  • "The spot was cute. The food was good but nothing that made me say, "Ooh I gotta try this!" The steak we ordered wasn't cooked as requested but still tasty. The wines we wanted weren't offered but comprable suggestions were made. The server was knowledgeable. The ambience was nice but I didn't like that you can see into the bathrooms from the dining area. It wasn't terrible it just wasn't all that I was hoping for. The desert was great! Overall it was cool... Worth visiting."

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to go to Sonoma because we bought I groupon. I had been there before and I always enjoyed the food and service. Right from the start our waiter was rude to me because I didn't hear what he said. Our cheese board took 45 minutes and the only thing the waiter said was it's on it's way. No manager came to speak with us. Finally we get our cheese board and it was because they gave it to another table. They did take it off our check but than our dinner came out 5 minutes later. So needless to say service was bad the food was pretty good."

  • "If I could sum up my experience at Sonoma, I would say that the food was good, but the restaurant is not the total package. The amount of food that came out versus what was paid for was unbalanced. I paid $6.00 to add shrimp to my salad and only had three shrimp on my plate! I would have preferred ice water over room temperature water poured right into glasses that were already sitting on the table. The lighting in the restaurant was great, but it would have been nicer had the window shades all been down. Our romantic dinner was easily distracted by the people walking by outside. It was also slightly uncomfortable sitting there. The chairs are too short for the tables, which makes it difficult to eat with a table at your chest."

  • "The wine list was great. It ranged from local wineries to global ones varying in prices. The food was phenomenal. We ordered the cheese board, which you can choose your cheeses and meats. Foire gois was a choice and oh,how I missed that moosed velvet flavor. My date and I ordered the duck (delicious) and the shrimp/scallop pasta. The only bad thing about the pasta was there were only 2 pieces of each meat in it for the price. The music went from a light jazz to something I'd listen to getting a massage. Overall good times."

For dinner I had the Surf & Turf Alexander, my friend had the Pasta Sonoma and I would recommend both dishes. Our waiter, Jesse, and other staff was great and very attentive."

  • "I definitely recommend Sonoma Bistro for their Notable Wine List but based on my last visit, I cannot give them a thumbs up on the food. Although, the rest of my party enjoyed their entrees, I had to send mine back to the kitchen. The description of the item on the menu sounded amazing (a surf and turf of risotto atop a veal cutlet with seared sea scallops), and our server highly recommended it. It had potential to be a great dish but it just was not executed very well, at all. It completely lacked seasoning and depth and was very one note. Because this is the first time out many that SB has disappointed me, I will likely return for a redemption meal."

  • "My wife and I had enjoyed a couple of previous visits to Sonoma Wine Bar & Bistro and were looking forward to returning for lunch during Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. We made a reservation for 1pm on Saturday. Everything lived up to our expectations, except for the service. Our 2-course lunch took an hour and a half, at least half of which was between our small cup of soup (lemon chicken and very good) and our entree. When I questioned our waiter as to the delay, he said that everyone had arrived at once and the kitchen had backed up. I thought the manager should have walked around and apologized or offered a free glass of wine, but there was neither. We'll return, just not during VB Restaurant Week."

  • "We were greeted & brought to our table right away. Our orders were also taken within a few minutes of being seated. However we had to wait 1 hour & 45 minutes for our food to arrive!!! Our waiter said the kitchen was behind because it was restaurant week, but did not have an answer when we questioned why they wouldn't have anticipated more people and since you had to make a reservation they would have known in advance. We asked for a manager but was told the manager was busy helping staff. Not only was the wait unacceptable, the way they handled it ensured I will never return or recommend this restaurant. Finally, our food came out cold and bland."

  • "Went there last night with my husband during restaurant week. The food was very decent, but honestly, the waiter was bad. I got the impression that he made a decision about us when we initially said we didn't want drinks, and he was very un-personable from that point forward. I know that is not the case with all the wait staff, since the waiter serving the table behind us sounded great. He explained all of the dishes, and made recommendations. He even brought that table bread (we never had the benefit of even the offer of either from our waiter). In any case, between the meals and tip it was ~$100, and although the food was good, the service made it an experience not worth repeating for us."

  • "My wife and I went here for our 9th Anniversary dinner. The service was outstanding. The restaurant called to confirm the reservation, and the server made a point to remark upon the occasion. She was great throughout the meal. The 2x2 cheese board was excellent anext time we might just make a meal of the 4x4 cheese board. The Duck Breast was extremely good. The Surf & Turf Alexander was "only" good. The veal was great, the scallops were good but over salted, and the risotto was unmemorable. I don't recall seeing the "brandy gastrique drizzle". The weakest part was dessert, the Turtle Parfait. It was bland and surprisingly hard for mousse. Even with the criticisms, we would return to try other dishes or have the cheese board."

  • "I have dined at Sonoma many times. I find the staff, the food and the wine selections excellent. This is restaurant week in VA Beach and the price fixed menu is a steal for $30. Either the shrimp or salad appetizer is a great choice. The choices of entre and both the steak and the salmon are delicious. The vegetables cut like spaghetti accompanying the salmon are very flavorful and tasty. The chocolate cheesecake was a delightful surprise. The texture somewhere between a cake and a pudding with incredible flavor. Food was so good, three of us (including another Opentable member) went back Tuesday evening and I am sure my friend will also give it an outstanding rating on Opentable as well."

The selections are a bit on the pricey side but the food quality and presentation are well worth the cost...and you won't find a better wine list anywhere in the area. We have dined there several times and have never been disappointed. Not an every day kind of place but the perfect choice for treating yourself or to impress guests. Highly recommended."
