Diner Reviews
  • "2nd time eating here and wasn't disappointed. This is a place I will always cone to when in town"
    Dined on 4/15/2014
  • "Always love this place for their wine flights, tapas, creative entrees and mini dessert trios. However, this time one of the chefs burned (and I mean black and hard) one side of my crab cake and decided to serve it anyway. "I'll just put that side down and no one will know." Really? Everyone knows the difference between the taste of crab and charcoal. They replaced it and apologized in a perfunctory manor. Guess what, Sonoma? You missed an opportunity to make good! Some sort of compensation should have been offered. We'll go elsewhere the next time we decide to drop $300 for a dinner"

  • "The food was good. Nothing that I will remember. The service was good. I have no complaints, but probably won't go back. Overall experience was just ok."

  • "Typically whenever I write a review I am very particular about stars awarded, but this restaurant hit a high score. We started off by immediately being seated with a reservation by a very kind host and hostess, then the waiter came over. This was our first time dining here so we didn't know what to expect. This guy knew it all about their dishes and was happy to share which helps with anxiety about not knowing what to get. I didn't ask, but they seem to accommodate for gluten free. My wife got the filet mignon and I got the venison. TOP NOTCH! The waiter was able to match up a excellent glass of wine to our dishes too. I will be returning in the future. A flawless evening started here. Happy dining :-)"

  • "Always a great choice for downtown dining! If the dining room is full the noise level is energetic to say the least i.e. so don't plan on any intimate dining conversation!"

  • "Every one that waited on us was very pleasant and very helpful"

  • "I had the signature duck. It was overcooked and dry. My wife's crab cake was burned. We will not go there again unless they have a new chef."
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "Their crab cakes benny was delicious. The fried green tomatoes was an interesting twist. The pork belly on top was also good. There was not very much of it, just enough to give a beautiful flavor and accent to the dish. The banana crepes were also delicious and perfect to end the meal with."

  • "We always look forward to dining here - really enjoy the food and the service is top notch."

  • "my husband and I both got the chicken salad and a chicken sandwich and both of the chicken dishes were very dry"

  • "Sonoma has been around for a while downtown. It is very consistent and delicious. Moderately priced. Location is great for the theatre crowd. Brunch on Sundays is relaxing and enjoyable. Highly recommend."

  • "First time experience was great. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service. Our waiter Dan was right-on with knowledge of the menu, helpful suggestions and energy. I'll be back."

  • "Food was good but they forgot to put a candle on the dessert we ordered for my birthday as requested."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "The service was very good, waitress excellent. It happened to be a night for music and the music was not "energetic" it was way to loud to have a comfortable conversation. I was disapppinted that some of the food items remembered having (and why I came back) were not on the menu."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Not our first time, or our last time! Always great food and service is impeccable."

  • "My best friend and I met for lunch at Sonoma and were greeted with a warm and friendly staff and a lovely and delicious lunch!"

  • "At a somewhat higher price-point (approx. $120 for two people, soups, appatizer, main course, desert + coffee) this is still a great spot. The food is absolutely delicious; their duck is the absolute best I have ever had and the guacamole and crab appetizer is amazing! $8 for valet parking; parking is done through Marriott Courtyard's parking valets. Ambiance was good but not the highlight; decor was fine but it felt like any other restaurant. Service was great; the wait staff continued to paid attention to us throughout the night regardless of who was our main water. Overall this was a definite "A" and we will definitely be back."

  • "I've dined here often (including twice in the last week!) and always enjoyed it. Both food and wine are excellent. Appetizer sizes are generous, and it's reasonable to make a meal of them. (In fact, you'd find it difficult to finish an appetizer plus an entree, unless you're sharing. Or famished.) I do find the service, especially the long speech at the outset about the restaurant's "concept," to be a bit pretentious and tiresome. And I've sometimes noticed the wait staff faking it when they don't know the answer. My companion and I did a bit of eye-rolling....but this won't stop us from returning for another delicious meal!"

  • "We enjoy Sonoma Grille as a great option for a meal before/after the theatre or symphony. It is only a couple of blocks from the cultural district. When the weather is nice, it's a lovely place for outdoor dining. Friday night, the staff was particularly helpful with wine selection and even wine education and tips on vineyards to visit on our upcoming trip to Napa and Sonoma. Thanks!"

