professional, our waiter was very attentive and the food was awesome! I certainly will be a regular now. "

  • "Nice ambience, service, quiet, and would recommend to friends.,...only negative was we all had braised beef, quite nice, but each serving was was enough for two individuals, and the starch and vegetables although very good, were very small. Overall main course strange as we had to take over half the beef home and thus meal disappointing in comparison to past dinners were have had there."

  • "Sonoma is a great place for amazing food. Very creative and tasty. A warm And relaxing atmosphere with a live musician on the weekends. Definitely worth the trip off the beaten path."

  • "Sonoma restaurant is a true culinary gem. When you visit, their live guitar music in the background sets the tone for a wonderful evening. Their menu options are very unique and tastefully done, the flavors, pairings of sides are the perfect portions. Their prices are are not below average but, the quality of their food, taste, temperature and presentation are worth it! The staff at Sonoma was extremely attentive and talented, they came to our table at the right times with an elegant and professional poise at all times."

  • "Sonoma is not near anything else, but worth the drive. We had a very nice meal, with fresh ingredients creatively prepared. Our server was prompt and attentive, although not perfectly well informed. The ambience was just right, with live classical style guitar music. Sonoma's reputation for fine dining out of the city is well deserved."

  • "We went for our anniversary. It was romantic and quiet. The staff was accommodating and friendly. My husband had the veal porterhouse and it was phenomenal! I had the salmon. The seasoning was so delicious, I wish there was more. Great combination of spices. We will definitely return for our next special occasion."

  • "My husband and I paid our first visit to Sonoma on Saturday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The restaurant had a good buzz of conversation but was not loud & distracting like many restaurants can be. Mainly adult parties, with only a handful of older children. The menu was excellent, with a good selection but not an endless list of variations. Service was attentive, friendly, but not overpowering. The food was very good, something a little different to the norm. All cooked to perfection. A guitarist playing a selection of well-known classics added to the relaxing ambiance. We had a very enjoyable evening and will definitely return (the ability to reserve a table online via Opentable is an added bonus!)"

  • "We are long-time repeat customers at Sonoma and still consider it to be our favorite fine-dining restaurant in the area. At our most recent visit, the food was very good and we very much enjoyed listening to Peter Clemente on classical guitar. The service at this visit was not up to the usual standards, but we expect this is an anomaly that will be corrected by our next visit."

  • "This was my first time at Sonoma. I knew it was pricey and out of the way, so when I got there I wasn't surprised by this. It was pretty slow for a Friday night, but the service was great and the ambiance was good, helped by the live music if a classical guitarist. Food was great, though my steak wasn't at the right temp (close to well done instead of medium rare). My wife loved her short ribs and the whole experience was a positive one. I recommend Sonoma for a quiet, intimate dining experience that is worthy of the price tag, expect around $50-60 per person."

  • "This is our place to go for Anniversary, Valentine's Day, and Birthdays. The food, presentation, service, it is all so fine. There is quiet music provided by a classic acoustic guitarist."

  • "We had a wonderful "foodie" waitress named Wendy, elegantly served food with sophisticated and highly creative taste combinations, varied menu, memorable and affordable wine, and surprisingly affordable when the check came. Leisurely paced meal, a real food "experience"!!"

  • "Really enjoyed Sonoma for our anniversary dinner. The food was wonderful and nicely plated. Our server, Angela, was wonderful. We were served beef wellington tidbits courtesy of the restaurant. Our rolls came with two tapenades and roasted garlic. We split the apple salad which the chef split into two plates and served "deconstructed." I had duck, and it easily matched the best duck I have had. My husband had salmon. Our side dish was a sampling of beet, broccoli rabe, squash/banana, potato puree, and mid-eastern couscous. We had a delicious meritage wine and finished with a slice of whiskey-infused cake. As the server knew it was our anniversary, she brought it out with a lit candle, along with dessert wine courtesy of the house."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner with great service. When I reserved I let Sonoma know that we were celebrating 2 birthdays. They were very generous and thoughtful remembering such and served our dessert with candles and an after dinner drink. Thank you."

