Diner Reviews
  • "From the begin to end great customer service. Our Waitress Brittany was outstanding. She was knowledgeable of all their dishes and how it was made. Will return again"

  • "Expensive and poor quality food. Don't order steaks. came with Yuca fries was so rubbery and hard. couldn't even chew. I won't go back to this restaurant."

  • "Had to take a business partner out for dinner and this place was perfect. Delicious food, stylish, and spectacular view."

  • "I felt like I was on vacation as soon as I stepped onto the terrace and saw the fabulous view of NYC. The food was great starting with the guayaba butter, yum! They had my favorite dish from Miami, Arroz Imperial which was very good. The avocado did was also very good. The Tres leche was yummy."

  • "Went with my husband to celebrate our 6th yr anniversary, we were greeted and seated right away, amazing view. Fell in loveeee with the empanadas. A little expensive but loved everything ! Menu isn't more than 2 pgs which doesn't give to much options which made it easier for ME to pick something right away!!!"

  • "Son Cubano is beautiful. The restaurant itself deserves 5 stars for interior decorating. It looks rich, elegant, classy and modern. The service was excellent and the views are spectacular. The food on the other hand was not great. I ordered La Jardinera, the only vegetarian entree on the menu and what I got was a plate of yellow rice with some roasted vegetables thrown on top. Very unimpressive. I'm Latin so I know that lots of Latin dishes are fried and consist of meat but there are Latin vegetarians out there. For such an upscale restaurant, it's very disappointing for a customer to have 1 vegetarian option. There are lots of creative and delicious vegetarian dishes out there. I suggest the chef look into them."

  • "After reading several negative reviews about the food and service, I was very nervous about celebrating my girlfriend's birthday. But I had great experiences in the past and decided the view of the city would be worth the visit to Son Cubano. Our table decided to share a few apps and a few main dishes. We ordered the guacamole, shrimp, the skirt steak, paella, salmon and chirps for dessert. Service was great but could be because it was a Tuesday and they weren't that busy. Anyway I really enjoyed the food and I plan to go back."

  • "Son Cubano offered a delicious range of Cuban fare--especially meats and fishes (and props to the appetizers)--as well as breathtaking sights across the Hudson to Manhattan. However, the live band was a little too live on Friday night. We had to wait until the sets were over to resume our conversation thanks to the energetic bongo dude."

  • "I was there for 4th of July....All I can say is I loved the place, the food was great. The service was great too, except one guy kept on coming up to me asking if I was done with my food to take the plate away, but what can I do I'm a slow eater and take my time. I politely told him numerous times I will let him know when I'm done. I know he was doing his job but Half of my clams and oysters were on the plate, he should have had a better judgement....outside patio was closed due to a coming rain I would have loved sitting outside, but inside was pretty too. It gets really cold inside bc of air conditioning....ladies you have a jacket with you just in case :-) I will certainly come back again."

  • "Beautiful place with great views of Manhattan and the service is good, but the food is just ok. Other places in the area with much better food, but this place wins for ambiance."

  • "I have been here a couple of times for lunch and dinner. You can eat outside on a nice day with a great view of the Hudson River and NYC. The food is not fancy (it's Cuban food mostly), but their presentation makes it more appealing and interesting. The place is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. The service is good."

  • "Made reservations for my mother's birthday and it was awesome! The food was so delicious and the view was spectacular. Great place, definitely will come again with my wife. It's very romantic and afterwards you can take a stroll on the pier."

  • "I've eaten at Son Cubano before and was quite disappointed with my entree. I ordered the special which was a meat paella. The chicken in my dish didn't taste fresh and was so bland, the short rib was so fatty I could barely taste the meat, there were only 2 small pieces of lechon. The only positive things with food were the dessert and the cucumber drink I had. I also made a reservation and had to wait 20 min after arrival. I would only go back now only to drink as the food was underwhelming. The place was pretty loud so I would not recommend if you want to have a nice conversation over dinner."

  • "Have been here before and have enjoyed all things on the menu. The service is always very good with attentive servers. Saturday is always best in the late afternoon as it clears out and allows you to snag a table with great views of the city. Outdoor seating is plentiful. The live music, when offered, adds to the festive but elegant ambiance and makes the food even more delicious. A definite neighborhood gem."

  • "great location. Got called by host to be there before 930 pm my resvn time or we wouldn'y get a table. BTW open table had open revsn for 9.45pm too. The food was way below average for the prices charged. The Ahi Tuna was not top grade and very mushy. Wine served was not as listed on wine list. Wait staff was friendly but the management should realize that not everyone dining there is Cuban or Hispanic."