  • "I love your hostess, she is the best. I go there quite often with my co-workers. staff is excellent!! Food is good"

  • "The experience was very good overall, but we did wait for an hour past our reservation time for the table. The staff and management indicated some sort of computer error. They were very attentive, and comp'ed a portion of our bill which was generous and appreciated. Our waiter knew the menu very well, his recommendations were great. Everything was delicious. We will definitely return."

  • "Really enjoyed dining at Sonoma. We ordered from the mixed grill and both meals were very good. Also had Sonoma salad which was the best, of course it had BACON!!! Nice wine selection and the service was great. We were going to a concert and got finished in time to not miss any of the concert even though we showed up a little late for our reservation. Would go back again and this time we will make time for dessert."

  • "The wine list is extensive with many quality wines available by the glass. The bar tending staff is well informed, extremely friendly and really care about what they're doing. The rest of the staff is below average. The 3 inexperienced hosts couldn't manage the seating and we were seated 30 minutes after our reservation with many unoccupied tables. Our dinners arrived 30 minutes after ordering but were room temperature. I didn't mention this to our waitress until the bill came because she never asked earlier, She did immediately notify the manager then, who was very professional and apologetic and took care of a good portion of the bill, which will bring me back to the bar area, but I'm just not enthusiastic about the dining aspect."

  • "We had a reservation for 7:15 on a Saturday night. The restaurant was so crowded we had to wait for our table to be seated in the dining room. We didn't mind at all. We were a party of 4 and they set us up at a high top table at the bar and said our first round of drinks was on the house! What a pleasant surprise, very much appreciated. We had a great time - good drinks, delicious food, terrific service. Couldn't be better."

  • "Happened to be in that part of Pittsburgh, and didn't want to walk the 8 blocks to the strip. We stumbled across Sonoma grill, and took a chance. It was wonderful."

  • "The atmosphere, service and food set the tone for a great evening of catching up with old friends and celebrating a retirement. The Sonoma Grille was my pick and I was anxious about the reaction of the other members of my party. Everyone raved about the atmosphere and as well as the food, and said they would definitely return. Sid was our server and he was very knowledgeable and attentive. He made excellent recommendations. Kudos to the entire staff especially the chef!!"

  • "Had one of the best waiters ever, wine list was superb, and food was excellent! Definitely will be going back!"
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "Had a nice brunch just before a Sunday matinee at the Benedum. Our waiter was very accommodating, and was just the right mix of attentive and respectful of our "space" to visit with our friends. Everyone enjoyed their meals and all ordered from their special brunch list. Only suggestion I have is offering a few options on the Starters or Sweets section of the fixed price menu that are more diet friendly. All you could order were gooey pastries, and that combined with the brunch offerings was a real cargo overload."

  • "Very pleasant dining experience. Food was good, service was excellent. Wait staff was very well versed regarding the menu and specials. Would not hesitate to go there again."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "As always, the food and service was outstanding! The wait staff was very helpful with recommendations for the one that hadn't dined here before, and even made it a point to ask if we were heading to a show after dinner, so they could pace the dinner accordingly. Food was excellent with very nice portions. The only negative about the visit was the live music - it was a very nice touch and they were very talented - it just needed to be turned down a bit. We found our group of 4 struggling to have a conversation or resorting to talking very loudly when the music was in session, and we were seated in the center of the restaurant. Definitely will be back."

  • "Great food and a great environment. Service was prompt as well. Just make sure they know if your going to a show so they can get you out on time."

  • "Great place to do before a downtown show. They make sure they know your schedule and get your food to you within that time frame. Our waiter, Joe, was very knowledgable about the entire menu which made ordering a breeze."

  • "From the time we walked in the door, until we left, we felt very welcomed. Everyone from the hostess, our waitress, Bonnie, and Patricia, the manager were very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent, the décor outstanding, and the atmosphere so comfortable. I loved how spacious the seating was. I would highly recommend the Sonoma to anyone."

  • "I have been to the Sonoma Grill many times and especially appreciate the availability of well thought out small plates. The ambience is simply stated and elegant. The prices are moderate. The food is excellent. We were not rushed and were well within our time frame to enjoy the ballet afterward."