  • "This was not our first visit, but was just as special. Our waiter was very pleasant, well trained and mixed interaction with space to enjoy the experience. The food was exceptional; 2 thumbs up for the sirloin, rack of lamb and Korean short ribs. All were spectacular. Although stuffed, we could not pass on the delicious desserts - having them placed in front of you for description is the best sales technique ever! We also love the quiet music of the guitar player. That is a lost part of dining out most places. We sat at our table over 2 hours and no one made us feel we should hurry; that alone is worth the ride to Princeton."

  • "This was our 15th Valentine's Day dinner at Sonoma. We had only been dating a short time on our first first trip. Two years later we got engaged right after our Valentine's Day Dinner. Three kids later it continues to be an annual tradition to have a night to ourselves. We always look forward to the wonderful food, excellent service, and amazing music from Peter. We look forward to another 15 Valentine's Days."

  • "We were celebrating a special wedding anniversary and looked to Sonoma to provide the perfect dinner. We were not disappointed. Every aspect of the evening was touched with class. Our waitress could not have been more cordial and professional. Each course was imaginatively conceived and meticulously prepared. The wine list included a number of offerings that were both very fine and fairly priced. The atmosphere was both festive and quiet. We can truly say that the evening was perfect!"

  • "The service at Sonoma is unmatched – astutely attentive servers endlessly crumb tablecloths. The wine list is superb – we indulged in an Elk Cove Pinot Noir that drank like velvety glasses of dark cherries and peppered earth. The dishes are inventive – of note was my Cajun Scallop and Sweet Corn Crème Brûlée appetizer. Sonoma draws an older crowd, but maintains an edgy vibe from its artistically textured walls to its comfortably candlelit ambience. On Friday, sizzling skillets of escargot whizzed by us in every direction, my Ahi Tuna entrée was exceptionally fresh, and the Grand Marnier soaked strawberries on our cheesecake were too decadent for words. My single curiosity was that all of the specials were served up with the same four sides."

  • "I can't say enough about the food, it was wonderful. Both my husband and I had the shrimp/scallop cornucopia, which was served in a light pastry crust. The dish was prepared with great care and had delicate flavors. It was Valentines evening and each lady received a long stem rose which was a very nice touch. Service was excellent and we will definitely be back!"

  • "We've been several times and each time the food has been excellent and the service quite good. The consistency keeps bringing us back. An astonishing find several years back out in the middle of nowhere. Don't let the non-nondescript building location fool you."

  • "I am not a food snob but I have traveled extensively and had the good fortune to dine in great restaurants in major US cities and Europe. Sonoma stands out as an oasis of wonderful food and service in Central MA - on par with really great restaurants anywhere. The service is fantastic as well. I have always had a great food experience at Sonoma - a "WOW" experience, not just "nice""

  • "My wife and I have eaten at Sonoma numerous times over many years, and we have yet to be served anything but superb meals. They remain our singular choice for that special night out in North Central Massachusetts."

  • "Being on a low-carb diet, our advance reservation, three weeks ahead of time, allowed the chefs to have special menu choices that I could indulge in. They are very accommodating and have a good understanding of what it takes to make food tasty while meeting special needs. My companion's fondness/addiction to dark chocolate was satisfied by several dessert choices. The rack of lamb was excellent, cooked to the right degree and exceptionally flavorful (Colorado supplier). My veal chop was satisfyingly ample and its flavor was not masked by the flavors of the preparation. The sides, typically vegetables, are visually appealing and unique, in selection, preparation and flavor."

  • "As befitting a birthday night out for my future spouse, this was a great place to dine. The weather caused the limo service to bail out at the last minute, but the service, the food and the mood was perfect. We will be back again!"

  • "Food was excellently presented. Flavors were terrific. Wait staff did an excellent job in presenting the specials for the evening … all without having to refer to a written description."

  • "Our waitress clearly loved the food, which was awesome. She made some great recommendations (the bluberry-acai martini was a delicious as advertised). We got a lovely little amuse-bouche, and delicious bread with three great spreads. We both got the special appetizers; great salad and wonderful fois gras tartlets. Colorado lamb chops are awesome! And we were so full, we had to take dessert home with us. Was definitely expensive but a real treat with excellent service and nice guitar music played live."

  • "This was my 4th visit in the past year. The food, service and overall experience is excellent. I no longer feel the need to save this place for a special occasion. (I can spoil myself whenever I'm in the mood.) Not cheap but worth every dime. Probably the best restaurant in Central Mass."
