  • "We always stop in at Sono when we are in town because it never disappoints! This visit we introduced our friends and they have added it to their list of "favorites" as well! The Tuna Tartare is a MUST and this time we choose the Twisted Mango, Piano, Screaming O and the Hamachi Jalapeno rolls. Each one brought a burst of flavor combinations that was amazing! The atmosphere, our server Miko and the food made it for a memorable evening! We look forward to returning soon!"

  • "We asked for a quiet table and the hostess was very agreeable and found us a booth in the back of the restaurant. The waiter answered our questions on the food and was very courteous. We enjoyed our sushi and our friends had the black cod and liked it."

  • "this is a great sushi bar. it has some nooks and crannies so that you have the feelings of being in a small place. it was completely full so that it was energetic feeling. our waitress was really good."

  • "Some friends recommended this place. We met them for dinner and it was everything they said it was. Loved the Magma and Crunchy Diablo rolls with a side of edamame. Atmosphere was friendly, relaxed and casual. The background noise was low enough to carry on conversation. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for great sushi or just a nice place to meet."

  • "This hidden Gem in tucked away in the heart of Downtown Raleigh. The Fish was extremely fresh and the service was off the charts. I will go back again and would recommend this place to all of my friends."

  • "We love Sono. What a great place. The Contemporary Japanese food is delicious, perfectly presented and really creative. And... Miko is our favorite server. What a joy. Would recommend this place to everybody."

  • "The only problem with Sono was the sound level, otherwise it serves its purpose well: good, pricy food in a fancy environment."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "While not the cheapest sushi they do have some interesting and unique sushi combinations, like a tuna roll with goat cheese. No complaints really, though you really do need a reservation if you actually want to get a table without waiting for a while."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner very much. Service was great. Food was good. Cocktails good but pricey. Will come back again."

  • "SONO has been one of the Triangle's most enjoyable neighborhood gems for its fine food, pleasant service, and overall ambience. But suddenly it has shamefully nearly doubled the corkage fee to what can only be described as exploitative and a reflection of poor customer service. Hence the overall "Fair" rating here this time. Except for this major unexpected disappointment, we had another very nice time & for now we will still recommend SONO to others. However, unless the corkage fee increase is rescinded & corkage is returned to its reasonable rate (esp for the kind of casual, friendly restaurant SONO has wanted to be in the past), we will neither suggest it as a good Raleigh option to friends, nor will we return outselves."

  • "This is a lovely place for all adults. There are cozy tables for couples in low light. Would like to try more."

  • "Even though their menu was advertised, it wasn't ready. We booked our table and decided to stay. They took excellent care of us and the food was fabulous. We won't need a restaurant week to encourage us to return."

  • "Sono always has great sushi. The rolls are creative and i find that they really design the roll to highlight the fish as opposed to other places that have rolls that just have fish in them. You will not be disappointed at Sono. The wasabi options are a must have, and will make you never go back to the normal paste."

  • "We had a party of 6, tried to make a reservation on Open Table but our party was considered "large" for their restaurant so I had to call that day to confirm our reservation. Food was fresh and high quality, although they were out of a particular sushi roll that a couple of friends wanted to order for their dinner so they were forced to make an alternate selection. Hostess and server were very friendly. Food was a little in the pricey side, but the quality justified the price in the end. They have a $60/pp "prix fixe" menu if you're seated at a table, or a smaller $40 version you can select if you sit at the bar. We opted not to go that route, but thought it might be a nice option for next time. Overall, an enjoyable night and will be back!"

  • "The food is amazing. I love that they have a large selection of sushi rolls - and not all tempura! Nice drink menu and atmosphere as well. Will definitely visit again for a special occasion or a girls night out."

  • "3 of us ate sushi, soup, and drinks. The service was outstanding. The food was delicious - Dragon Roll, Piano Roll, Rainbow Roll, and one other. Miso soup was good (not great, but good.) Service was excellent, always there but not overbearing. Drinks and ambiance were great. Overall a great experience. It's probably my 5 or 6 visit and all have been excellent."

  • "Whenever my wife and me are in town visiting my mother with the kids, we always make it a point to sneak out for a date at what we feel is the best restaurant in the city. Every time we leave we are already planning our next trip back."

  • "I am a sucker for the tempura shushi roll with the delicious crusty outside! Well, they had it and it was scrumptious!"

  • "Service was fantastic!!! I believe our servers name was Amy. She made great recommendations, was courteous and delivered great service and still gave plenty of space for us to enjoy our evening. We even let her pick the dessert and she made another great recommendation."

  • "The sushi was great. We loved the tuna tartar and the secret garden roll. The orange blossom roll wasn't very exciting but the nigiri was very good. The biggest drawback was a very large shrieking party seated in the middle of the restaurant. It was very unpleasant to be anywhere near them."

  • "We come here often and it never disappoints! This time around we brought the parents in town from FL. They couldn't stop raving about how fresh and delicious the sushi was. Great drink choices and the service was impeccable. Great Friday night hot spot! We will continue to go back for sure!"

  • "I've never been disappointed with this place. The toro, salmon and other sushi is always fresh. The ramen is so delicious and the fire cracker shrimp is so good; it's like crab Rangoon with a big shrimp in the middle. Alejandro the bar tender/ waiter is always friendly, personable and spot on. I really enjoy coming here and have found it to be quite an enjoyable experience each time I come here and the good food and service keeps me coming back for more."

  • "By far the freshest fish in town. I don't know why people rave about Mura--this place is 100 times better! Great shashimi options, too with more unusual choices. Rolls abound and you'll find things here that are nowhere else!"

  • "The food was excellent. The waitstaff are very attentive and awesome. I have nothing but great things to say about our dining experience. I will return each time I'm in Raleigh."

  • "The food here is fantastic and the service was great. The servers all work together to make sure the guests are taken care of. We tried 4 different rolls all of which were fantastic. Only reason for a 4 was there was a table of people with a screaming child that we wish would have been addressed by the management. The child was extremely loud and obnoxious throughout the meal with the parents not attempting to reconcile the issue at all."

  • "Salmon Bento box was superb well worth it. $25 Monday dinner special also. great chef app, choice of any sushi roll , chef special entree (skirt steak w/veggies and gravy over wasabi mash potatoes when we dined) and dessert. everyone was very friendly too. as for ambience big tvs over bar and dining area + way tables are laid out + color scheme makes it seem a romantic sports bar (?!) . There are some booths in the back for a less sporty feel so it depends what you are looking for on a particular night."

  • "Sushi at Sono was very delicious. Plenty of special rolls with classic rolls available on their a la carte menu. Only took a star off the service because we had a new waiter in training so I didnt expect it to be the best it could be. Other than that, everything came out fast and, as stated earlier, was delicious."

  • "The food is always excellent! There's a wide array of sushi, raw and not raw to choose from so something for everybody. The avocado salad and accompanying dressing is delightful. We also love the firey shrimp appetizer. Also a sharp looking bar area-check out the drink they call "Dark Horse" different and really good! Attractive setting, great service and delicious food- a total winner!"

  • "We recently tried this place for the first time. We were happy with the sushi dishes and will definitely go again. As the evening progressed, it did get a bit noisy for our taste. But plenty of benches outside allowed us to wrap up dinner and continue our visit with our out of town friend."

  • "Sono is your typical sushi place that goes for looks over quality. That's not to say the food is bad, it's okay but by no means excellent. This is the place to go if you're out in Raleigh and want to be seen but don't care about how good the food is."