  • "I took my relatives here for dinner. The restaurant is beautiful with great food and vibe. The service was non existent though. We didn't get bread or water for the table. I had to ask the waiter to bring it. The waiter forgot to bring a dish and my aunt was left waiting for her meal while everyone else ate. When it did arrive, the salmon was rare even though we asked for it to be well done. I did love the live band and the décor though so mixed feelings on this one."

  • "The restaurant itself is beautiful and the scenic view is beautiful as well of course, however, I expected more from the food. I think they need to add more variety to their menu and more authentic Cuban meals."

  • "Beautiful view, average food, spotty wine glasses and dishes needed to wiped down before we could use them. Silverware the same. Food was mediocre and not worth the prices. We wanted to start off with a dish of paella to share before ordering our meal and the waiter said paella has a lot of rice. What the heck does that mean? Of course, paella has rice."
    Dined on 4/14/2014
  • "Loved the decor and the location....the food was pretty good, but nothing memorable, esp. for the price. I had the churrasco..the meat was good but the rice and yucca were as dry and bland as could be. The calamari was good but the clams were not fresh. The butter for the bread was tasty but hard and unspreadable. The drinks were watered down. The service was pretty good but she forgot to come back with a couple things we asked for. The live band was good and not too loud for the time of the evening. All in all it was a pretty good experience. Would i go back for the food? Prob. not...would i go back for the atmosphere and view? Yes, if someone from out of town is visiting and is looking to eat at a place like that."

  • "The restaurant is split into a bar/music area and the sit down restaurant. Food is not the greatest... A little over priced for items that were good... but dry when served. Had the salmon and pernil. Great tres leche"

  • "Service was a little slow especially for a night that was not busy. I ordered steak and it came out on the colder side. I would have liked for it to be warmer"

  • "I was told there would be valentines prefix all weekend, but I guess I was misinformed. Otherwise, everything was good, the view is very nice and the service is good except for bringing out the wrong appetizer."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "But the food is bland, which is not good for Latin food. It does not need to be fried but you must be able to "taste" the food though the spices. This is what makes Latin food so good. Unfortunately it was lacking."
    Dined on 2/1/2014
  • "Food was less than average. . Waite staff was polite. However, they didn't come by table often. I frequently asked buss boys to get waiter come to table. Restaurant has a 2 hours limit on your dinner experience.. Thus, rushing through your dinner. I was asked to wrap it up and offered a round of drinks in exchange for our table before we ordered our dinner."

  • "We had heard mix reviews for Son Cubano. I am glad that we finally got to experience it for ourselves. The food was excellent, but you can't go there thinking that you are going to have authentic Cuban food. It has some dishes that can be considered authentic, but for the most part, no. The services leaves a lot to be desire. Our waiter claimed to be the "head waiter". Yet I tasted the wine, and then he went around filling the 3 other glasses and forgot to come back to me. They served an entire bottle of wine for 4 people in one shot. The glasses were filled to the top. Never came back to see how the food was. Again, the food was delicious, the place is beautiful, the view is breathtaking but service needs improvement."

  • "The service was impeccable but the food was very bland. I was expecting richer flavored food from a restaurant specializing in Cuban cuisine. The dessert was great, I had the tres leche."

  • "I dont know how to express it much with Son Cubano. The food is amazing, everything about it. I stuffed my mouth. The passion fruit mojito gave me the best buzz (had 3). The guac and platano chips. I loove this spot and to make it even better the view to the city is perfect for a romantic dinner. Enjoy!"

  • "We had dinner at Son Cubano, we had high expectations, and unfortunately Son Cubano couldn't deliver. The Restaurant was very quiet when we came in, a friendly waitress show us our table. But the food wasn't that special what we hoped for. It was a very expensive dinner with no taste. I ordered steak and there was also no taste on it. It lays on a bed of dry beans with some linzes, not my taste. My kids didn't love it either. So it was bit a waste of money. Pitty we had very high expectations. It was our first and our last experience here."

  • "It was my husband birthday so special night. Reviewing restaurant obviously room with view of NYC attracted me and food. When I booked reservation, requested window table and asked to confirm email if not possible. They called to confirm, I again requested room and they told me it was noted. When we showed, the back room was booked for a party. Horrible, customer service. You can't tell me they didn't know a large party was booked and my request could not be honored. You could have been honest with me when you called to confirm reservation. I certainly understand window table can't be guaranteed, but when the entire room is not available, that should be noted when they call to confirm. We had a nice night, but not what I expected."
